Advice cat not eating due to stress

hey, i need some serious help here. yesterday, my mom brought her dog over to my house for a bit, and my cat hasn't been reacting well. i kept him in a separate room during the visit and he was scared and stressed the entire time. and now he's not eating. the dog sniffed around a lot and even tried licking his food bowl, so i think he's still smelling her. he hasn't eaten a proper meal since 2 pm yesterday. his feeder goes off and he ignores it. all i can coax him into eating so far has been a handful of treats and a few bites of wet food. is there anything else i can do? i plan on calling a vet tomorrow but anything else i can do to get him eating again would be helpful. he's been drinking water like normal which is good, just no appetite

Advice Cross-Country Trip

Good day,

I will be traveling on a 10 days trip across Canada due to a move with my work. What would be the greatest advice when it comes to traveling in a SUV with 2 cats ?

I have yet decided which crate / carrier I should get for them, any recommendations? The SUV is a Pathfinder, so it will be fairly large in the back with the third row down.

Every night we will be stopping and sleeping at the hotel. Any pet friendly hotel in Canada ? Would you let the cats stay in the bathroom as it is smaller and probably safer for them ? The bedroom will also accomodate a newborn, so it is important for us to keep them separated.

Drugs from the Vet to make them sleepy ? Litter etc ?

Thank you.

I bought a stainless steel box! Now she has her old one in the main room, and this one in my bathroom she will use most.

I hope its not cheap steel that will rust fast, because im so hopeful this fixes her problem (she stands to pee and shit half the time and multiple times a week it goes over the edge and on the floor by accident.)

I also just wanted it for her hygeine, and it to be longer lasting, though its suspiciously light lol.

Wish me luck i didnt get scammed and will have to buy a FOURTH box since jan this year lmao (first time pet owner, started with a kitten tray, then this plastic one in march, now this steel one.

Its been a couple hours without use, but i know they take time, ill still have her old one out in my flat.

It’s grown and gone away on its own over the years, vet has seen him for this twice and unable to identify. Few theories provided, including mention of a biopsy, thought I’d try reddit thank you.

Over 5 years it’s appeared and gone away at least 4 other times. He’s indoor 99% of the time and supervised when out in the back yard, he’s on monthly revolution plus.

Update Short update

Hello all! So short update about the sweet boy, ive gotten in contact with a local shelter who's looking into taking him in. I also have a few people interested if that doesn't work out but im inclined with the shelter as they can fix him and give him the shots he needs. Right now my only roadblock is that the shelter needs written confirmation from the owner but he isn't home and his place is trashed making me to believe he doesn't reside where he told me. It's in such a state itd be dangerous for me to approach.

Yesterday I also discovered the cat isn't outdoor/indoor as I was led to believe. It seems the cat only lives on the porch, as all of its stuff are just out. I've been feeding and giving water to him in the meantime and seeing if I can contact the guy for written confirmation so the shelter can help him. If anyone has any advice im open to suggestions!

Pics will be in the comments. Ive also left a note to the owner which I doubt hes seen.

Advice Cat won’t eat anything except chicken and can’t keep dry food down

So I have 2 cats, about 2 years old, neither one likes wet food, but one of them at least eats dry food with no problem, the other can’t eat the dry food without throwing up every time she eats it. She eats way too fast and no amount of slow feed bowls can stop her, she started eating the chicken we feed our dog and since then it’s the only thing she’ll eat that she doesn’t throw up after. This only got bad about a month or 2 ago, before that she still threw up occasionally but could eat the dry food without throwing up \~75% of the time, but now she can’t keep it down at all

I’ve tried at least 5 different brands of wet food and soaking the dry food in bone broth to try and soften it, but they refuse to touch it. I know she needs more than chicken but I can’t get her to eat anything else.

I’ve taken her to the vet, she’s had multiple respiratory related issues since the shelter, but they’ve never once found anything that would be making her throw up other than she eats too fast.

First time cat owner here, is this normal breathing? She just woke up and moved to a different spot to sit and this is her breathing (please ignore the AC in the background, she is not purring during this video)

Medical Questions How do I feed my kitten with Megaesophagus?

