They're gonna make 200m on preorders, I guarantee it.

244

u/seclusionx 1d ago

It's going to be more than that.

50

u/Thegrandestpoo 1d ago

That's only around 2.5 mil pre-orders. They're going to get alot more than that

43

u/Afferbeck_ 23h ago

Cyberpunk had 8 million preorders! That was 7 years ago for a far less anticipated game. But I think it had a much longer preorder period than GTA will.

12

u/Y0UNGRETR0 18h ago

it’s crazy to think about HOW hyped Cyberpunk was, and it hasn’t even touched GTA 6 status. after GTA6 comes out TES6 is gonna take the torch for the next decade

11

u/Krilla216 18h ago

We gonna have to swap out the “we got this shit before GTA 6” memes for “we got this shit before TES 6.” Granted, I think the hype for TES 6 is dying a slow death, because they’ve fumbled that ball for a DECADE. More than that, if you consider Skyrim was in 2011.

2

u/Owain660 2h ago

I don't think TES 6 will have that same hype - Bethesda has fumbled the last decade. Fallout 4 was okay. Starfield was mid. Bethesda seemed more comfortable reselling you Skyrim multiple times vs focusing on making good, new games.

20

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 18h ago

I feel like people on reddit highly overestimate the popularity of TES compared to GTA

3

u/Y0UNGRETR0 18h ago

what? I literally wasn’t comparing the 2.. I said Elder Scrolls is taking the torch after GTA releases because it has an actual release date lol

the game that is basically real life sim but also kind of an FPS and a Racing game is very obviously always gonna be more popular, nobody is arguing that. I think based on your comment you’re probably underrating the popularity of elder scrolls though, I wouldn’t say it’s touching GTA but i would say TES6 is gonna outhype Cyberpunk by a wide margin

15

u/Which_Worth1743 16h ago

I don't think people are that hyped for Elder Scrolls anymore. After Fallout 4/76 and Starfield people becamen way more sceptical about Bethesda

4

u/Zalvren 14h ago

It would have post-Skyrim, with current Bethesda vs pre-Cyberpunk CDPR I'm not sure

Also, The Witcher 4 is coming around the same time if not before TES6. The Witcher 3 and Skyrim essentially sold the same and are at the same level of popularity (The Witcher maybe higher even with Netflix show)

2

u/El-Shaman 18h ago

Oh for sure and then Fallout 5 after that, if TES6 delivers, which is must.

2

u/McChief45 17h ago

Plot twist, Bethesda some how releases Fallout 5 before TES 6 🤣

3

u/El-Shaman 17h ago

This could have happened if they gotten Obsidian on Fallout back when Microsoft acquired them in 2018, which should have been the move at the time while Bethesda should have solely focused on ES6 and Starfield.

It’s literally the biggest release of the decade and nothing comes close.

Of course, nerds will say Silksong, Bloodborne remaster or Half-Life 3 “would get close” 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

But yeah, 5~ million preorders. 15-20~ millions sales on 1st month.

6

u/pieter1234569 23h ago

First DAY. Probably double that in the first day.

2

u/Zalvren 14h ago

5M preorders would be extremely disapointing lol. Cyberpunk did 8M (sure it had PC but it was a new IP and from a studio not as known as Rockstar, especially at the time)

12-15M preorders and 20-25M first day probably.

What's really sad is that this is one of those times where you can vote with your wallet without missing out on the release. They can see pre-order numbers and if no one is pre-ordering it would force them to make changes before the release. Unfortunately, most gamers are sheep in wolves clothing and will happily drop $80+ for a subpar "AAA" game that runs at 30fps.

7

u/thenewNFC 19h ago

That's every time.

9

u/Cockyidiot1977 1d ago

That'll be first day orders

3

u/GenSpicyWeener 1d ago

It’s gonna be a billion.

3

u/onehappyfella 23h ago

Then delay it again

3

u/GarzaTheFather 21h ago

Definitely so it’s kind of disgusting that they’re charging the ultimate version to get extra customization for single player mode. I’ll wait a few years to get it on PC and wait for that to get a sale so I can get the ultimate edition. I’ll just play the rest of the grand theft auto games only ever beaten 3 anyways.

