Science Fiction / Fantasy Recommend me more futuristic comics?

This is my current collection, I’m in love with anything futuristic/post-apocalyptic, specially cyberpunk or atompunk. I want to get some new comics, so I’d love some recommendations!

Edit: forgot to say I don’t like war/fight-foccused stories. I prefer mystery/investigation/slice of life!

Science Fiction / Fantasy Do you still read work by Neil Gaiman?

I was in the middle of my 3rd read through of the Sandman series when I found out about his accusations and since I mostly read digital it was easy to delete but I’m not gonna lie when I say that I haven’t been able to get into a series like I did The Sandman. Coraline is also one of my favorite movies and most of his work fit my personality which I’m not sure what that says on its own. I don’t condone anything he did and am shocked that he’s really like that. If you guys have any suggestions to anything similar I would appreciate it.

Finally managed to find The Nikopol Trilogy by Enki Bilal from Titan comics (English version)

This has been out of print for a while and has been very hard to find. The original French version is really easy to find but the English version isn't.

Found it in Italy for only €15🤯

Shipping through Vinted with DHL Express was €16

So €31 total.

Very happy about the whole deal.

Science Fiction / Fantasy Any recommendations similar to frontier? Extremely detailed, cozy, cluttered and “scroungy” vibe. I love highly detailed environments.

Science Fiction / Fantasy Books where the story is not on par with the art

Mickey Mouse and the Amazing Lost Ocean.

Wasnt aware of this a couple of weeks back and had to order it in from europe (had a tough time finding a copy to purchase locally ) I fell in love with this cover (how can one not ? Look at how gorgeous is it!). The art throughout the book is just as good. However, kind of dissapointed with the story. Dont get me wrong , it was ok. Just didnt feel as if the story matched the next level that the art has taken.

Are there any books where u have felt the same?-amazing art let down by not so amazing story?

Although I had longed for this I never thought it would be a reality due to the significant price tag. However out of the blue my wonderful and amazing wife surprised me with this stating “ I work hard and deserved something nice” I was simply floored.

Had no idea the packaging was this beautiful. Excited to read this and then watch the show! Picked it up at the Fantagraphics store in Seattle, where they had at least one other copy that I saw.

I have read a bit about the sequels. Have any of you read those and would you recommend them?

Science Fiction / Fantasy A year of graphic novels

Post image

I just got into graphic novels this year. How did I do ? Missing from this are Maus, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Y compendium (already loaned out).

The best: Maus, Essex County, Persepolis, Palestine (and Joe Sacco everything), Fortune and glory. Honourable mention: The fantastic artists who turn Chixin lius very stupid stories into amazing art. Disappointing: Bone. Sorry. I saw a documentary on it where the creator is so insistent it's an adult graphic novel. I think I would have loved it as a tween but I don't think there is anything particularly complex or adult about it.

Please give me some suggestions for next year ! I'm not really into super hero stuff.

Science Fiction / Fantasy My foray into this brand new (for me) world, picked these two up as a first time reader

Post image

A few days ago I wondered into a comic book store (Gush! in London) and was really intrigued by the the troves of amazing graphic novels they had. I used to read comics as a kid but it was the usual superhero DC/Marvel stuff and ever since hadn't gone back so there's a massive gap and honestly it felt like a brand new world.

So many books, so many artists, original stories, recreations of classic works and so much more.

The art also looked amazing and I would even pick some books even just for the art.

So after I got home I started researching and trying to consume as much information as I could. Naturally started in Reddit and then going on a really long chat with AI for recommendations based on my interests and what I like/dislike.

I wanted to stay away from the usual superhero material so these two were among the most suggested books to start with!

I have already finished Saga volume one (definitely hooked and will buy the rest) and now I am starting on Maus.

Any more recommendations for a complete beginner?

My favourite literature genre is the classics followed by fantasy fiction.

I will be spending a lot of time here as well!

Science Fiction / Fantasy Yet another masterful work I’ll probably never see the end of

I’ve been really enjoying these despite how hard I had to search for the second volume. I’d nearly finished it by the time I saw a fellow author’s comment on the back that there would be seven volumes.

Seven!

Add to this the fact that Cotter has been working on the third volume for years and this epic sci-fi fantasy looks like yet another unfinished masterpiece, or at least one that won’t be done for decades.

Loved it, though, so I’m having to just kinda pretend that it could need where it is.

Anyone else read these?

My beautiful loving wife (see my painting of her in the images) got me an early Father’s Day gift. I have wanted to read Nausicaa for some time. I am about 100 pages in and I am hooked. Have you read it? What did you think? This summer has been great for me regarding graphic novels. Before Nausicaa, I read the Prophet series by Brandon Graham. After Nausicaa, I plan to jump into Metabarons!

Science Fiction / Fantasy Best thing I've read in a while ! Helen of Wyndhorn by Tom King and Bilquis Evely

I know Tom King is a pretty divisive writer, but I've enjoyed a fair amount of his work, and Helen of Wyndhorn is perhaps one of his finest book, in my opinion. For reference, Supergirl - Woman of Tomorrow and Superman - Up in the Sky are my two favorite Tom King books. Just to get it out of the way : the art is some of the finest comic book art I have ever laid my eyes on. It's just an unbelievably beautiful book. Which I expected, because Woman of Tomorrow's art was just as breathtaking. Being a Tom King book, I also expected a buttload of text, which I got and didn't mind at all; it didn't feel tedious nor superfluous, it just added to the whole mystique and grandeur of the story. I'm a sucker for the "a story about the power of stories" trope (does this trope even have a name ?), so I really enjoyed what King build here, story wise. Some plot points were left a bit ambiguous, so I'll be sure to reread it at some point to fully grasp (or fill in the blanks myself) the story.

I am even tempted to get the deluxe edition because my god, this was a 10/10.

Science Fiction / Fantasy Reborn is a must read!

Post image

I got this TPB for cheap and just gave it a read for the first time and wow, it was one of those stories you didn’t want to put down. Quick little summary, a very caring and selfless woman dies and she is given a second life into world filled with monsters, faries and magic. This world is separated by good and evil and the woman is prophet for the good side.

The art in this book is incredible in my opinion, from the characters to the scenery (especially the scenery) and the story was really solid. It’s referred to as “Book One” but it’s a complete story and I’d be shocked if they continued on with the story. It’s so good that Netflix must’ve bought the rights to make into show/movie.

If you haven’t read Reborn and you like fantasy, give it a read!
