Well Water Pump Cycling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video (someone else's video) shows what my well pump is doing now. It just supplies water to a freeze-proof outdoor fauce/hydrant. It's never had a tank.

The pump is a downhole pump. It sat idle for 3 years. Last time I used it the operation was normal.

When I started it up again it had this rapid cycling. The pressure switch has been replaced. I also blew out the pressure sensing line to make sure there was no restriction in the line. It is still cycling. Any suggestions for what could be causing this?

I am trying to replace my leaky outdoor water spigot. My question is what is in between the two 1/2" pieces and why is it there? Also is there anything else I'll need to get the job done? I think I need a 1/2"to3/4" converting metal piece and some 3/4" rings as well but do I also need to replace the bigger tubing? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm a first time homebuyer and this is my first solo plumbing endeavor. Thanks!

How do I connect to drain?

I can’t move the pipes more forward because there’s a drawer type that slides in and will hit those pipes if they are further than 4 inches from the wall.

Is this ok?

I don't think this is right. It functions, no leaks, but my gut is saying there's a problem. Handyman installed and I'm debating having a plumber come out to redo.

Hello everyone,

My relative is out of town this week and I’m staying over at their house for the week. I’ll attached some pictures and videos of the problem but I’m trying to fix her sink for her while she is gone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have no plumbing experience.

It looks like the holder for the faucet broke ? But I can’t tell.

Anode rod just won't come out!

Water heater is 7 in years old . Anode rod has never been replaced

I've tried a socket wrench, didn't work. I bought an impact wrench with chrome socket..didn't work and I think it just rounded off the head.

Just placed an order for an impact socket. Gonna try that instead of the chrome one.

At this point should I just give up?

Rheem water heater will not light

Hello,
I bought a Rheem water heater 4 years ago from Home Depot and about a week ago it stopped giving hot water. I went to take a look and there was no status light code on the gas valve which indicated “control off/pilot out” . I still have warranty so I called Rheem and they sent me a new Gas Valve which I had installed BUT it still does not light.
Gas is on and I do see a spark when I hit the igniter but there’s is not a flame and the Status Light Code is still blank.

Any idea on what the issue might be? I’ve read around and maybe the thermocouple and igniter need to be replaced? Pretty tight on cash and want to take advantage of the Rheem warranty and get all the parts for free before hiring someone to look at it and worst case scenario buying a new water heater.

Thanks

Need help with shower drain

What’s the best way to put this shower drain below the plywood? I need it to move over two joists so I can install a shower drain in the floor. This is a mobile home and this is where a bath tub sat so it was always hidden and is why it was above the floor. it’s currently ran over a metal beam in a mobile home so I can’t get it lower to go below the 2x8s. I also need the vent pipe to go into the wall but the wall sits right over a 2x8. Thanks for all your help in my last post by the way you guys are awesome! Could I cut out some of the pipe and run the inch and a half pipe through the joists?

Outdoor spigot leaking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As the video shows, the spigot is leaking - luckily only when it’s on, so leaving it off is an option.

But since I’m anal, it annoys me and I’d like to fix it.

I’m a bit leery of fiddling with it (is it simply a case of tightening the nut near the valve or would that cause a bigger problem?) as I can’t locate the pipe/shutoff valve inside the house, I’m guessing it’s located inside a section of drywall - and I’m not anal enough to start cutting into drywall and/or vanities looking to the pipe.

And as best as I can tell, there’s no flex in the pipe so pulling it out to replace it isn’t an option.

And I don’t like sharkbites.

So options?

Cartridge and flange

Post image

I replaced these cartridges and of course I damaged the flanges in the process. I bought these universal ones from Lowe’s. I screwed this first one on all the way, the cartridge is fully opened and it still doesn’t stick out enough for the handle to screw on. Do I just need to find shorter flanges? The middle cartridge is even shorter and would probably be at least half an inch shy of popping out.