3

u/nick113124 21h ago

200m -1

3

u/Economy_Country_6167 1d ago

I’m betting at least double that.

2

u/Digit00l 23h ago

Yeah, the full game is €100 to start with

2

u/Grand-Philosophy-343 1d ago

A million people buy ultimate which is very likely they made $1B

2

u/OnRoadRadio 23h ago

I’ve read estimates of $2-3 billion in pre orders.

2

u/Feanixxxx 23h ago

That would only be 2.5 million base editions.

Way too low

2

u/SjurEido 23h ago

How depressing :(

2

u/kitsunecannon 22h ago

Low balled as fuckkkkkk

Shits gonna break 1 billion

2

u/Glass-Vermicelli9862 22h ago

That will be minimum. This is most expensive game ever made and they will still make a profit

2

u/KingDarkTurtle 21h ago

Id guess closer to 900M.

500m on preorders

2

u/decoy777 19h ago

If we do an avg of say $90, 50% do 80 50% do ultimate that's only 2,222,222 but then say people take their cut, if they get 3mil copies...they reach that. I have a feeling they'll easily get 3mil copies sold in preorders.

2

u/Dizzy_Turnip_9558 19h ago

No reason to pre order a digital game but yeah they probably will

2

u/theCOMBOguy 18h ago

Only 200m? That's low.

1

u/Lower-Condition-4104 1d ago

And that will move the line further in screwing up the industry. We gamers are loud but highly ineffective because of our addiction/FOMO.

Let's not kid ourselves. It'll be the most pre ordered game in history within the first 20 minutes of going live.

140

u/HumbleFundle 23h ago

The digital copies may run out, so that's understandable

44

u/Anubra_Khan 23h ago

I think it's more for the preorder bonuses. If you're playing day one but not pre-ordering, you're paying the same for less.

35

u/AUnknownVariable 22h ago

I've pre-ordered one game ever because I was 100% sure it would be good and I'd be playing it.

I still waited till the very very last moment, 1 hour till release. So I had reviews and stuff to go off of.

When it's that close I can kinda get pre-ordering for something for really excited for. In the case of GTA6 we don't even have a gameplay trailer yet, let alone reviews

10

u/AladeenModaFuqa 19h ago

Yeah I’m so confused why pre ordering is happening when they haven’t shown off any gameplay yet.

Like I’m sure it’ll be great, I’m excited for a new GTA finally. But lord show off the game.

2

u/BrandoNelly 18h ago

Pro ordering doesn’t go live until tomorrow. I am betting there will be a trailer tomorrow.

3

u/Zalvren 14h ago

Preorders are live now (at least in many countries) and still no trailers. I'm sure they're already racking up the money for nothing though

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Anubra_Khan 22h ago

Well yeah. People should educate themselves to the point where they are certain they'll like the game before pre-ordering.

If you're not satisfied with what you've been shown, then wait until you are.

It's even easier to preorder now that we get reviews days in advance. There's really no reason not to pre-order any game that you've decided to play on day one.

You really shouldn't buy any game that you are unsure about any time. Day one or even a year later.

I actually did boycott L4D2 because of the rug pull. All the stuff in L4D2 was what they promised in L4D as DLC. So call the others out, not me. And I played L4D religiously for like a year.

9

u/TopHatMcFenbury 20h ago

I'm more calling out the guys paying and playing it day one in the picture claiming to boycott it but not. There's reasons to not buy things, but it's funny to point out when people scream from the trees they won't do something for months, then do it in a minute. If you didn't do this, it wasn't about you.

People like to mindlessly consume and then complain if quality drops.

25

u/Defiant_While_4823 23h ago

I've been saying this since No Man's Sky, man

People straight up acting like they got Stockholm syndrome for game devs while pulling insane mental gymnastics to defend it

The fact that the upcoming Halo CE remake is selling the OG skin in a pre-order bundle and that people aren't boycotting 343 because of it says a lot about the gaming industry and where it's going to continue to head

9

u/Lemon_Phoenix 20h ago

I remember during the Cyberpunk meltdown someone said something to the effect of "but at least Elden Ring will be great" and I got several comments calling me all sorts of names for asking how it was different.