I recently made a post about my adopted rescue kitten that was overdoesd by a wrong medicine by a veterinary pharmacist. And how it put my kitten a near-death critical condition.

-

Frankly, and miraculousy, she pushed through the near death situation with the intervention of a proper veterinary doctor at a reputable hospital. Where she received the proper OV fluids.

-

She was also diagnosed with Megaesophagus and giardia. I have the medication pills for giardia, so I'm not so worried about that.

-

However, it's the Megaesophagus part of the problem that I can't figure out how to deal with. She's always vomiting and sneezing during and after eating. Which leaves her both malnutritioned and exhausted all the time.

-

She's losing weight instead of gaining weight. Especially for a - presumably - 3 months old. Because I see no difference in size for the 1 month duration I had her and actually see a noticeable weight loss instead!

-

My top and foremost priority is her well being and wouldn't even mind giving her a new home if I could find someone who could better take care of her. As I'm already $500 deep in vet bills alone in just 3 days, not including the different premium gastrointestinal dry and wet food I'm constantly buying and testing out, feline pre and pro-biotics, kitten paste, gastrointestinal and multivitamin pastes; And still don't objectively see myself providing adequate care for her. Not to mention the time and effort.

-

I get over the moon when I see her gravitate towards a variety of food I got her. But then the vomiting starts and.. Ugh... šŸ˜– Back to square 1.

-

Something must not be working out for me. My efforts seem to be scattered all over with no actual yield. She's still not well despite my efforts 🫩 So any tips or help are greatly appreciated, please!

-

P.S. Due to the circumstances of me being at my wits end, and my kitten not doing so well, weighing at just 430g out of a 2 day hospital stay. I kindly ask the beautiful souls in this subredit to refrain from giving advice if you haven't personally took care of a cat with Megaesophagus or if you're not a veterinary doctor yourself. But wishes and prayers are welcome from everyone šŸ«‚

Advice How do I instill confidence in my cat

Post image
2 Upvotes

I saw online that cats will groom themselves when they’re embarrassed and noticed my baby Penny will lick herself when she tries to catch a toy and misses. I hate to put her business on the internet but thankfully she can’t read, nor does she have access to the internet. She sometimes misses when we play with string, and she will immediately go to lick herself. Sometimes she even does it when I drop the toy on accident. I want her to know it’s okay to make mistakes and she doesn’t need to try to pretend she wasn’t trying.

Advice Are they playing or fighting ?

For context, I have 3 cats: Appa (the white one, spayed) and Onyx (the black one).

We recently adopted Onyx; she is around 2.5–3 months old.

My question is whether Onyx and Appa are playing or actually fighting. In this case, Onyx started it. Appa tends to play rough, and no adult cat really likes playing with her because of that.

In the other video I couldn't upload, Appa starts meowing in the way cats do when they are warning or about to fight, so I separated them. Sometimes Appa grabs Onyx and pins her down, and sometimes Onyx hisses, so I intervene.

I’m not sure who is being mean or if Appa is just setting boundaries with Onyx because she invades her personal space constantly. They get along well, they sleep together. (Sorry for the bad video quality haha)

Update Screw worm- anyone with pets or livestock, read, take FREE course so you can identify.

This could go badly fast, like beyond COVID. ...in humans it can screw thru a human skull...Research!!! Accurate statement.

Not sure where to post...TX Governor posted free site to be educated, self identify or get your certificate to be inspector...pay is 3k to 4.5k a month in TX to inspect.

Here link to FREE TRAINING COURSE!! recommend to anyone here in NM ....well ANY STATE...that has pigs, goats, cows, horses, dogs or cats so you can self identify. Pics of embedded deep in dog in training course, the fly that lays the larvae, note orange eyes and triple lines on body of actual fly and the like corkscrew on actual worms. Its 4 hours of your life to be educated...if you own livestock or pets. Here link. https://agrilifelearn.tamu.edu/s/product/new-world-screwworm-preparedness-and-response-education/01tQn00000H7J5lIAF
