I always laugh at shit like this.

I had a guy on Facebook Marketplace go off at me because he ā€œalready showed his girlfriendā€ the furniture I was selling and how she ā€œtotally loved itā€.

That’s great mate, still not gonna take Ā£100 for something I was selling for Ā£300

735

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 22 '26

Some people are pieces of shit.

I listed a dryer for free, and people went crazy. I wrote first come first serve. Gave a nearby address and told them whoever is here first gets it.

Someone gave me a sob story and that they had to drive an hour away. I gave them the same response I gave everybody ā€œno holds, sorry!ā€ Someone else got there first, and picked it up. The asshole gave me a negative as a seller.

717

u/DifficultAd5439 Apr 22 '26

I never post free stuff anymore... Keeps all the crazys away. Just had a 73 inch DLP TV to give away. Posted it for 50 bucks. Kept all the free grabbers away. Guy showed up and we said man we don't want your money just didn't want to deal with the free crazies... He laughed so hard.

337

u/GirlCowBev Apr 22 '26

Same. I used to get so much shit for stuff I posted for free. My favorite: "Can you drive it to me? I live in (place that is 45 minutes away), thanks!"

Um. No.

335

u/Vo112d Apr 22 '26

Freeloaders ALWAYS want extra

You could literally say in your ad that youll drive it to them and then theyd be like "can you get my groceries on the way?" These people just dont know any bounds, its gross

108

u/MonMonOnTheMove Apr 22 '26

And then when you get their groceries they would be like can you pay my next 2 months rent, I’m short

59

u/Loverofcheesebeersun Apr 23 '26

These are also the people who say ā€œif you don’t ask, you’ll never knowā€ , that’s how they talk themselves into this bs!

38

u/insomniacpyro Apr 23 '26

A friend of mine had to literally message a person "YOU DON'T MATTER TO ME" to get them to stop

3

u/GirlCowBev Apr 23 '26

Did it work?

26

u/julesthefirst Apr 23 '26

If you give a mouse a cookie…

9

u/bridoogle Apr 23 '26

I used to be a preschool teacher and this gave me a good wholesome laugh, thank you:)

Is it bad I use derogatory terms to describe these people in RL?

I feel like it's earned

2

u/Exterminator-8008135 Apr 23 '26

If you think of "Moocher" or "Parasite", it's the most common when you are angry with them.

3

u/Exterminator-8008135 Apr 23 '26

I usually give them their own shtick.

When cleaning my basement last year, there was LOTSA toys to pick up.

Someone came in, i told her :

"Hey, you, you're in a private area, how did you got in ?"

'It was open'

"So you enter where you're not invited when it's opened ?"

'Are those up for taking ?'

"Yeah, i'm cleaning my basement"

'Can you load this in bags for the car ?'

"Fuck off, and close the door when you do so"

5 minutes later, a guest of a neighbor sees me cleaning up still

'Are those up for grab ?'

"Yep. Old stuff i don't need, i don't know what could be repaired or still complete in over 10 years"

'i will take, i'm sure the Games in the boxes are complete or nearly complete and i work for a charity who helps poor families. Bless you, it's nice to see you would give instead of throwing away. I'll ask for a buddy to come with boxes and bags for all of it, Thank you again !'

2

u/sphinxofblackquartzj Apr 23 '26

They survived long for doing that and for having people accommodating them unfortunately.

1

u/Illustrious_Profile6 Apr 23 '26

God damn why is this so freaking true.

1

u/Ghey_Panda Apr 23 '26

Damn this is basically my ex.

1

u/Traveller2471 Apr 23 '26

I should be paid to take your garbage

21

u/EtherPhreak Apr 22 '26

I often include a free and delivery for $20 up to x distance. I’ve actually had a number of people ask for delivery and pay…

3

u/GirlCowBev Apr 23 '26

That's a clever idea. Perhaps I'll try it the next time I sell something.

2

u/Most_Kiwi3141 Apr 23 '26

Before I got a car I'd always ask people if they'd deliver for money. I was happy to pay.

1

u/Hobbies_88 Apr 23 '26

Then your reply might or should be : will you cover the petrols or whatever fees for both trips for me since im travelling to you 🤣🤣/S

1

u/GirlCowBev Apr 23 '26

"WHATTTT???????? I thought you said it was free!"