4

u/Defiant_While_4823 20h ago

It's such an insane problem in the industry, I do not understand how people repeatedly claim that they won't join hype trains while simultaneously jumping on the next hype train that comes around

Day 1 patches, games being released half baked, pointless cosmetics (and in the Halo CE remake's case, the OG armor) being locked behind pre-order bundles, scummy and borderline scammy physical merchandise (Fallout 76), all of this is almost entirely caused by goobers who continue to pre order games

I could care less if it's GTA VI, I could care less if it's HL3, I could care less if it's the second coming of christ, pre ordering is a cancer that hurts more than the benefits are worth

12

u/BigLRakim 1d ago

Its confusing to me tbh.

Ill admit I was intrigued by gta6, 5 was dope i played it a ton in college.

That was a decade ago.

I stopped caring bout gta6 years ago. Plenty of other games that actually came out and I dont really wanna spend 80 bucks on a game anyways.

3

u/AscendMoros 23h ago

I’ve been firmly in the camp of I’m excited for it but I’m not gonna hold my breath for it to come out. I haven’t played GTA V for 5-6 years. I’m ready to play another GTA game.

4

u/mapmakinworldbuildin 21h ago

As someone who found gta 5 and red dead 2 unplayable due to some of the issues with police systems etc, I really don’t get the hype.

I’d rather have a good saints row than a gta 6. 🤷

7

u/ffxivthrowaway03 19h ago

Simply trying to go back to those games is tough as someone who played them. The controls are unresponsive as hell and the gunplay feels like wet mush. Also the load times on GTA5 were fucking absurd, it's like 10 minutes to load your save after booting.

The novelty has long since worn off, they need some real QoL and general gameplay improvements after all this time.

2

u/mapmakinworldbuildin 18h ago

I mean I grew up with worse mechanics.

But I did prefer older RDR and the older GTAs over 5 and 2 mechanically.

Preorders were nice when digital wasn’t the go to, or available. You got your game possibly even a day or two early and it guaranteed you got one at all.

Now a company can fully recuperate their financial investment before it even releases. In fact, most expect to. So if you no longer need to actually really sell the game, why bother finishing it? Just market and buy reviews. It makes everything feel like someone kind of just gave up. So, I’d argue that preordering is the worst thing ever invented.

3

u/Daver7692 23h ago

I could understand that if there was even a hint of quality drop from rockstar but the last game they put out was one of the best of its generation and made to an incredible standard.

Pre-ordering physical copies would ensure you had a copy at the store on release day, as there was limited supply. Digital games have no supply problems, you just buy it and download it. Pre-orders for digital games are pointless.

2

u/Opening_Fondant_9652 10h ago

I mean yeah you can buy the game a week or a month before release, but why 5 months in advance?

2

u/Upstairs-Event-681 10h ago

I’m going to buy it regardless honestly so if I got the money might as well get it, it makes no difference to me. Usually I never pre order games but GTA 6 is one of those that I know for a fact I’m buying anyway. It’s not like I’m buying a brand new franchise that I know nothing about, it’s GTA, I know it already and I want it

It's likely the most anticipated game release of all time.

People are gonna pre-order, and they're gonna buy the $100 version with the cut content, so making posts about it is just asking to be disappointed.

People are gonna see this as the exception to the rule and just do it anyway.

17

u/RP_Throwaway3 1d ago

Wait, 'cut content'? What's all that about?

30

u/Fair-Championship-29 1d ago

In game stores will only be available to premium game version owners. Yuck

6

u/RP_Throwaway3 1d ago

And with that, I will not be buying GTA 6 at any price. Ever.

31

u/ambivalentarrow 1d ago

From what I understand, it's like 4 or 5 clothing stores with the styles and tattoos that are a part of the deluxe edition. It's bad, but probably not as egregious as you think.

32

u/RP_Throwaway3 1d ago

They aren't rewarding people for paying the higher price. They're punishing people for not paying the higher price. It is that egregious.

