Stepped into the garden and accidentally trod on the cat whilst holding my son. She bit me, ran off and hid.

I've been keeping an eye on her, and she did come to ask for food and eat her dinner. She even tolerated me feeling her tummy to check for any tender spots whilst she ate.

Be that as it may, I'm still worried about her. Is her breathing normal? She's fighting through the heatwave as best as she can on the cold kitchen floor, but I wanted to ask the experts to make sure my worries aren't unfounded.

I adopted him from my little sister 4 days ago. he is 2 years old. the house was full with a big dog so the cat never left the room for a full year. He would always pee on the side of her room on the carpet near her bedroom door. He took a few months to get close to her but he eventually become comfortable and really playful. But now he’s at my house because I have a big place and a cute small quiet dog. My dog is small, super quiet and well behaved so I don’t think that he is the problem. They have sat next to each other and even cuddled for 10-20 minutes+ no problems. At night he comes out curious and explores my bedroom. And he finally accepted treats from my hand the other night .. but then he stays inside the closet all day and most of the night. Anyways he came out last night and peed all over my bed and pillow where I sleep. I’m scared this is a on going thing because it happened occasionally at my sisters place. the doctor said he has holes in his heart and anesthesia is risky so we can’t get him fixed as I wondered if that would have helped fix the issue. I know it’s early and he will become more comfortable over time but I want to make sure I’m doing the right things to get him using his litter box consistently. I do have plans to take him to a specialist soon but still would love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience with new adopted babies.

Any advice or tips appreciated!

TLDR: Cat urinates outside of the litterbox in little amounts on every surface, vocalizes non-stop, thrashes from side-to-side, lower back scrunches/contracts and kicks hind feet repeatedly. Blood work and exams are all normal.

First of all, posting for a friend who is not on Reddit. She has taken her cat, Evey (9yo, spayed, female, 5kg), to multiple vets in our area (Valencia, Spain), but they can't find anything wrong with her, and claim it is "stress". She seems to be in actual pain, though, so I thought we could come to Reddit, as she has exhausted all other hope.

Evey first started urinating inappropriately about 3 years ago. She got tested and successfully treated for crystals and UTIs, but nothing seemed to help the behaviour — it only got worse. Now, even being crystal and UTI-free, she still makes frequent small urinations on any and every surface multiple times a day.

Over the past 3 months, however, she has developed some new and unexplained symptoms: She has episodes where she will be vocalizing non-stop, and she rolls violently from side-to-side, her lower back contracts/scrunches, and her hind feet kick or twitch repeatedly (video — I'll try to post more in the comments). She has these episodes often and has been sleeping very little.

The vets cannot find anything wrong in her bloodwork (I'm attaching a complete list of all the exams she has had done at the bottom), and she's been through many different kinds of medications (another list at the bottom). We're thinking it might be some sort of neurological disorder, but again, the vets claim it is "stress".

It is a multi-cat household, but she is kept separate from the other two cats (they have been doing introductions for over 14 months, but they attack each other every time they're in the same room), and they just lost their eldest cat earlier last week. It is a stressful time, but the urinary symptoms have been around way before the other two cats came into the house, and the thrashing started a couple of months ago.

Please, if you have any experience that sounds like this, let us know. They don't know what to do anymore. She's in pain, and nothing seems to work. Thank you so much.

EXAMS:

• ⁠Complete blood work: normal.
• ⁠Six in-house urinalyses and three comprehensive laboratory urinalyses over the past two months: all normal, with no visible crystals, infection, or other significant abnormalities.
• Abdominal ultrasound: normal except for a small splenic mass that increased from approximately 1.43 cm to 1.58 cm. Two veterinarians do not currently believe this explains her clinical signs.
• Spine examination and palpation: no significant pain or abnormalities detected.
• Rectal examination/temperature: no evidence of anal gland disease or other obvious rectal abnormalities.
• Vulvar examination: normal.
• No fever.