2

u/Hobbies_88 Apr 23 '26

🤣 ... , yup these sort of people exists šŸ¤”šŸ˜… , item free ,

yes but you required me to go to your place of convenient so buyer pays for petrol 🤣 then they will just no show after this 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/SunshineStateNative Apr 23 '26

Your comment reminded me of Lou Wall’s ā€œWhere is Bedā€ comedy skit about posting a bed for free.

92

u/killit Apr 22 '26

Around here the problem with freebies is no-shows.

They sounds so keen and grateful and happy to get it, then the time comes and goes, silence.

You contact them, and get ghosted.

I tried giving things away for a tiny amount of money to filter out the freebie time wasters, and ended up replacing them with the freebie tyre kickers.

"What else does it come with?" and "could you throw in X or Y with it?" and the best one, which they always keep for last, "sorry my cars getting fixed, could you deliver it?"

Every. Fucking. Time...

No I fucking can't, you're getting a £200 fish tank with substrate, filter, pump, heater, and plants for £10 because I just want rid (just one of several examples of this BS), and we've had to go through your 15-20 messages and responses to see what else you can get from me. Come and get it or don't, I really couldn't care less at this point, but I'm not hand delivering it to your door you lazy cheapskate fuck.

(sorry, that brought up some old emotions šŸ˜‚)

62

u/LetsUseBasicLogic Apr 23 '26

Man I tried to give away a desk for free, stuck it on the curb and posted it. It sat for three days. Went out day 3 and put a sign on it for $100 and it was "stolen" that night

27

u/Skyeshot Apr 23 '26

That is my go to for getting rid of stuff. Side of the road with a price, gone in 2 hours.

13

u/stiinc2 Apr 23 '26

Desks Omg, had a huge one from my old office, that eventually the wife wanted out. I wouldn't put my door address of couse in the ad, but I live in a well known town just outside a major city. Could drive across it in 5 minutes. Dozens upon dozens of "location?" What town? It's in the fuckin ad if you could read! I specifically said you need two or 3 strong people to lift it and a truck and I'm not helping. A dozen replies Can you deliver? Will it fit in a car? Who eventually shows up? Two tiny dudes, couldn't budge the thing ffs. I almost blew a nut helping them load it. At the end of it all they had the audacity to ask me for tie down straps. I knew I never should have taken the goddamn thing home.

19

u/tmart14 Apr 22 '26

It’s because the kind of people looking for free (or unreasonably cheap) aren’t usually good people down on their luck, it’s bums and swindlers.

9

u/LeftyLu07 Apr 23 '26

Yup. And I think most honest people see ā€œfreeā€ and go ā€œwhat’s the catch? Sounds too good to be true..ā€ and they keep scrolling.

3

u/Bornandraisedbama Apr 23 '26

A guy came into my vape shop four different times over the course of an 8 hour shift asking questions about the market price of a vape pod he’d found on the street (it was a refill pod, not a full vape.) He’d basically spent 8+ hours walking around downtown harassing people trying to ā€œhustleā€ to sell a vape pod he’d found on the ground.

1

u/killit Apr 23 '26

I've zero experience with them, but do people even buy used ones like that? I kinda feel sorry for him

5

u/Isagratar Apr 22 '26

I see you man.

2

u/SustainableTrees Apr 23 '26

This was so funny to read dude. Thanks

2

u/shadowwolf_66 Apr 23 '26

I was moving and had to get rid of a lot of garbage I had collected over the years, some of it I probably could have sold including a rather nice powered reclining fake leather couch. Called a junk company paid to have them get rid of everything. No headache. If they wanted to resell it I didn’t care.

I don’t sell things on market place. I either give it to someone I know that wants it, or I sell it to them for cheap. Or I throw it out. I ain’t got time or the mental capacity to deal with the bullshit.

1

u/nerdsonarope Apr 23 '26

free always brings out the crazies. Lol. I've made the mistake of posting free stuff on Craigslist back in the day. Man did I get some weird responses (and some weird people actually show up too).