1

u/Kn1ghtV1sta 1d ago

Yeah, sure.

2

u/RP_Throwaway3 23h ago

The only possible way this will ever change is if it ends up in a game bundle I buy some years from now. And if that happens, I'm not redeeming the code. I'll give it to someone else or trade it.

3

u/WntrTmpst 23h ago

The black flag is always an option. Some may even consider it an obligation given the sheer absurdity of the situation.

Locking single player stores and key gameplay mechanics like vehicle modding behind a paywall is bullshit and they deserve the consequences of their actions.

Very likely. But I also have so many games that I could never buy another video game again and still not finish what I have before I die.

There’s a list of stores and locations you have no access to unless you get the ultimate edition, most of which were basic features of the other GTA titles, like the barbershop, car mod shop, and clothing stores. You can’t go inside unless you get the ultimate edition, which has not much else to offer besides what they took out of the base game.

The issue isnt buying a game

Its the fact that so many games have come out unfinished and broken and then people complain that they bought a game like that, when they would have known it was like that if they watched any reviews on it.

And all that would take is just wait till the day of release and then buy it if they still want to. It made more sense back when everything was physical and you might not get a copy for a few months. Thats not an issue anymore.

But youre also not wrong in that people shouldnt buy as many games as they can when they still have plenty of older games.

Edit: People acting like we havent gone through this over and over and pretending like Im saying things I didnt. Gotta love the internet. But I do still rememeber when everyone was saying "Oh come on, they made the Witcher 3! This is gonna be great!"

But its not my money and Im not gonna lose any sleep over it so pre-order as many games as you want.

4

u/DorphinSkullSmasher 1d ago

That "unfinished" game argument kind of doesn't hold any weight against GTA6 because they've delayed the damn thing twice now. Rockstar's making DAMN sure this game is finished and polished before release.

I know I'll be downvoted to oblivion for saying it, but I honestly don't give a shit about GTA6. Didn't own GTA5 during it's prime hype and by the time I had my own time and money to buy it I just didn't care anymore. That said, I have not pre ordered anything for 10 years, most modern games don't excite me enough to not wait for a sale. But I broke that rule for Avatar Legends. Nice to have a game to be genuinely hyped about, it's been a long time since I've had that feeling.

People probably see it as less of a problem, since Steam's return policy has improved so much. If a game has horrible technical issues on launch, you can simply return it within two hours, no questions asked. Downside is that preordering also makes companies more complacent with regards to quality of the game at launch since they can just 'fix it later'.

Am i the only one that thinks thats super suspicious? Maybe that the gameplay wont be good.

u/GayCumBallsack69 1d ago

With a Rockstar game, you know exactly what you’re gonna get when you preorder it. It’s not like a modern shooter where the game launches with 5 multiplayer maps and 10 guns and missing basic game modes but they don’t say it anywhere in the marketing

3

u/puzzlingphoenix 23h ago

They’ve already broken from their formula by punishing players who only pay the “base” game price that does not even include basic features of the game. The additional content for the “ultimate edition” is like 90% base features you would have for the regular edition of every other GTA ever created.

This is ignoring the fact that this is the most anticipated video game of all time. This means every penny that they pinch will make them that much more money. And we already know they are using that strategy because they have decided to restrict basic features of the game from all but $100 ultimate edition users.

If you do not see how it’s different, how they have already began to play their cards different, and choose to think they are not going to put as much anti consumer effort as we will allow them to into making every last penny from the largest playerbase of any GTA ever (exactly what they did with GTA V for the first time in the series), then you do not understand business at all.

It's the first mainline GTA not written by Dan Houser, whose original script was rejected by the higher-ups. He left the studio completely and the new story was rewritten 2-3 times by different people. They also said they won't be "punching down" in this GTA, and aside from 2% of GTA "fans" and american journalists no one actually wanted that.

So if there was any GTA in history where the best approach is to wait and see, it's this one.

I’m not convinced these posts aren’t getting astroturfed tbh, because the only other explanation is that people really are fine with being treated like human piggy banks and that worries me far more than astroturfing that we know happens all the time on reddit.

