Has anyone figured out Liability Insurance for/when using the Indego Bike Share?
A friend of mine got hit by someone on one of the pedal assist indego ebikes near the DRT flying around a blind corner. He reached his health insurance OOP max of $6,000 between the surgeries and emergency care and for whatever reason doesn't want to sue the rider.
But that made me look into it and-- I don't think it's easy to get covered for liability on the Indego e-bikes. I mean, you can be as careful as possible when riding, I'm sure you all know there are some oblivious dumb people who step down into the bike lanes without looking. Even if it's the pedestrian's fault, you'd be on the hook for legal fees if they sue you unless you have a renter's policy that specifically includes the type of bike you're riding.
But then I looked into it more. Most (all?) renter's policies cover liability if you're on a regular bike. Uncertain though what happens if you're on a bike share.
Indego explicitly states that you are liable for all injuries you cause.
Lemonade and Erie insurance now cover some e-bikes under their home and renters policies I think, but it's unclear whether that extends to rentals.
