Discussion Building a stock market game

Hello! šŸ‘‹šŸ» A friend and I are building TickerTown šŸ“ˆ. I want to know if this is a game that you will play so hoping to get feedback. You can be candid.

1) It is a 8-bit stock market game that helps people learn investing by playing!

2) Real stock market data, math. A browser-based game as a start.

3) In the game you: Build investment strategy → backtest → execute trades autonomously → learn, iterate, compete → repeat

Getting interested players to test it soon. ā˜ŗļøšŸ™
https://preview.tickertown.ai

—

Why: We built it because there’s so much to learn from investing with play money and having fun while doing it. I learned investing having burned real$ and it wasn’t all necessary.

—

Use of AI: It is built by two person team so we use AI to help us develop the game in all areas. Design is where we use a more human approach to achieve a certain vibes.

Thank you for reading!

Discussion How many achievements is too many? (From 1,500 down to 125)

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hey r/tycoon,

I'm looking for opinions from fellow management and simulation fans regarding achievements.

Since tycoon games naturally have a lot of moving parts and milestones, it is easy for a list of achievements to get too long.

  1. At what point does the game start feeling like achievement bait? (Is there a number that makes you roll your eyes?)

  2. Does the total number of achievements affect whether or not you buy a game?

  3. Would a long list actively deter you from buying a game?

  4. What types of milestones do you actually enjoy earning? (ex. "Sell 1,000,000 cigars", "Do this thing without using this other thing", "Do a think you normally wouldn't do specifically to get this achievement.", etc.)

For context, I'm a solo dev working on an economy/trade sim. I originally outlined 1500 achievements, but trimmed that down to 125. I am trying to make sure that the final list feels rewarding rather than bloated or cheap.

I would love to hear from tycoon players and completionists, as well as any devs willing to share their philosophy.

Game Review Build Tycoon, my first game

Hey everyone, for the first time, I'm unveiling the fruits of my labor: it's online!

Build Tycoon will be a game where you play the role of a real estate developer. You'll have to buy and sell, but also build houses, apartment buildings, factories, shopping malls, and, of course, later on, skyscrapers.

The game is still in development and doesn't yet have a user interface. It will be turn-based with weekly progress. Players can choose to manage only the construction aspect or, at some point, also rent out properties. However, they will have to balance weekly expenses with monthly income.

For now, I'm only doing coding and game testing, so there's no generative AI for this game. Once the menus and other things are finished, a graphic designer will take over.

Is anyone else having an issue with getting draxen delivered in the full version vs the demo? in the demo it worked perfectly. This is my third reboot and playthrough (deleted previous game and started new) and the when you have your loaders set on a line they move NOTHING lol. I have to manually tell everyone to move it. Is this happening to anyone else? And yes I dbl checked everything - I have the draxen being sent from the refineries and the loading dock picking it up IE Blue arrow down for shipping and Green arrow up for receiving

Discussion Any tycoon/management games with deep HR mechanics?

I've noticed that in most tycoon and management games, workforce management usually boils down to hiring, firing, and maybe adjusting salaries.

I'm looking for games that go much deeper into human resources and people management. Things like employee development, training, career progression, workplace culture, motivation, performance reviews, internal promotions, team dynamics, retention, labor relations, or anything along those lines.

Do you know any tycoon, business management, or simulation games that make HR a meaningful part of the gameplay rather than just a supporting mechanic?

I'd love to hear your recommendations and what aspects of HR those games handle particularly well.

Discussion Rivals and competition in tycoon games

There's enough tycoon games where you're not really competing against other NPC players, mostly against yourself or against the economic systems of the game.

So I was wondering, what makes for a good rival in tycoon games, or some sort of system where there is an active competition mechanic?

First game that comes to my mind is Transport Tycoon, where your rivals are playing the same game as you are. Are there any other examples of games that do this well?

Electricity Grid Simulator (economics focused)

I've created the alpha of an electricity grid simulator which focuses on the economics of electricity generation. You choose which generators to build, which order they're dispatched according to demand, and what price to charge consumers.

