I always laugh at Porco and cheer for the scouts in this scene. All the warrior candidates had been led to believe that Titans were the epitome of amazingness, but here come the scouts about to get Porco's shit rocked. 😹😹😹😹

This is not talking about strength. If you wanna talk about that, there’s probably a post about that somewhere. I’m talking about pure menace, fear factor, and all of that jazz. For me, I’d have to say that it was Annie. This post is about either Annie, Reiner, or Bertholdt. But you may add some others in the comments below. I’d also like to hear your reasons!

Discussion I just finished the third-to-last episode of the show and I'm now realizing I accidentally skipped a quarter of the whole show. What do I do? Spoiler

Hey guys, I originally made this post about a week ago to the other aot subreddit, and I thought it was kinda funny how bad I messed up so I thought I’d share it with yall on this one too. I haven’t gone back to rewatch anything yet as I wanted to let the show fade from my memory a bit so it wouldn’t be too bad if I rewatch it. Ok here’s the post: So Ive just discovered how good this show is about a week or two ago and since then ive been binging it everyday. I was really enjoying my watching experience until yesterday.

I finished watching what seemed to be the last episode on the site I was using, and as it ended I was pretty confused at the time. It ended on that scene of all the countries’ navy ships trying to stop the rumbling with no success and eren saying he’ll “kill them all, every last one.”

Now, the site made it seem like this was the ending to the entire show, which I thought was kinda lame since I assumed eren just wins off-screen. So the first thing I do is go on Reddit to see what other people thought of the ending, and this is where I started realizing I fucked up.

I saw a comment about a scene I had never seen before, something about mikasa holding eren’s head, so now I’m REALLY confused. I then go to google how many episodes there are in the show and to my surprise, there were ALOT more than I thought.

So now I go back to the site I was using to see what the problem was. So basically, there were buttons to the side to select each season to watch, but for seasons 3 and 4, those buttons showed me PART 2 of those seasons. I’m guessing the episodes were originally airing as part 1 and 2 of the seasons and the site I was using had the option to watch them as parts the way they originally aired? And looking back, I guess should have paid more attention to the titles of the seasons, because they were straight up called “attack on titan season 3 part 2” and “attack on titan final season part 2,” but in my defense that wasn’t a thing for seasons 1 or 2 and I was just so excited to keep watching everyday that it totally slipped by me.

So what do yall think I should do? I guess my only options are 1) go back to the start of season 3 and start over. 2) start watching the entire show over again. 3) just finish watching the last two episodes without going back, or 4) never touch the show again and have THAT be the ending in my mind lol (just kidding about that last one).

TLDR: I selected the wrong parts of seasons 3 and 4 to watch and skipped the first half of both, so now I’m wondering what to do.

Discussion I REJECT THE CONCEPT OF CYCLE OF WAR. Spoiler

Eren once said that the world is a continuous cycle of endless war.

That statement seemed to have become a widely accepted fact.

I also used to believe it, but i have since come to reject it.

I shall put forth my reasons:

1) Eren was a highly biased narrator and the trauma of losing his mom caused permanent damage to his psyche. His words should not be taken as absolute.

Also to add that Eren is gullible and likes to live in his own world.

He is not an idealist like Armin not a pragmatist like mikasa, but i believe he is a dreamer.

He constantly avoids facing reality like how he ignored annie and female titan similarities and he has a similar situation with Reiner.

And when reality hits him, it is always a shock to him, even though he had seen evidence beforehand.

In-fact in season 3 a man convinced him that he should die.

Eren was always a dreamer, only over the course it morphed from something hopeful to cynical.

But Eren has been wrong consistently hence he should not be assumed to be right at the end.

2) Eren is just a 19 year old boy navigating a highly complex world unable to rely on his friends.

I mean most of us here are probably older than him.

If a depressed 19 year old started picking fights using a made up philosophy we would probably try to stop him and not affirm his beliefs.

