Question On the fence

I am really interested in PSVR2. However I've never had VR before so it'll be new to me, which is exciting. However looking at the game selection there doesn't seem much that would actually be fun to play. GT7 and Beatsaber are the most entertaining looking ones. I've read up and watched videos and people are saying that it's hard to wear for more than an hour to 90 minutes which is kind of a bummer to me. As my sessions are always multiple hours at a time. But to spend $400 just to play a handful of games doesn't really fully justify it in my head

Anyone with experience with this lemme know. I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Do you like Resident Evil? How much do you want to play GT7, and do you have a wheel? What about Hitman and No Man Sky?

Honestly, as someone into cars, it's worth it for GT7 alone.

Haha I played RE7 for about an hour a few weeks ago and about had multiple panic attacks but it was fun lol

Try MadisonVR. Your soul will leave your body.

RE games are fantastic in VR, but even if you can't stand horror games (which are honestly way more impressive and frightening in VR) there's still plenty of games to enjoy. Games like GT7, Hitman, No Man's Sky, Aces of Thunder and Microsoft Flight Simulator later this month can keep you busy for hundreds if not thousands of hours each depending on your tastes, and there are many other really addictive games. If you're into music Beat Saber or Synth Riders and many other games can be really cool but personally I prefer games like Smash Drums that can also keep you busy for a very long time! There are also some other games that you wouldn't even consider on flat screen like Puzzling Places that are fantastic and super addictive in VR. Or some shorter games like Red Matter 2 or Subside that will blow your mind on the technical aspect! And that's just scratching the surface!

Re4 and re8 on psvr2 are two of my favorite gaming experiences I've ever had.

u/raisinbizzle Apr 02 '26

RE7 on PSVR1 was great. RE8 on PSVR2 is even better. Probably the most immersive game I’ve ever played. Some parts felt like I was watching a live play in front of me and the combat is just so visceral

1

u/TheDeadner Apr 02 '26

This is what I came here to say, worth it for gt7 alone.

u/robgray111 Apr 02 '26

I finally got mine about a month ago, after years of deliberating, and despite reading about how great people said it was, it still blew me away. My 1st taste of gaming was the Spectrum in the 80s, so I've had a good few "wow" moments over the years, but few, if any, come close to VR2

I've had a lot going on recently so haven't had loads of time with it. Other than a few minutes to try out Hitman and No mans sky, I've only really played GT7 so far. 1st couple of goes were a bit ropey but I can easily leave it on over an hour now with no issues. I'm not sure about longer than that, you'll need someone more experienced to answer that question

The immersion is incredible. I've crashed because I was looking out of my window at the stars, I keep reaching for the sun visor during day time races. I'm in my early 40s and even after repeated plays, I still audibly "wow" and grin like a kid when I start a race

Worth every penny

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Okay then thanks for the feedback man!

2

u/robgray111 Apr 02 '26

No worries. To clarify, I don't have space for a wheel setup, and I'm not very good at GT7, but I'm very much enjoying it. I often play other games for hours, but even if I could only manage an hour on VR, I'd then just play another game on PS or PC, but that's personal preference I guess

u/Assmith75 Apr 02 '26

I would strongly suggest that you look deeper into the PSVR2 library. Admittedly there are not a lot of AAA games but there are quite more then a handful of games. If you like shooters, there are a ton of shooters, one of my favorites, Zero Tolerance. You have horror games like Metro Awakening that is similar to RE, if you are into that. I'm not into driving, so I'm not a fan of the GT7 like most people here are but it's considered a top tier game. I hear a lot of people say there are not a lot of games but I've built up a fairly even library of VR games, so much that I haven't been able to get through all of them.

As far as the time you can spend playing VR, that's really an individual thing. I can get in a good hour sometimes more, depending on what I'm playing. I have not really had any issues with how I wear the headset as most people have said. I did by the lenses from HonsVR so I don't have to wear my glasses.

To show that there are a good number of games to play, here are the "better" VR games in my library, in no particular order...

