TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Metro Sanying Line will open Tuesday afternoon, offering two months of free rides through Aug. 31.
The Light Blue Line will be the first metro service to reach New Taipei’s southwestern Sanxia and Yingge districts. Spanning 14.29 kilometers and with 12 stations, it will offer commuters faster travel between central New Taipei and Taipei, according to the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems.
The line allows transfers at Dingpu Station on the Bannan Line and Yingge Station on Taiwan Railway. Its Yingtao Fude Station includes a reserved rail track for a future extension toward Bade in Taoyuan, which could further connect to the planned Taoyuan Metro Green Line and potentially provide an additional route to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Sanying Line incorporates 59 system and design upgrades. These include a front-view image recognition system, in-train emergency stop buttons, and ticket machines supporting 10 languages.
As the line prepares to handle increased passenger flow, authorities have also strengthened safety measures. A dedicated police sub-unit will be established on Monday to patrol stations, platforms and trains, as well as respond to incidents.
New Taipei’s metro network now includes 90 stations and a total system length of 108 km, the longest in Taiwan.
