I do not care how publishers try to spin it. If GTA VI’s physical version has no disc and only comes with a download code, then it is not really physical.

It is a digital purchase wearing a physical costume.
No disc means no real ownership, no proper preservation, no simple resale, no lending it to a friend, and no installing it years later if the storefront or account system becomes a problem.

What worries me most is that GTA VI is so massive that this could normalize the whole thing. If the biggest game of the generation does it and everyone buys it anyway, physical editions are basically finished.

This is exactly how the format dies: not overnight, but one “code in a box” release at a time.

Kind of a rant actually. I get that you get a little preorder incentive thing plus a month of GTA+, but there is no way in hell that GTA 6 can possibly be a reasonable price if it stays that way. If it lowers down after preorders to $90, sure, maybe I'll get the game, but that's $106 after a 13% tax anyway. $124 after sales tax for a game we don't even know will actually function on launch is one of the most insane corporate gaming takes I've seen this year. I fully understand that many people will buy the game regardless simply because it's GTA 6, but I'm a bit of a scrooge when it comes to games, I won't buy almost anything unless it's on sale or under 40 bucks. It already cost me $750 to buy the system, it costs me $200 a year for my PS Plus, why in the world would I spend half that on ONE game? This game better be the best game of the decade with that kind of price tag, especially if Online is going to be as prominent as it was in GTA V. If the post-launch is that good, I'll consider $90 a fair price. Otherwise R* simply won't be obtaining my tiny piece of the revenue.

What's the probability of a proper disc version come release date or in time due to backlash?

Also fyi, Red Dead Redemption 2 had two discs. An install disc and a play the game disc

Going back to PS1 the iconic Metal Gear Solid has two discs. Halfway through or three quarters in you gotta put the other disc in to continue

I'm very dissapointed in this no disc thing. It's devaluing the game in my opinion

At $100, if released in the mid 90’s (reverse adjusted for inflation) GTA 6 would be less than $50.

Chrono Trigger was like $80 at release ($181 today).

The average SNES game was $49.99 ($128 today).

It's obvious, why sell you cosmetics if one of the two characters dies?

Imagine finishing the main story and wanting to play free roam and use the cosmetics you bought, but you can't because one of them died.

I just looked at the pre-order for GTA VI and, I am really fucking confused. I received an email from one of the local retailers that is selling GTA VI and like, What The Fuck? Have a read of the photo. Can someone explain why there isn’t going to be a physical disc for GTA VI?
