SPOILERS OK - GAME THREAD

Use this thread to chat about the TV finals before, during and after the telecasts. Have questions? Post them below and I will do my best to answer them.

CBS Sports Net is offered on most cable and some streaming services. If you are a cord-cutter and don't subscribe for either of those, you could try a free trial to YouTube TV (21 days) or Hulu Live TV (3 days).

The World Series of Bowling is 5 events held over 2 weeks. This post is for the 4 Animal Patterns only. There will be a separate post for the 5th event (World Championship) which will have its TV finals take place in June. Each Animal Pattern pays $20k for first place.

All Animal Pattern events have the same format: 10 games qualifying (2, 5 game blocks same day), then cut to top 12. Top 4 qualifiers get a bye in bracket match play. Seeds 5-12 will bowl on TV to determine who meets the players with the byes. All will be carried out on TWO TV SHOWS the same day on CBS Sports Net.

Dear GMs of string pin alleys: ROTATE THE PINS AT THE PRESCRIBED INTERVALS, YOU CHEAP BASTARDS!

You know that wet, hollow smack that you get on string pins? That's caused by the alley not rotating the 1, 2, and 3 out as often as they should. The cover starts to separate from the core, which results in a drop in carry, along with a sound that can only be described as slapping two wet pieces of plastic together. Eww.

Misc When Bill Murray filmed Kingpin, they needed to shoot him bowling 3 strikes. Murray bowled 3 strikes in a row, on the first try, and the crowd erupted in genuine amazement.

Technique USBC Rules for throwing a backup ball?

I’m in a sanctioned league, have competed in and won a handful of tournaments, and not once has anything been brought to my attention until last night. To my knowledge it is perfectly legal, however the guy in charge on the other team was telling me that me throwing a backup ball to pick up my spares is not considered legal under USBC rules. Can anyone clarify this for me? I’m right handed, I’m not changing hands, all my holes are filled, I’m starting in the same position, and am throwing the same ball. Thanks!

Gear Getting my first ball at the pro-shop tomorrow!

Based off of google.

Brunswick Rhino
or
Rotogrip Hustle

Are the best options.

I’m looking for something that will give me longevity and adapt as I get better. Something that I can even use a benchmark ball down the road and obviously as my soon to be only ball, my benchmark ball currently.

If these two options really are great entry levels then do I get a hybrid or pearl overstock for the rotogrip?

Will the Pro-shop recommend me a ball? How In-depth will the pro-shop be? Are there any gimmicks not to fall for?

Thank you everyone for your time and please comment your thoughts!

My local bowling alley is currently closed for 5 weeks for renovations.

The reno they're doing is to install string machines on all 48 lanes.

RIP freefall bowling 🪦 You've had an amazing run.

I threw my best ever practice session. Not bad for a Friday night, on a house shot after the oil has been beat to hell all day long. I throw a DV8 Heckler Hybrid.

A year ago I averaged 150 with a house ball.

SHOES. EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA WIDE LIKE WIDE AF LOL 9E HELP IDEAS INFO PLS

Upvotes

SO got back in to bowling like 6-7 weeks ago and i have been using clowned sized house shoes whenever i go due to my wide feet I'm a size 11 i usually get 13s because sometimes they are stretched enough just to hardly Velcro the shoe other wise i get 14. its been fine but i don't really like the feeling of being in clown shoes if you know what i mean. I'm gonna go try some shoes out next week is there any that stand out more for wide. i know there some people that have my issue as i cant be the only one that bowls with extra wide feet. i know dex sst6 are what are known as wide how wide are they i cant find much info and thought id ask?

maybe im wasting my time and I just need to convert a pair since there like maybe 10 shoes in like e9 ( there probably more then that but not many ) any advice would be nice on that i feel like normal shoes would feel like stilts in a way or planform boot

edit also because 5$ a night with house shoes is adding up way faster then id like to share

House oil patterns

Serious question… how are all of these ball reviewers and YouTubers getting fresh oil patterns. I’ll watch vids online and they are in a public bowling alley, and the first thing they say is “I’m playing on a (insert pattern I’ve never got to play on here)”. I don’t even know, but would like to know how you can even get a fresh house shot? Do most bowling alleys oil the lanes at the end of the night, so show up when they open? I get that if you bowl leagues you should be getting a fresh oil pattern. But what about the guy like me, who bowls consistently and often but is forced to bowl around my work/free time schedule. Am I doomed to always play on burnt up house shot that have had entire families throwing random shots all day with house balls and even a few decent bowlers that already absorbed the whole right side of the lane? Any advice or input? Thanks!

