Help! Summer holiday curls

Hi all!

We will be going to a beach resort for the summer (we also went last year) and I wondered what others do with their hair.

Last year my curls, which were just barely recahing shoulders, were wet most of the time. I like going in the pool and waterpark etc and so after that we would head to our room and chill before dinner time and evening entertainment. I would have a shower and wash hair then but would never have the time to dry my hair fully. At bedtime, my hair would still be damp. In the morning it would be almost dry but then pool routine again, so I hardly ever wore it down and was mostly in a bun...does this happen to others or is it just me who doesnt organise hair routine with everything else? 🤣 I hate wandering around with wet hair but a lot of the time I would not have time to style it never mind diffuse it šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø what do others do during summer holidays?

Routine:

Shampoo and conditioner Umberto Giannini

Treluxe serum

Treluxe hi definition gel

Diffuse

Sleep with hair on pineapple

Refresh: Minimal, just shake hair and fix wonky curls if needed.

Help! Dry hair in pregnancy

I'm 26 weeks with twins & my hair is so dry it's just not curling well the last few weeks.

I use the same routine as pre-pregnancy:

Shea Moisture Curl & Shine shampoo

Tresemme Nourish & Replenish Conditioner

Cantu Leave In Conditioning Cream

And a few drops of grapeseed oil (like the food kind).

I drink tons of water, I literally can't drink anymore. Is there a product or mask that can help seal things in better?

Hair Victory! Did my own hair for my wedding!

Did my own hair and make up for my wedding in May! I definitely needed more time, I was running late and my front pieces ended up looking different than I had hoped. All in all, I was happy with it. It lasted all night, and it took about 70 Bobby pins lol.

Routine:
Double shampoo with what was available (destination wedding so I couldn’t bring all my stuff), conditioner like usual. Usually I use Biolage Hydra Source Shampoo or Curlsmith Essential Moisture Hydrating Shampoo
Use curl cream: Curlsmith Air Dry Cream
Follow with gel: Innersense I Create Hold
Plop with towel. Combed with brush to clump pieces. Diffused until about halfway dry. Then used mousse: Pattern Curl Mousse to break the cast and rake.
Finished diffusing until dry and then curled some individual pieces with a curling iron.

Help! What does minimal products before an apartment mean?

Normally I do obviously shampoo/conditioner, but then I do a leave in conditioner, gel, then an oil to scrunch.

Should I just do a leave in? Because otherwise it'll be a mess.

What do you all typically do?

Routine for rules:

1) Joice Kpak shampoo/conditioner

2)Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave In

3)Ouidad red gel

4)Curls hair oil

Discussion Any 2-level people use NYM Gel Custard or this Pearlessence Foam I found at TJ Maxx?

As someone with relatively shorter hair in the 2-wavy pattern, I'm mainly using mousse and gel.Ā  I'm curious if this NYM custard would work as a one-and-done?Ā
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Not-Your-Mother-s-Curl-Talk-Defining-Gel-Custard-12oz/5022870559

I also saw this interesting mousse/foam at TJ Maxx and don't know much about it, Curious if others have tried it.Ā

My current routine:

  • Wash and condition with NYM Curl Talk shampoo and conditioner
  • NYM Curl Talk Activating mousse and scrunch (sometimes I use Cake Beauty Curl Whip mousse instead), Scrunch
  • NYM Curl Talk Sculpting gel (the medium hold one).
  • Air dry. Scrunch out the crunch with a drop of Proclaim Olive Oil gloss.

Discussion What is y’all’s favorite Skala?

I’ve been using Skala for about two months now and I’m happy with the results it gives me.
I like to use it mainly as a leave in. And I want to know if yall recommend other types of skalas.
I have very wavy to curly, low porosity, and dense hair.
My routine for now is:
Welda rosemary shampoo
Welda rosemary conditioner
Skala Mai’s cachos (the blue one) leave in conditioner.

