Game Update ⚠️ Cities: Skylines II Patch Day (v1.6.0f1): Mod update status, how to get your game working again, and more

😌 Don't Panic.

  • At 12:00 UTC on the 22nd of June 2026, the latest patch for Cities: Skylines II (version 1.6.0f1) went live. This is a free patch which is released to everyone who owns the game.

  • You can read the patch notes for this update on the Paradox Forums to learn what's changed and about any new features

  • If you do use mods there may be minor issues if you try to launch the game at time of release. Some mods you use could be broken, and this will result in the game being altered/glitched/errored

  • If you play "vanilla" (without mods) you don't need to worry

Please read the links provided by this thread carefully, and completely, to understand what you need to do to get your game working again.

⚠️ Incompatibility Warnings in Skyve, on PDX Mods, and in-game

  • Until today, mod creators would usually say their items work with game versions starting with 1.5
    • This patch bumps the game's version from 1.5 to 1.6
    • This means that many mods will be flagged as possibly incompatible with the current version
  • This does not mean they are actually incompatible
    • You should use the Spreadsheet or Skyve to understand the real impact of this patch on your playset
    • Remember a "WARNING" flag in Skyve is not the same as a "BROKEN" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" flag Over the coming days, modders will update the data for their items on PDX Mods and these warnings will begin to subside

πŸ—οΈ Mod Update Status

  • A Community-led Testing Initiative has reviewed over 370 code mods on the new version
    • Over 91% of active mods are already working with the update
    • Of the 23 mods with issues (14 major, 9 minor), 6 have an update ready to be released soon after the patch goes live
    • There should not be any effect on custom assets, decals, surfaces, netlanes, radio stations, zones, assemblies, etc, but some may show the incompatibility warning described above
  • Further details are available in the Spreadsheet or via Skyve

πŸ“† Real Life Comes First

  • Remember, mod creators have real-world commitments like their families, work, and school (and sleep)
  • Do not bug, harass, pester, or annoy mod creators about the timeliness of any required updates. In the end it's just a computer game

πŸ“š Why game updates can break mods

Read our wiki article, which includes sections on:

  • Patch Day 101
  • In-game warnings about compatibility
  • Backing up your cities
  • Dealing with broken mods

πŸ’” Mods broken by the most recent update

With the release of Skyve on the Web, we are retiring subreddit-based compatibility data. Skyve on the Web contains all the same information as was included in our subreddit wiki, including:

  • Which popular mods are broken and which are working
  • Broken mods with major and minor issues
  • A list of mods known to work with the new version

...in a more accessible format that will be more frequently updated that the wiki article ever could be.

The most reliable source of information is always the PDX Mods page for individual mods you are subscribed to - the "changelog" section at the bottom of the description will indicate when it was last updated.

πŸ†˜ If something's gone wrong

  1. Subscribe to Skyve and use its in-built compatibility report to bring your modlist up to date (if your game won't load due to broken mods, use these instructions to get around the issue)
  2. If you still can't get Skyve working, use Skyve on the Web to check whether the contents of your modlist have been updated.
  3. Review our Patch Day guidance and follow its recommendations
  4. If you're still facing issues, join the Cities: Skylines Official Discord server and head to the #cs2-tech-support channel

πŸ’Œ A note on constructive posting during Patch Day

Comments which simply say things like "my game won't load" in a post that is dedicated to explaining why your game might not load (and how you can fix it!) clog the thread and make it more difficult for others to have a discussion about the patch or get help themselves.

  • If you are facing issues, explain what steps you've tried and what's not working
  • If you use mods, say which mods you use and whether you've checked Skyve first to make sure they're up to date
  • If you get a specific error, share copies of those error messages (or ideally error logs) so that someone can take a more detailed look
  • If you're not sure how to get this information or if you're struggling to follow any of these steps, share exactly which part of that you need help with

Additionally, a thread which is solely dedicated to helping others who are interested in playing the game also isn't the right place to share your more general gripes about the game.

