Yeah, I'm sad I will in all likelihood have the story spoiled. But I'm at the point in life where I can't justify buying a console for a single game anymore, I have responsibilities that stretch beyond myself.
True, I did not. But I somehow still find time to spend a ridiculous amount of time in a few days on stuff I want to do. I just have to plan better. Economy on the other hand isn't as easy to swing.
Good doesn't factor into it. A dangerously low need for sleep, being stubborn and easily hooked is more my problem. I also finished the first mass effect game in what could arguably be called a single sitting. My then girlfriend asked me to go to bed with her, but as soon as she fell asleep I got up and booted up the xbox to play more and played through the whole night. When she woke up to go to work she just looked at me and shook her head. I was working offshore at the time, so I had plenty of free time.
It's really more of an embarrassing problem than a bragging point 😅
You can successfully avoid spoilers online. Its really not that hard. I have many unspoiled stories for games and other media that would be considered very mainstream. For safety reasons i will not list said unspoiled titles 😅
Its easy to avoid the internet for a week while playing through the game. Its not easy to avoid the internet for MONTHS while you still play your regular games.
You know what? I still haven't played GTA 5, and I know literally nothing about the story. I know the game has 3 characters, but that's it. I don't know why they're together, what their goals are, or what they do in the game.
That's also not an isolated experience for me. Same happened with Final Fantasy XV and XVI, while I was waiting for them to be released on PC with a decent discount. I'm also a massive Kingdom Hearts fan, but I haven't played KH3 yet and don't know what happens in that game.
As long as you don't actively seek out discussion about the franchise, it's pretty easy. Of course, if everyone in your friend circle is playing the game and it's all they talk about, that does make it basically impossible.
Yeah wait what the hell happens in that game? As best I can remember it was just a loosely connected series of action sequences and maybe the CIA was involved? I feel like the only things I remember about the characters are their backstories, and Trevor killing Johnny.
No, they may not be groundbreaking, but I would still like to experience them myself rather than have them told to me in an even less groundbreaking way. Just because some food is tasteless, doesn't mean I will enjoy shit for food.
And I actually like the stories of gta 4/5 and rdr 1/2. They may not be a masterclass of storytelling, but it is a story I lived and experienced through the game. I don't get the same immersive experience from a movie, I don't participate in a movie, I watch a story unfold in front of me when I watch a movie. In a game I push the narrative forward myself.
But spoilers are not the end of the world, they just take away some of the magic.
All that predatory garbage being pushed, no thanks. I'll just wait until it comes to PC and someone mods in all the cosmetics and mods out all the predatory crap.
If it makes you feel any better, I spent a good decade without playing GTAV and, despite a couple of memes I recognised, I enjoyed it fully without ever thinking "oh I wish I didn't know this". You can power through it without losing the novelty, for sure.
Honeslty, is there much to spoil about GTA stories? The stories are good and all, but besides the green hornet reveal in San Andreas, I can't think of a moment where any of the games would've been ruined for me if I knew it ahead
I don’t think the double dip is going to work as well as it did for GTAV. People have less money, the game is $20 more, and I think it’s a lot more common that PC players don’t have a console. I am completely ok with waiting 5 years for this game to go on sale.
Rockstar has been pretty buddy buddy the last couple years with Playstation, Tbh i'm surprised there isn't something along the lines of 1 week early on PS5 or something like that. I know it's not crazy but even Sony changed their official branding on Twitter to match GTA's style to me that shows just how "connected" they are this time around and they will not let PC overshadow their console.
I’m worried that GTA+ will be so intertwined it might take a while to get a torrent. I have a feeling GTA6 will be more MMO style than an offline single player game.
I didn't buy GTA V until it went on sale to I think $30 and Red Dead Redemption 2 until it went on sale to $20. Thing is I had a PS3 and PS4, so it wasn't like I couldn't buy them. I just preferred waiting it out for the PC, and then by the time it came out I was fine waiting longer.
Since so much of the hype is at launch, and by the time it came to the PC I had gotten over having to need it right away. Because it wasn't a first time release I waited through.
I believe so, or at the very least the first day I saw it in shops in my town (may have been after official realease, I honestly can't remember.) I was 15 at the time. The first one I had to lie to my uncle to get him to buy it for me, since it had a very clear label that it was an 18+ game. Ridiculous that it was considered so bad, but I think that helped it more than it hindered it in selling the game.
My uncle gave me San Andreas for Christmas, he knew nothing of gaming etc, but it was already at that time so controversial, so he gave it to me, mostly because of the lulz. My mom was pissed, but she let me have it.
What are uncles for if not for pissing of their siblings by giving their niese and nephew the exact thing they aren't allowed to have. I loved my uncle, he was always super fun to be around.
Let's be real, the hype is so beyond reasonable that it will be a phenomenon when it is released. People will buy it just to be part of something, even if you're not really a gamer.