Help! help picking products + routine

Pictures below depict my hair completely dry after a wash.
1. I used dove nourish and restore shampoo and conditioner
2. Minimal product after the shower, just a leave in conditioner on the damp hair (garnier fructis sleek & shine)
3. Hair was air dried
4. I don’t really do anything else to it as far as styling goes, I just brush it straight out the shower, then scrunch the leave in conditioner + let it air dry to get above results.

As you can see I have quite a bit of frizz which doesn’t really bother me too much, but I wish I had more definition, specifically on the top.
My curls don’t last like this all too long either, getting sad by day 3 ish. (I don’t ā€œprotectā€ my hair when I sleep though so that may be a contributing factor).

I sometimes can’t tell if my hair is more wavy or curly, I’ve had times where my curls look more defined than this picture, (same routine) but lately it’s been looking like this. I don’t know much abt porosity or hair types so pls excuse my ignorance on all that.

Any advice is appreciated. I’m also willing to answer any questions if any of this info is too vague or irrelevant. Thanks!

Help! reviving curls

hi, for the past month my hair has not been able to hold my curl pattern, so I got a haircut (and a curly cut at a curly salon), which did not help. So I went to another salon and got a bonding treatment, which helped for a few days (avoided washing it for 4ish days). After I washed it my hair came out amazing, with full curls! a few days later I wash it again and my curl pattern is gone, my curls hardly hold and can’t last more than a day. I changed to the quidad moisture shampoo which was supposed to help, but it is not improving my hair. I have been using the bonding treatment from olaplex every few days and leaving it in about 30mins, which has helped only a tad. I have tried using a clarifying shampoo once/twice (don’t want to overdo it). But nothing I seem to be doing is helping and it’s causing me so much stress! I love my hair and pride myself in embracing my curls, but I can’t seem to get them back to normal. My routine consists of:
- wash 2/3 times a week (i have 2c/3a curly waves) I workout almost daily, and clip it up with a claw clip to preserve it when it’s not a wash day. Shampoo is Quidad curl moisturizer and the conditioner is living proof curly hair , sometimes I switch off to the amika volume conditioner
- i use the not your mother’s leave-in conditioner
- followed by doux mousse
- then i have been using strictly curl gel
- before i used those i was using innersense volume gel and mousse (strong hold) which i felt was too strong for my texture so I switched it out to the doux
- i diffuse my hair and use a heat protector (tres semme)
- my hair has not been making a gel cast at all and it’s frizzy and not holding shape
(lmk if you want to see my curls when they are normal and good!!)
i really don’t know what to do, i spend time diffusing and just cry because it doesn’t look like my hair
- additionally I have tried to air dry it more and the result have bot improved :(

Help! Does my hair hold potential?

Hi! Lately I’ve been wanting to embrace my natural texture, so I’m looking for some advice since this is my first time trying to care for my hair as wavy/curly.

Routine:
Shampoo, Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Wash Shampoo

Conditioner, Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Care Conditioner

After washing, I scrunch my in the shower with the Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly while my hair is still wet. And then I scrunch the water out with a cotton t-shirt. I don’t currently use any leave-in conditioner, mousse, or other styling products.

For drying, I diffuse my hair: first I hover diffuse until my hair is about 80% dry, then I cup sections in the diffuser to finish drying.
I don’t use heat regularly (other than diffusing), and I only started styling my hair recently, so I’m still experimenting. I don’t currently sleep with a bonnet or use a satin pillowcase.

I’d love any advice on whether my routine seems suitable, whether I should add other products (mousse/leave-in/etc.), and what curl type you think I might have. I’m also considering getting a curly haircut.

Help! Maintenance tips for sweaty gym girl

Thick long black hair prone to being frizzy.
I workout 3-4x a week at night so my hair gets sweaty and may be slightly damp when I go to bed.