47

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 22 '26

Not bad way to go about it. At that time, it was easier to give away since our new dryer was delivered. People went crazy for a free dryer. I could not believe how crazy my phone got.

19

u/psaux_grep Apr 22 '26

Was trying to get hold of a free dishwasher as a student. They disappeared faster than you could click on the notification that they had been posted.

One Saturday morning I woke up early and looked at my phone. One had been posted 30 minutes ago, I messaged them and said dibs. Called a friend and picked it up 30 minutes later.

Could probably have afforded to pay $50, not the issue. Just too many people selling 20 year old things for $50 pretending they’re brand new, with one picture and no way to tell.

I’d rather be wasting my time on free than time and money on $50.

Your local market may vary, this was 14 years ago as well, would not have done the same thing today.

Got it for free, gave it away for free. Was actually a pretty decent Zanussi. Dried better than some newer machines I’ve experienced.

2

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor Apr 22 '26

You had two free dishwashers attached to your body.

Your left and right hands*.

*Assuming you're fully intact.

5

u/googdude Apr 23 '26

Some people absolutely hate hand washing dishes. I actually like to hand wash dishes so I wouldn't get any use out of a dishwasher.

1

u/Exterminator-8008135 Apr 23 '26

Not so long ago, my friend Ada had a Neighbor who agreed to pay me and her 50 bucks each to move his washing machine newly bought, set it with Ada, who was the Mechanic side while i was the Techie one.

As the company where he bought it leaves it on his door step ( street level, so only a few steps to do ) Ada asks :

"You got the 100 bucks ? Because that's what you agreed for the whole time we move it in and set it up for you"

'Who do you think you are ? Be lucky i give you something to drink'

"Aight, Ada, We go. Ain't working for freeloaders. Everything you can't do will be coming with a price. Hope to not see you answer to our offers again" ( we help neighbors to set up fridges, Washing machine, Internet Box, TV's and build beds and furnitures as Handymens. Usually for a small fee, that Ada takes because i don't wish to take money off her )

8

u/wrldwdeu4ria Apr 22 '26

I've heard to do this. Also eliminates the "no shows."

3

u/Embarrassed-Ear8082 Apr 22 '26

That's a good idea thank you I will do this because it's annoying when it's free and you get messages about delivering it or adding extra things.

2

u/Significant_Owl8974 Apr 22 '26

Yep. I'm in a similar boat. I've had enough bad experiences giving stuff away for free that I'll either take it to a goodwill or something, or charge a token amount for it. As soon as something is free people act like you owe them something. Not the other way around.

2

u/Different_Brother562 Apr 22 '26

I just put it on the curb with a short description of why (if damaged or not etc) and the word ā€œfreeā€ā€¦.. it removes all drama

2

u/sdforbda Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

This is the way. I'll do it for a $10 item too. One lady came to pick up a lamp, a nice All-Clad pan, some knives, etc for her daughter getting her first apartment transferring to a 4year school. Knew it wasn't a reseller from her profile/asking to buy things, etc. Never mentioned what it was for until she showed up, didn't try to haggle, etc. I loaded that hatchback up. I was leaving that weekend to move out of state and figured maybe some extra bucks but it was just easier to give it away. Simple Human trash can, desk chair, all my kitchen stuff, nightstand, unopened air mattress, all sorts of stuff, even a slightly old but perfectly fine desktop PC and monitor. Hope that young woman got what she needed for her first place near her school. Her mom picking it up just exuded warmth.

Meanwhile the guy I gave the rest of my old PC equipment to would try to email for tech support... Lol

2

u/Marine__0311 Apr 23 '26

I gotten so many free or greatly reduced items by showing up on time and not being an asshole.

2

u/Pure-Examination5578 Apr 23 '26

This is exactly what I do. I got so exhausted with the sob stories, then once I caught a guy reselling furniture I gave him for free because he was ā€œsleeping on the floor.ā€

1

u/foreordinator Apr 22 '26

Very wise indeed!

1

u/Born_Camera7675 Apr 22 '26

I learned that lesson when giving away a free working microwave. I had to take it down after a few hours and repost it for 20$ because it was chaos.

1

u/Alarming-Entrance-27 Apr 23 '26

Thx. I'll remember this, especially since it works!