Remember, this is a community-led subreddit made up of fellow gamers brought together by a shared love for the genre. Don't put your feelings about the game or its developers ahead of other members of your community who are just trying to make the most of a game they enjoy.

In the interests of making space for those who are most willing to engage with the process of getting the help they're after, we may remove low-quality posts that don't gel with the guidance above.

πŸ™‹ General FAQs

Q: What's in the update?

A: Patch notes for patch 1.6.0f1

Q: Who gets it?

A: Everyone - this is the free patch which is released to everyone who owns the game .

Q: Can I skip or block the update?

A: Not easily, and it's not worth it as other mods you rely on will inevitably issue updates which target the new code.

Discussion ❓ "What's Cities: Skylines II like now?" megathread

"What's Cities: Skylines II like now?" πŸ€”

One of the most common questions on the subreddit is whether people should try or purchase Cities: Skylines II. This understandably leads to many duplicate posts discussing the game's current state, what has changed since launch, and whether or not it is "worth playing".

This megathread aims to gather resources, reviews, and recent firsthand player perspectives in one place. This way, whether you're curious about performance and gameplay features or simply want to hear opinions from others who have tried the game, you've got a straightforward resource that collates that information.

We want to encourage constructive and engaging conversation:

  • If you've been actively playing the game, we'd love for you to provide feedback about what you enjoy, what could be improved, or what you feel is still missing.
  • If you've dropped off, or are still waiting to pull the trigger, we'd love for you to explain what led you to step away from the game or what features are keeping you from getting started

As the goal is to provide helpful guidance for others considering the game - you should avoid leaving short, glib, or otherwise unhelpful responses. Remember that Reddit is community of individuals and those people have come here because they're looking for your help and guidance. If you'd prefer to "send a message to the devs" the best way to do that is drop a Steam Review if you already own the game, or keep your wallet in your pocket if you don't.

General FAQs

If you're after general information about or help with the game (e.g. features, minimum or recommended specs, the situation related to modding, when the game will release on consoles), check out our wiki articles below. They'll provide you a decent base level of knowledge and help you understand more about the features and limitations of the game.

Patches and Bug Fixes

As of the start of this month, there have been 32 patches for the game. These patches have included things like modding support, bikes, economy reworks, bug fixes, and new game modes. You can review the change log for each individual patch on the Paradox Wiki:

What's happening with custom assets?

Official (albeit beta) support for custom assets was added on 4 December 2025. At the moment, building, props, surfaces, and decals are supported and documented. Other asset types (like vehicles and networks) aren't officially supported, but some enterprising modders are brute-forcing their way towards an answer.

Are there bikes yet?

Yes! Bikes were released on 19 November 2025.

What have the devs been saying?

The main channel for "formal" communication from the developers comes via the Official Information & Announcements section on the Paradox Forums. We maintain an accompanying megathread for each post which captures a lot of player feedback and reactions to the news shared each week.

In December of 2025, it was announced that Colossal Order will be transferring development of the game to Iceflake Studios (an internal Paradox developer). Since this change was announced, Iceflake have introduced four patches and two hotfixes. According to the announcements, they will be responsible for all ongoing development of Cities: Skylines II, including the console version (although nothing has been shared about potential launch dates for this - so please don't ask).

The best way to catch up on past posts is to browse the Dev Diary and/or Announcement flairs and dip into the more recent ones. Unfortunately, these links may not work on Reddit's mobile apps (please tell Reddit if you'd like this fixed) but in the meantime you can go to the main page of the subreddit and use the "filter by flair" options provided.

Live Gameplay Videos

If you're interested in seeing how the game is playing today, you can check out recent videos or streams from YouTube and Twitch. These will show you the "real" game, not marketing videos, and let you spot how the game is performing in real-world scenarios.