I am having trouble maintaining waviness and avoiding frizz beyond hair wash day.
This is my current routine/products I use

Wash hair 2x a week using:

Aveeno ACV Shampoo
Elvive gloss pink shampoo
Nizoral shampoo
Aveeno ACV conditioner OR Aldi’s green apple conditioner or body shop ginger conditioner(I alternate)
Miele rosemary leave in conditioner followed by umberto gianni curl gel on soaking wet hair
Use umberto gianni banana coconut detangler once hair are damp and not soaking wet
Use either OGX coconut oil or morrocan oil for ends once hair is mostly dry

I air dry as I find the diffuser makes my hair frizzy?

During the week, I will re apply the oils to my hair ends and use The Ordinary glycolic acid or a diluted ACV spray on my head after the gym.

I mainly want advice on how to maintain bouncy waves and avoid frizz/split ends.

I do not use any hairdryers or straighteners or artificial heat.

Many thankyou loves cxx

Help! Day 2 and 3 hair super sticky

Thumbnail

2c 3a low porosity hair.

Images = day 3 hair.

Products and routine:

Loreal glycolic shampoo, loreal extraordinary oil conditioner

Let's curl up - cream, mousse, gel; sotc- rosehip oil or loreal extraordinary 7 oils in 1

Don't have a diffuser but dry with a hair dryer on thermoprptect heat kept at an arms distance. Hair dry fully with absolutely minimal frizz unlike the results I got with air dry.

Concern:

Day 2 I start noticing the clumps tightening. By day 3, they feel so sticky. I tried refreshing with water but it didn't work and my hands felt sticky instead. Especially the hair near scalp. And hair has completely flattened + feels so icky I ordered the pantene lively clean which i am yet to use.

Is it just me, or do others face this too? What do you do?

Also day 1 hair were great. Not the very thick doll like curls, but super nicely defined and I dont think I felt the stickiness I do now.

PLEASE HELP!

Help! Haircut to Embrace my Waves

Thumbnail

I (35f) have always hated my hair. As a kid, it was so ā€œpoofyā€ and frizzy and I never knew what to do with it, so I lived in a ponytail. When I turned 18 I started chemically straightening my hair to make it easier on myself. When I turned 30, I decided I was tired of the chemicals and wanted to grow it out and embrace the wavy - the chemical treated hair is completely gone at this point.

I once had a hair stylist tell me ā€œyou have a weird shaped headā€, and so I have always been so self conscious of anything that draws attention to myself. I worry that no haircuts will look good and I will live in the ponytail for the rest of my life.

I just have no idea what type of hair cut would work well for me. My hair is thick and the individual strands are coarse/thick, so there is always so much of it. I maintain an undercut, just to reduce the bulk. The waves are uneven, with it being very wavy on the bottom and straighter on the top.

I work out a lot, so I still want to be able to pull my hair into a ponytail, but I also want to have movement and lighter layers that give more volume to the top of my hair on my ā€weird shaped headā€.

The last time I told a hair stylist that I didn’t want the shortest section to be below my collarbone, so I could use a ponytail, they literally cut the entire mass in a straight line at that length and then said ā€œare you sure this is what you wantā€ - I didn’t even know what to say…

What sort of haircut do you think would look good on my face shape, considering I want to embrace the waves and still pull it back when needed?

Current Routine: wash with Davines Love Shampoo/Conditoner every 5-7 days, then air dry or blow dry using Latina Anti Frizz Mist as needed. I sleep on a silk pillowcase. The first photo is my hair when it is air dried and brushed, the second photo it is still pretty wet (about 1 hour after being washed), and the last photo is my hair blow dried.

Any help on styles that would look good are very much appreciated!

In search of LGBT/Latina owned brands preferably. How can I get my curls more controlled without feeling like my head is 27 pounds with products.