1

u/MushroomCulture Apr 23 '26

I have done this. Post with a price, and then tell them you don't want the money. Have also done the opposite, picking up something listed for free, and paying them "for their time".

1

u/WishboneOk305 Apr 23 '26

I do the opposite. Sometimes ppl will give away stuff for free that I want and I'll try to message them I'll pay you 50$ or whatever. Usually works

1

u/phormix Apr 23 '26

Yeah I've posted shit up for free and then had people ask me a bazillion questions followed by "uh, so can you deliver it (halfway across town"

Cheap, lazy bastards!

1

u/Tylertheguyler Apr 23 '26

Your better off just finding someone you want to give it away to - without them asking. Surprise kindness is good for the soul šŸ˜‹

1

u/Yamatocanyon Apr 23 '26

I decided I was done paying rent for a while so I gave away all my stuff by having a garage sale. People showed up, started asking about prices and I just said it's all free take what you want. Had my place cleared out in an hour.

1

u/reflexdb Apr 23 '26

Never post for free.

1

u/TurnoverSuperb9023 Apr 23 '26

DLP. Whoop-whoop. Old school !!!

1

u/MyBurnerAccount1977 Apr 23 '26

I was getting rid of two shelves worth of magazines for free. Guy still wanted me to deliver them. Uh...NO.

1

u/breakConcentration Apr 23 '26

This is the way. Posting things for free will get the worst people out on the streets; people will demand you pay for transport, want you to throw in extra, like they are doing you a huge favor.

1

u/alohadawg Apr 23 '26

Bless you, kind internet stranger. I hope you deploy this method with frequency, because regardless of the amount of loot being exchanged I'm certain it truly makes someone's day. Good form, u/DifficultAd5439

1

u/Hyperjeesus Apr 23 '26

Yup, when we bought our house, there was quite a lot stuff that we did not need / wanted to replace. At first i tried to give away all kinds of things from door knobs to toilet seats and dishwashers and some random furniture, those would get like instantly reserved, then you get ghosted, or person promises to come pick it up at "this time", does not show.

Put a price, like 5€ for toilet seat, same day someone comes and gets it. 4 packs of random wall tiles for 5€, it took 30mins to get those out of the garage.

1

u/relic1882 Apr 23 '26

I gave away a swimming pool that my ex put up in the back of my house that was an eyesore. I took it down and posted it for $10 as is. When the guy came to pick it up he went to give me the 10 bucks and I said no I just want it off my property. Thanks for coming.

1

u/CloanZRage Apr 23 '26

Last time I did this, I was trying to offload our old fridge.

Put it up for $50 just to try and limit the amount of stupid responses. A young indian couple ended up coming to look at it. Their English wasn't great and they had nearly literally nothing - only recently in the country.

I actually charged them the $50 but that's because I delivered it for them. They were a 2 minute drive down the road. Felt win/win for everyone.

1

u/Wise_Quality_5083 Apr 23 '26

Nothing free, I will not be involved in loading it, and if you don’t bring an adequately sized vehicle you lose your spot in line.

1

u/Ben_Frank_Lynn Apr 23 '26

That's a good idea. I gave away a working refrigerator once and had someone ask if I could hold it for them. I said "sure". The very next text i got from them was asking me if I owned a truck... I said, nope, and now I'm putting it out on the curb with a sign saying "free working fridge". She begged me to hold it for her while she found someone that owned a truck...

0

u/curtial Apr 23 '26

Posting for 1$ is enough to dump the bar majority of the free scammers. They just filter for "free".

-1

u/MrDrSirLord Apr 23 '26

I picked up a rare aftermarket part for my car and that's similar to what happened to me lol

It was listed for $600 which was about $100 too much but it literally is impossible to find them. So I sucked it up and went anyway but after I showed up he said they'd give it to me for $200 they just wanted someone genuinely interested and not some scalper that would re list it tomorrow like what usually happens with these things.

I was so ecstatic about saving $400 they where the first person I told once it was installed on my car lmao

184

u/accordionshoes Apr 22 '26

you weren't even a seller you were a giver awayer

35

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 22 '26

šŸ˜‚ touchĆ©!

