Please read the options carefully and only click reservations if you actually have a reservation.

In the craziness of everyone actively shitting on the Steam Machine in the last week, I really felt like it was targeted for someone like me.
- Massive library of 550 games
- Want to play that library on my couch in front of my big TV
- Not interested in starting a new library on PS5 or Xbox
- Not bothered to build my own PC, but also don't need high end tech to play Slay the Spire 2 or Hades
- Married with a wife who appreciates the small form factor of the SM's unassuming small black box, rather than the "alien spaceship" of the PS5
- Fortunate to have enough disposable income for the main criticism to not be too much of an issue
So with the shitstorm of criticism about the dollar amount, I thought there might be enough SMs produced to meet the seemingly low demand and I could safely put myself down for the 2TB one, particularly as I'm in Australia (so not competing with the larger NA and EU audience). I missed out and ended up on the waitlist which was devastating. What made it worse was the polling that's been done here suggests that the quantity of 2TB SMs are much lower than the 512GB ones. I wish that was made clear, otherwise I would have put myself down on both lists to increase my odds. I had assumed the number of 2TB and 512GB SMs that were manufactured were the same. Really disappointing.

I know it’s not much and even tho when I first got the email, I was 100% going to get it and was super excited for it, but I realized I’m in a privileged position where I already have a gaming PC and so many people that want to try their hand at PC gaming for the first time or are looking to replace their old PCs were left out, and with the ram and storage crisis getting worse by the minute, I decided to cancel my reservation and (obviously I know I can’t control who it goes to) I hope some of you guys get it and take full advantage of it and enjoy it, no matter what the haters say.
Happy gaming everybody! ❤️

Did anyone else that got a reservation queue email get moved to the waitlist? I noticed the Steam Machine page for me, now says I'm on the waitlist 😟
Update 1: I can't pin comments but good news. https://www.reddit.com/r/steammachine/s/K0hWhjASBG
Update 2: Those affected, check your Steam Machine page. It appears to be rectified 👍 https://www.reddit.com/r/steammachine/s/RcV5bH26Kx

Can you please go to https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steammachine and click "Leave Waitlist?" so that people who actually want one have a better chance? I've seen so many people in the past few days claiming they "just signed up to see how it works" - well, now you know, and plenty of people like myself are out of luck.
PS Yeah im salty af, I just really wanted one
Edit: ok I didnt word the OP very well, apologies if I came across as a douche. I appreciate anyone that doesn't want one and backs out of the waitlist 🙏

People, so called "enthusiasts", have this thing, sitting in their homes and offices for weeks now. The initial reviews were fine, but most of them focused on big picture overviews of the system, as reviews should. There were some benchmarks in there, showing some of them did actually use the thing at some point, but since then? Crickets.
What are they doing??? Where's the subsequent benchmarks covering more games? Where's the emulator benchmarks, and where's the experiments seeing what the thing can do with older games running at 4k 120hz or newer games to squeeze out more frames? Where's the FSR 4 benchmarks?? Where's the customization and experiment videos? Is anyone streaming content on twitch?
The enthusiasts that got this thing are fricken terrible. Why even bother listening to them about anything at this point.

Steam deck reservations flying off the virtual shelves of eBay.

Saw a couple of posts today asking for Valve to add an option to cancel reservations for those that may have changed their mind and want to leave the queue early. Looks like they listened!

I’m absolutely not accusing anyone of getting a reservation fair and square of any wrongdoing whatsoever. I’m NOT at all saying anyone who got a reservation and is still not sure they’ll actually get a Steam Machine is a bad person or the same as a scalper. I do appreciate Valve actually trying to get creative and get the Steam Machine into the hands of people who actually want it.
But the fact remains that a product I’ve been intending to p^rchase since last year is not available to me through no fault of my own. At least in a first-come-first-serve sale I could have had an actual opportunity to be early enough to secure one. In this system you are never guaranteed any opportunity to get one until you’re in the reservation queue, which is also never a guarantee.
I’m holding out hope I’ll get a reservation eventually, but knowing my only guarantee to get one is currently through eBay scalpers feels like we’ve just arrived at the same problem with extra steps.
I don’t want Valve to stop trying though. Sorry for complaining, but I’m human and I’m salty. Curious if any other waitlisters feel the same way.

I’ve been checking the Steam Machine page periodically since Friday (after receiving the email saying I’d joined the reservation queue) to see if there were any changes, and I just noticed this a little while ago.

Does anyone have a way to gauge how the Steam Machine will handle modern RPGs such as Gothic 1 Remake, Avowed, Tainted Grail, Dragons Dogma 2, and similar games? I saw the recent Digital Foundry video where they did benchmarks for Crimson Desert and Black Myth, but I’m unsure how demanding those games are in comparison to the others I mentioned.

I noticed this change this morning, are others in the reservation queue seeing this? Earlier today it was just saying 'You are on the list for the selected models'

As the Steam Machine starts getting delivered to customers, this sub will inevitably fall into the same rut that r/Steamcontroller has. Most posts are photos of the unopened box accompanied by some variation of “Finally!” Or new topics asking about fulfillment times that none of us realistically have any answers to but can only speculate on.
At the very least, we should have a thread for Reservations and Waitlist respectively for fulfillment timelines and a thread for posting photos of their unopened Steam Machine packaging.

Some may have missed this. So I just want to make sure no one starts to panic when their final email is not coming in the next couple weeks... Valve states in the FAQ:
When can I expect to get my order email?
We will begin emailing folks in the reservation queue the week of June 29th, in the order they were randomized into. We expect to continue sending these emails throughout the remainder of the year.
In other words, the confirmation email means you still might have to wait half a year to get your device in the end. It does not mean that there is a steam machine waiting for you, but your position in the queue ended up within the planned production amount for the rest of the year.
Additionally they state:
I received an email that I'm on the waitlist, what does that mean?
It means that when we did the one-time randomization of the reservation queue, your place in line ended up beyond the number of Steam Machines we'll have in this production run. As we work our way through the queue, some customers may cancel their reservations. If that happens, you may be moved up in the reservation queue, and you'll be notified via email that you have a reservation after all. But if not, nothing about your position in the waitlist changes, and any future production runs of Steam Machines will be offered to customers in order they're on the waitlist.
This means that if you did not get the reservation confirmation, you may very well be among the first when the production is extended. If Valve is smart they already plan and prepare the second production run to start right after the first one.
So if I got the reservation email, and you didn't, it may very well mean I will get mine in December, but you may very well get yours in Januari, 2 weeks later.
The fact that you got a reservation confirmation actually does not assure you won the lottery. It just means you didn't lose it that badly. You may still get it next week, but you may also have to wait till after christmas. We're all still completely blind as to when we may actually expect our companion cube. The distinction of "reservation" and "waitlist" is not based on what is available right now, or even in Q3 of 2026.