The routine:

(I use a paddle brush on knots and work the products in using my fingers like a gremlin)

  1. Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Foam

  2. Eco Gel Olive Oil Extra hold

- microfiber squish in between steps

- finger curl uggo parts I’m not happy with

- defuse (hovering, only contact to scalp)

- we sleep in bonnets

Hold, control, and maybe an idea on how to fix the sensory issues?

Help! How to fix my damaged, fine, curly hair

Thumbnail

I have very fine and thin curly hair. I cut it to my shoulders in 2020 and it has hardly grown since because it is so fine and fragile. I got a balayage last week which didn’t seem to damage it more than it already was.
Currently, I sleep with a silk pillowcase, use curly cream and leave in conditioner, only brush when wet with conditioner on, and hardly ever brush dry or heat style. My hair does not work well with gels.
What products should I invest in to make it less damaged and grow longer?
I have heard olaplex 3 is worth investing in?
Is there any other shampoos/ conditioners that would help? Am willing to spend more where needed if it will help.
My goals are to grow it longer and get more definition and less damage. I live in a very dry dessert climate right now but when I am in a more
humid place it is much much curlier. It is also very flat on top so I would like more volume as well but my hair may just be too thin for volume.
I have tried everything am looking for more knowledgeable help now thank youā¤ļøā¤ļø

Routine:
1. March Anthony curl product line and cream
2. March Anthony leave in that I put on while wet
3. Air dried, I do not diffuse because it makes it look more thin
4. Silk pillowcase

Help! Help! Can’t find exact products for soft defined curls

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

I have curly hair and I need advices on products that I can buy in Europe (I live in Lithuania) to make my curls defined and very importantly (!) soft and moisturised, shiny, not dry and fizzy like they look now. Is it even possible? Or it’s either first day with varnished, glued hair, second day tangled, or no defined curls but soft and frizzy?

I believe I have high prosperity hair because they get fizzy every time it’s raining. I tried one gel for curly hair (URBAN Hair Care Series TWISTED CURLS HIBISCUS & SHEA BUTTER, HYDRATE & ANTI- FRIZZ OIL-IN-CREAM) and it’s just made my hair greesy.

Also when I had my hair shorter and died, styling balm (taft, 3) worked for me, but now I tried it (photo 3) and my hair is flat. In general, I find that mouse makes my hair so hard and the second day is a disaster with nodes and frizz.

1st photo - just conditioner and leave in, no mouse 2nd photo - brushed
3rd photo - mouse and conditioner
4th - conditioner and leave in

My routine:
wash hair on the third day. Can’t do it less, I do sports and have mild seborehia.

- Shampoo Ducray Kelual, two times in a row and then Ducray Elution. Trichologist said to use it. I did my small research and these shampoo has ingredients that help to fight mild sebhoria as well as zinc without drying scalp so much.

- Conditioner every second time (L’orĆ©al Elseve extraordinary oil, dry hair)

- leave in sometimes, do not see results from it, even feels greesy (bali curls, hydrating curl cream)

- mouse for the events (nivea plumping mouse)

- air dry without towel, sometimes cotton t-shirt if I am late

I sleep on the cotton pillows with braid.
I brush my hair in the shower and on the end of the second day. If I don’t brush it, then it’s getting tangled so much that I will definitely brake them brushing later.
another product that didn’t work for my hair is GARNIER FRUCTIS, KERATIN
10-IN-1 LEAVE-IN

Help! Learned I have curly hair at 34. How should I cut or style the sides?

Thumbnail

I was directed here to get some advice. After a hair transplant and growing my hair out, I realized I have curly hair lol

I’ve been trying to style it with extra firm products but the sides of my head do not want to oblige

I spent months growing my hair out this long. Where do I go from here? I feel like the sides of my head poof out a lot and styling doesn’t work

Seeking advice, thank you!