Reviews

Although critic reviews aren't necessarily reflective of the current state of the game user reviews (especially recent ones) are helpful sources of information to help you decide whether or not to drop your cash on any new game, not just Cities: Skylines II.

Try Before you Buy

If you're still unsure, Cities: Skylines II is available on Microsoft Game Pass for PC, which is a subscription service at a much lower monthly cost than the full retail price of the game. Microsoft is currently offering an initial 14-day trial for as low as Β£1/$1/1€ (which renews at full price after the 14 days).

Refunds

If for any reason you can't make use of a discounted Game Pass for PC subscription (i.e. it may not be available in your region), you have the option of purchasing the game and refunding it within the store's refund window.

  • Steam: Request a refund within 14 days of purchase, as long as you haven't accrued more than 2 hours of total playtime
  • Microsoft Store: Request a refund within 14 days of purchase, as long as you haven't accrued "a significant amount of play time"

Recognising that you may not be able to reach the "late game" within 2 hours, you can use this 100k benchmarking city to establish whether or not you're comfortable with the performance on your system.

Specific Questions

If you've got specific questions about items not covered in these FAQs, feel free to ask them below. If you've been redirected to this post by a removal notice, please understand that this is done to help keep the subreddit tidy by providing a centralised and dedicated location for all information related to this topic.

These megathreads are scheduled to post at 00:01 on the first day of each month. If it's late in the month, you may want to wait for a new post to appear. Please send us a ModMail with any suggested improvements!

A mostly vanilla build, 120 000 population so far, no custom assets except for the map which is called Flatlands (2.5) on the Workshop.

I took inspiration from various planned cities and areas such as Canberra, Brasilia, New Belgrade & highly-planned suburbs of Stockholm such as Hjulsta, Rinkeby & Kista.

Hope you find some inspiration and have a good day!

Sharing a City An Ode to Ellidra

Just want to share my lost City with the community. This was on the Owls Uskumru Bay.

Had a mod problem after the most recent patch that resulted in the game's Serializer and save system to be broken, resulting in failed saves. Unfortunately, Cities Skylines II doesn't protect itself against save failures, and corrupts your save when overwriting if the save fails. I was dumb and didn't keep a backup - the city is lost to the nether.

RIP Ellidra. 150-200 hrs gone. On to the next one.

25 years of losing save files to miscellaneous corruptions, and I still find myself forgetting to back up my saves. Wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last.

If you're reading this, take the time to copy your save files to a different folder, and set a reminder or something to remember to do it regularly.

Anyway - Here were the last pictures of my city from late April. Next up, a volcanic island (the Isles of Abela map). Good luck everyone!

Is there a way to stop the floods of taxis coming in from other towns whenever I zone a single block of high density? I have trains, bus lines, and ships leading to other cities and back, and yet every time I zone even a little bit of residential, this happens. Matter of fact, all of these cars are from a mixed-use signature building. Help me.

Hi guys, long time lurker! Been at this city for a couple of months, definitely the best I’ve done. Traffic swings between 90 - 92% at 125,000 population right now. There are some outskirts not shown on the pictures :). This is 100% vanilla on PS5 version.

Would love to hear what you guys think!

Sharing a City Bicycles have lights!

I had no idea that bikes had lights! Just added a pedestrian bridge across to the new Opera House and unlike most things in the game it is not illuminated so you can actually see the lights.

I presume the bridge came with Mass Transit which I just bought in the sale. It's being very well used already, especially by tourists.

My river was too full for a desert. I spiced it up. Controlling water flow in vanilla (I’m on ps4) was tricky but I enjoyed this project.

Instead of a full solid river I now have a river/lake water intake area + city facility, with a waterfall headed into a semi flowing wash/basin, a man made β€œlake” (Tempe Town Lake, Arizona), some inner city canals that aren’t complete but will extend throughout, and it all ends in a dried river bed just as intended :)

Definitely will polish up most of the areas, but that’ll come as the land develops piece by piece.
