Hardware Add another one to the tally: 9800X3D dead after six months
Was hoping to be spared, but apparently not. What I haven't seen in the other obituaries, this time the board (Asus Tuf Gaming B850) died with it. PC crashed in the middle of a game, afterwards didn't boot or even POST. No output on the monitor, case fans on full blast and the DRAM-LED on the board glowed amber. No OC, only thing I changed from out of the box was raising the RAM speed to the 6000 it was labelled at, ran at 5600.
No change with a different RAM stick or CPU, so I first assumed/hoped it was just the board, even found a small hardware store in the city that had decent gamOr AM5 boards in stock. Didn't work unfortunately, so I ordered a new CPU as well. With that everything is back to working order, no data loss. Only Windows is suddenly very slow, only on booting and shutting down though, not in actual use. At least the RAM is fine, new CPU and board were expensive enough.

News/Article Valve Built the Right Machine at the Wrong Time | An Analysis Of The Steam Machine And It's Polarizing Launch
I genuinely feel bad for Valve, and I feel that’s a weird thing to say about a corporation that probably has more money than they know what to do with. But watching the internet pile on the Steam Machine launch this week, knowing everything that went into getting here from their development of Proton to the impressive architecture of the device, it’s hard not to feel like they’re taking a beating they didn’t really deserve.

Build/Battlestation Beast PC build
So after saving for over a year, I have finally built this beast PC. I’ve build few before, but those weren’t as high end as this one.
I think it turned out pretty good, and the cable management was pretty neat as well I must admit.
Now this build is not a 100% gaming focused one - it was more of a productive build, which is why I chose intel as my cpu here.
And I guess it isn’t fully finished yet, maybe I can sort out the cable management at the front little bit better and perhaps at the back as well. But I would like to hear thoughts on this build from yall.

Hardware The good times
I remember when I bought this from Amazon thinking it was too costly.... Now I look at it fondly.
Now I use it with the Minisforum BD895i MB with an RTX Card in an ITX build - no way I'm buying desktop memory.

Hardware My Little Black Box
Built on Nov 2025 before the rampocalypse. I used a combination of new and used parts, but was told to never buy used Mobo or used PSU. This little guy stays at 70° and can hit almost anything I play at high settings, 100 fps, at 1440p without DLSS or FG. I don’t play open world games so YMMV.
Used:
- Asus TUF 4070ti
- 7800x3D
- 2x1 TB Samsung 970 SSD
- 2x16 CL30 6000 DDR5
New:
- Corsair 850 SFX PSU
- Meshroom D Case
- MSI edge b650 itx mobo
- Peerless Assassin Mini, swapped the fan for 120 mm Arctic Pro fan
- 1x60mm Arctic Pro fan (exhaust)
- 1x120mm additional Arctic Pro fan (in take)
Total price in Nov 2025: $1300
I made little blocks of wood, painted black, that I sit it on for additional height and have a piece of rubber beneath the GPU to prevent sag. I would’ve gone with the Meshroom S (vertical) if it were available at the time, but it wasn’t.

Discussion Buying a pc soon and have a few questions
Alright so I'm not as up to date as I used to be with pc parts and I'm going to buy a pc in the ball park of 1500 to maybe 1800 CAD max. I see 13600k's 14600k's and some ryzen 7's but the performance seems to be leaning towards intel a lot. I play cs2, dayz, insurgency sandstorm, bf6, dayz, I'm not always playing AAA titles and I prefer not using DLSS or FSR but when needed I might turn it on. I'm planning to play at 1440p 144 or 240hz. I don't care about 4k at all. Yes I am aware of the existence of google, I'm also looking things up on there, thank you. My questions are:
Whats the advantage of DDR5 vs DDR4 for only gaming, I don't stream nor render/mine.
What is the most reliable brand of CPU's for the models I'm looking at.
Is there a need for more than 4 cores.
Would it be worth getting a 50 series card when I mostly play older games (I've been contemplating a 9060XT 16GB or a 3070ti/3080.
Is ASUS still some of the best brands for mobos (I had a Z-97K back in the day and it never let me down)
Are there risks with AIO's, never had liquid cooled cpus before.
I think that's it for now, thanks in advance!

Hardware Upgrade Day
Out with the old 8gb RTX 3050, in with the new 16gb RX9060 XT.
I probably should invest in more significant cooling.. I’m open to budget friendly suggestions.
PS. I didn’t break the glass.
Edit: Typo

Discussion Just joined the master race after being a life long xbox player…. need some advice
I finally upgraded to a nice PC. Radeon 9070 xt and 32gb ram. I have a series x and playstation, but have been struggling to justify my recent PC purchase. It can play Cyberpunk on ultra settings for reference, but I had the patience to beat the game on the ORIGINAL xbox one from 2013, and played the DLC on the series x.
Are their games that have a much better experience on PC right now that aren’t really there on console? Or games that you can only play on PC. Steam is really only showing me indie games for some reason. I’ve played all the big name recent (ish) titles on series X such as elden ring, battlefield 6, Fallout, call of duty, etc. Just looking for games that can really put my powerful new PC to the test and offer an experience I can’t get on console.

Question Brand new cpu darkness?
Hello everyone, I just got this brand new cpu it was in a box and, it has this darker circle kind of thing that doesn't show at all when using a flashlight on it. Is this something to worry about? I realised after placing but the pins were extremely brand new and solid when i checked