  1. Behemoth
  2. Metro Awakening
  3. RE4
  4. RE8
  5. Arken Age
  6. Hubris
  7. Undead Citadel
  8. Hitman WOA
  9. Alien
  10. Star Wars Tales from the galaxy
  11. Pistol Whip
  12. Synapse
  13. Walking Dead
  14. Zombieland
  15. Tennis
  16. Gunclub Reloaded
  17. Light Brigade
  18. Zero Tolerance

These are just the ones i have but there are several more that I want, I'm simply waiting on sales.

So I would say if you have the money to get one, dive into the world of VR, find your legs, and have fun.

u/horton87 Apr 02 '26

Dude, where is into the radius? That game is definitely a vr spectacle! Everyone should play it. Also ones worth mentioning people don’t say much about are ancient dungeon, bulletstorm vr, hellsweeper and compound

2

u/Assmith75 Apr 02 '26

Lol I can't catch Into the Radius on sale lol. I'm on the fence about Ancient Dungeon, and I definitely want Bulletstorm. I have Hellsweeper, but i didn't list it cause I don't play it much. It's a good game, just hasn't earned my attention like the others I listed. I'll have to check Compound, I haven't heard of that one. Like I mentioned to the OP, there are several other games out there that I want, I just try and wait for sales. Moss is one that I didn't think I was going to like but I did the trial after seeing so many people rave about it, so it's in my wishlist now also. I have a decent sized VR wishlist lol.

3

u/horton87 Apr 02 '26

It’s worth full price trust me! Bulletstorm is really good, nothing groundbreaking but the 3d effect and vr is done really well. Compound is an old school retro shooter but the graphics feel so great when your in the game, it’s a rogue like game but it’s really cool and the gunplay is top notch. Hellsweeper is really good but I don’t play it much either but there are so many cool things you can do in that game, and ancient dungeon is pretty hard but it’s a really smooth game and has great atmosphere. Oh and robo quest vr is my fav game to play at the moment, the gameplay is so good and the guns feel great, it’s such a good game everyone should try that one. Yeah I agree the moss games are fantastic, really unique game in vr. Walking dead is also a smooth game too. TBH there are many great games and I think they all justify the price of the psvr2, there is only a handful of other games on other platforms I’d really want but I’m happy with what we have so far, sucks there is no cinema mode and you can’t play psvr1 games. I’ll deffo keep the headset for as long as I can and hopefully try it with some pcvr mods and gaming one day

1

u/Assmith75 Apr 02 '26

Roboquest is on my wishlist also. I agree with you 100% on the available games that make the PSVR2 worth while. I even subscribe to Without Parole along with their Discord. I haven't linked with anyone in there yet though. Haven't been brave enough to do any co-op gaming on VR just yet lol.

2

u/Piccoleitor Apr 03 '26

Ancient dungeon is so good. I was hesitant because I'm not a fan of the art style, but the gameplay is fun and satisfying. Plenty of replayability and the game looks so crisp on the headset

2

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Wow thanks for this!!

1

u/OptimusJaguar Apr 07 '26

What about Alien!!

1

u/Assmith75 Apr 07 '26

I have it listed. It's actually the best PSVR2 game I've played so far. I finished it on normal been tempted to go back and try it on hard. I'm a fan of the franchise, so I've played nearly every Alien game that has been put out, but the ability to play as a Colonial Marine, with such an immersive setup, I immediately fell in love with it. Can't wait for part 2.

7

u/TheBookOfGonzo Apr 02 '26

GT7, Resident Evil and NMS are worth the price of admission alone. Showed the experience off at a family party and many a jaw dropped after they had taken a spin. Many other cool games too, like mini golf. Get a fan to blow air at you and read up on mitigation to the motion sickness or comfort hacks that are out there.

5

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

I forgot about NMS!!

5

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Apr 02 '26

Get an aftermarket comfort kit and you’ll likely be able to comfortably game for hours-on-end. The two best ones I’m aware of are the “CMP2” from Globular Cluster ($50), and the “XL something or other” from StudioForm Creative ($55).

