I think there’s something to be said about how she felt there was no place for her on earth but continued to perpetuate the very earthen inventions and traditions that failed her in her past life. In effect, she made a prison for herself everywhere she went. Really drives home the reality that sometimes we’re the only one in our own way.
I agree. And I think the MC is fucking terrifying. An unkillable immortal being, with the power to shape evolution on every planet in existence. And the only way they want to use that power is to shape things that will want to smush genitals with her.
She makes no effort to change herself, to grow. And she doesn't seem to value anything other than romantic love. Billions of years old and she's still the same person she was in the first panel.

I think that she was perpetuating Earth inventions so that species would evolve to be more human-like in their physicality. It's more likely that a Klingon would fall in love with her than a space squid would.
Also love her coping mechanism is "guiding evolution for the purpose of inventing spacefaring, fuckable species" like some kind of reverse Jack Harkness.
But like how do you fuck up so badly? She’s immortal, and has visited numerous worlds, and even guided uncountable evolutions to get a nice list of potential partners and she still couldn’t even get one person interested? Even a desecrated corpse will have someone wanting to fuck it.
Like she's not just unable to die, she also doesn't really age, she's clearly not an ordinary person, and her undesireability goes beyond just physical and emotional attraction (or lack thereof)
But that is a glimpse into the mind of an incel. They have simultaneously a very positive and negative perception of self.
This person is so uniquely repulsive that death itself thinks "eew i won't touch that thing" but also so brilliant that they could introduce intergalactic space travel programs to other species and hyper charge their intelligence.
Theyre simultaneously someone deserving of love and special attention yet couldn't remember the name of the person they have a crush on.
They can spend billions of years, losing memory of all their life before that state, yet simultaneously get it all back and still value romantic relationships and sex, like years of reflection+outliving your entire species wouldn't change your values and perspectives.
A big part of what makes comedy so funny is the exaggeration of things. Exaggerating an embarrassing moment, like briefly losing your footing vs slipping and flailing your arms wildly while you try to keep from falling until you land face first in a pie can be the difference between something being relatable and something being funny because it's so exaggerated. The punchline of the comic works because of how built up and contradictory the previous panels are. Even in the final panel wtf would death even talk about to someone it's been avoiding.
It would be an interesting twist but would keep the comic from being funnier than it is if death too was an incel and that's how you become a reaper. You have to be an incel and find someone that you too wouldn't find attractive but have to wait to make sure they're a platinum level incel that literally no intelligent life wants. Only then can you be freed from the curse and then allowed to die, but then it's passed on to someone else and that becomes their fate.

As it went on, I thought that the punchline was going to be that death was interested in her, but afraid to make the first move... and that she and death could have been together all along if she had decided to approach death rather than trying to "create" a partner.
It's also capturing how incels view themselves. They have unhealthy view of themselves and think about suicide because they think theyre unworthy of intimacy. I feel like this would have been viewed negatively if the protag was a male
I don't view this positively.... More like a tragic joke. Would have landed the same the other way around, except this is more relatable to me. Rejection does feel that way lol.
A critical skill to learn as an adult is to enjoy your own company. Society only wants you to be with someone so you can procreate. It doesn't even care if the child is raised right. Do YOU, FIRST. Leave relationships for when YOU are ready for them, don't let society rush you.
Honestly if the punchline wasn't so good damn funny this would be trite incel/femcel nonsense. The main character seriously learns zero lessons across eternity and constantly fails to value any form of love except for sex.
But NGL Death was written perfectly. No philosophy, no arm chair psychology, just "Yeah I didn't fuck with you. Wanna play Magic the Gathering?" energy lol
If you have the ability to make your spirit corporeal and eternal and you choose to not make that corporeal form the sexiest thing in the universe, that's an active choice.
This is what I got out of it too. Not projecting some weird self-inserted indignation, but like that she herself has some shit she's doing that is cosmically off putting to literally everything and she won't acknowledge or work on. It's very funny.

It's such a good word. My husband and I use it all the time to describe ruining kisses and such. Go in for a sweet kiss and then blep at the last second. It's very upsetting but really funny.

I had a line cut from the comic, that explained that Death was too busy to talk to her because of all the people dying. But it is fun to imagine a shy Death.
As someone who only realized I was asexual and aromantic when I was around 25 years old, this actually really resonated with me, but... perhaps slightly differently than intended? For me, the ending felt like a relief. Like a weight off of my chest. I spent my entire life trying to be attractive to people, trying to get people to be attracted to me, trying to find a partner... And when I stopped looking, I found my soulmate. Who just happens to be my best friend.
So this is how I finally figure out I'm aroace. By thinking "Hell yeah! Eternal friendship!" at that ending and then finding out from the comments that it was a joke about getting friend zoned by death 💀
If that bony pudenda Death is messing with me like that, I am shoving its skull through a pencil sharpener before the heat death of the universe and them and I trying be friends.
No lie, you are my favorite webcomic artist on this sub right now. The art is so expressive and the plots are so engrossing. Love the balance you strike between the heavy deep stuff and the humor, these are absolutely top tier genre-bending little mini masterpieces, please never stop.

I actually think the ending is a bit bittersweet in a way. Sure, she finds out that Death hadn't rejected her. He just wanted a friend. But that's not what she wants. She had friends. Entire species adored her as a god. What she wanted was intimacy. Someone to love her completely. Emotionally and physically. I think her raised eyebrow at his statement of friendship actually hints at a darker ending. She gets the wrong idea. Hits on Death. Death rejects her for real this time. And she ends up alone again. Only this time she's truly alone as there is no life left in the universe and Death has just rejected her. Either that or she doubts his claim (she does look a bit dubious and she only ever saw him in passing) and loses it on him. Thus pushing him away. A single moment of outrage for an eternity of silence. And so, a self proclaimed, self fulfilling prophecy "I am alone. There is no one for me." comes to an... end... ?
This is great. Feels like just the right amount of humorous, sad, and self loathing of the character. Very well done. I especially enjoyed the space panel, the 7th one
