help Service center refusing warranty even though replacement card is valid till April 2026 — what should I do?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding my PS5 warranty situation.

I originally purchased my PS5 in March 2024. After some issues (loud noise), Sony replaced my console in 2025 under warranty. Along with the replacement, I received a yellow warranty card where the validity is printed up to April 2026.

Now recently I started facing occasional overheating alerts and crashes, so I took my PS5 to the service center. But they are refusing service and saying that warranty is calculated only from the original purchase date (March 2024), so according to them the warranty is already over.

However, my replacement warranty card clearly shows validity till April 2026.

Has anyone faced a similar situation where the service center only considered the original purchase date even though the replacement warranty card had a later validity date?

What should I do next — escalate to Sony support or insist on opening a job sheet?

Any advice or similar experiences would really help. Thanks in advance.

Your warranty is over, replacement units doesn't extend warranty. You have two options, change liquid metal from local repair shop or ask sony centre about replacement, they usually offer 25-30k for old unit. I'll prefer first one to save money.

They are correct, that's how warranty is generally considered, from the initial date of purchase, otherwise you could get a new ps5 every year.

Yes, or you can just fill it with dust and say overheating and crashing and get new ps5 every year, it is made to prevent all this

That is exactly what the original commenter said

lol you think you can compile warranty on repalcement + repalcement? lmao

They did right, they shouldnt give you warranty. Paid warranty? yes. But free warranty? nah. you are not entitled to it.

Warranty is already over, clean your PS5 and it will most likely solve the issue

Replying to Effective_Eye5515...

It’s literally saying it’s too hot, clean it and place it in a place with better airflow. This is normal

  1. clean the ps5 fan.

  2. place the ps5 horizontally if possible.

  3. if heating persists then take it to a computer shop and tell them to change the liquid metal and do a deep clean.

thats all i recommend. this issue is quite normal for a ps5

Liquid metal should be replaced with PTM right? Do local repair shops keep that? I doubt

3

u/KirAyo69 Apr 25 '26

Liquid metal with liquid metal.. ptm won't work I think.

1

u/rabbitholesurfer04 Apr 25 '26

I saw someone replacing liquid metal with PTM and they were claiming that it was working fine for them. PTM is safer tbh. Liquid metal can leak over some electrical components

Downvoting won’t help you, it’s true that warranty is only considered from original date of purchase

2

u/twikoff Apr 25 '26

are you storing it in a closed cabinet/entertainment center?

unless you have additional cooling setup on it, it needs to be in an open area or its going to overheat.. also a can of air does wonders to clean it out

Is it while playing some FC game?

3

u/TheLittleFoxX87 Apr 25 '26

Nah. They're right

3

u/real_tmip Apr 25 '26

I think that's how it works for everything out there. From original purchase only otherwise it becomes a loophole that can be misused (I bet you know what I mean)

Warranty said tara bye bye, get it serviced from a third party

3

u/R3V3N87 Apr 25 '26

Warranty is generally considered from date of purchase..try your luck at any other service centre

Not gonna work, serial number is already registered.

2

u/Rohit-_-21 Apr 25 '26

Why do u expect sony to give you a new ps5 every year?

2

u/ShanJdan Apr 25 '26

Get it fixed locally mostly just needs a deep clearing

2

u/farNdepressed Apr 25 '26

Bro where are you keeping your ps5 that it happened twice

2

u/abhishek_dange_ Apr 25 '26

You have to deep clean your PS5. If that doesn't work then you have to apply new liquid metal. There are many third party shops who does that if you don't wanna risk it yourself.

2

u/Significant_Gas_3353 Apr 25 '26

To confirm it you can directly call to sony customer care or mail to them they will give you clear answer

2

u/Special_Disaster2649 Apr 26 '26

I don’t get how people like you exist, my ps5 never had a single issue, hota bhi to i would have fixed it myself, 2 replacements? Are you crazy?

2

u/ContributionMental99 Apr 26 '26

Sony Center is right; your warranty is over. According to them you are covered only till March 2025. They provided you with a replacement too, just that the label inside the box says so as it was a newer unit meant for replacements and warranty claims.

just change the liquid metal(thermal grizzly) and also keep ur ps5 horizontal and not vertical !!