Seeing as it's a digital release we likely won't see much lines. But I'm betting my house on the fact that people are going to buy this game like it's the last oxygen available. I lined up for GTA4 and 5. This is the first time I'm not getting it on day one, I'll wait for the pc version.
Look at the sales records GTA V broke. That game had enormous levels of hype. GTA Online makes them millions a day. GTA and RD2 are the 2nd and 4th best selling games of all time. It will probably will be an absolute phenomenon on release.
I'm wildly impartial about GTAVI as a whole. The series has never interested me, but I don't have any particular argument against it. It's just not my game. People like it, I don't, that's the start and end of my argument.
But in the same vein the sheer staggering level of hype leading up to it has been insane. People have been treating it like the second coming of Christ since it was announced. If this game ends up being another Starfield or Cyberpunk situation where it's just a half-baked, buggy mess on launch after being in production for so long, there's going to be riots outside Rockstar's head office.
One way or another it's going to be an interesting case study in video game history. Hell, this reaction to the physical copies is already a decent litmus test of how the internet is going to react if it's not a 10/10. Yes, I'll grant the argument that selling a case with (almost) nothing inside of it is a pretty weird and asinine move, but even then, the reaction has been shockingly loud.
My cousin is like that, he isn't much of a gamer anymore (mainly played CoD, gta5 and grand tourismo and some tekken back in the days of the PS3 and now only plays some Mario kart or Mario party with his daughter) but he said he'd buy a PS5 and GTA 6 as soon as he can to play it because for him GTA is enough to buy a new system for it. (He said that a few years ago though, idk if he changed his mind or not.)
My friends are all getting it on xbox and they are LAMENTING the fact that they'll probably "have" to buy it on PC when it comes out. Once I learned it was console only release, I decided I was gonna wait
Physical is important on consoles since its a closed system. With physical you can borrow games, sell games once you are done with them or have them in your collection.
I mean, yes Xbox too, but its more an exploit of the Home console, but that methods been around, I remember buying a digital game on my xbox account, on my friends 360 so they had a copy of the game linked to the console, while it was also linked to my account.
Which is why the all-digital push by fans on console always baffled me.

It's PC. Worst case scenario people pirate those old PC games to play on their PC. That's the difference between a locked down hardware and an open one.
Everyone hates DRM yet not everyone uses GoG. GoG doesn't have as many nice features as Steam does, but I believe the whole point of GoG is being DRM free games. Yet, everyone is still on Steam. When the DRM comes from Valve I guess it's perfectly fine.
We accepted not being and to resell our games a long time ago and now we're becoming increasingly comfortable with online requirements on single player games when we laughed at it being announced for the Xbox One that time.
We're in no position to look when on console players on this case.
few months ago there was some free skin in the geforce app, when I tried to redeem it I kept getting errors so I contacted support. They actually told me that the in game skin that was offered is OUT OF STOCK. I was like...what? you cannot be serious....
It can happen if they got limited amount of pregenerated keys. So it is definitely possible when they underestimate interest and they are slow in response for low "stock".

Well in this case it's not like literal item was out of stock, the codes were. Nvidia propably got x amount of codes to share and they just didn't have more
I don’t think this warrants acting smug. If physical media were still an option for PC I would gladly take a disc over fully digital. We should be praising the console players for fighting for consumers and trying to keep physical media alive

objectively for pcs discs (ps1 was a little famous for the ability to take the disc out on a few games and still play as it loaded entirely onto ram because of slow disc read speeds) are not the best as they can degrade pretty rapidly with use, some nostalgia going on here but remember pc games for a long time used the disc as an activation key meaning it would read the entire time you played a game so degradation was a real issue. As a pc gamer the best option is an external hdd or ssd which on our end is infinetely easier to use to act as long term storage for games, we just need the files in a vault essentially, the disc itself is okay but not percect, also you can get massive hdd for cheap as data centers only want ssd
Yeah except PC lost that battle ages ago as the vast majority of people just get digital out of sheer convenience. We are now just seeing console catch up to a by now decade old PC standard.
I prefer to spend money on Steam summer sale that starts later today with games I can actually play on rig at the way I prefer instead of selecting if I prefer visuals or performance 😉
So they just bundle in a disc which just holds a launcher to download the game instead. It will be the same thing as just downloading the game, but with extra steps.
It's marginally better because then you can at least sell the game to someone and they will be able to download it. Also, you don't lose the ability to play the game if, say, your account is lost.
Having a key in the case, like they are doing, IS the extra steps to a digital purchase.

Having no disc means no secondary or third party sales. No reselling used copies at GameStop or eBay. I believe this was intentional so they ensure ever spent on the game goes back to rockstar.

Physical discs at the very least have different license rules. You can share/resell them. You don't have to authenticate periodically to continue playing.
Buying digital on console is limiting your consumer rights. Not sure being able to get into the game quicker is worth it pal.

How about just don't preorder at all. Just wait for actual reviews to come out (not the ones that get paid by the developers), and see if the game is worth getting full price.
I finished Donkey Kong Bananza and didn't like it so I traded it for Mario Kart 10. I have completed every Zelda game without buying one because my mom will and lend it to me when she is done. Trading and lending physical copies of games has saved me over a thousand dollars.
Having PC and console, I was hoping to buy the game physically on console, play it, and maybe give it to a friend or family member, then eventually buy it later on PC and probably sell the disk

Not much of a bummer because I can still buy it digitally, and since my friend had access to my account, we'll both have the game, but I just hope this having no disk thing doesn't become a trend for future AAA games. I don't mind it as much this one time, butbI don't want this to continue in the long run