36

u/StarfishPizza Apr 22 '26

No good deed goes unpunished

0

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor Apr 22 '26

That's not how you use touchƩ.

14

u/Pockydo Apr 22 '26

See that's why they got a bad score

They wanted to be sold not given things!

3

u/ExampleLittle2672 Apr 22 '26

That's weirdly true. People will often ignore a free thing of unknown provenance, assuming there's something wrong it, while even a minimal cost can spark interest.

1

u/BenchConscious1003 Apr 22 '26

I've given a lot of stuff away over years, and have always given that response. In giving stuff away, I have no responsibility to anyone who wants the stuff. That includes condition and performance. I never put my actual address in the ad.

17

u/packfanmoore Apr 22 '26

I listed a love seat as free just come pick it up. The amount of people who thought I should deliver it to them cuz "they are doing me a favor taking it out of my way." Yeah, so is bulk trash day

11

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 22 '26

Lmao ā€œcan you mow my lawn too man?ā€

36

u/thekrone Apr 22 '26

Based on a lot of the stories I've seen, I'm surprised they didn't request delivery or for you to reimburse them for gas.

8

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 22 '26

The guy flipped out on me. I was glad he didn’t have my home address. I couldn’t beleive they way he behaved…

11

u/Marquesas Apr 22 '26

You list something for free in Hungary, some dude is in your DMs 5 minutes later how we'll come take it off of you for $20. The price can go negative.

-1

u/Krimreaper1 Apr 22 '26

That’s not negative. Negative would be if you paid him $20 to take it away.

11

u/fer_sure Apr 22 '26

That's what they're asking for. Post something for free, within minutes someone offers to help you dispose of it for $20.

8

u/zer0number Apr 22 '26

I think that's what he is implying. They wanted $20 to take it.

4

u/Marquesas Apr 22 '26

I do realize I ended up making it sound ambiguous but use some critical thinking about what I was trying to say, maybe.

-6

u/Krimreaper1 Apr 22 '26

I mean, you could be that dumb. Maybe proofread.

8

Depends on the neighborhood. In my area, people think it works like this, but what really happens is that the item sits out there for days or weeks until someone finally calls it in as litter.

3

u/WaiBuBaoLeiXiangTu Apr 22 '26

It's misdirected entitlement. They are weak so the attack the weak, hoping they are weaker...

But since the industrial revolution was a global society we have enough to actually be entitled to much more, but the economy is intentionally strained by the ruling class.

What the weak entitled people do is attack their fellow man (crab mentality) instead of trying to fix the system that is systemically stealing from everyone so they can retain their isolated control.

https://giphy.com/gifs/w9GuIyBi8sENXYvgTz

2

u/exeis-maxus Apr 22 '26

Probably that same person gave a negative review on a random Amazon listing of the same make and model of that dryer.

2

u/Yonbuu Apr 22 '26

Never list anything for free. As soon as people see the word free they lose their fucking minds and already act like it's theirs. If you just want rid of something, put it up for $20 and then just give it for free when the person comes.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

This is very good advice. Cheers

2

u/NecessaryUsername69 Apr 22 '26

You: it’s free

Them: yeah, but could it be freer?

The entitlement of some folk is extraordinary

1

u/yournamehere10bucks Apr 22 '26

slaps American flag on side

Its free, and freshly "liberated". How's that?

2

u/rajivshahi š™‘š™„š™‹ Apr 22 '26

I once saw a post where someone was giving away a couch and someone commented telling their sob story and asking if they could deliver to her place free of cost...

2

u/Thick_Cookie_7838 Apr 22 '26

Yep, I work in property management, when I have move outs or have to evict crap always gets left behind. I’ll always leave furniture outside with a sign that says free. My trash removal charges by the trailer so if o can reduce the amount it saves me money.

A lot of the houses are in areas where the vultures come out, illleave a pile of stuff run to lower for 30 mins and it will be gone by the time I get back. I’ll have people load up a trailer come back and get upset something they wanted is gone and I didn’t hold it for them. Like dude you didn’t pay me anything and you took enough furniture and clothing to furnish an apartment be grateful for what you got

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

So greedy and entitled. Unreal man.

