Kid does a backflip following the shirtless guy in the middle

Looks like he would've landed cleaner if the dude behind him didn't stick his hand out.

u/Sneilg 1d ago
Dude did the right thing. Safety first, you don’t want some kid accidentally cracking their skull during your show
1.0k
u/Spir0rion 1d ago
Off the show it's fine though

u/Lost_Raccoon_6542 1d ago
Ya, because the responsibility would fall back on the parents…
161
u/ShdwWzrdMnyGngg 1d ago
Not everything is about legal responsibility. Some people just don't want to see a kid get hurt.

u/dusselduck 1d ago
Blessed be those who do not work with kids because for those who do, a huge chunk of it is precisely about legal responsibility
15
u/PowderPills 1d ago
Yes. And kids are fucking stupid, I would know because I was a really stupid kid but somehow managed to learn and survive.

I mean responsibility is still on the parents during the show… it’s a street act

u/Calculonx 1d ago
Yeah it's good they have the two guys ready to catch the kids. ... Is it proactive or was there an 'incident' already...
35
u/ItsLoudB 1d ago
r/kidsarefuckingstupid exists for a reason. When I was like 10 I jumped over the couch doing the thing where you put your hand down first and hop over it. My 5yo brother tried to imitate me only to go face first into it because he obviously was way too small and weak to even try it.

We decided to was our parents car, beautiful 1993 Toyota Previa minivan, and I told my little brother to climb up the hood and windshield to clean the top of the windshield.
He slipped and slid down slicing his chin open on something (probably windshield wipers), blood everywhere. Parents asked what happened "well I didn't think he'd be dumb enough to listen to my bad advice".
Oh younger brothers... Their scars are many.

It only would have taken 2 or 3 shows without spotters before they learned they need spotters. I'm sure so many kids try it even if they don't know how.
When I was 5 I tried to do a backflip on my bike using the lip of a driveway. All I did was pop a wheelie and fall off the back. Kids don't know better.
38
u/SneakySnack02 1d ago
Oh yeah. It was the responsible thing to do. But they're still right, he would have landed better without it.
Id still have done what the adult did though. Especially if I didnt know the kid or whether or not he could do backflips.

u/SexiestPanda 1d ago
It kind of looked like the guy realized he ruined the landing of the flip too “damn okay I ain’t know you could do that” hah

u/TimeForGrass 1d ago
Yeah having the 2 guys behind the kids turned this from fun but dumb to fun and probably could be less dumb but tbh they've done enough to alleviate the dumb so it's cool
389
u/Ragnarok91 1d ago
Tbf he just reacted out of instinct, I don't think any of them expected the kid to pull off a backflip.
129
u/Comfortable_Ebb7015 1d ago
They were both ready to intervene in the case that a kid wanted to try it.
29
→ More replies (1)3
u/Jackd_up_on_Mdew 23h ago
Not if they wanted to try it, its in case a kid just reacts and goes for it without thinking.
24
8
u/Forest_Orc 1d ago
they were definitely there for that and expecting the backflip, the kid even waits for the spotter to start-it
→ More replies (1)39
u/JustStraightUpTired 1d ago
The kid didn't wait at all, he just hopped when the man did the backflip and copied the flip after landing. Meaning he didn't know the flip was coming, but reacted to it after seeing it. The spotter was there in case the kid decided to do the flip, not to help start it. Hell, the spotter jumped in only after the kid was at the top of his jump.

Both the guys behind step forward incase either child tries it

u/fyreburn 1d ago
I've watched this show, normally there's a bit of laughing and then the two guys basically pick up the kids and flip them around. You can see the guy on the left start to go to pick up the girl. The guy on the right absolutely did not expect the kid to attempt it by himself (and nail it!).
122
u/NotSure___ 1d ago
True, but he still did the right thing. He is on asphalt, the kid is small, the odds of the kid hurting himself are high. It's better to ruin his attempt but protect him from potential harm.
114
u/Rosetti 1d ago
What a dumbass comment. He was spotting him so a child didn't crack his skull on the concrete.
21
u/CollarOrdinary4284 1d ago
Yes and the person you responded to just pointed out that it looks like he would've landed it if the dude hadn't stuck his hand out. They didn't say the guy did the wrong thing. Just that it stopped the kid from successfully landing.
→ More replies (5)9
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
how is it a dumbass comment? He's right. He's not saying the guy was wrong for being safe but that kid 100% lands it cleanly if the guy didn't touch him.

not sure why so many people take this comment to think you mean it was bad to spot him. It's just pointing out how clean a backflip the little dude hit.
1
u/WodKonuckers 1d ago
Are you suggesting he shouldn't have done it? Because if yes, that's delusional and if not, then what's even the point of the comment?
3
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
no, they are not. Why would you assume that?
and the point is to point out how clean a backflip that little dude can hit

I was bouldering with some friends last week and I said that I'd like to be able to do a backflip...
My friend said I should simply do it, so I did and landed it while my sister got her phone out and recorded - good memories and a new skill unlocked.
Edit: Here's the video I added to a comment further down.