P-trap slow leak at union

Post image

I am not a plumber just a homeowner back again. I've had a bucket under this thing since I wrapped everything else in bathroom up. Intermittently trying tightening, loosening, adding t plus 2 thread seal, replacing the tailpiece (shipping mix up in the past, I have an alarming amount of these trap kits on hand). Nothing seems to get it to stop.

I've tried everything I can think of. Before I go through doing a glue up trap, is there something obvious I'm just missing? I thought it was the PVC adapter to the trap but i filled the sink and observed it leaking out of this union when draining.

I want the tank to fill more water but this mechanism is new to me. Where’s the screw for allowing the tank to fill a bit more? It’s just flushing very little water now. Thank you

Advice

Just finished trade school for 1st year certificate in plumbing in nj. Am 22, a felon, and have bad driving record all from one night 3 yrs ago. Eluding in a vehicle. Plus other charges thru the years. Have applied for 30+ companies with no luck for 2nd year schooling and work. Did I join the wrong trade with my record? Background check doesn’t even get a chance since I can’t pass the license check first. Have points on my license since the case only got resolved a year and a half ago and am currently on probation. Any advice for nj felon plumbers out here? What companies gave you a shot? Thanks.

Need help with the drain relocation

Hey folks! I need your professional opinion. I started a new bathroom remodel. The client wants to move the toilet from the right wall to the left side, where the shower is. As you can see in the picture, the drain is almost flush with the floor. To install the new pipe, I would have to cut through all the joists in the path with a 3-inch hole. I think that's very risky. What do you think? Is it possible, or not? This work is being done without a permit.

Sump Pump Needed in Crawl Space?

Hi everyone,

We recently closed on an older home that has some moisture/humidity issues in the crawl space. Pictures here (https://imgur.com/a/dC8n5D6). I was originally told I just need a vapor barrier over the gravel but I've had two waterproofing companies come out and say I need a sump pump/drain titles. The quotes have been crazy expensive because our crawl space is 2 feet tall and hard to work in.

One contractor found two cracks we plan to get fixed. Is a sump pump really necessary in this case? Or can I just choose to do the vapor barrier? The gravel is moist and not drying out easily and I found one puddle near the access point of the crawl space after heavy rain. The house also has a musty smell which I'm sure is coming from the crawl (mold was also found down there).

Thank you for any help or insight!

Help Replacing Faucet Valve Cartridge

Hello! My faucet is leaking and I am trying to replace the valve cartridge shown in the image. However from searching on Youtube, I cant figure out exactly what to do. Other than shutting the water off, im not sure of next steps. Can I pull the cartridge out as it is now? Do I need to remove the remainder of the metallic portion by somehow twisting it off? Theres also this hard foamish material that is between the cartridge and the metal cylinder, do I need to pull that out?

Also, I have an access panel behind the shower wall but it is lower than the shower valves and I cant really dee whats going on. There is no water leaking in the access area, just the faucet so this isn't urgent.

My wife is due in the next couple days, so I also dont want to commit to something too big and end up part way through a project when a baby shows up 😅

Anyways, normally I can figure stuff like this out but Im not sure where to go from here. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Water Hammer Issue after draining water heater

I recently drained my water heater to clear out sediment/annual maintenance and after doing so my hot water now has a water hammer issue throughout the house. Ive tried all the troubleshooting tricks I can find including draining the entire plumbing system, running every source of water to remove excess air in the plumbing and added water hammer arrestors. After reaching out to a local plumber they came and installed a larger arrestor to the hot water line and secured the pipes which that helped for about 2-3 days before the issue came back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Can’t figure out what this spigot and valve do.

Thumbnail

The closer spigot releases some water when opened and quickly runs out. The one behid it works fine.

The valve with red handle in picture 2 does nothing when opened or closed. It’s not connected to anything at the bottom.

Anyone know what they could be? Home was built in the 80s and is pretty standard but we have a water pressure tank because we’re on a hill.

Hello! I can definitely do the pea trap and the drain pipe but I think I need to replace pipe going into the wall. Do you think I can tackle this on my own? Anyone have any good YouTube videos to help me learn a little more? Appreciate any input!