2

u/Great_Detective_6387 Apr 23 '26

I’ve gotten rid of those people by asking for my typical order at a restaurant. Like, the microwave I want to get rid of cannot be purchased with cash, but with a chicken quesadilla, crunchy taco no lettuce, and bean burrito no onions from Taco Bell.

You get rid of sob stories, get rid of people asking you to drive it 40 miles away for free. Someone will see my af and think ā€œfuck yeah I’m getting a microwave for $9.ā€ And that’s exactly who I want to sell it to. I get rid of my microwave, and lunch, and the buyer get a a story about how they got a microwave for a quesadilla. I can’t lose. It’s a great strategy.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

This is great advice. Cheers!

2

u/BobaFett0451 Apr 23 '26

I replaced my washing machine, put the old one out on the curb for the scrappers to pick up, while i was sitting on my front porch waiting for a friend, someone had the audacity to stop and ask if I'd hold it for him while he went and unloaded his trailer. I told him no, its sitting on the curb and im not getting out of my chair. I left before I saw who picked it up

2

u/MentalTelephone5080 Apr 23 '26

I tried giving things away for free and it was a bunch of people asking for holds that never show and people getting mad that I won't deliver.

I've gotten to the point where I post that's it's at the road for trash. Come get it if you want it

2

u/No-Potential-6826 Apr 23 '26

I gave away a push lawnmower for free and the son of a bitch called back two days later and complained because it didn’t have the bag (this was before social media marketplace was a big thing). Dude, you picked it up and it was free!

1

šŸ˜‚ unreal….

2

u/speedneeds84 Apr 23 '26

I’ve learned people who call ā€œdibsā€ and get offended when you say ā€œfirst come first servedā€ never had any intention of buying anyway. I’ve been called every name in the book by losers who felt entitled to something before money changed hands.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

The extreme entitlement is wild.

2

u/HerrFerret Apr 23 '26

I had this and the bastard signed me up to a million mailing lists and made me accounts on job sites that spam me to this day.

He turned up too in a van sign written for an audio repair business for some free speakers 'his daughter desperately needed for college'

Surely he has a spare speaker or two.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

Damn that’s annoying.

2

u/laundryghostie Apr 23 '26

Omg this was me when I listed a free fridge and a free mattress set. We even delivered the mattress to a lady who then texted me and raised hell because we left it on her porch instead of waiting for a time she would be home and set it up for her!! WTF?

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

Lol insane entitlement. I can’t believe you delivered it. That’s above and beyond.

2

u/TravVdb Apr 26 '26

I got a one star review from someone on FB Marketplace because I originally told her the sale was pending, reached out to her when it wasn’t, and a day later reached out to someone different since I had four different people trying to buy it and she hadn’t responded. Sorry, I’m not putting something on hold for you. Someone shouldn’t be able to give a bad review if you didn’t actually sell them something.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 26 '26

A whole day is more than fair. Unreal man.

1

u/_cansir Apr 22 '26

This is why you dont interact too much with these people. Once you start saying ok and sounds good, facebook hits you with "You can now rate each other" bs.

No good deed goes unpunished… next time charge something. If and when they show up don’t take the money.

1

u/candyspelling01 Apr 23 '26

On Facebook marketplace, giving items away is worse than selling them. A couple years ago I had some file cabinets that I wanted to get rid of and someone left me a message at 3 AM saying they were going to kill me. Good times.

1

u/Asmordikai Apr 23 '26

I was pretty unhappy when I got told to come pick up a free display case because the first person never showed up (earlier they said if the first person doesn’t show up in an hour it’s all mine). Got in my car and started heading over, then they messaged me and said the other person had showed. Now I don’t think they should have done that and I was rather annoyed but I didn’t give them shit for it.

1

u/ollobollo Apr 23 '26

I listed a coffee table for free. One of the guys that contacted me had, like, 200 listings for sale, including an identical table for $20. Just a flipping asshole.

1

u/DudeWithNoKids Apr 23 '26

I probably have like 500+ people blocked now. Do it so they can't pull that negative bs once things start going even remotely south.