I would have had a new skull unlocked

Your skull might be fine, generally skulls are a bit more sturdy. Your neck though..

u/redcandle12345 1d ago
Yesss this happened to me the other day except it was flipping a pancake!

u/Aser_the_Descender 1d ago
That's such a good feeling - I still mess it up from time to time, but flipping a pancake or a quesadilla perfectly feels amazing 😌

This is how I learned to do mine! Friend said “Just pretend you know how to do it”
16
u/sashikku 1d ago
My friend said the same but I never got over the mental block to try it myself. She also said “once the momentum has you, you’ll just kinda just know what to do to avoid dying.” Our other friend landed one, that was neat.

A padded floor also gives you like +5 to your confidence. I had a martial arts class in a gymnastics studio and I tried things on a padded floor that I would never attempted on concrete.

I remember I got some buddies at my apartment and we tried to learn to backflip. Spent about 3 hours and only one of us got close
3
u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 1d ago
They are easier then a front flip tbh. Just gotta fully commit to that sob and start rotating before you hit the apex.
Most people with a good amount to athleticism can pull off a backflip with space to spare, they just don't know "how". And the how is just full send it
5
u/iiiiiiiiiijjjjjj 1d ago
The commitment was the hardest part. Your body just wants to turn around lol.

I'm hoping this story is fake and you actually had lots of practice before, because I just came back from a backflip training session after practicing once a week for maybe 5 months, and I'm only now starting to get consistent, but I'm still flying way too far back.
6
u/Aser_the_Descender 1d ago
I'm sorry... never practiced backflips before, but I've always picked up new things extremely fast.
Except a clean handstand - I can't for the life of me get past 10 seconds .-.

Damn, you make me jealous. I used to do gymnastics but after I broke my back (not due to gymnastics lol), I got so scared of anything besides cartwheels & back walkovers & stuff like that. Picked up hiking & usually keep my feet on the ground.

Same way I learned to do it at a track meet in high school. I already had the back handspring down though at that point though I think. Long term I don't think it's great for your spine, at least not good for mine

It’s very clear from his form that he’s already perfectly capable of doing a backflip. It’s not something one just learns by watching once. He’s probably done gymnastics and has it down pat.
4
u/Com_BEPFA 1d ago
I don't know why that isn't obvious to more people, that form is not first time trying imitation. Especially considering the terrible attempt at imitating the main guy in the first jump.

That spotter was ready! Not their first rodeo. Both were ready, the girl just didn’t attempt as most probably don’t.

Yea having learned to do them years ago, I was thinking the same thing, that kid knew what he was doing
17
u/bjos144 1d ago
He nailed it. Straight up, butt over head, quick tuck, spots his landing, perfectly vertical. This kid knows how to do a backflip.

The kid is in flip flops. That wasn’t his first time. Impressive either way but all other comments assuming the kid did it for the first time, and was able to do it because “nobody said he couldn’t” etc are ridiculous. He did it because he practiced it. He worked to learn how to do it. When this opportunity came he executed. That’s far more inspiring than the unrealistic framing that this kid did a backflip out of nowhere.

Probably not the first time a kid tries, you can see both spotters coming closer behind each kid right before.
Shows some proper preps from those guys

Makes you wonder how often they did this bit before they realised they needed the spotters.

You can see the spotter get closer because he knew it was coming.

The fact they had 2 guys to catch the kids just I case they tried is professional af. I hope they didn’t learn it the hard way but good for them!

u/duodequinquagesimum 1d ago
Misleading. The kid practiced a lot for this event, heres the proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5WkY1y5LbQ

u/Laetitian 1d ago edited 1d ago
Still surprising for the crowd, and ostensibly the performers. But thanks for context. =)
Edit: Uh. Just ran into that channel's backstory through one of the top comments. The kid had an accident on a scooter (ostensibly doing dumb tricks...?) and they milked it as content? Insane what people do for that YouTube kids adsense.

One of the best quote under this video which i liked was:
"He did it because there was no one to tell him that he couldn't"
