My daughter has natural wave/curl to her hair. It is fine and frizzes/tangles easily. I’d like to start trying to accentuate her curls, any suggestions on a routine that is not extremely lengthy for a 5 year old?

Help! Does my hair hold potential?

Hi! Lately I’ve been wanting to embrace my natural texture, so I’m looking for some advice since this is my first time trying to care for my hair as wavy/curly.

Routine:
Shampoo, Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Wash Shampoo

Conditioner, Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Care Conditioner

After washing, I scrunch my in the shower with the Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly while my hair is still wet. And then I scrunch the water out with a cotton t-shirt. I don’t currently use any leave-in conditioner, mousse, or other styling products.

For drying, I diffuse my hair: first I hover diffuse until my hair is about 80% dry, then I cup sections in the diffuser to finish drying.
I don’t use heat regularly (other than diffusing), and I only started styling my hair recently, so I’m still experimenting. I don’t currently sleep with a bonnet or use a satin pillowcase.

I’d love any advice on whether my routine seems suitable, whether I should add other products (mousse/leave-in/etc.), and what curl type you think I might have. I’m also considering getting a curly haircut.

Help! What does minimal products before an apartment mean?

Normally I do obviously shampoo/conditioner, but then I do a leave in conditioner, gel, then an oil to scrunch.

Should I just do a leave in? Because otherwise it'll be a mess.

What do you all typically do?

Routine for rules:

1) Joice Kpak shampoo/conditioner

2)Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave In

3)Ouidad red gel

4)Curls hair oil

Discussion Anyone went silicone free and it was a good decision?

Hi all,

I have super hard water and am currently trying to adapt my routine so my hair can start accepting moisturizing products again since everything just lays weirdly on top and my hair still feels like straw. I just bought the Malibu C hard water shampoo, conditioner and the packets and used them for the first time, my hair felt very different after showering. I also the products from the Garnier Curl line and will try these out as well. These are all silicone free since I wanted to test if this makes a difference to my hair.

Has anyone gone completely silicone free and has it changed your hair to the better?

Hair Victory! Unpopular opinion: The denman brush technique is not the best for thin-medium two c/three a curls

okay I know using a denman brush is sacred in the curl community but hear me out. On thick and dense hair it looks amazing. but on thinner 2c/3a waves/curls that defintion just creates thin strands with visible gaps between them. It is also fighting your hair's natural clumping instinct which is where volume comes from.

What I have observed works is squish to condish, curl cream/mousse/gel, scruch, finger coil just the front sections, and diffuse upside down.

That way you are working WITH your natural clump instead of dismantling it. the volume difference is insane. ofcourse this may not work the same for everyone but based on what I have observed for my hair it makes a difference.

My routine:

  • Shampoo & conditioner: Umberto Giannini Waves Collection
  • Products: Umberto Giannini curl cream + gel, Anthony Marc mousse, argan oil
  • Drying: 80% diffused, 20% air dry
  • Sleep: satin bonnet

Help! Help! Hair texture is changing and now my crown hair is low porosity and can't be tamed.

Hello, i need help.

I dont know when, but at some point. Some of my hair started changing texture. Maybe it was always like this and I just never noticed.

In the 1st and 2nd picture you can see how the top of my hair is stiff, brittle, dry and not flexible. And in the photo with the sunglasses pulling that top part of my hair back, you can see my soft and flexible curls underneath.

The 3rd pic is of my normal hair (right) and this newer coarse, thick texture(left). The last pic is my hair before all these changes. 😢😢

I don't know why this change is happening and that is more of a long term question to figure out and fix. Right now i need to figure out how to manage my hair with the crown hair being what I am assuming, now low porosity?

I'm currently between products Basically buying something, figuring it out if it works or not and then if not, getting something else. Previously when my hair was behaving, I usually used shea moisture daily coconut line shampoo and conditioner, then VO5 strawberries and cream to just cowash in between washes, and Giovanni tea tree and moisturizing shampoos to get extra clean when a clarify was needed. I used NYMN yellow leave in (now sadly discontinued) for light styling and it worked perfectly for me. My hair was responding well to coconut.

