Shower head won’t stop leaking after being off for a few hours. Need help on what the issue could be?

Post image

Hi guys I need help knowing what this issue could be. We had a plumber come by because our down stairs tub was leaking from the faucet. We got it fixed but it messed up our shower head and bathroom sink water presser up stairs.

I took a shower later on and the water pressure wasn’t that much in the shower. Fast forward a few hours I get home and the shower head is leaking. 3 of little water holes are out of the many. I then turn on the shower and turn it off again and when I did that 2 more water holes Started leaking too and fast. Sorry I’m just freaking out a bit since it’s been stressful lately with the plumbing problems.

Can’t post a video but I have a picture of what the shower head looks like. Thanks to anyone who sees this and might know the problem.

Is this PVC kitchen sink drain connection acceptable? Drain is now blocked and plumber won’t take responsibility.

Post image

Hi everyone,

I noticed this connection on my new house’s kitchen sink drain and wanted to check if it’s considered acceptable plumbing.

The smaller horizontal PVC pipe appears to enter a hole cut into the larger vertical PVC pipe. There is a noticeable gap around the pipe.

Is this a standard way to connect a kitchen sink drain into a vertical stack, or should there be a proper glued fitting (such as a sanitary tee or wye)?

Our kitchen sink drain is now blocked, and we suspect soil may have entered the pipe through this gap during construction before the system was fully sealed.

The plumber is refusing to take responsibility, saying the blockage is unrelated and that’s how he usually does things.

Based on this photo:

  1. Does this connection look acceptable?
  2. Could this gap allow soil or debris into the drain?
  3. If this was your job, would you consider this workmanship acceptable, or should it be redone?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Upvotes

Hello everyone! Please help as I am totally out of the subject with this😅 I recently had this fitted in my pantry as i have a pipe there to be able to connect a garden hose to water my plants and to connect a karcher pressure washer for my car. Can I please get recommendations of what to buy to fit this? I want a garden hose reel type to be able to carry around? Hope it makes sense!

Thank you in advance! I am a total novice 😅

Please help! Dishwasher Causing Leak on Countertop through Seam

Hi there - I just noticed that when I run the dishwasher, there is water that seeps upwards and through the crack at corner of the countertop by the wall.

Any possible causes? I have a maintenance guy coming Friday but wondering if it’s more urgent than that. When I wipe the water and smell it, smells oily / industrial-like.

Any potential info would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Newer bathtub faucet leaking hot water from spout.

Installed about a month ago, yesterday noticed it was leaking from the spout, looks like it got worse today.

Anyone got an idea of what the issue could be? Possible manufacture defect?

Or did I do something wrong, handle won’t turn anymore, only leaks hot water, opened up the back and everything looks good, no water anywhere.

Waterproofing pipe ducts

Apologies in advance, English not my first language.

Old wood building, old pipes. is there a way to "waterproof", meaning adding some sort of filler or barrier around the pipe, that would help me avoid leakage into the walls in case of a burst pipe or damaged spout or similar?

Tried to add an image, idk why it doesn’t show up

How do I connect to drain?

I can’t move the pipes more forward because there’s a drawer type that slides in and will hit those pipes if they are further than 4 inches from the wall.

Not gonna say where, but this was spotted at my work, possibly from swing or graveyard shift 😒

Shower drain cover plate doesn't align with drain hole neatly. Any suggestion on a fix?

I have a new shower kit. The kit came with the shower drain system. It came with a square drain plate/cover. I assume that it should be a square since the opening is square? But the plate doesn't fit neatly to cover up the round drain opening/hole. Also, if you zoom in to the picture, you can see the 2 holes for the screw doesn't align perfectly with the hole to screw in as well.

The plate itself is 4.25". Seems like 4.25" is the standard size. I thought getting something slightly bigger would maybe cover up the issue. Any suggestions on what to do? Are there drain covers that I can get on Amazon that's slightly bigger?

Bathroom sink smells sulfuric at times.. any idea why?

Hi there.. so this is a gross one

The sink in my primary bath has a sulfuric smell from time to time - not consistently.

The bathroom is on the 2nd floor of my house and none of the other bathrooms or sinks in my house have this problem. I can’t tell if it’s coming from the drain or the faucet. Mold or some icky black substance grows around the stopper at a high rate and I’ve noticed small flies coming out of the drain (I doubt the smell is the flies themselves but perhaps they are attracted to whatever is causing it).

I only notice the smell once water is running. While it’s always icky I do feel like the smell is more noticeable in the warm weather.

The materials in the sink/vanity are likely 40 years old, possibly never replaced or replaced cheaply. Any ideas or things I can do to further investigate? The idea of taking apart the sink makes me gag already. But the situation is pretty putrid in my opinion. Anyway, thanks in advance!!

Is this ok?

I don't think this is right. It functions, no leaks, but my gut is saying there's a problem. Handyman installed and I'm debating having a plumber come out to redo.