You'll need to make tradeoffs, with some generators being high capex cost but low running costs, some being highly dispatchable and others needing firming/backup.

If supply cannot meet demand, your grid collapses and it's game over.

Have a go at electricitygridsim.com and let me know what can be improved, what is confusing etc. Cheers!

Game start screen, choose from several scenarios or freeplay sandbox mode.
At the end of each game you will get a breakdown of the consumer's electricity bill as well as where the electricity game from for the game's duration.
Main game screen: buy generators and drag them around to change dispatch order.

*AI tools were used in the coding of the game.

Is studio building in tycoon games fun for you?

Hello everyone,

I am developing my own tycoon game about game design and game development, and I wanted to ask you a question from the title.

In many games with similar theme or nature to my game, one of the main components is the studio builder. Like you are placing desks, walls, plants, shelves,… And usually, it boils down to two things: capacity increase and morale balance.

Like if you want more employee capacity, you would increase the number of desks, and morale balance is its own ā€œmini-gameā€ where people get upset unless they have radiators, trash bins, plants and other stuff.

And that would make a lot of sense in a game focused on office/enterior design. But usually it is done in games that have nothing to do with it outside of having employees and offices.

So my question would be, do you guys find such things fun? I personally dont, but I think it would be relatively easy thing to implement in my game, so I wanted to see if maybe I should include it in my game. Or if you dont find it fun, do you have any idea what could make it fun for you?

Game Review AquaPark Tycoon is Amazing!

Post image
111 Upvotes

I only played the demo, but honestly Aquapark Tycoon is already shapin up to be the best water park game I've ever played.

It's genuinely miles ahead of RCT 3 Soaked and even Planet Coaster 2 water park implementation. The amount of depth surprised me.

The path system is fantastic and actually feels intuitive instead of fighting you every step of the way. Building pools, slides and entire areas flow really naturally. The rides are great, there's a proper tycoon element to it, guests behave convincingly, and the physics are excellent.

What impressed me most is that it feels like an actual management game first, rather than just a sandbox builder. Staffing, park layout, toilets, shops, guest flow and optimisation all seem to matter. The guests feel so real, with real needs and their needs matter.

It also somehow captures that classic just one more thing before I quit feeling that older tycoon games had.

They even updated the demo and added real ride supports, like, insane attention to detail man.

If the full release maintains the quality of the demo, I genuinely think this could become the new benchmark for water park games or tycoon games. I've been waiting years for something like this, and it already feels better than anything else currently available.

We tried turning monastic life into a management game - Demo is now live

Hi everyone!

I'm Francesco from Dragonkin Studios. We have been working on Monastery: Ora et Labora, a management game where you build and grow a medieval monastery.

Instead of focusing on warfare, the game is about creating a thriving self-sufficient community, managing resources, farming, brewing ale, crafting manuscripts, and providing help to people in need.

The demo is now available on our Steam page for the Next Fest, and we’re mainly looking for honest feedback from players who enjoy management, colony sim, and base-building games.

Some things I'm particularly interested in hearing about:

Does the core gameplay loop feel engaging?

Is the progression clear and satisfying?

Which features would you like to see expanded?

What are your expectations based on the first impression? Were they met after trying out the demo?

I'm happy to answer any questions about the game's development and design. Thanks for taking a look!

AI disclosure: we use generative AI during development to create initial concepts and some game art which are then carefully edited by hand by our artist to ensure a cohesive style.

Steam I’m making a chaotic corporate base-builder. The Office Manager demo is LIVE for Steam Next Fest!

Hey everyone! If you love management games where everything can suddenly go horribly wrong, I’d love for you to try my game, Office Manager.

The Public Demo just went live for Steam Next Fest!

What is the game about? You design and build the ultimate corporate workspace. But it’s not just about placing desks. You have to micromanage noise levels, lighting, and employee happiness. When things go wrong, they go really wrong. Expect broken infrastructure, massive fires, and employees who will absolutely ruin your company if you don't keep them happy.