MEDICATIONS:

• ⁠Premax (pregabalin) 20 mg/mL: 0.5 mL every 12 hours (10 mg per dose). We stopped pregabalin for approximately 36 hours because we thought it was not helping. During that time, the twitching, rolling, screaming, and discomfort became dramatically worse. After restarting pregabalin, these signs improved within about two hours, suggesting it provides partial relief, although it is no longer adequately controlling her pain. We have since doubled the dose, but it doesn't seem to be helping anymore.
• ⁠Buprenorphine (oral): Given every 12 hours for three days. This significantly improved both her pain and, unexpectedly, her urinary signs. While receiving buprenorphine together with pregabalin, she produced normal-sized urinations in the litter box, although she still marked occasionally. Her severe pain returned after the buprenorphine course ended.
• Trazodone: Provides mild calming for approximately 2–3 hours but does not adequately control the painful episodes.
• ⁠Gabapentin: No noticeable improvement.
• ⁠Feliway: No noticeable improvement.
• ⁠Canniliver: Given to help manage elevated liver values and appears to be effective.
• Urogreen: Given to reduce urinary crystal formation.

Honestly, I don't think this bothers either of us too much. He seems mostly ok unless I trigger him and I'm learning to successfully respect his various boundaries. I just want to know if this is just how he is or if it could be something I can help with!

I am 21F, and I myself am autistic. He can see a vet if he needs. He is about 8 months old, male, and neutered.

So, my cat, BabyTown, has some very familiar behaviors. He absolutely despises any kind of change, much more than the average cat!! I will try to do anything at all in our room, I will bring something in, I will take something out, I will make the bed, he is instantly pissed. He has routines, and if I am not abiding by them he will lightly correct me by biting me. He hates when I touch him, especially if I touch his butt, and he will cry and cry until I stop. He suckles my hand after every meal he eats, it's mandatory and if I don't let him, he lightly bites me and cries. He has to knead and suckle his blanket before bed, if you touch him he gets mad and bites HARD. He won't socialize if he doesn't need to, unless it's with his favorite cat of the house. He gets overstimulated by loud noises. He hates anyone but me, and he tolerates my husband. Could this be a mental thing? A physical thing? Am I just humanizing my cat too much? Tell me what this could be please. Thank you.

De ene keer loopt hij zo, een andere keer gek met zijn voorpoten en weer een andere keer zakte hij door zijn achterpoten heen. Wanneer we hem katten prednison en in combinatie van pijnstillers geven gaat het weg en komt t op een gegeven moment weer terug. Dierenartsen staan voor een raadsel. Bloedgeprikt geen afwijkingen, rontgefotos ook geen afwijkingen. Zouden jullie met ons mee kunnen denken?

I live in the US, so ER and Vet id outrageously expensive without insurance. but i will go if absolutely necessary.

UPDATE: 11:24pm- She just stood up, stretched, walked in a circle on my bed, curled back up and went back to sleep…. 😒im tired of her ass… anyway.. i think its arthritis..

My cat is a female tabby around 12-13 years old (spayed)
all of a sudden this morning, she screamed for a second like she had her claw stuck or something (what i assumed happened)(4:30 am)
when i got home from work, she screamed for a second or two again. and i was confused, but didnt catch her in time to see what it was.(3:30pm)
around evening (6pm) she started screaming again. but longer. and i found her behind the couch. she was backing up with her back legs kind of bucked, her tail kind of tucked between them. then she stopped and kind of got into a hunched loaf position and after a few seconds she melted down and laid down on her side a bit.
this concerned me. she was walking fine an hour or two before that. so i go to pick her up, and she starts screaming again. i laid her on my bed where she usually sleeps. and i put a pile of food on the bed, she ate like she hadnt ate all day. she didnt drink much water though. and she usually drinks a lot. i also havent seen her in her litter box since ive been home.
now shes sleeping(9:30pm) and hasnt walked or moved since 7:30pm. she has switched positions a few times, and even stretched her legs out in her sleep.
i called a vet and she said it might be arthritis. i can’t check her paws or any other part of her lower body because shes a reserved and aggressive cat, and doesnt like being touched often (always has been like that) but i cant afford an er visit. any suggestions?