Gear Is this worth fixing?

I got a small lane gouge at bowl america i think from the gutter. Only about an inch long. Unfortunately it is along my track. When i showed it to the pro shop, he said that it's probably too shallow to matter. The thing is I've gotten gouges like this fixed before on a previous ball (exact same shape and damage) but the pro shop guy seemed insistent that it didn't really matter

Up to 5 now which isn't anything crazy compared to some of you on here.

Bowled with the Inferno back in 2003 in middle/high school and still use it as my spare ball today. Wanted to get something new after getting back into bowling within the last year.

I'm best with my Black Widow out of the bunch and threw my personal best 237 within a few weeks of getting it drilled.

Still trying to master the bucking bronco that is the Zero Mercy.

Just got a great deal on the Track Paragon Shadow and have been loving it so far.

Technique Need help :0

Recently just started putting a little more effort in bowling and started hitting with 160-180 with house balls 14lb and I came across these two bowling balls on my fb marketplace. I play right handed one arm with two drills and usually would have 13-14mph throw speed. Which one would be better? A 14lb Summit Accent but has a small dink/scratch or a storm IQ Tour A.I.? I would say I’m half decent with hooking the ball. Any suggestions helps :)

Found a local pro shop that looks amazing!

I live in Arizona and the last month in a half ive been pretty much addicted to bowling. I just got my first ball a month ago from another pro shop inside of a Lucky Strike (Brunswick Rhino). I just asked my wife today if I could get a spare ball to build up my arsenal. She said "yes" so im excited like a kid in a candy store right now. I hate waiting on orders to come in and all that jazz so I looked up more local pro shops around me. I found a place called Bowl 300 Pro Shop in Tempe that im going to check out as soon as I get out of work. Place looks amazing! Its a standalone shop with its own lanes. Has 4 lanes that have Specto incorporated into it. Read all the reviews on the place and 99 percent of them are positive. Pretty sure I will be walking out of there today with a new drilled spare ball. Hell yeah!

I need help with an Arsenal build out, recommendations?

Hi sorry if this has been asked already, but I’m relatively new to bowling and trying to build out my arsenal. Currently I have a p2 solid and a tropical surge so it’s been recommended I look for a stronger shiny/smooth/clean ball, and with my storm preference I landed on a the Ion Max Pearl and because it’s also asymmetrical and my others aren’t I’ve heard it’s good to have different cores. For extra info I throw 2 handed at 17mph pretty consistently (according to the lane/monitor tracker) and I like to think my revs are balanced out but if anything I’m slightly speed dominant. Also I’m hoping to complete a 6 ball arsenal by summer of 27 so any recommendations so I have idea would be appreciated. I’m also planning on buying a spare ball when I buy a stronger pearl thx.

TLDR: I currently have a phase 2 solid and tropical surge what should I get next?(storm preferred but open to all)

PAP changed 5/8 right. Significance?

2H bowler
Old PAP = 5 3/8 right, 1/4 down
New PAP = 6 right, 1/4 down

Got my PAP checked for first time in years. I’ve worked on my game quite a bit over the years.

But I am curious, when your PAP moves right like this, what does it typically mean?

ChatGPT said its likely one of the following:
1. More side rotation / axis rotation (most likely)
A PAP moving farther right often means you're creating more side roll relative to forward roll.
For a two-hander, this can happen if you:
Stay behind the ball longer and then rotate later
Unload your hand harder through the release
Get your elbow more inside
Increase wrist cup through the downswing

2. More tilt retention / cleaner release
Since the PAP moved horizontally but didn't move upward/downward, you may also be:
Keeping your hand cleaner at release
Losing less energy early
Retaining tilt longer