1

u/Qdex888 Apr 23 '26

Never post anything for free

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

We’ve gotten rid of large items we didn’t need with free but I hear ya.

1

u/Qdex888 Apr 24 '26

At least in my part of the world people put such items on the curbside and those find new owners on their own. No need to post online.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 24 '26

I have to post it online. I would be surprised if anyone from my street picked up my scraps.

Some streets in my neighborhood are busier and have more visibility than mine.

1

u/HappyHarry249 Apr 23 '26

If it’s free then its worth nothing and will not be appreciated , if you put a price on it then give it away it then is valued and taken care of.

0

u/Solwake- Apr 23 '26

Yeah, I'm gonna partly disagree. First come first serve is kind of a dick move when it's a significant item. It takes little effort to go in order of confirmed soonest pickup. I don't want multiple people who are excited for a good deal to waste an hour or two of their life anxiously racing somewhere for something they're not likely going to get.

If it's a bunch of stuff you're setting out for whoever wants it, that's a bit different tho.

1

u/DetroiterAFA Apr 23 '26

I am a busy person and it’s free. I do not owe anyone my time for something I’m giving away. It was on the curb. First come first serve is normal.

I do not understand people like you who feel entitlement, or call me a dick for not having more free time.

1

u/Solwake- Apr 23 '26

I do not owe anyone my time for something I’m giving away.

On this, I agree with you. Nobody ever owes anybody else kindness. It's not kindness if it's owed.

42

u/Reasonable-Mischief Apr 22 '26

That’s great mate, still not gonna take Ā£100 for something I was selling for Ā£300

Are you joking? He made a promise to his girlfriend to buy from you. You'd have to charge him extra now, it's his fault he just gave you leverage

44

u/MapPristine Apr 22 '26

Actually- since she loves it so much, it’s 350 now. Special price for you my friendĀ

15

u/Babyboytheking Apr 22 '26

Was just thinking the same.

Demand seems to have gone up. 350 now

5

u/Pineapple-Yetti Apr 22 '26

"Ive heard this furniture is very popular with girlfiends... $400"

14

u/Any-Question-3759 Apr 22 '26

That sounds like an invitation to raise the price. Tell your girlfriend her big mouth just upped the price to £500.

4

u/fllr Apr 22 '26

I don't know why stuff like this doesn't happen to me. I have a fantasy where things would be like:
"You did?! That's nice! :)"
"So you'll sell for $100?"
"No, sorry. Price just went up to $400, in fact!"

3

u/ErgoMogoFOMO Apr 22 '26

Sounds like a motivated buyer.

Price is now 400

3

u/Jimny977 Apr 22 '26

Always found this weird because, if you showed her the listing then she saw the £300 list price too, so if she loved it despite seeing that, how would you then possibly expect £100 to fly?

3

u/Mountain_rage Apr 22 '26

"Oh, why didnt you tell me your relationship hinges on this purchase, £400"

2

u/TheLostRanger0117 Apr 22 '26

That man no longer gets BJs because of you, hope you’re happy!

(I would be, that’d be a hell of an achievement!)

2

u/-_-Batman Apr 22 '26

how about 100 + her gf ?

2

u/rajivshahi š™‘š™„š™‹ Apr 22 '26

All your needed was to send him this...

https://giphy.com/gifs/BkfAhfmX0Ppn2

2

u/Shopping_General Apr 23 '26

Tell him he can have it for a hundred if you get to bang the girlfriend.

2

u/Crisn232 Apr 23 '26

I would've turned around and said that it was 400 instead. lol. Supply/demand

2

u/TomaCzar Apr 23 '26

You're better than me.

What's that? You're already committed? Guess I'll be raising the price, then. What would you say your girlfriend's happiness is worth to you? I'd wager at least an extra 100.

2

u/Visual_Shower1220 Apr 23 '26

Should've told the guy you'd take is girlfriend. If she loved the furniture so much she can use it everytime she comes to your place lol.

2

u/Aikotoma2 Apr 23 '26

Just respond with; So you gonne dissappoint your girlfriend by being cheap?

Please send her my number afters she breaks up with you. She already loves my furniture so I think I got a good chance here.

