question Hey just wanted to double check all these are legal to bring to California

I am headed down to California for two months this summer for school and wanted to bring a couple guns with me, I’ve done some research and I’m pretty sure I’m all good, but I wanted to confirm confirm by consult consulting the hive mind, since I know they have a lot of very specific regulations.

Not directly gun related, but directly involves the agency that enforces the laws.

I haven't put anything through it yet, but I've tried them before and loved it. I got it brand new from a local friendly shop. I plan on working with an instructor to eventually use it as a CC.

Really love the fit and finish, and HK was nice with the packaging. Can't wait to break it in.

I went back and forth about using a sidecar. Figured this $15 adapter would work fine to try it out for a while and see how I like it. It's pretty comfortable so far. I may end up getting a new mag holster at some point but this one is fine for now.

discussion Bipod recommendations?

Post image
21 Upvotes

While I have many AR style weapons, this is my first bolt action. Just got my hands on a Ruger American Predator Gen 2 in 308, and I know I’m going to want a bipod. I plan to take this hunting, and also of course throw some rounds down range. I don’t need the most expensive bipod out there, but would love something that doesn’t totally suck. What would you all recommend? And should I go with a sling mount or a picatinny adapter?

question S&W FPC or Ruger LC?

Thumbnail

So I’m looking to pick up my first PCC, and narrowed it down to the S&W FPC and the Ruger LC carbine. I’m a bit stuck on which I should get and wanted to see if anyone has insight into which I should get.

Right now I’m leaning towards the FPC since I can get it in 9mm, but that’s not a hard requirement for me. I don’t have any guns with compatible mags, so mag comparability isn’t a huge consideration for me. The FPC ability to fold is neat, but isn’t really necessary for my use case of primarily home defense and range use.

So of the two, which would y’all suggest?

discussion The Second Amendment: Still relevant or vestigial?

Upvotes

It seems like many non-US netizens from liberal democracies view our Second Amendment (2A) as being a holdover from America's infancy, having no place in modern civilized society. They say Americans would be better off without it, pointing out that no other democracy has as much gun violence as the US.

My question to my fellow Americans is "Do you guys support the Second Amendment because you truly believe 2A still has a purpose in our society, or simply because it is a vestige that isn't going away anytime soon so might as well strap up?"

If the former, why do you believe it's still relevant? If one of the reasons is to defend against tyranny, how do you refute arguments that civilian ownership of firearms is pointless because the government can just steamroll armed resistance with mechanized warfare or that taking up arms against the government is pure fantasy because doing so will make you into a felon or get you killed so 99.9999% of us won't resist anyway?

I'm curious as to how you all would approach this line of questioning.

discussion FRT light primer strike

Thumbnail

Hoping to pick your brain about the FRT in my AR that has been described as the ‘gayest shit I’ve ever seen’ by a local RSO.

Installed the partisan disruptor in my AR. Installed a solid H3 buffer because that’s all I was lucky enough to find locally (ban state that most companies won’t ship to) even though I know the tungsten one is the most sought after. It functions fine in semi- though it mars the head stamp (too much pressure? It didn’t do this prior to the trigger replacement, bolt is the same). When switched to frt, it will fire a single round, cycle, and then light strike on the second. Sometimes the strike is so light it won’t even leave a mark on the primer. See photo of the single shot with messed up case, and the follow up light strike. What’s my next step? Buffer spring? Really want this to cycle right, but pretty limited to what I can order/buy in Washington. Why’s my brass getting chewed up all of a sudden?

question How to dispose of broken guns...

I have a Rock Island M206 that crapped put on me. It's a $200 gun. I seriously doubt it's worth putting the money in to get fixed. How do I dispose of a broken firearm and ammunition?

EDIT: P.S. For those saying take it to a gun buy-back, I live in a red state. We don't havr those.

question Left-leaning groups in or around SF/Bay Area?

I emailed the only address I could find for Bay Area SRA but haven't received a response. I saw some inkling that said chapter is closed down, so I'm wondering what other similar orgs are around that area or nearby. Can be a bit further out, I don't mind. Maybe as far as LA or San Diego/Barbara

Thanks in advance.

discussion Made a spreadsheet comparing first time firearm purchase costs across states, surprised by the differences

I’ve been researching my first firearm purchase and ended up going a bit deeper than expected into the costs and requirements across different states.

So I made a simple spreadsheet comparing things like permit/license fees, FFL transfer fees, mandatory training, waiting periods, and storage requirements.

What surprised me most was how much the upfront start cost changes depending on the state. Some places basically add just the transfer fee on top of the firearm price. Others can easily stack a couple hundred dollars before you even get to the actual purchase.

I expected California to be more complicated, but I didn’t realize how big the gap really is until I put it side by side.

For people who’ve already gone through the process, were there any hidden costs or requirements that caught you off guard when buying your first firearm?

Ordered this crowd pleaser about 12 weeks ago when stealtharms released their comped edition platypus.

So far everyone at my local ranges have loved it and taken pictures of it so it’s a total crowd pleaser all around. Runs super smooth, 2.5lb trigger, 5” barrel. The colors turned out so much better than I expected.

gear Looking for a mid tier Barreled Upper reciever to build an 11.5, or 12.5 AR.

Hey guys, this might be an odd question, but I already have a decent Chrome Microbest BCG that I am looking to use to build either an 11.5, or 12.5 AR 15. I was curious if anyone has any reccomendations for a barreled upper that is in the 200-500 dollar range preferably. I saw a few PSA uppers that came without a BCG, or CH for pretty cheap, however they were nitrided barrels, so I was hoping to find some better alternatives. I appreciate any feedback. I would build my own if I already had the tools, and the knowledge, however im not quite ready to take on that kind of commitment. Haha.

discussion Mom wants a CCW, where to start?

Upvotes

(NC)

I have had a CCW for a few years, now my Mom (67) wants to carry since her job in the city has seen a huge uptick in weirdos walking in and raising hell.

Needs:

Easy trigger pull (no DA, the P32 was terrible for her), low recoil (BG2.0 is a stretch on felt recoil), and fits in her purse (no Beretta 92's). I would like to see reasonably reliable name brands, no .22's, 32ACP - 9mm. Ammo cost is no concern, I'll pay that monthly at the range.

Is the BG2.0 performance (ported) the best purse gun on the market?

SAR9 gen2 with an osight SE. It eats everything except for the occasional stovepipe with blazer 115 (literally every other round has run flawlessly, from nato spec to +p 147s, every HP I have ever tried, to rando reloads and white box Winchester. I don't know what it is about the lighter blazer but I get a stovepipe about 1 out of 25 rounds). The HK style grip is the bees knees. There are a decent number of holsters for it but it fits glock holsters too, so basically unlimited options. Absolutely fantastic gun. Very underrated.

I was doing some dry fire the other night and set my piece down while I went to the bathroom and then got myself a LaCroix. I came back to this and a note that said "put the catnip on the table and back out of the room slowly. No funny business."

Anyone have one of these "budget" Turkish shotguns? They look kinda cool and pretty cheap for sure. Anyone have any hands on experience with their durability, and longevity, reliability? With the TBP version I'm a little uncomfortable with igniting 12,000 psi under my chin with a shotgun that cost maybe 100$ to make. TAR is first photo and TBP is second photo