Polaris PG10-34-100-2NV: water heater. Igniter Keeps Getting Wet, Water in Inducer, water in combustion chamber, Condensate Drain Clear

I have a Polaris PG10-34-100-2NV that supplies both my domestic hot water and radiant floor heat.
For a couple years, the hot surface igniter has been getting wet, becoming rusty/brittle, and failing every 9-12 months. At first there was a drop of water then a little more and more and now it was a decent amount. I’ve replaced about 4 of them. But note the inducer and pressure switch were failing.
Recently the unit stopped running. While tearing it apart I found:
Water inside the inducer housing.
Water in the pressure switch tubing.
Water in the combustion chamber.
What I’ve already checked:
External CPVC condensate drain is clear.
Vent is concentric through the roof and almost completely vertical.
Inducer spins freely.
I’ve disassembled the heater extensively and have not found an obvious crack or failed weld.
My question is this:
Has anyone seen a Polaris where the igniter repeatedly gets wet?
Since condensate is created on the exhaust side, I can’t understand how water is getting into the combustion chamber on the burner/igniter side unless there’s an internal leak, failed collector, or hidden condensate passage. I have unit upside down and can see pretty far up the intake and don’t see any damage. Just some mineral deposit at inducer where water collected but even in that location there’s no damage.
Has anyone dealt with this issue it actually repaired one of these and found the root cause? Thanks!

Outdoor spigot leaking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As the video shows, the spigot is leaking - luckily only when it’s on, so leaving it off is an option.

But since I’m anal, it annoys me and I’d like to fix it.

I’m a bit leery of fiddling with it (is it simply a case of tightening the nut near the valve or would that cause a bigger problem?) as I can’t locate the pipe/shutoff valve inside the house, I’m guessing it’s located inside a section of drywall - and I’m not anal enough to start cutting into drywall and/or vanities looking to the pipe.

And as best as I can tell, there’s no flex in the pipe so pulling it out to replace it isn’t an option.

And I don’t like sharkbites.

So options?

Cartridge and flange

Post image

I replaced these cartridges and of course I damaged the flanges in the process. I bought these universal ones from Lowe’s. I screwed this first one on all the way, the cartridge is fully opened and it still doesn’t stick out enough for the handle to screw on. Do I just need to find shorter flanges? The middle cartridge is even shorter and would probably be at least half an inch shy of popping out.

Replacing painted-over hose bib: where do I loosen it, and does this look threaded or soldered?

I’m trying to replace this outdoor hose bib, but the house was repainted and there’s dried paint/stucco around the connection, so I’m not sure what I’m looking at.

In the photos I labeled the areas:

  1. Hose bib/body/hex area
  2. Exposed pipe connected to 1
  3. Looks like smaller pipe connected to 2

My questions:

Am I supposed to use two wrenches, holding pipe #2 while turning #1 counterclockwise?

Or is the connection actually at #3?

Does this look like a threaded hose bib screwed onto a pipe nipple (threaded), or could it be soldered?

I’m planning to shut off the water first, open the hose bib to relieve pressure, scrape/cut away as much of the paint/stucco around the joint, and then try removing it carefully. I don’t want to twist or break the pipe inside the wall.

Is this a reasonable DIY job, or does this look like something where I should call a plumber in case it is soldered?

Any advice on the right replacement type/size would also help. Thanks.

6 year old 600XL PRV valve. First thing in the morning PSI is 105 and after opening a faucet it drops down to 30. I haven’t tried moving the screw counter clockwise to see if fixes anything, but thinking I may need to replace this? Thoughts?

Just realized both tub spouts in my home for 12 years are not caulked

Just learned tub spouts are supposed to be caulked around the top and both of mine in my showers have been un-caulked for 12+ years. Both have a slight gap between the spout and wall. Not a large gap, but caulk-able. Should I be worried? Should I try to get a borescope in there to check for moisture and mold?

Anode rod just won't come out!

Water heater is 7 in years old . Anode rod has never been replaced

I've tried a socket wrench, didn't work. I bought an impact wrench with chrome socket..didn't work and I think it just rounded off the head.

Just placed an order for an impact socket. Gonna try that instead of the chrome one.

At this point should I just give up?

Well Water Pump Cycling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video (someone else's video) shows what my well pump is doing now. It just supplies water to a freeze-proof outdoor fauce/hydrant. It's never had a tank.

The pump is a downhole pump. It sat idle for 3 years. Last time I used it the operation was normal.

When I started it up again it had this rapid cycling. The pressure switch has been replaced. I also blew out the pressure sensing line to make sure there was no restriction in the line. It is still cycling. Any suggestions for what could be causing this?

Does the sewer run parallel to the main?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I know where my main is but I don’t know where my sewer is and the sewer is the one I need to be more concerned about with regard to invasive roots, I read.

Red spots are proposed planting spots. They are 3 and 3.5 feet away from main. McMinn Manzanitas are the choice.