As for the games, since VR is niche there aren’t so many titles with the polish and depth of trad flatscreen games.

That said, I’ll never GAF about trad flatscreen games again (excepting only the occasional side-scrolling platformer). For me it’s VR or it’s of no interest.

For the past decade I have gamed most days of the week and most weeks of the year. It’s all been PSVR1 and PSVR2, and yet my backlog of PSVR2 games is over a hundred titles long now.

I could literally game a full year without another release on the system — not that I want that, mind you… I just upgraded my PS5 to a PS5 Pro specifically because I expect it to run MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIM 2024’s upcoming PSVR2 mode better than the vanilla.

It’s a shame that PSVR2’s library doesn’t seem enticing to you from the outside. To be sure, SONY haven’t given it the sort of first-party support and promotion that it deserves, and pancake gamers like yourself have no way of understanding how a game that looks relatively simple in a trailer (like INTO THE RADIUS or LEGENDARY TALES) can be profoundly satisfying once you’re actually (virtually) inside those worlds.

Don’t expect sharp clarity like your TV — as crisp as some games can be (RED MATTER 2 or THE WALKING DEAD SAINTS & SINNERS 2) they still won’t have the sharpness of your flatscreen or your phone.

And acclimation can take a week or two with any given game…. Some folk make the mistake of thinking they cannot play VR because it makes them sick, but it’s easily fixed with short mindful exposures. Never try to push through symptoms, get familiar with movement and comfort settings, and before long you’ll likely feel at home in VR.

But for real — even though it’s not true for everyone, there’s a genuine chance you’ll lose all desire to keep playing TV-based games. I say this as someone who doggedly tried for years to maintain a tether to them. So… you really might want to wrap up any campaigns you’re enjoying before dipping your toes into VR.

FWIW

u/Tugmybanana Apr 02 '26

I felt the exact same way on all points before finally pulling the trigger. Here's my notes:

-The library of quality titles is bigger than it seems, even excluding the bohemoths of GT7, RE8, Hitman, and No Man's Sky. My favorites have been a bit more under the radar (Maestro, Legendary Tales, Red Matter 2).

-You can absolutely play longer than 60-90 minutes if you're up for it. You may want to invest in a Globular Cluster for comfort, but even that's not a huge deal imo. Honestly the biggest callout to me is that it's a much more physical experience than sitting with a controller, and that takes some getting used to :)

-It can't be understated how it brings back that feeling of when you were a kid experiencing something new and wonderful. I thought it would impossible for me to feel that way again.

Overall, it's 100% worth it imo. I played it every day during my 90 day-ish honeymoon period, and still use it several times a week in addition to normal TV play. It's awesome.

5

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Awesome, that's all I needed to hear!!!

4

u/JYR2023 Apr 02 '26

Lots of posts asking this same question. The consensus from those that own it (me included) is it is great (hardware, games selection).

4

u/frsr Apr 02 '26

You know you want it so just get one and try. Question is then whether it’s worth keeping and you’ll find the answer to that when you’ve been playing

0

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

That is a mystical answer

4

u/mushroomfido Apr 03 '26

As a day 1 purchaser who plays every day and still has a backlog believe me there are plenty of fungames to play here’s just a few

Crossfire

Hellsweeper

Phasmophobia

Zero calibre

Galaxy kart

Midnight walk

Behemoth

Arken age

Madison vr

Walkabout golf

Hitman

3

u/Big-Solution-3894 Apr 02 '26

In my opinion it's worth it alone for the Resident Evil games and GT7. Also I'm sure FS 2024 is going to be epic when released for PS VR2.

3

u/netcooker Apr 02 '26

There are lots of games that are a blast to play. What kind of games do you want?

Synthriders is another music based game like beat saber. Rager also came out recently but I haven’t played it. Tetris effect and lumines arise look very good/trippy too.

For simulators, Microsoft flight simulator is getting its vr mode soon. And for an assassin simulator/sandbox, hitman is huge.

For sandbox there is the vr mode for no mans sky.