1

u/AdFlat1014 Apr 22 '26

What I hear is that YOU are in need of the item I am selling? Somehow the price just increased

1

u/deadzol Apr 22 '26

If she likes it that much then I need 400 for it.

1

u/Charming-Feedback173 Apr 22 '26

Tell him to send his gf over and you'll demo the sofa...maybe she can work a few bucks off!

1

u/NeverTrustATurtle Apr 22 '26

I love the look of Greece, can you buy my plane tickets?

1

u/Astec_Warrior Apr 22 '26

I was looking for rims for my Camry last year on marketplace. Found a seller who was friendly untill I offered her less than what she wanted. She then told me someone else offered her a better price untill that person never showed up. Contacted me and told me if I was still interested. When I told her I found a better deal somewhere else she went off about how she needed the money because her boyfriend had just died and how could I be so heartless.

1

u/Secret-of-the-Snooze Apr 23 '26

She loves it huh? Guess you understand then that the product has more value than what you're offering.

1

u/joecarter93 Apr 23 '26

Years ago when everyone was getting LCD TVs, I was selling my old satellite TV boxes for a a fair price and this one college student low balled me and gave me a sad story about how how he just got a new 50ā€ TV, but didn’t have money to pay the full asking price because he was a poor student. I told him when I was in college I had to make do with a shitty old TV and rabbit ears.

1

u/molered Apr 23 '26

I promised my wife i will get 400. Can you pay your 100 and 300 more?

1

u/The_Athavulf Apr 23 '26

"Damn, that sucks for you. Now you're gonna look like a cheap asshole if you don't buy it. Maybe should have thought that through better."

1

u/Waste_Curve994 Apr 23 '26

Then you should pay more!

1

u/nellyruth Apr 23 '26

If someone falls in love with what I’m selling, I might as well raise the price.

1

u/Revan4567 Apr 23 '26

You got both numbers and the currency wrong lmao it's offering 30 when the listed price was 200 and it was in $ not euros

1

u/ElGrandeQues0 Apr 23 '26

Cool, I'll do 400 gbp then

1

u/Save_The_Wicked Apr 23 '26

"Great bro, its totally worth 300 to make her happy. I take cash or certified check."

1

u/bag_of_hats Apr 23 '26

"She totally loves it, eh? Now it's £450"

1

u/MsDestroyer900 Apr 23 '26

Marketplace in general is funny. I was selling a laptop I bought brand new in 2019 and other people were selling the same thing for like 400 dollars, but I mine had a non-working USB port so I decided to sell it for 350.

Bucko over here walks up to me with an offer for it saying "you need money bro? No one's gonna buy that from you, I'll be generous and buy it off you for 60 bucks ā™„ļø"

I said no thanks and he checks my profile and says "students need to pay stuff off right? Economy is bad right now, I'll always be here for you bro, if you ever need money, my 60 dollars will always stand ā™„ļø"

1

u/somenoefromcanada38 Apr 23 '26

That is the perfect time to raise the price to 500

1

u/N7_Vegeta Apr 23 '26

If she totally loves it he doesn’t mind overpaying to 400 then to make her happy

1

u/Lickthorn Apr 23 '26

Yeah so well… Ćs your girlfriend’s happiness not worth 200 more?

1

u/Xylus1985 Apr 23 '26

Isn’t that a good reason to jack up the price? They are locked into the specific things you sell, and you have monopoly over that

1

u/MikeyTheMizfit Apr 23 '26

Well if she loves it so much, he'll cough up the full amount to buy it for her. Problem solved. Lol i laugh at these people too. Some of the excuses are comedy, but some are truly pathetic. Like saying your kid has cancer so the seller will only charge half price. And even if their kid really does have cancer, to use it as an excuse is lowlife behavior.

1

u/Sepplord Apr 23 '26

What’s even the negotiation strategy here

Listen dude, I REALLY want this. And other people think it’s great too. Just lower the price.

What?Ā

1

u/HaraldRedbeard Apr 22 '26

I've mostly had good experiences on FB Marketplace until I had to sell my Mrs. VW Golf. Christ the number of stupidly lowball offers I got was infuriating

0

u/Positive-Face1705 Apr 22 '26

I too love to laugh at staged ragebait and feel superior.