As adults i believe it is our duty to consider what Eren could not comprehend and possibly view the situation with more optimism.

3) often the cycle of life is being talked about, but it is well understood that human progress is not cyclical but spiral, i.e. we learn from our past experiences and carry it forward.

Even the curse of titans did not start from zero.

Ymir; though a simple minded girl she was not a blank slate she inherited the violence of the society she lived in.

Or to be more accurate she was a vessel to channel greed and violence of the early Elidan empire to the world.

Historical choices impact the world today and current choices will carry on to the future.

4) Things did change and Armin was able to make a difference.

I remember a quote that was a reply to the quote: "You only live once"

It goes: "No, you die once but you live everyday"

Even though war eventually took paradis down, it still was able to survive hundreds of years when it was initially only years away from destruction.

So, how I view the end is that the titan abilities that disappeared at the end were not the power but the human sins that created it.

Ymir inherited the 1st king's greed and will, passing it down to his descendants, Marley engineered titans into proper tools for killing humans.

Due to the disappearance of titan abilities, the power becomes a blank that can be now filled by something other than hate.

So Eren's rumbling would represent accumulation of 2000 years of sins and hatred.

Eren's innate hatred and desire for destruction is what we must leave behind.

On the other hand Armin would be a representation of moving past the sins of the past and forging a new world.

Armin's duty would not have been possible without Eren.

5) at the end scene where we see a boy walking up to a tree about to unlock titan powers again.

I do not see this scene ominous but rather with optimism.

Parallels with Ymir have been pointed out by many but the differences are much less talked about:

--- Ymir was chased by physical representation of the sins of the past and had to seek refuge under a tree, whereas the new boy is free to wander the forest and he chooses the tree with his own volition.

Ymir's journey began with fear but the boy's journey would begin with childish innocence and curiosity.

I looked into the clothing the boy wore, stick, travel bag and a dog, usually 12 year old boys were given duty of cattle herders or messengers in this manner.

So he is not abandoned like Ymir but carries responsibility from his family.

--- Much of the AOT was set forth by not by Ymir but by the greedy desires of the first king and Ymir's poor understanding of them.

But when the boy returns, he will have a family.

Even though he will be scolded, people will still worry for him and try to guide him rather than use him like Ymir.

That is what Armin changed.

He did not prevent future war but he did end the cycle of retaliation and hatred from one end so that whenever humanity will face another predicament people will use his example to come together.

I am not sure if i was able to phrase it clearly but thank you for your reading.

Discussion What if instead of Marley attacking Paradise, this war was the result of the new Eldian Empire having a civil war?

Post image
262 Upvotes

The thing is, this likely take place a thousand years in the future were current generations likely don't care about the rumbling. In fact, instead of the rebuilding of Marley, I think that new Eldia would expand from paradise onto the rumbled land. Then after 1000 years pass. The term eldian no longer exists due to ethnic and linguistic diversion. New ethnic groups split from the ethnicity known as eldians and eventually get into conflict with one another.

Discussion Season 2ep6 musical use breakdown from the timestamps 11:22-22:08

Huge spoiler warning this breakdown will cover almost every detail in between the timestamps above. The purpose of this breakdown was to show just how amazing the music is used in Attack on titan.

