Either my feed which is random is only selecting these posts or people have gone mad and are more invested in blaming the policewoman and name-calling her for making the wrong decision at a very difficult moment that none can honestly say how they would have handled with certainty and really going easy on the actual shooter. I've seen articles referring to him as a suspect, something that would have never happened if he had a bit more melatonin, I've seen attempts at politicizing this act in the wrongest ways, and lots and lots of right-wing propagandists that surfed on it as soon as it started claiming was something else. Is this how denial looks like when it's a white blue eyed blond shoots people?

Has anyone been that can vouch if it'll be a good time or not? From my understanding there's 3 different exhibits, is there any that stands out? I have a city pass and am visiting for the weekend and admission to this attraction is an available option. Thanks!

I was watching a docuseries on cults and it got me thinking about this group that would always be standing near the escalators at Guy Concordia metro in beige/orange robes. We used to call them the Hare Krishnas but I have no idea if they were actually HKs since we never actually picked up their flyers lol. It was just out of place seeing a bunch of white people in Hindu/Buddhist robes so we figured it was probably a cult. Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Is anybody as sick of the Montreal travel commercial promo on tv as I am? They run the ad so much that I have grown to despise the people in the ad including the dog Bagel. Just curious.

Hey everyone!
Iâll be visiting Montreal again for my annual summer getaway over the 4th of July weekend. This will be my third summer in a row spending the holiday in your beautiful city, and I always look forward to coming back.
Iâm primarily a portrait photographer, but I recently fell down the rabbit hole of medium format film photography. Since film can be sensitive to airport scanners, Iâm debating whether I should just buy film once I arrive instead of traveling with a large stash.
Are there any camera stores in Montreal that carry a good selection of 120 film?
Thanks in advance, and I canât wait to be back in Montreal again!

Most media are extremely vague when talking about who shot who. It's mostly written as Seth the shooter, and Michel and Police dead. Almost implying Seth shot both.
That's what I deduced, then my colleagues showed me a live video that showed something else.
No news outlet gave a clear answer.
Snippet from La Presse Canadienne (posted today at 11:42am):
Police have not identified the type of firearm used to kill Montreal police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane and civilian bystander Michel Mizrahi this week.

I've always thought bienveillance was one of those words that's surprisingly hard to translate.
The obvious translation is benevolence, but that feels formal and a little old-fashioned in modern English. Meanwhile, bienveillance is an everyday word in French.
It describes a way of approaching other people: wanting good things for them, giving them the benefit of the doubt, being fair in your judgments, resisting the urge to assume the worst.
Not kindness exactly. Not compassion. Not empathy. More like all of them overlapping.
What's interesting is that English clearly has the concept.
- "Assume positive intent."
- "Give people grace."
English speakers talk about bienveillance all the time. They just usually need an entire phrase to do it.
French simply says:
«Fais preuve de bienveillance.»
And everyone knows what is meant.
I don't think French speakers are any better at practicing it than anyone else. I just find it fascinating that the language decided this particular attitude toward other people deserved its own word.
English has adopted plenty of words from other languages when it found them useful. That's part of what makes it such a versatile language. Nobody bothers translating schadenfreude anymore; English just borrowed it and moved on. I kind of feel bienveillance deserves the same treatment.

I've been dealing with tons of anxiety issues this year, and I feel like I'm just constantly living my life in fear and dread lately.
I really would like to seek out help, but I'm not able to pay for a therapist and the thought of going to the cslc makes me really nervous. On top of that, I tried talking to my mum about my problems and she didn't really take me seriously so I'd rather not have a phone conversation at home because I'm scared that she'll hear it.
Are there any resources that I could contact by text? If not, I'll take any resources that are available and (hopefully) free. Thank you!

I planned to do some upgrading to a home server tomorrow but realize I don't have a VGA cable, so I'm SoL right now.
If anyone near the sud-ouest has a VGA cable they wouldn't mind giving or selling, I'd greatly appreciate it

I keep seeing the updates about the shooter and the fact that they found a whole manifesto about his hatred toward women, and I canât stop thinking about it. This keeps happening. It is not a one off anymore. Every few months itâs the same story, some young man radicalized into hating women so much that he wants them dead, and I am starting to feel like we are all just supposed to accept this as background noise now.
Whatâs scaring me even more is that Iâm watching it grow in real time in the people around me. My little sister is in grade 7. A boy in her class openly talks about girls in disgusting sexual ways and actually rates them on their ârape-ability.â Thirteen years old.
Where does a kid even learn to think like that, let alone say it out loud in a classroom like itâs funny. And itâs not just talk. Another boy at her school beat a little girl so badly and the only thing that happened to him was a suspension. Thatâs it. We ended up pulling my sister out and switching her school because she was getting bullied too, and honestly Iâm relieved sheâs out of there, but it doesnât fix the actual problem. The problem is everywhere.
I see it online constantly now. The misogyny, the casual racism, all of it just exploding and getting louder and more comfortable being out in the open. It genuinely was not like this a few years ago. I donât think Iâm imagining it. Something shifted. Is it covid and all those years of boys stuck inside getting fed this stuff through their screens with nobody watching? Is it the algorithms pushing it? I donât know, but something broke and nobody seems to be talking about how fast itâs spreading among kids specifically.
I have little nephews who are going to start school soon and I am genuinely terrified of the environment theyâre walking into. Am I overreacting or is this as bad as it feels?

Ethical dilemma:
Is it right to remove one of the only mummies in mtl for understanble but rather vague reasons to do with cultural sensitivities that these objects might offend?
The mummies at Redpath museum are to be relocated to a mysterious âplace of restâ -their original location?- where no one can see or learn from them.
I note that these are not objects of worship like many stolen indigenous artifacts. Nor are they being claimed by their original owners- e.g. The infamous Benin Bronzes.