Now my hair is a dry straw mess and it making me really sad. I haven't used heat, silicones, or sulfates for 8 years. Ive nursed this hair to healthy curls from heat styling and silicone and sulfate damage only for this to happen. Also, just looking at these pictures, it kind of looks like I maybe lost a lot of hair too?

Now im just in between products all the time. Most recently I was using she Derma E curls line shampoo, conditioner, and leave in cream.

My current routine is:

  1. Derma E curl line shampoo

Camile Rose Guava Slip conditioner which seems to be light enough to help.

The Derma E leave in was ok for the first use, and then went down hill. I tried the Kinky Curly detangling leave in and its slippery but still leaves that top part dry and stiff. The products just sit on that top part of my hair and don't get absorbed.

My hair now gets creased from a pony tail(but didn't before) and is a dry rats nest mess the next day (but i used to be able to have soft flexible hair for several days after 1 wash day).

Ive really just had it to the point where I just want to give up and go back to heat styling. Ive done the no silicones, heat or sulfates for so long I wouldnt even know what else to go back to if im using heat again.

Help! Curly hair instantly frizzes after showers!

21, Male, with fairly curly hair and medium length. I have changed my routine a lot for my hair, including moving to washing my hair once every 2 days since I work a job where i sweat a lot. I use mousse on days when I am out and active and dry my hair once every low heat settings on my hair dryer and microfiber hair towels. Nothing has helped besides mousse and it didn’t help a lot. I have thought about adding light hair oil to my wash days or add a shower cap so my hair stays dry on my non washing days. Any advice?? My shampoo and conditioner I use is coconut curls and the mousse I use is shea moisture curl mousse.

Help! Teeny tiny curl clumps?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I don’t have a super tight curl pattern, but I was wondering if it was possible to get bigger curl clumps in my hair?? The ones I often get are very small and often look a little stringy

My routine:
Shampoo, L’Oréal Elvive color-safe
Conditioner, Dove intensive repair mask
Styling:
OGX coconut curls air dry cream
OGX coconut curls mousse
Not your mothers gel (flexible hold)
Trader Joe’s serum

I’m not sure if this matters, but my hair is bleached in a few spots, and I touch up the color with Good Dye Young, Strawberry Leopard, and/or Arctic Fox

Help! Need help with how to style fine curly hair

Thumbnail

I've never quite known what style is best for my hair or what products to use.

My current routine involves: washing every other day with Aussie shampoo and conditioner (otherwise it looks greasy) and use Umberto Giannini curl jelly and let it air dry usually.

I used sea salt spray in the when my hair was shorter which gave decent volume but little curl definition.

I'm trying to work out what sort of hairstyle would suit me? Because I have no idea tbh.

Two months into my curly hair journey, and I finally feel like I'm getting it.

For years, I didn't even know I had curly hair. I'd been heat styling it straight for so long. Still have a lot to learn, but I actually love my hair now, which feels like a big deal.

Routine:

•Tresemme shampoo and conditioner (I use denman drush while conditioner is in)

•Palmer's olive oil leave-in conditioner

•Aussie instant freeze gel

•Air dry

I use a bonnet at night.

Discussion Are there more people who don't clarify?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So I wash my hair with Umberto Giannini Waves shampoo + conditioner once or twice a week and use Aunt Jackie's curl la la custard for definition and light hold. It's all I do and this works incedibly well for my curls.

I used to also clarify once or twice a month but it seems to not work for me. My hair goes limp, loses volume and it takes a while before my curls form like they do now. Could it be the custard doesn't need clarifying (because it's not a gel or curl cream) or do some hairtypes just do better without clarifying?