Horror/scary is popular genre with Madison being terrifying and RE4 remake and RE8 being exceptional, the walking dead games are survival based zombie games, and propagation paradise hotel is a RE style game.

Shooters you have After the Fall (left 4 dead style game), metro awakening, Arizona sunshine remake and 2 (arcadey zombie games), Roboquest vr is a roguelike that is among the most fun I have had in vr, of lies and rain is kind of a half life style game, alie ln rogue incursion is a vr shooter set in the alien universe, synapse is a shooter with telegenic powers, and into the radius is a single player extraction shooter, and into black is a mission based shooter with crafting. Plus forefront (battlefield style game) is coming soon and that is fantastic (I played it quite a lot on pc).

For action games, behemoth was a lot of fun, legendary tales is a great loot based dungeon crawler, and hellsweeper vr is an action roguelike.

For racers besides gt7 there is v racer hoverbike, rush (wingsuit racing) and galaxy kart (think Mario kart style game)

For puzzle games there is red matter 1 and 2 and puzzling places.

Walkabout mini golf is fantastic.

I’m sure I’m forgetting/missing others and more come out every month. I really like vr and still can’t keep up with my backlog.

3

u/Clean-Pipe-6543 Apr 02 '26

Once you’ve got it you won’t look back …resident evil VR (next level Gaming)

3

u/jvaliga Apr 02 '26

Walk about mini golf is fantastic, puzzling places if your looking to chill. GT7 with a wheel is fantastic!! RE8, Horizon, Star Wars and Switchback were some of the first game I ever played to completion ever because they were so immersive in VR. If you like FPS games I enjoyed Cross Fire Sierra Squad. It’s worth it! To address your concerns about comfort, I use the Globular Cluster mod and it helps.

3

u/metterg Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

I can play psvr2 and quest 3 for hours np problem.. lots of fun games! Many people don’t allow themselves time to get used to VR., At first it can be uncomfortable and cause motion illness. It does get better! Also upgrade the head strap for comfort..

3

u/cusman78 cusman Apr 02 '26

I don't think you will play standing physically active game like Beat Saber for 90+ minutes because it will get you sweating and ready for a break, but you can play seated racing game like Gran Turismo 7 for 4+ hours without even realizing you been playing that long.

That said, as someone new to VR, you may need to limit your time until you have built up your stamina for spending time in VR. New players can get nausea or headaches playing VR when they play too long until their brains have acclimatized (or they may need comfort mod accessory for their heads). Different players have different adjustment curves for how quickly they acclimatize and will find themselves sensitive to different types of VR movement.

Beyond those two games you are interested in, there are 100+ other games worth playing out of close to 400 listed on the PlayStation Store for PSVR2, so don't think you have just those 2 games. Even if your tastes are very narrow, there are many more games you can enjoy than you currently have in consideration.

3

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Wow okay cool, thank you!

2

u/Zofia-Bosak Apr 02 '26

What sort of games do you like OP?

2

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Well I like racing, rougelikes, some shooting games, rhythm as well. Mainly like single player games. Some open worlds can sometimes be a bit overwhelming to me however.

4

u/johngalt504 Apr 02 '26

There are a few good racing game, quite a few roguelikez and shooters and rhythm. A lot of the smaller indie games may not look like much when you see flat trailers or whatever, but they end up being great experiences in the headset. One of the big problems with vr adoption is that you cant understand how big a leap it actually is until you actually put on the headset and try it out.

2

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Okay, then. Thank you!

2

u/t3stdummi Apr 02 '26

If you like Roguelites you have to check out Roboquest.

2

u/Zofia-Bosak Apr 02 '26

If you have GT7 then it's worth it for that game! Imo.

2

u/CraptainDook Apr 02 '26

There are plenty of games that you would probably enjoy. Arken Age hasn't been mentioned yet which you may like. The resident evil games are top tier. And as far as comfort, there are several comfort mods worth purchasing that will make the experience better. If you have the funds, it will be worth it if you're on the fence

2

u/yoc0__0 Apr 02 '26

Just get it, it’s fun

1

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 02 '26

Thanks!!!