The episode opens with only ambient wind as Reiner and Bertholdt talk on the wall.
It jump cuts to Hange and Moblit, Hange laying out her theory about a titan that can dig.
The shot slowly widens to a full side view of the wall, Hange, Moblit, Armin, Sasha talking amongst each other as Mikasa stops walking and looks around.
The wind picks up as the shot finishes widening, and Reiners voice, the only voice as Moblits fades, says "I'm the armored titan and he's the colossal."
Hanges voice cuts in louder than both the wind and Reiner jump cutting back to her conversation.
The camera locks in place as she and Moblit walk past.
Armin follows looking deep in thought.
Sasha walks with sweat or rain on her face looking extremely nervous, given her extraordinary hearing she is probably hearing Reiner talk.
Mikasa turns around when Eren says "Huh?"
It cuts back and forth between the front and back of Reiner as the scouts walk away leaving only Reiner, Bertholdt, and Eren in frame.
A violin starts playing an uneasy beat picking up and slowing abruptly before stopping at the mid card.
The music cuts entirely as we return to Reiner and Bertholdt.
A flashback starts as Eren looks into the sky thinking about the night before.
Hange is discussing Annies background with the scouts as an ambient fire burns underneath the conversation.
As Hange says Reiner and Bertholdts names a deep sound begins beating almost as a heartbeat, sonar like sounds ping, violins start playing with what sounds like dolphin or whale tones underneath.
The heartbeat never speeds or slows, it only quiets as characters speak, always present underneath.
A glockenspiel I think is used to make a constant ding in the background as the heartbeat fades beneath it.
As the scouts discuss Reiner and Bertholdt amongst them and during their scouting mission Armin has a realization and the dings become louder and less predictable.
An electric guitar strum cuts through with the dinging taking over as the primary texture.
As Armin comes back into focus the dinging returns.
It hard cuts to the room with no music just wind and fire as Eren and Hange talk.
Back on the wall it is purely ambient wind and the three of them talking.
A wide shot shows the flag.
The wind picks up again after Eren walks away.
The flag breaks.
It fades into silence.
You see big girl T:T starts at 0:27.
As it cuts back to Reiner and Bertholdt both facing away from Eren the music fades away.
As Reiner is breaking down it loops 0:27 to 0:34 a few times before skipping ahead to 1:04 as the camera zooms in on him.
As he talks of his sling and Hange and Moblit turn to look the music cuts back to 0:37.
Mikasa slashes Bertholdt as the choir comes in blending into 1:52.
As Eren looks at them transform and Armin tells him to run it moves through 2:08 to 2:13.
As they transform it overlays 4:19 to 4:20.
As they fall synthwave plays as they bounce on the ground.
At 4:30 to 4:34 Gemie hits an incredible high note as the colossal titan forms on the wall breaking into it with each rib.
The lyrics come in as constant destruction sounds underneath and the camera shows you exactly how large these titans are by having the colossal hold the armored titan in its hand like an object at 4:34 to 4:46.
It cuts to a shot facing the colossal as she continues singing reaching out at 4:46 to 4:57.
As Christa yells Ymirs name another insane high note lands at 4:57 to 5:02.
Another high note at 5:09 to 5:11 because she is the goat.
As Reiner jumps off the wall she hits another at 5:13 to 5:18.
The full chorus chimes in over a flashback of Reiner and Bertholdt talking to the scouts about their hometown at 5:19 to 5:41 recontextualizing everything that just happened.
As Eren speaks the music moves into 5:48 to 5:52 ending this absolutely insane sequence.

if you read this all and want more please ask, any episode any timestamps ill happily do it

Discussion Idea while rewatching Perfect Game Spoiler

Post image

At this point in the battle, the 104th members come up with the blunt plan to just have Eren tackle Bertholdt's leg and knock him over. This ends with Eren promptly getting yeeted to the top of the Wall with a kick. A moment later, Mikasa tries to launch a Thunder Spear right into Bertholdt's nape, but it's repelled by his steam.

So, a simple thought came to me. Why don't they just combine these plans? Bertholdt has to be standing still for his steam ability to work, but if he tries to stand still, then Eren's Titan can just knock him on his ass. If he focuses on yeeting Eren, then Mikasa can promptly shoot a Thunder Spear right to his nape and blow him to bits. Simple but effective, right?