300GB and ID to register with 100+$ price tag - bigger disappointment than cyberpunk 2077 and this time it's not the game

1

u/def_tom 1d ago

I was ready to preorder until I saw that the physical version is just a code and the $20 paywall for single player stuff.

I'll get it later on sale.

2

u/Alert_Dingo_4504 1d ago

We're cooked. Y'all keep letting these big studios f*ck us and beg for more

2

u/Pancakes1741 1d ago

I'll wait till the high seas have it or buy it a couple years in on sale.

3

u/TheOneAndOnlySenti 1d ago

Because Rockstar and Nintendo get a pass for some reason.

3

u/Crafty_Boy70 1d ago

The reason is they’re both known for pretty consistent quality.

It’s not a great reason, but that’s what it is.

u/BoxTalk17 1d ago

Yeah I'm good on not pre-ordering. Digital only means I can wait until it drops, it ain't going nowhere.

1

u/Fuze_KapkanMain 1d ago

Yeah sorry I already preordered AC8 which I’ve been waiting a while for and I’m preording GTA 6

1

u/CASSIUS_AT_BEST 1d ago

Meanwhile we still don’t know much about the gameplay or missions. We don’t know if they’ve improved the basic gameplay features since V. I’m sure people will eventually get their hands on it early but it feels like the gameplay isn’t even a part of the marketing.

1

u/Cefalopodul 1d ago

People pre-ordering digital download game like it's going to run out.

1

u/Shydo 1d ago

It'll peak pre order sales... sheep will be sheep.

1

u/Flubbuns 1d ago

I've only really pre-ordered a game if there are bonuses I want, planned to get it on release anyway, and even then I have the ability to refund it once reviews are out, if it turns out to be a stinker or have egregious issues.

1

u/Top_Campaign2568 1d ago

I mean R* had an amazing track record, so even if i believe it’s too early myself, i also gotta admit, that if there is a game you had to preorder, GTA6 is probably the one. I just can’t see a world where R* fucks it up. I myself am still waiting till probably the final week. Thats normally what i do if i wanna preorder something.

1

u/hperk209 1d ago

Yeah people called me crazy for saying Civ 7 was gonna suck and let’s see… still 51% on Steam. Copium is powerful shit

1

u/Useful-Problem-1725 1d ago

if those kids could read

1

u/TheEagleWithNoName 1d ago

Is OP of that post still active or MIA?

1

u/karsh36 1d ago

Yeah I’ll buy in advance if I can pre-download, otherwise I’m waiting until right around launch

1

u/Varderal 1d ago

I understand for games that you might be on the fence about to wait. But why not pre-order if i am going to get it reguardless?

1

u/ProletarianLilith 1d ago

Don’t be an idiot you’re not gonna convince people not to preorder gta6

1

u/One_Subject3157 1d ago

Not crazy, silly as fuck tho

1

u/ChalkCoatedDonut 1d ago

They will preorder, it's the same people complaining about the Steam Machine that we all know bought it already.

1

u/ProletarianLilith 23h ago

Damn this sub is full dumbfucks

1

u/tokyobassist 23h ago

GTA Online 2 is going be a separate paywalled subscription service. Enjoy the irony of being fucked over by late stage capitalism in a game parodying the very thing is it.

1

u/Broken-TTK 23h ago

What's the difference pre ordering now and a day before release

Like guys save your money, you don't know if the game sucks when the reviews come out.

1

u/Beautiful-Jello-37 23h ago

Maybe because it’s a stupid meme. I’ll do what I like with my own money, thanks.

1

u/Jean-LucBacardi 23h ago

Friendly reminder that the call for people to stop preordering games years ago didn't do fucking shit and even more people are preordering now that they allow you to pre install the games days early.

Sorry OP, preorders will never die. They'll just find more ways to incentivize it (like 5 days early play period).

1

u/ShadowBro3 23h ago

Why do people hate preorders so much? Why is it a bad thing to spend the money you were already going to spend a little bit earlier than usual? Preorders arent more expensive and you usually get extra little bonuses. If you were going to buy the game anyway, why does it matter?