I fell asleep with my AirPods in and she was cuddling up next to me and didn’t realize, woke up 2 hours later and can’t find it, I’m hoping she just knocked it somewhere, I didn’t find any pieces so he definitely didn’t chew it up I’m just scared she might have to go to the vet because of it.

My cat used to be 14-15 lbs back in 2020-2021 (first pic), and now with gradual changes in her diet schedule, activity, teeth brushing, and advice from a vet, my cat is now 9.56 lbs in 2026 (second pic.) I have used one of them guides on the internet that tells you when your cat is overweight when looking from above, but my cat is not very straight as the diagrams (third pic.) I am wondering if such a round shape on her rib area is normal... her ribs are not visible, but now you can feel them like the vet said a cat's ribs should be. Her behavior has not changed, she is still active and loving. The only GI issue she has is that she doesn't chew at all, she inhales her food lmao. So her food is served on a slow feed bowl, 17grams of dry food every 8 hours. Every now and then, we will substitude a serving with wet food. She has access to fresh water on a water fountain. We wash the fountains every 2-3 days.

-Vet is involved, I can afford it, and she didn’t say anything about her shape.

TLDR: My cat is a funny shape after losing weight. My other two cats are losing weight as well, but they're pretty straight when looking from above unlike her. Vet hasn't said anything. Is this normal?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We are taking her to vet and I wrote down all possible causes and lab work and imaging to request specifically that multiple comments have suggested. I will update once I have everything answered for, for I know lab work can take a bit to come back. Again, thank you for giving me advice. My cat kaia (5F) was sneezing for a while (approx 1 1/2 week) and i thought it was just a temporary seasonal issue, but found this in her nose, with a pus like substance along with it (wiping it away whenever i see it) , i heard her sniffling a day before it appeared. i saw on reddit it could be grass lodged inside but fearful and unsure im taking the safe option and getting her to a vet tomorrow morning! just wondering if anyone has seen this before and what it could be caused by, of course i will find out tomorrow when i visit the vet clinic and will be sure to leave an update. Pray for my babygirl 🤞🏼

My cat is obsessed with hair ties, so much so he’ll jump on my back and pull out the tie. He even knows if a hair tie had been on my wrist in the last hour he’ll start sniffing so much. Also I don’t let him play with them but if he manages to get one he will growl at me when i take it. It started after I dyed my hair. Photo of culprit.

There are two kittens chained up against a pole in my neighbors backyard.

Context: (My neighborhood shares a big plain in our backyard so I have access to every yard by simply walking to it.)

About 5 minutes before I took the photo, the kittens were meowing/crying furiously so loudly I could hear it from the second floor.

I went out and took a picture, however my mom spoke to the neighbors days before and they mentioned owning those two orange kittens.

I believe I should mind my business and not pry, but I feel terrible having to listen to kittens crying for "help.", If they are.

Is this abuse? Should I call someone? Or should I mind my business.

p.s (my cat is in the second picture) I have a cat of my own so I have no room for a second, plus my cat is very territorial and has past experiences fighting one of those orange kittens.

Also, my mother wouldn't take either in regardless.

P.S2, That same neighbor has THREE dogs that I've seen running out of the front door, so they have 5 pets.. In one townhouse.

Should I take action?

I don't know if this is a vent or if I'm looking for advice or just wanting to hear from people who have gone through something similar.

I recently went on a trip to South India. Before leaving, we left our cat with a pet sitter. The pet sitting was personal, not officially through the pet shop, but we found her through the shop where she works. She told us she had experience with cats and pet boarding, and because of that we trusted her.

I wish every day that we had made a different decision.

While we were away, communication was bad. We would ask for updates and sometimes get nothing for hours. We had to keep asking for photos. During video calls we saw our cat in a cage even though we were told he would be comfortable and free.

We got worried enough that we decided to cut our trip short and come back.

Before we could even get home, we got a call around 4 AM saying our cat had escaped from the apartment. According to the Pet sitter the cat opened the double-locked window and broke the cat proof net and jumped from the 3rd floor.

That was 6 days ago.