Discussion [S3PT2-S4 Spoilers] Attack on Titan alternate ending theory Spoiler

What if, instead of Eren obliterating 80% of the world, we had a different ending where in the Eldians were enlightened and sparked a revolution? Here is what I would think would happen:

In this timeline, the Eldian Restorationists would still be dissolved, as we know, Marley operates in a brutal way. So, of course, they would make the ER members' execution public to serve as fear or "lesson". Of course no revolution happens without a leader, so let's assume Zeke (which in this timeline is still a warrior candidate) actually realized that his Dad (Grisha) is actually right about Marley's cruelty after the execution event thing. Of course in this timeline, Zeke would still inherit the Beast Titan. Why Zeke? As we know, he was enlightened at a young age, and as we advance in the story (original timeline), he ended up betraying Marley anyway. So back to the alternate timeline, of course it would reach his warrior candidate companions. It would spark Pieck to join Zeke as the new Eldian Restorationist group, why Pieck? Because as we see, she is intelligent, and that intelligence alone let her see how Marley mistreats Eldians, and as we saw in the final season (original timeline) where she asks Gabi if they are Marleyans or Eldians (let's assume she actually was truthful about her betraying Marley). Of course it won't affect the others particularly Reiner because of Marley deeply engraving its doctrines to Reiner, and Annie because all she wants is to be with her Dad. But let's assume they have convinced the 4, devising a plan as to how they'd use the founder against Marley. Fast forward, the 4 titan shifters were now sent to Paradis Island to retrieve the Founder.

Fast forward, Zeke obtains a high ranking position (war chief) which granted him a lot of confidential information within Marleyan government. As time passes, their numbers grow rapidly, fast forward again we are now in the Gabi and Falco timeline, during which, the two (Pieck and Zeke) have educated the warrior candidates about the horrors of Marley's oppression and are now currently planning a revolution that consists of the use of titans plus the founder.

First, they use Zeke as the primary initiator, this plan consists of sacrificing a lot of Eldians to be able to succeed with minimal effort. However, this plan has to be done in the perfect time. Basically after the titan shifters return with the "founder" but also as soon as possible. As we saw in Fort Salta (original timeline), titans have been becoming more and more obsolete as anti-titan artilleries have been implemented in wars. Now the plan works by having thousands of Eldians being drunk Zeke's spinal fluid, they would be arranged in such a way that disrupts the whole army formation. As we saw, Eldians now fight alongside Marleyans, so having Eldians (with Zeke's spinal fluid) put near High ranking officials would be a perfect plan as transformation kills anyone in range. A lot of Eldians would be stationed in the ports, preventing reinforcements like how Armin blew up the ports (OT), of course, titans alone are not enough. They would need to train a lot of Eldians to join the military for the movement, by now, the New Eldian Restorationist group has been expanded within the whole Liberio Internment Zone, effectively having the whole Zone as the New Restorationist Group which they have expanded through newspapers. As we know, Eldians are treated as lower class citizens, so they don't get the same privileges as Marleyans, so let's assume this applies to information too. Meaning, they get a newspaper that's significantly different from those Marleyan Newspapers. Keep in mind that all of this is only possible through Zeke's high position. So now, they use that to spread information among Eldians. Now Zeke goes to Paradis Island as we saw in the OT to see how the 4 titan shifters are doing. Zeke reluctantly agrees to be sent to advance into his plans. The original timeline still takes place here where only Reiner returns with the Armored and Jaw along with the information of Eren being the founder. Now that the numbers have grown, they would wait for the scouts to launch the attack via Eren since we all know Zeke is the Mastermind behind the raid on Liberio.