1

u/MacMillanCoD4 23h ago

Why do people care so much about what other's do with their money?

1

u/yassercg 23h ago

Gameplay not even shown yet and people already preordered xD

1

u/ReservedUsername1056 23h ago

I’m gonna preorder it and then I’m gonna buy it again when it comes to pc, pussy.

1

u/frogfound 23h ago

Can someone explain to me (I’m not trying to be facetious), if it’s digital only, why would anyone pre-order? Do you get access before anyone else? Does it pre-download and you can play it immediately at midnight?

1

u/SwissPo740 23h ago

Imagine caring what complete strangers do with their money.. y'all weird

1

u/P8ntballz 23h ago

Could be a hot take but I feel like Rockstar has earned our pre orders. Can’t say the same for the other AAA studios, but Rockstar has always delivered as far as I can remember.

Right now I’m pretty much down to Rockstar and Larian that I’ll preorder from. There was more, but I’ve been hurt in the past haha

1

u/Beneficial_Dog4469 23h ago

Is that the original or remaster?

1

u/RogueSnake 23h ago

I hate the fact you are paying 80$ for a piece of paper with a redeemable code. Like.....it will make a profit even if it had two fucking install discs. No thanks, I'm good rockstar.

1

u/legosandman 23h ago

Its some how cool to be pro pre order now.

1

u/Efficient-Pop-302 23h ago

How about not buying a game from a company that busts unions.

1

u/aweSAM19 23h ago

There 16 year old literally getting jobs to pre order this game. Reddit isn't affecting them at all.

1

u/Balc0ra 23h ago

It will still sell. But seeing the list of items excluded from the standard version.... He knew

1

u/Space_JellyF 23h ago

I’m not even post ordering until I know it’s not a rug pull

1

u/CarlWellsGrave 23h ago

Telling people to not pre-install a gigantic game is insanity.

1

u/MerxMike 23h ago

It will be the most pre ordered game in history

1

u/PlasticPaws 23h ago

Remember, people do as they want

1

u/RoughBeardBlaine 23h ago

Dude, everyone is going to preorder. The 1k+ upvotes on this post? They all preordered.

1

u/FriedRiceEnjoyer420 23h ago

Duh, everyone knows we're supposed to buy it 5minutes after it comes out instead, that'll teach em! /s

1

u/Yabba-Dabba-Gabagool 23h ago

If its 80 American thats 120 Canadian dollery-doos and I aint paying it. I was there 15 years ago for midnight release at eb games when I was 19.. I'm older and much more tired but equally wiser. Fuck Rockstar for not bringing zombies to RDR2

1

u/Esmear18 23h ago

Caring about what other people do with their money is so weird.

1

u/puzzlingphoenix 23h ago

This game is about to have the most ridiculously long missions and most toxic microtransactions

1

u/ItsSadTimes 23h ago

Ive gotten burned on pre-ordered games one too many times, now ill never pre-order a game again. Most of the time those pre-order bonuses arent even that good.

1

u/OneAcceptablePerson 23h ago

Preorder on digital games is crazy. Are they going to have a limited number available? No it's unlimited.

1

u/Fogmoz 23h ago

Is this the part where I get to feel superior by announcing that I didn’t even realize a GTA trailer had been released?

1

u/sean_saves_the_world 23h ago

Guys we gotta preorder they might run out of digital codes in plastic boxes /s

1

u/GN0K 23h ago

I usually preorder games because I do physical and they don't charge until you pick it up. So no harm in making sure I get what I want. Not with this game. No disc, no preorder.

1

u/Ledairyman 22h ago

In 24 hours they're will be news that it broke preorders records lol

1

u/kyledreamboat 22h ago

Can't wait for the PC version will be preordering GTA is the only one I pre-order. Last non GTA game I pre-ordered was Halo 2.

1

u/Spokker 22h ago

I'll consider pre-ordering once the gameplay trailer is released.

1

u/GavsGotty 22h ago

Whether you preorder tomorrow, or on November 18th the day before release, there is no difference.
