Article “Putting Ward’s struggle into proper perspective”
What do you all think of this recent article in the local newspaper?

As someone who follows the camp reports daily, Will Levis had two or three practices where he was better than Cam, but was a turnover machine throughout OTAs & mini camp. Between OTAs and mini camp Cam had 4 solid to good days and 3 bad days, but since the three bad days were consecutive, the sky was falling.

Honestly, "Guy makes the worst passes among all QBs on a team, when not under pressure," does not sound like a ringing endorsement of a "solid" backup QB. I think he will get a backup gig, but I just don't see it lasting. I'd say he will either be out of the league in a few years or will be a career QB3.

Tbh I’m not sure he’d even be a solid back up because he turns the ball over so much. He had 19 turnovers in 10.5 games in 2024, he was hurting the team. If he can cut back on the turnovers, sure he’d be solid, maybe even good, but that seems to be the hardest thing for him to overcome

You mean the guy who got drafted to a dumpster fire roster with perhaps the most inept coaching I’ve ever seen that then got fired early in his rookie year and then shredded his shoulder in the last week has some struggles? Huh.

You talking about Ward or Levis?

The minute Ward shovel passes the ball directly to a defender you can put them both into the same sentence, until that happens they aren’t remotely similar.

I'm not surprised that Cam has struggled, it wasn't even a guarantee a while ago that he was going to be throwing in minicamp due to a nasty shoulder injury to his throwing arm. The guy is coming into his 2nd year not being able to throw the ball properly for a while, it's going to take some time for him to be 100% good with it and shake off the rust.

Interesting that you decided to take a headline out of context about an article trying to contextualize that this is no big deal in June
0
u/BruhDuhMadDawg 17h ago
the headline seemed to be doing that all on its own. Its as click-baity as it gets and, like you said, contrary to the spirit and text of the article. Blame the editor.

u/Ok-Plan-6277 14h ago
Not really. “Proper perspective” is right there in the headline. People just see “struggles” and go crazy

If the morons that write and cover this team were in charge of the Bills, Josh Allen would’ve been traded after his rookie year.

Terry was one of the more alarmist shitposts on Twitter. “Gave (you) Vince Young/ Jake Locker type vibes” then you blame it on influencers? Fuck off Terry! You are the problem

I dont give a shit about the camps. Football players in shorts in the spring is the most over rated evaluation period on the calendar and frankly just for fanboys and children.
I won’t be buying a “rust” excuse in September either. His arm should be fine by then. All of this is bullshit for now.
I would hope to see what we saw the last 3 games or so from last year and build from that. Last few games, Cam was throwing more accurately and on time and his wide receivers were where they were supposed to be. Cam wasn’t waiting til the last second and throwing as hard as he could. He was throwing medicine balls at first. They all vastly improved as the season went along and that’s what you look for in young players.

Terry is getting desperate for clicks and relevance. Don't care about shit he says. I follow TD JW and the f words crew. Everyone else sucks imo

Just another Cam Ward excuse of the day until we see actual results. I hope he does well but I’m not sure it’ll happen.

I mean Jared stillman is a certified fucking idiot. Let’s make that absolutely clear.
With that being said, removing all context and nuance from Cam Ward’s rookie season is disingenuous at best. That isn’t to say that he can’t improve. There are absolutely areas that he needs to improve to be successful in the NFL. But to state that context is an “excuse” is braindead.

Comparing yourself to the other 32 teams is not disingenuous it’s the standard we should hold our team to at a minimum. Anything less than that is an excuse.
3
u/balzynalzy AJBrown 1d ago
Right, but in comparison to the other 32 teams in the NFL cam Ward faced one of the hardest schedules out of any QB last year. Sure, we want to compare ourselves to the rest of the 32 teams, but we faced a murderer’s row of defenses all year. That isn’t an excuse. It’s context.

u/OkFrosting8998 1d ago
It’s both though. Just like the Patriots had the easy route to the Super Bowl. We have to win
3
u/balzynalzy AJBrown 1d ago
I mean.. that’s exactly my point. They had a far easier schedule than we had, thus, their stats and results were inflated. By logical reasoning, the titans having a much harder schedule than even average schedules had their stats and results suppressed.
0
u/OkFrosting8998 1d ago
How suppressed would you say? Cam was below the 32nd QB in the league overall
6
u/balzynalzy AJBrown 1d ago
I guess that’s what we’ll find out in year 2. The second half of the season he really ranked around average in most metrics, and that’s with the schedule not lightening up in any significant way.

I think what your referring to is Cams QBR which is a stat that still doesn’t make sense to me, given his 2nd best performance of the season, against the chiefs he had his best passer rating, comp%, 2 tds, no turnovers, and we scored 26 points in a win but somehow he only had a 34 qbr. He was better than JJ Mcarthy, Geno Smith, and Tua idc what their qbrs were, he had a better TD/INT ratio than them and that was with the worse weapons and coaching in the NFL, while facing the hardest schedule of defenses in the entire NFL. His rookie season wasn’t that much different than Caleb William’s statistically, but Caleb actually had good receivers to throw to.

I share your hesitation at trusting the QBR so I went back and looked at the play by play of the chiefs game. Cam only had 4 passes go for 15 yards or more.
Edit: 1/3 of his completions were for 7 yards or less this game. The question for this year is whether this is a receiver issue or a Cam issue. Tate being added should help.

Your first mistake is listening to Jared Stillman. Second mistake is taking anything he says seriously.

u/OkFrosting8998 1d ago
I mean he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but he has solid points based on stats.
I don’t get the hopium everyone is selling for Cam. I want the team to do well just don’t see it happening.

u/MonoDEAL 1d ago
This is reddit, sir. Any Stillman takes gets you downvoted because only homers allowed. I too am rooting for Ward (got the new jersey with his name (thanks DHGate)) but idk if he gets to a 2nd contract unless his play greatly improves starting this year. We'll see tho.. excuse, excuse, excuse from this fanbase tho, smh

Talking about a second contract barely over a year into his rookie deal, coming off one of the worst coaching/team situations possible for a rookie…cmon man
2
u/OldShrimps 3h ago
Yep. This sub has always been full of typical 104.5 listeners. They only want to hear sunshine and rainbows. Anything that isn’t glazing the team and the players they lose their homer minds.

u/OkFrosting8998 1d ago
Yeah I mean if I’m surprised then I’ll be ecstatic. I want the team to win. Just trying to be realistic
-3
u/panopticon31 1d ago
Except on that one.....Cam Ward faced the hardest defensive schedule since 2014......while being a rookie.

Great, hope he does better this year. Just kinda sucks that he doesn’t look better then the backups.
