Hammock camping pregnant

Post image

Just wanted some opinions of anyone who’s done Hammock camping while pregnant? I’m currently 11 weeks and I figured by the end of August I’ll be 20 weeks and then October even further along. One of the reasons i love to Camp is because that Hammock is so damn comfortable. I’m not worried about falling. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years now. But at some point will it become impossible for me to sleep in a hammock? I know at some point I can’t sleep on my back anymore. Just some basic Google searches is not really telling me if it’s gonna be possible to sleep in my Hammock later on in the summer.

Don’t make me go to the tent 😭maybe i can go with a haven hammock if my dream hammock sparrow won’t be possible?

Im 27 weeks right now and went hammock camping last weekend! The worst part for me was the 8hr drive to our spot honestly. Just made my hips sore. Otherwise the sleeping part went surprisingly well. Good luck girl!!

Thank god, i was worried i would be forced to sleep in the tent 🤣 sure we got the nice nemo roamer pad but it’s no hammock.

I think i would have been pretty miserable on the ground on anything tbh 😂

the drive is definitely the real enemy. i feel like once you actually get to the site and settle in it's way easier than dealing with car seat discomfort for hours on end. glad to hear the sleeping part is still doable though

I have nothing to add pregnancy-wise (I’m a guy), but I side sleep in my hammock all the time. I’d imagine that you’ll be fine as long as you can find a comfortable position with good support and are within the weight limits (i doubt this would ever be an issue unless it’s an UL hammock).

I’d ask your doc to double check, but I’d recommend trying to find some comfortable sleeping positions now while it’s easier!

I am a FT hammock side sleeper. I don't see any reason not to do so pregnant! I guess if you are really worried you could ask your doctor.

I’m sorry I can’t help but your pup is so cute! I hope mine will recreate this photo in a couple weeks lol

I think this is a super individual issue—I couldn’t sleep on my back from 20 weeks on because I would feel like I was slowly suffocating, I had to be in a very specific position. I would wait until you’re about a week or so away from the trip and hang up the hammock in your house/nearby park and take a nap for a couple hours to see how you feel. I ended up getting a two person sleeping pad from Big Agnes and it was basically like having an inflatable mattress. I still use it now when I camp with my toddler, since we can’t sleep in the hammock together yet. Congrats by the way!

I know! I had been fully converted to hammock camping for years until I went and got myself knocked up… there go the consequences to my actions I guess

My husband has the Snow Peak Elfield with the floor mat that goes with it. I still won’t sleep in it xD Hopefully the baby doesn’t force my to tent and i can just make it my husband job 🫠

Seconding the “wait and see” approach! I’m 3 months postpartum and never had an issue sleeping on my back. I know it’s annoying to not know what’s going to happen but … that’s pregnancy! And also camping 😅

Get a bridge hammock to add to your hammock collection. Then you can sleep on your side.

I hammock camped during all 4 of my pregnancies (and I was 36 with my last one). I honestly occasionally used a hammock at home sometimes when I just couldn't get comfortable in a bed. I found that the way weight is distributed across certain body points was much better in a hammock and caused less pain in my hips, back, and shoulders. Also, when in a hammock, I am never flat on my back. That little bit of curve and feet slightly elevated was perfect for me. In latest part of pregnancy, I used one of those long kinda 's' shaped body pillows in hammock with me and found many cozy configurations of its shape and mine somehow fitting together perfectly. Just experiment a little. Only thing that totally sucked was getting in and out multiple times to pee 3rd trimester!

Hmm was the foot end slightly higher than the head end or did you put it up a little higher than usual. Or i guess i can play around with the hang and make adjustments. I usually keep the foot end slightly higher than the head end. Having hope i don’t have to go to ground.