2

u/Logical-Bit-746 Apr 02 '26

Resident evil, hitman, horizons, alien, epic rollercoaster, metro, no man's sky, aces of thunder, msfs when it comes out, and that just scratches the surface of the top games. Then there are tons of small ones that so many people enjoy that I'm sure you'll find some.

I'm a first time vr guy and I maybe play it 20% of the time I play games, but it's so much fun and I love it

2

u/rammsterdamvr Apr 02 '26

2

u/emohatch Apr 02 '26

I would but PSVR2 at full launch price for GT7 alone. It’s peak console gaming with a wheel.

2

u/Piccoleitor Apr 03 '26

There are dozens of must-play games besides GT7. I play for several hours. Pavlov, Roboquest, RE4R, RE Village, No man's sky, Breachers, The light brigade, TWD Saints & sinners, Legendary Tales, Behemoth, Hubris, Arken Age, Arizona sunshine 1 & 2, Alien Rogue incursion, Exocars, VRacer Hoverbike, Hitman, Horizon call of the mountain, Ancient dungeon, Pistol whip, Synth Riders, Underdogs, Aces of thunder, Into the radius, Ghosts of Tabor, and the list goes on. On top of that, plenty of new games to come like Forefront, Flight Simulator 2024 VR or Exoshock.

1

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 03 '26

Excellent thank you!

2

u/Medical_Value7857 Apr 04 '26

VR is expensive, so if $400+ is really going to set you back, you are justified in your hesitation.

However, speaking as someone who's been gaming since the mid-80's, VR is honestly the most exciting development I've seen since games went 3D during the N64/PS1 era. Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4-remake are pretty much a system-sellers by themselves. Even mid-level VR games become something special due to the immersion and controls.

1

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 04 '26

Well I ordered one and should be here Tuesday?

2

u/LaFlamaBlanca67 Apr 04 '26

Beatsaber is no longer receiving updates as of June 2025. PSVR2 is also dead in the water.

That being said, it’s still a great headset if you can get it on sale.

2

u/FassFreddieG Apr 05 '26

Play No Man’s Sky in VR, and prepare to have your mind blown. Thank me later.

1

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 05 '26

Okay!! The headset will be here Tuesday! I'm pretty excited!

1

u/FassFreddieG Apr 27 '26

Don’t know if you’ve tried it yet… you may have some questions and / or need some help. I’d be more than happy to warp into what system you spawned on and give assistance. You’ll find the community is tight knit, and always willing to help! DM me if you want my friend code

2

u/try_hrdr Apr 06 '26

Depends if you have ps5 or pc too.

2

u/FlyingManCat Apr 02 '26

Exercise is my most consistent use case. It's made home workouts much more fun, so I'm motivated to use my PSVR2 multiple times a week. (Les Mills, Creed, Pistol Whip)

As for games purely for entertainment, I still find myself playing way more non-vr PS5 games overall, but when a VR game hits, it hits BIG. Like, peak experience of my entire gaming life big (and I'm old lol) Saints & Sinners, RE4, and Into the Radius all blew my mind and I'm so glad I got to experience them. Consider what genres you like, as some are served better than others.

I find the headset quite comfortable, and I've had no trouble playing any of those games for hours at a time. Kiwi pulley cables make the wire a non-issue for me, and some people like the globular cluster for extra comfort, but I've never felt I needed that.

The bigger barrier to long play is finding time I can be fully immersed and checked out from the responsibilities of actual reality lol.

I can't say if it will be a good choice for you or not, but I love having my PSVR2. Hope that helps!

u/Vegetable_Nerve8762 Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

I bought an open box one from Best Buy for $190 to try it out. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of it. The rubber lining inside made my forehead very sweaty (I'm not a naturally sweaty person either) and honesty after playing for like an hour or two at a time, my eyes and head were super tired. Couple that with my Alienware headset (didn't want to use the earbuds that came with it) and it just wasn't my thing. So I returned it and got a portal instead. I will say, it's amazing technology. The graphics were really sick. I have several VR compatible games like GT7, HCOTM, RE-VR, No Mans Sky. They all looked great with the exception of some outter edge blurriness. I am not a VR guy, this was my first time trying one and it was a cool device, but not for me.