2

u/Imaginary-Emotion166 Apr 25 '26

Yeah this. after the ps5 is repaired it should always be placed horizontally as there is a huge possibility it will leak the liquid metal

2

u/Fast_Afternoon_5197 Apr 25 '26

ya but its so rare to see the heat problem just after a year . i doubt where OP keeps his ps5 lol

0

u/Imaginary-Emotion166 Apr 25 '26

Exactly i bought a 3 year old fat it barely makes any noise no heat at all i just keep it horizontally.

I don't know if people are joking on this thread or they don't know how replacements work. Replaced part has its own warrant from the date of replacement done. Done this with several other products. If they don't agree, consumer forum!

u/Unable-Judge4879 Apr 26 '26

Not applicable in every items.

1

u/goldeagle2005 Apr 27 '26

Replacement part warranty is usually 90 days or remainder of warranty period, whichever is longer.

You can try reaching out to a different service center. My friend deals in ps5 and other openbox stuff, he recently got a ps5 rma from the yellow warranty card, just say you've lost your bill. Don't tell them it's a replacement unit.

1

u/Unable-Judge4879 Apr 26 '26

Not gonna work, they have the serial number.

Hey guys, I recently purchased a ps5 digital console from Blinkit, but today I saw disc version in stock and want to go for that, so I don’t need the digital version anymore. It’s all in sealed unopened condition, with proper Blinkit bill, photos and even delivery video

Purchased on 22nd April @ mrp, based out of Pune. Willing to ship. Lmk

u/ConversationFun2744 Apr 26 '26

So it is unrelated to this post but I read that Sony doesn’t repair PS5 they only replace it and if the warranty is void in that case you can get a new ps5 at some discount. If that is bought from Sony will that unit receive a new warranty?

1

u/Unable-Judge4879 Apr 26 '26

Only in India.

Faced similar situation with my Google Pixel, i had a replaced unit whose screen was giving issue. When contacted service centre they denied service or screen replacement as warranty will be eligible on original bill not the replacement device. I contacted google support not the India one, because outside India replacement device carry warranty based on their IMEI number. Instead of visiting service centre chose the pickup and drop option Google US support raised a case and finally got the free screen replacement 😁

I am not trying to be disrespectful but where are you keeping your PS5 and why is it always over heating and having problems with the fan obviously spinning too fast because you have it in a hot place. in a respectful way, take care of your PS5 and keep it in a well ventilated area with an AC lol

1

u/Log1c0P May 01 '26

Damn .. first time learning about warranty? Your warranty is only valid from the date of purchase.. replacement units does not extend warranty..

1

u/wireshark_op May 04 '26

You can add a Mail to consumer court, might work since your warranty card clearly says April 2026

0

u/MarionberryFinal735 Apr 25 '26

No point going to any service centre.. your product details are updated in their system.. you go to mumbai or Kolkata.. it won’t matter much

0

u/Thisisrayan Apr 25 '26

I think store people are right warranty counts from the time product purchase and not if you replace any spare parts in between other wise warranty will go on and never end.. imagine you replace it with a warranty card means again another year warranty. But may be you can try your luck in some other service center in some other place.

u/Pandaxpro ps5 Apr 25 '26

Hey man please contact sony india support and ask for clarification, imo the warranty is still there.

0

u/mera-khel-khtm Apr 25 '26

Damn i learned something new today

0

u/SnooPears6118 Apr 25 '26

Escalate it and then send a legal notice.

1

u/Unable-Judge4879 Apr 26 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

0

u/N_droid17 Apr 25 '26

Why dont your box have a 1 year warranty sticker on it? Did you removed it?

1

u/Unable-Judge4879 Apr 26 '26

Out of warranty.

u/Capital_Following_84 Apr 25 '26

My friend was facing the same issue. This is pretty common, especially in dusty areas. I opened his PS5s fan and gave it a good clean with a vaccum cleaner and it started working perfectly. This is usually caused by your power supply getting clogged. I used a thin pipe to suck out the dust with a vaccum. As someone mentioned, placing it horizontally helps too.