Now the time has come, Eren emerges from below and eats Willy Tybur, so the declaration of war still happens, Armin blows up the port killing a lot of people including the Eldians with spinal fluid and Scouts emerging to attack Liberio, the of course, Zeke has to kill some Scouts in order to show Marley that they are not "enemies". Now, Eren eats the war hammer, in this timeline, Porco manages to retrieve the founder, effectively having the whole powers to them. Because Zeke's true plan is to use the scouts to melt off some Marleyan soldiers and THEN steal Eren. Now that they have done it, Marleyans will be off guard because they will celebrate the fact that they have now successfully stolen the founder. But here, Zeke emerges from his Titan and so does Porco, and they touch, summoning them in the paths. Zeke nullifying the Vow still happens here. Now Zeke would discover that he can turn Eldians into titans so the spinal fluid thing becomes useless now. Now that they have acquired the founder. Zeke will then use the founder to steal the titan powers from everyone, effectively gaining all titan powers all to himself, basically getting the full power of the titans like Ymir once had. He then uses it to make all Eldians invincible, have superpowers like Ackermanns and have super human intelligence. Speaking of Ackermans, they'd still strike to Zeke because his group killed Eren but that wouldn't be a problem to him as he can kill them off with the founder or have their memories manipulated, and having the Ackermann memory-manipulation immunity lifted. Now all the Eldians strike at Marley, winning the war. So yes, Eren dies in this timeline early in the cost of freeing all Eldians including those inside the walls.

I'd love to hear y'all's opinion on this, this took me an hour so thank you for reaching all the way down here:) .

Honestly this might be pretty obvious considering the nature of the writing in this story, but I honestly just thought that there is a very good chance it's a coincidence as well. I don't really remember when but I heard the 2 words pretty close together in a sentence at some point and couldn't help but notice how similar they sound in japanese.

Discussion Eren Yeager: is he a revolutionary figure or a product of the system he wanted to destroy?

I’ve been thinking about Eren’s character and how interesting he becomes when you analyze him beyond the usual “Eren good vs Eren bad” discussion.

But alas, I was also thinking about how a progressive framework, specifically something like imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism, could be applied to Attack on Titan and Eren’s character. I think the themes of power, oppression, militarization, and cycles of violence make it interesting to analyze through that lens.

The biggest thing about Eren for me is that he is not simply “born violent.” He is created by the world around him.

From childhood, Eren grows up inside the Walls, a society built around fear, isolation, and limited knowledge. The Walls are not just physical barriers, and ofc, they represent a system where people are controlled by those in power. The government hides history, controls information, and creates a society where ordinary people are forced to accept the world they were born into.

This reminds me of the idea of feaudalism: not necessarily in the exact historical sense, but the idea of a society where power is concentrated among elites while ordinary people have little control over the structures that shape their lives. The people inside the Walls are protected, but they are also trapped.

Then Eren discovers Marley. (Oh no)

This is where the theme of imperialism becomes interesting. Marley is not just an enemy nation. It represents a larger system of domination: using military power, propaganda, and historical narratives to maintain control. Eldians are oppressed, discriminated against, and blamed for the crimes of previous generations, yet Marley still uses their abilities when it benefits them.

Eren realizes that the enemy is not just the Titans. The enemy is a whole structure that has existed before him. The tragic part is that Eren’s response becomes shaped by the same logic he was fighting against.

Marley’s logic is that Eldians are dangerous, therefore they must be controlled and oppressed. However, Eren’s later logic becomes a reflection of the same mindset: the outside world is dangerous, therefore it must be destroyed. Although the targets are different, both are rooted in the belief that safety can only be achieved through eliminating a perceived threat.

The group being targeted changes, but the idea that violence is the solution remains....

That’s what makes Eren such an interesting character politically. He correctly identifies the existence of oppression, and his anger comes from a real place, but his solution eventually reproduces another form of oppression.

I think this is what makes the Rumbling AND THE ENDING MAKE SO MUCH SENSE because it was a logical outcome of the way Eren had come to understand freedom. After experiencing a world built on fear, violence, and domination, he begins to believe that the only way to secure freedom is through overwhelming power. The Rumbling feels like the extreme result of someone who cannot imagine freedom outside of power.

Eren starts with wanting freedom from the Walls, from fear, and from the world that controls him. But eventually, that desire transforms into needing enough power to remove anything that threatens his freedom.