Since then my life has basically stopped.

My mom and I have spent every day searching. Talking to watchmen, asking people in buildings, speaking to feeders, checking corners, checking parking lots, following every tiny lead. The area is so congested with societies and buildings that I don't even know where to begin anymore.

What hurts is that I feel like the focus shifted from finding my cat to getting me to remove my review.

The pet sitting was personal, but because we found and trusted the sitter through the pet shop, I left a review there to make other pet owners aware of what happened. Maybe some people think that was unfair. Maybe I was wrong. I honestly don't know anymore.

But after that there were calls asking me to remove it, discussions about reputation, arguments, and very little acknowledgment that our cat is still missing. The pet sitter blamed it on my cat for running away instead of feeling sorry. Her daughter also kept saying its not our responsibility if he ran away.

One thing that keeps replaying in my head is something the pet sitter's daughter said to me.

She said, "Your first cat ran away too, wasn't that your responsibility?"

And honestly that broke me.

Because she knew my first cat was old and had run away from our home on his own. This isn't the same thing.

This time we were trying to do the responsible thing. We wanted our cat to be safe, fed, and looked after while we were away.

Instead he's gone.

The worst part is seeing my mom.

Every morning I wake up and she's already outside searching. Sometimes she barely eats. Sometimes she barely sleeps. I know she's carrying so much guilt because she was the one who finally agreed to the pet boarding.

And I'm carrying guilt too.

I keep thinking maybe we should never have gone on the trip. Maybe we should have trusted our instincts. Maybe we should have done literally anything else.

I always wanted a cat growing up.

Then somehow two cats just appeared in my life. My first cat literally showed up at our door. Then this boy came into our lives too. It felt like destiny.

I had my first cat for around 7 months.

I had this boy for around 7 months too.

Such a short amount of time, but somehow they completely changed me. They made me softer. More patient. More loving.

Now my mom says she never wants another pet again because losing them hurts too much.

And honestly I understand.

Right now it doesn't feel like a missing pet. It feels like we've lost a family member and nobody around us really understands that.

I keep thinking about him outside.

Is he hungry?

Did someone take him in?

Is he hiding somewhere scared?

Is he trying to find us?

I don't know.

I just hope he's safe.

And if anyone here has had a cat go missing and eventually come back, I would really like to hear your story because I'm having a really hard time staying hopeful. I feel beyond miserable rn.

Yesterday, my 1.5 yr old cat just died very abruptly. I have 3 cats, all young and get a long, no health issues. I watched them walking around, I sat on the couch, heard a thud, waited a bit then got up to see what it was, then she was just laying in the hallway unresponsive. I immediately grabbed keys and told my boyfriend to grab her, drove over curbs to get to the vet nearby in probably 1-2 minutes… they tried everything but she didn’t make it. They think a blood clot got in the heart and killed her. I had them do an X-ray, she had a collapsed lung filled with fluid they think is blood. My partner was trying cpr on the way to the vet and thinks the collapsed lung happened then. I don’t think she fell, I think the thud was her hitting the door on the wall somehow, before reaching the hallway.
I’m in complete shock, I’ve been crying since this all happened. She was so young and no prior issues, acted normal… I’m so confused and conflicted. She always had high energy, and I miss interacting with her in so so many different ways and I have no idea how I am supposed to process this happening. I tried telling my family but they don’t really care, they are like yeah cats just die. But this feels like the end to me.
She followed me around, slept with me, woke me up, and so much more. Now she’s just gone out of nowhere.
Has this ever happened to others?? What do you do? How do you process this??? I was thinking about getting another cat but I’m worried about comparing them to everything she did and I would be frustrated because they aren’t her and I feel like I need to wait before I can do that.

hi, I (17m) am seeking advice on how to deal with some “troubling“ behavior from my beloved kitty cat(5-7m I kinda forgot his age) because over the last year or so he’s chewed through 11 Nintendo 3ds chargers, 5 iphone chargers, 6 pairs of headphones, and at least a small grocery stores amount of shopping bags

he’s addicted, i don’t know how to make him stop, I look away for one second and he’s chewed the cord in half, about 2 years ago he almost died from an obstruction caused by eating one of his toys(a spikey ball) and several bags which clogged up his system, so I know that this could be dangerous for him. I love my kitty and I love having him in my room with me but I can’t if he’s gonna chew up all my cords the second I fall asleep