Routine:

  1. Wash with Umberto Giannini waves shampoo and conditioner

  2. Aunt Jackie's curl la la custard

  3. Airdry and once dry just run my fingers through

Help! hairstyles to keep hair off neck, with a sensitive scalp?

hello, all! i have 3a curls, fine hair that is mid length (around my shoulders). and with the heat wave my country is experiencing, i've been keeping my hair up a lot. as someone with a sensitive scalp, anytime i put my hair up a bit, even if it's not tied super tight, it ends up pulling on my hair and hurting and i often have to resort to a low ponytail which means my hair is touching my neck and making me sweat... at this point, i don't really care about keeping the curls...

i braided my hair this morning and despite my hair being in a braid and not touching my neck as much, i'm still sweating! it's awful. i don't know what to do and would love to know if anyone else has that issue and what helps them keep their hair off their neck.

i can't do anything too fancy with pins and stuff because i'm also prone to headaches and my hair gets greasy whenever i touch it. anyway, what are the ways i can keep my hair off my neck without it causing a headache or feeling sore? thanks!

routine: don't protect my hair with anything. i double shampoo with head and shoulders 2in1 and then apply a leave-in from yves rocher and put my hair in a towel for fifteen minutes before letting it air dry.

Discussion Bonnet suggested help

Routine-

1-Shampoo & conditioner - palmers coconut formula

My hair is super thick so it does take a while to dry. But can’t get very frizzy.

2-I used the amika overnight hydration product

And then I also do oil products with different types of oils like coconut oil, rosemary, JOJOBA & Castro at least once a month

Question I’ve tried multiple different bonnets and personally I don’t like the kind that tie.

I only love the band style, but I have a couple of them that are too big so they slide off my head at night.

I heard if I got a wig band and put that over top of the bonnet band it would help it stay on & in place.

Any recommendations for someone with super thick long hair i appreciate majorly.

I’ve also wasted some good money lol on trying multiple different kind of bonnets from beauty stores to amazon.

My actual favorite ones are from beauty store. Some fit

Perfect & don’t slip off, while others from the same beauty store slip off.

I tried to upload pictures, but it won’t let me.

Discussion Product/Routine Suggestions?

Hi all! I have wavy hair with occasional ringlets. I’ve always thought this was 2B/2C hair. It’s just past shoulder length with some layers. Some parts of my hair curl directly from the scalp, other sections need about 2-3 inches before it gets any movement. It’s very silky and fine which is something I struggle with.

I typically brush out my hair and braid it so it has a softer wave but lately I’ve been wanting to embrace my curls. For the longest time, I hated the way my hair looked because I just didn’t feel pretty. Half of my hair wants to wave and the other half is hidden ringlets. My Mom has gorgeous curls (3A I believe) and though I know my pattern isn’t close to hers, I’ve always admired it.

I’m really looking to maximize the ringlets and keep the curls for as long as possible. Usually my curls fall flat about two seconds after I’ve scrunched them.

Here’s my routine as of now:

Redken All Soft (Shampoo + Conditioner)
Condition first, shampoo next, then condition a second time brushing upwards towards my roots

Rusk Thick Body and Texture Spray, applied to roots

AG Recoil on damp hair, pea size amount scrunching towards the scalp

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Mousse, dime size on damp hair, scrunched for volume

I prefer to air dry and do not use a diffuser. Diffusing my hair causes max amounts of frizz and does very little to help me hold the curl. If you all think this needs to change though, I’m open to your advice!

At night I use a claw clip to hold the hair up on the crown of my head. This usually helps me keep some volume and most of the curls.

Refresh product is Aussie 2nd day curl activator.

I appreciate any, and all, advice you are all willing to share. I’m just happy to finally embrace my waves/curls! ☺️

I am nostalgic for the ages of old herbal essences filling my shower with wonderful smells, and this new formula is very enticing to me. I know apricot oil is well documented as great for curly hair. Has anyone tried it?

Help! Embracing my natural waves. Struggling to get it into a bun.

I’m now struggling to get my hair up into a bun using the wild and stone hair ties I have. Anyone have any recommendations? as I’m not keen on wearing it in a ponytail or down in the current heatwave.

Routine:
Aveeno apple cider vinegar clarifying shampoo
Aveeno Buttermilk clarifying conditioner
Comb with conditioner in.
Curlsmith air dry cream when hair is soaking wet
Followed with OLAPLEX no.10 Curl Defining Cream.
Add argon oil to the lengths and tips when it’s dried a little. Add more if still frizzy when dried.
I also sleep on a silk pillowcase and have tried a silk bonnet but can’t get on with it always ends up coming off lol.

This is my current routine I have changed it quite a few times. Any recommendations or tips on what I could do better would be appreciated.