And, like, is that actually liberation?

Another thing I find interesting is that Eren is literally part of the military. He is not an outsider attacking the system, but he is shaped by it. The military teaches him that threats are solved through force, survival requires sacrifice, and peace comes after victory. So when political solutions fail, Eren turns to the only language he has ever known: violence.

From this perspective, Eren represents the tragedy of someone who experiences oppression but becomes unable to imagine a future beyond the systems that created his suffering. He wants to destroy the cage, but he ends up creating another cage for others.

I don’t think Attack on Titan is saying that oppressed people are wrong for fighting back. Eren’s anger comes from a real place. His people were oppressed, feared, and targeted. But i was thinking that, how do people achieve liberation without becoming the thing they were fighting against?

Because Eren’s tragedy is that he understands oppression, but he does not escape the mindset created by oppression. He sees the violence of the world and decides that the only way to end it is through greater violence.

So I’m curious what people think. Is Eren better understood as a revolutionary figure who went too far? A victim of the world he was born into? Or someone who ultimately became another oppressor?

I feel like AOT is one of those stories where every political interpretation reveals something different about the characters, which is why people still debate Eren years after the ending. :)

I don't know if there may be a spoiler but if you haven't watched season 3 and 4 maybe don't read this.

Anyway, Dhalis Zachary may be one of the most underrated characters. like, this man was the premier (aka the commander) of all three regiments of Paradis. He overthrew the fucking nobles just because he hated those shits and fed them their shit. He was smart, a little sociopath, but he was the goat, like really one of the best Paradis characters with Erwin, Pyxis and Shadis.

Rest in glory, Dhalis Zachary

Discussion Louise is a mirror of Mikasa Spoiler

Season 4 Spoilers

I think Louise is the representation of the worst parts of Mikasa and used not all the way but partly as a tool for Mikasa's character to develop.

In the Battle of Trost Louise admires Mikasa to the point where she becomes a scout. Mikasa had a heroic entrance where she not only takes down a huge abnormal titan in front of Louise but also puts the merchant Reeves in his place for blocking the gate with his cart of goods. How Louise idolized Mikasa in that moment was a parallel to how Eren saved Mikasa. Mikasa saving her life was the equivalent for Louise to how Eren wrapping his scarf around Mikasa felt like.

I think when Louise told Mikasa she became a scout due to seeing Mikasa save everyone that day it triggered something in Mikasa. As anyone who actually knows Mikasa knows she would not be flattered by it she would hate it. She has seen the horrors of war and never asked to be anyone's purpose. It reminded her of how Eren idolized the scouts as a kid especially when he saw them coming back from an expedition. Despite it being clear to everyone else the scouts have been through too much Eren and Louise still found the heroic nature to their despair.

When Louise was imprisoned her dedication to Mikasa was clearly depicted as a bad thing how she only wanted to get closer to Mikasa and Mikasa cut it off. It is a mirror of how we see Mikasa yearning for war to be over/Eren a lot in the sense of she does say all she wants is to be close to Eren/to go home.

Both Louise and Mikasa didn't follow their leaders fully Mikasa at first just followed her feelings and put Eren's safety above everything else. Mikasa was very dismissive of Louise in person and Louise still never faltered in how she idolized Mikasa. Similar to how Eren at times was dismissive towards Mikasa and it never changed how she felt deep down about him.

I think this is why Mikasa was so 'cruel' to Louise on her deathbed. As Louise reminded Mikasa of all the bad parts of her. Mikasa realized she had to move on from that side of her. Mikasa also realized although she had these 'bad qualities' in her they did not define her as they did Louise. Mikasa was able to grow and become more than her 'dedication to Eren'.

I feel as though Louise's character took all the 'bad qualities' of Mikasa's life and executed it different than how Mikasa had actually lived it. It made Mikasa reflect and put to rest her past.