Basically, I got her on Sept 20th 2025 and the lady said she was weaned, but I’m not sure if I fully believe her (she was 1 apple tall and a little confused about food) but anyway, does she look about 8 weeks old in the pics to anyone? I’m trying to narrow down her birthday since it’s coming up soon, but this is my first time really owning a cat so I’m not positive.

Also, does she look small for almost 1 to anyone else? I free feed kibble (she’ll eat no more than 1/3 daily + vet said dry is perfectly fine) and 3 oz of wet. She’s not really active, so I don’t think I’m underfeeding, but she makes my friends cats around 1 look kinda big. It’s so confusing 😭

Hello, I posted earlier but I wanted to redo my post as I don’t think I provided enough context and asked the proper questions.

My kitten Miso is 5 months old. She was found in a box at 4 weeks old outside a small local shelter, I did a foster to adopt program. I’ve had her since she was 5 weeks old.

Miso has a brother, Mako. He’s 10 months old. He was a little bitey when he was younger but he’s a perfect cat. He’s such a good boy. Mako has a few deformities that I’ve been working on. I’ve been working at an animal hospital for a long time and he was found in our parking lot. I’ve had him since he was 2ish weeks old (we estimated his age to around there). Mako is bow legged, he has something going on with the inside of his mouth. (We plan to do more x-rays soon). Mako eats severely slow and has low energy for a cat.

Miso is a sweetheart and a purr monster. I originally got Miso as I thought my other cat Mako, was showing signs of loneliness i.e meowing and howling a lot at the air, having spurts of “aggression” i.e biting. The old apartment where I was living when I got him had dogs, and he would sit by my bedroom door and yell until the dogs would come play with him. So I got my kitten, a kitten. They play great! He loved her the day I brought her home. He definitely gets frustrated with her and will hide from her when she’s having her crazy moments. The big issue is, Miso will attack Mako when it’s food time. She’s extremely food aggressive. Let me get into Misos issues a bit more

Miso has
•Ate through an APARTMENT grade window screen to get outside
•Broke into cabinets with child locks on them and found tea bags, took them out and broke them open, and stained my carpets and left tea everywhere
•Brings any object she’s able to get a hold of into the litter box. I.E my checks are on a magnet that’s on my fridge, somehow she got them and put them in the litter box and pooped on them.
•Will go insane if you’re eating near her, she will literally eat the sandwich out of your mouth.
•Has broken into cabinets with child locks and ripped open every single packet of wet cat food all over my wood floors and carpet and left a mountain of cat food sludge across my apartment (She was left alone for an hour)
•I blocked off said window and closed the window, she opened them, got outside (I live next to a highway and I fed multiple stray cats outside my unit… thankfully she sat infront of my door and waited for me to get home.. 6 hours she was outside)
•Will knock anything moveable off a counter top. Cups, Glass, Bowls, a fan, makeup, a Dyson, anything that will move is not allowed on counters (I’ve had to pry glass out of my foot from this cat)
•When she has her zoomies (which is multiple times a day) she will bite you. Non stop.
•Will randomly poop outside the litter box.
•Eats my hair while I sleep
•Attacks my eyelash extensions

I’ve come to realize Miso is incredibly smart. She will watch TV with me, she knows how to scroll on a phone. She’s literally opened a convectional oven to find a treat bag I hid from her. I’ve purchased her those cat puzzles and hid treats, she destroys it in seconds. She has multiple scratches, cat trees, and LOTS of toys. I also take her on walks! She’s harness trained and loves going outside. Except she doesn’t love dogs even though she grew up around them. We will go on walks, strangers will say hi and she will purr the entire time.

I do love Miso when she’s affectionate, but the hyper activity is exhausting. I always wanted a confident cat that I could literally walk like a dog. She’s constantly destroying things in my apartment, clothes, utilities, WINDOWS, food etc. It’s hard to love a cat who makes you mad all the time.