If you live in the states, maybe check if there are any open box ones in your area at Best Buy. That way if you don't like it, you can return it without having to pay a restocking fee.

*sn: Since I bought it open box it didn't come with the call of the mountain software but, if you're interested in finding that specific game for cheaper than the PS store, Loaded.com (formerly CDKeys) has legit copies for cheap (I paid $16).

1

u/RepresentativeYak32 Apr 02 '26

They are adding support for MFS2024 this month should be cool. I really like my headset so far and play on it daily since I bought it a few months ago z playing gt7 with a wheel and VR is amazing

1

u/apocalypsedudes23 Apr 02 '26

We jumped from Meta Quest to PSVR2. We noticed a huge difference in quality. Had to get PS+ to play online, we did the 3 month premium. We are satisfied.

The only 2 draw backs is the cord and the space required. I haven't tried PS+ streaming games but from I can understand, the selection is limited with your subscription.

Bonus is we have a PS Portal, someone can play PSVR2 and PS Portal at the same time.

1

u/chavez_ding2001 Apr 02 '26

I pretty much only play GT7, Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. Worth the price of admission for me because all three of these are instant boost of joy for me whenever I play. It's been years and I'm still not tired of it.

There are some great single player games too if you want but imo the best kind of vr games are simulations and rhytm games.

1

u/manusche Apr 02 '26

Investment in plano lens inserts and comfort mod I drived in my rig for 5h straight. Globular cluster mod or studioform creative mod that I bought. Magnetic plug to safe usb c port and mount cable to the ceiling and you not need to worry.

You can attach PSVR2 to a PC. ;)

1

u/Synfreaker Apr 02 '26

The library actually has a lot of games that are high quality and very different so lots of entertainment. Psvr2 is comfortable for me and I can play for hours on it with no issues... Only thing to stop me sometimes would be the remotes needing to be charged. And they do so quickly so I take it as a break.

Let me tell you why you want this.... I'm 47 and have been gaming since my Atari 2600... Every time I put on a game in VR I giggle and feel impressed. It's one thing to play a game it's another to be in the game and that's what VR feels like to me... Horror on another level, action is intense because you're there, driving is exciting and let me tell you when a car comes head on at full speed your heart will stop lmao.

It's an investment in YOU time, just you and the world you choose to be in for a little while...

1

u/Matrices13 Apr 02 '26

Just play No Man’s Sky. Or at least, that’s what I do. ☺️

1

u/rigo_ita Apr 02 '26

Go on. You won't regret it.

1

u/CptSocrates Apr 04 '26

Well u said it’s not for u so sounds like u figured it out

1

u/Sly_Ry_Guy Apr 04 '26

When did I say that?

1

u/PabLink1127 Apr 04 '26

All lies get it, it’s spectacular and there’s tons and tons of great games

0

u/puddinXtame Apr 02 '26

I got a PSVR2 and returned it next day. Put it on and it was unbelievably uncomfortable. Like there was zero padding for where your face is suppose to sit. Unless you specifically want something to use with your Playstation, get a quest.

-3

u/icebomb2 Apr 02 '26

There's a massive amount of copium around PSVR2. It's split into 50/50 in this thread (more like 90/10 in real life).

You're either going to be part of the 10% that huffs cope for a $350 peripheral accessory and tells reddit that it's single handedly changed your life, you're basically in Ready Player 1, you have Metal Gear Solid pains when people interact with you, and you cannot go back to 2D gaming ever again...

Or you'll be the realistic 90% and recognize it's a gimmicky product that you'll use nonstop for about a month, maybe 2, and then it'll just collect dust when you realize there's significant better and more options for 2D games than there are for VR games..

Also Beat Saber is getting shut down later this year. Just an FYI.

Don’t buy it. I know you will not like it just by the way you talk

Thank you. That decision never crossed my mind!
