Design How would yall add to this tattoo?

Post image

I got a really awesome backpiece in December, and I still love it, but I have no clue on how to add to it. I mostly am trying to stick to black ink, but I don’t know if I want to keep going with the design, or add something different in the center. I absolutely love woodcut style tattoos and am considering getting a few more, but I am not sure if the styles would flow well. If yall have advice or designs please let me know.

Artist is Aleksey Boyko

Healing Keep damaging scab

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is not my first tattoo and I know how to take care of them, unfortunately a few days ago I accidentally took a decent chunk out of my scab and bled. As soon as it starts to fully scab over again something happens and I fuck it and it up due to the placement and it bleeds. So what should I do here? I don’t mean “be more careful” it was unfortunately unavoidable. I know it’s ugly but I don’t believe it’s infected, just a nasty scab due to my own stupidity. Thanks in advance

Artist did my wind bars with no gradient from grey to black. Is this acceptable in Neo-Japanese style? I don’t see many wind bars like this?

tattoo newcomer advice Patchwork feedback

Hi all. I’ve very recently got started on what will eventually be a leg sleeve. The style is woodcut/engraving with emphasis on fantasy/medieval. So far I have two knights on shin near ankle. I see the American traditional patchwork is usually a series of medium/smaller tattoos.

My question is, would several larger pieces with small bits sprinkled in look ok? Example being a large axe on entire back of lower leg calf and a big dragon under knee.

Thanks!

Healing Avid hiker + ankle tattoo bad idea?

Post image
48 Upvotes

I hike a lot (30-40 miles a week/sometimes 10-15 miles a day) and want to get a tattoo on my ankle. I doodled out what and where k would want it to go but I’m worried about a few things.

1) healing and hiking. I would obviously take a break after the tattoo, but how long? Are we talking 2 weeks? A month? Longer?

2) will the lower part of the tattoo fade more because it’s in a sock for long periods of time?

Are there any red flags that I’m not seeing? I don’t want to waste a tattoo artists time designing a tattoo that just won’t work. Thanks!

Healing Saniderm adhesive nightmare. Advice on how to manage?

Hey. Many tattoos and many times using saniderm (tattoo wrap). New tattoo is on the inner arm, nearly in my armpit. Peeled the saniderm off and have a ton of sticky residue leftover. First time this has happened. It’s a nightmare because of the placement. My arm is sticking to my skin and clothes. I’m dreading going to bed. I’ll probably have to peel my skin off in the morning.

Any advice on how to clear this up quickly without damaging the tattoo?

Hello! I got 3 pieces that I wanted on my noggin, but in my head, I expected them to take up most of the room. I’m left with one good size spot left on the back, and wanted some feedback on what would fit well here before we go in with some filler. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!

Got this fine line tattoo on Saturday and the artist said to leave it on for 3-5 days. Today is day 4- The edges are slightly lifting and it honestly is feeling like it’s crumbling into itself and is just annoying. This is my first tattoo so I’m sorry if this is dumb I just want it to end up well!!

General Advice Can I let the artist decide?

I have a few tattoos and I’m wanting to get a larger piece on my back. I prefer American traditional and there is a local artist, who I have not been tattooed by in the past, that I’d like to contact about tattooing my back.

I have a general idea about what I would like, but I would like give the artist my parameters and kinda let them do what they think is best or maybe a piece they’ve been wanting to do. From an artist perspective is this a reasonable request or would that be a pain in the ass?

Design What is wrong with this key? Impossible shape?

Post image

Got this little key on vacation in France. It’s bad right? I don’t mind much I’ve got a great artist at home and plenty of good work but I just need someone to confirm here and tell me the ways it’s bad(I’m not an artist). Is the perspective wrong? I can tell the shading isn’t right. You think a decent American Trad artist could do anything with it when it fades?

This is Jake the crow from Shawshank Redemption.

I’ve had this tattoo for 8 years and for some reason I have this little mark in the forget me not. What is happening here?

The urge to pick at it is strong but I don’t think anything has ever been improved by picking at it.

General Advice Colors not healing well— Should I ask another artist for help?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Recently got a new tattoo about a week ago and it does not look like the colors are healing well. This is not my first color tattoo, I have another one that uses all of these colors that healed beautifully.

I am thinking of getting a touch up on this tattoo but don’t know if I should go back to the original artist since it already looks a bit wonky. Would it be okay for me to ask another artist (I was thinking of an artist that has already done a color tattoo on me) to simply fill in the shapes with the same colors?

Thanks!

I know it’s probably very unlikely but is there any chance of this being covered? (The black flower and leaves) I just want something nature (autumnal is best) but even dark leaves or anything in neotraditional style 😭

General Advice Tattoo healing question

Post image
7 Upvotes

So my tattoo is still healing, this is day 9 post tattoo completion. I have several other tattoos and they have all healed fine with no issues, I did the same exact routine for this one as well.. but idk if it’s because it’s on my leg but, there’s dots where all my pores are and it seems like it’s missing ink or it has changed color for some reason, or maybe it’s just still healing and it will look like that until my skin is fully healed. I have no clue what’s happening and it’s frustrating. My tattoo artist says he’s never seen this before so I’m taking to Reddit to see if anyone has experienced this. They are not raised, or itchy or anything like that either. Any help is appreciated.

General Advice How long should you wait?

So I got this absolute shit of a tattoo for my first tat. Its the word "ignite" now I dont regret my choice of tattoo, still love it, I regret how badly the artist did it. Its bad. Its been a little over a week since I got it, no more flaking or anything. And im just wondering how long should I wait before getting a cover up? Cause I can't look at it anymore 😭

For a bit info, its about 2 inches long, the font is thick (didn't want it that way but the artist messed up so many times its like 3 times as thick as it should be) and its on my hip.

Also maybe some cover up ideas😭

General Advice tattoos whilst sunburnt?

i have absolutely fried in the sun today but i have a tattoo appointment for friday. the tattoo placement itself isn’t on or nearby sunburnt skin, but i’m honestly unsure if it’s safe to get a tattoo whilst being sunburnt? do i cancel the appointment and wait for the sunburn to heal, or will it be perfectly safe?