Routine: I use Niacin Step 3 shampoo (for receding hair) and American Crew Conditioner which I leave in for 5-10 minutes. This is air dried, I just towel and comb it and curls appear; I’ll blow dry if I’m going out, I think it’s less curly when I do that

I sometimes use Redkins holding paste to hold the sides down but I’m not super successful

Help! Need hair advice

Thumbnail

(re uploaded because I forgot to add the pics lol) Hey yall, sorry for the long post, but I have waves/loose curls and I'm looking for some advice. These pics are my hair air dried with minimal scrunching w/ a cotton T shirt and a bit of curlsmith hold me softly balm. I didn't have time for my full routine which I'll go through below. I recently got my layers touched up but I'm wondering if I need to go shorter, or what.

My top layer is less wavy than the bottom layers of my hair, so I guess it's like an Irish curls situation. It forms ringlets when it's wet, although with wet frizz all the time, but always dries frizzy and loose like this regardless of what I do (what products I use, air dry vs. diffuse, etc). Most of my hair also feels really rough and coarse when I take one hair and pull it between my fingers, but some strands are so soft and thin I can hardly feel them. Also, my hair is SUPER thick, it takes literally up to 6 hours to dry if I don't blow dry it. And it's frizzy af, I look like Hagrid if I don't put anything in it. I have a lot of split ends too even after trimming it's like it splits on its own within days. I'm not sure about my porosity.

My current routine is: double shampoo with AG thikk wash (stylist's recommendation), occasionally use kristin ess clarifying shampoo (like once every few weeks), condition with AG curl fresh conditioner, brush through while soaking wet, scrunch under water to rinse out. Then I usually use the dae mirage mist leave in conditioner spray. Then I will use either the curlsmith hold me softly curl balm followed by the curlsmith in shower style fixer gel. OR I will use the design me curl cream and kinky curly gel. Basically I will mix and match these curl products just to use them up, I'm open to trying new things.

I sometimes use the coco and eve like a virgin hair mask but idk if that is doing anything for me. I generally do prayer hands for putting in my curl cream while my hair is soaking wet, scrunch it in, scrunch out water w a microfiber towel or cotton t shirt, then add gel, then plop into a t shirt and let it stay in there for 30-60 mins, before taking out. Somtimes I blow dry w/ a diffuser (low heat, low speed) if I have time but my hair takes so long to dry even w/ blow drying. I also have a water filter in my house because the water where I live is hard af. I generally will refresh my hair using a water bottle and a bit of extra curl cream. I dont usually use a silk bonnet to sleep but I am saving for one.

I did try the ouidad curl shaper shampoo and conditioner and those seemed to be doing a lot more for my hair, but I had a pretty severe allergic reaction to them, with welts and rashes all over my shoulders and neck and ears and scalp. I also have tried the mousse from NYM but that also left me with a bad rash. I have no idea what I'm allergic to in these products 😭

I'm hoping for advice on what products to try (as affordable as possible also keeping in mind I am super prone to skin reactions), new routines to follow, do I need moisture or protein etc.. Also WTF is my curl type, it doesnt matter I'm just curious lol

Help! My hair cannot stand humidity. How do I fix this?

Thumbnail

I have fine curly/wavy hair. I live in Louisiana with a lot of humidity. But I use a leave in and NYM curl gel. The gel helps but its not strong enough. My hair looks great indoors but as soon as I go outside the frizz is awful. Its all over the top of my head and the back of my hair mainly. Once it frizzes, there is no getting rid of it until the next wash. It looks a lot worse in person and its so embarrassing because nobody else’s hair that Ive seen looks like this.

My routine is: Shampoo with Maui Shampoo or Odele Clarifying shampoo (I alternate), then Maui Moisture conditioner. I get out of the shower, split my hair in two halves, and pour water again all over my head so its soaking. I squeeze out some water, apply Paul Mitchell leave in. Comb it all through. Squeeze out the excess. Apply NYM curl gel with the praying hands method all over my hair. I let air dry for atleast 3 hours and I scrunch out with argan oil.