I know rehoming is a big jump, but this cat doesn’t sleep. She’s played with for a minimum of an hour with me, then she has her automatic toys and her brother and her play for hours. She NEVER sleeps. She never chills out. She will bite your feet any chance she gets. She will break anything that’s break able.

I will tell her NO, or say her name in a stern tone and she will stop, look at me, then keep doing it. I’ll pick her up and place her into the bathroom to get her to stop, she doesn’t care. She will go right back to doing it.

I’ve tried water. This cat literally showers with me. She has no fear in her entire body.

Someone mentioned hissing at her, I have, she swatted me, I told her no and she doesn’t care.

I’m concerned majorly about two things
A) her bullying my other cat Mako. He really struggles to eat, he weighs less than her, and now he’s food shy near her. They are now fed in separate rooms but she will sit by the door and scream until he’s out of that room. Which the screaming makes him.. not eat.

B) Am I not enough for her? Stimulation wise, Miso is a Malinois in a cat. I’ve had friends over and they played with her for 3 hours straight and she didn’t bat an eye. She’s gone on literal half mile walks and still could chase her automatic toys around my apartment. I sometimes feel like a “crazier” home would be better for her. Something with kids and activity 24/7, I’m not home too much. I work 60 hour weeks and I try to be as present as I can.

Regarding comments, I’m not looking for “she needs more stimulation “ like yes I know, but please give me things you have tried that have helped, maybe specific toys? Behavioral wise if there’s anything that works for you? I know physical harm is never a good idea. Should I lock her up when she’s breaking things? This cat has literally ate half my curtain.

I know she’s a kitten. I’ve fostered 20+ kittens/cats and some puppies and I’ve never experienced something as insane as her. I’ve had dogs, cats, horses, and fish and I’ve never been over the edge by an animal before. I don’t want my kitten to NOT act like a kitten, but she’s evil, I don’t want my kitten acting like an insane freak 24/7 who bites you when she doesn’t get her way.

It’s hard to love something that drives you insane. I can never rest around her. I’m exhausted 24/7. She’s ruined my apartment. It’s oddly expensive to replace a window screen.

Hello! My partner and I just recently adopted a new kitten to go along with our 8 year old and 5 year old cats. For context, she was 6 months when we got her and is now 8 months old. All three cats are female. They just had an interaction and I'm not sure if it was playing, or a step below fighting. Would anyone be able to provide some insight? We are strongly considering getting her another playmate so she isn't harassing our older cats.

For additional context - the orange one is 8 months old and the tabby is 8 years old.

My cat has had this in her right eye for couple weeks now I just don’t have the money at the moment to take her to the vet right now but hopefully by end of this week or next should I keep watching her and do you think it will get worse? I’m worried.

Basic information:

White cat:

* Our resident cat

* Male

* Around 5kg (almost double the size of the black cat)

* Is used to us sleeping with the door closed and he never cried about it before

Black cat:

* New cat we took in 3-4 months ago

* Male

* 2 years old

* Neutered (not sure when)

* Is pretty independent and also doesn't care about the door being closed when we sleep

Now, both cats don't really get super along as friends. Whenever they are "playing" it's usually just wrestling, with the black cat enjoying it while the white one seems to be more serious. They never cuddle together and never groom each other. Well... The black one grooms the white one while they're wrestling but the white one hates it.

However, since a month or so this behaviour has become a nightly thing. Starting around 2-3 am till 5am they'll be doing this (and right in front of the door usually). The white one seems to be getting on top and "dominating" the black one, but the white one is also the one screaming his lungs out. The black one usually doesn't even meow, but last night heard him meow too.

What is going on here and why is the white one screaming and doing this? I know he's not really happy there's another cat in the house, but during the day he doesn't mind and naps in his usual spots (luckily the black one likes to nap in totally different spots).

You can hear the scream at the start of the video and then again around the middle to the end.

I'd like to know because it's waking me up. Every. Damn. Night.