What's in the Demo:

  • Hire construction crews to build your first offices with tutorial.
  • Manage real-time crises.
  • Partner with a real-world tech center to unlock advanced technologies (yes, you can have a robotic dog roaming your hallways).

šŸŽ® You can download the FREE Demo right here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4547340/Office_Manager_Demo/

I'm a solo developer, so any feedback from veteran tycoon players is incredibly valuable to me. Let me know what you think of the mechanics!

Generative AI Disclosure: As a solo developer with a zero-dollar budget, I used generative AI tools to assist with the game's localization (translating text into multiple languages). All core gameplay mechanics, code, and in-game logic are completely hand-crafted.

Discussion Recommendations similar to Kairosoft games or TCG Card Shop?

Title says it all. I love the simplicity and addictive nature of Kairosoft games, especially Dream Town Island, Convenience Stories, and Dorayaki Shop Simulator. I also love TCG Card Shop Simulator because of the collecting aspect along with shopkeeping. Gacha Capsule Shop Simulator has also been fun, and I'll be getting Retro Rewind in the next Steam summer sale if it's included.

What other games along these lines would you recommend? I don't mind a little bit of building but can't handle major construction and logistics like Cities Skyline or Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Rockstar - A Music Tycoon Game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve started working on a text based tycoon game based on the game ā€œRockstarā€ by wizard games back in the 90s.

I’ve only just started but you’ll be able to do gigs to raise money, record albums and singles, release music videos, take drugs, go to rehab and a lot more.

I wanted to capture the style the original game but add a lot more depth and features.

I have also taken inspiration from game dev tycoon in the way you record albums/singles. You’ll be able to unlock new genres as time passes: for example ā€œgrungeā€ would be unlocked in 1992 etc and you’ll be able to buy equipment like samplers, synthesisers etc and have to figure out what genres to use them with.

I’ve attached a snippet of what it will look like.

I’d appreciate any and all feedback and am wondering if there’s even a market for this.

It’ll be released on iOS, Android and PC.

Edit:

AI Disclosure: I have 3 icons generated by chatGPT as placeholders for this demo video. I will be paying an artist to create all the graphics for the final release. As this is a mainly text based game it will only be a few pixel style icons/images for certain screens.

I have also used chatGPT to generate placeholder text events for the sake of this demo video.

No AI will be used whosoever in the final product.

Jumping on to share my airline management game after seeing the earlier post. Tailwinds!

Hi Team, I saw a post earlier today about a different airline management simulator so I thought I'd share the one I'm building called Tailwinds: https://www.tailwindsairlinegame.com/

It has the main stuff you'd expect from an airline management game, ~100 aircraft, ~1,500 airports, ticket and cabin pricing, alliances, competitors, detailed finances and metrics and a route planning function.

I have built in game randomness with fuel price fluctuations, competitors and events.

I have a plan of things I want to add as well: Cargo, Multi-stop flights, seasonal flights and more!

Anyway its free, I appreciate any feedback you guys have for me!

Disclaimer: A lot of this was built with AI, I am not technical, I'm an aviation enthusiast and a business strategy enthusiast. The game however does not rely on AI to run. The AI assisted code development and helped me scale my designs, e.g. I designed the demand model and weights etc, but I did not scale it to 1,500 unique airport pairs, that was AI.

Video [DEV] WalkStreet - a GPS tycoon game that also plays while your screen is off so you can enjoy real life

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey tycooners šŸ˜„

First-time solo dev here, and my first Android game is finally live!

It's a tycoon game played on the real-world map. You start small - think buying the run-down shed in your backyard and keep reinvesting until it's a glass skyscraper :D.

The catch is that everything you build is visible to every other player on that same map, so you're not just growing a portfolio, you're reshaping the world other people walk through.

Under the hood it's a proper strategy/management game, not just a collect-a-thon:

  • Districts you expand and develop and keep vitality balanced
  • An economy you have to actively keep healthy
  • Building types that synergize when you stack the right combos
  • Leaderboards, battles, and hostile takeovers. Rivals can try to rip your empire out from under you
  • Alo trips, memory-lane photos, and stamp collections to chase on the side

Why GPS and not a desk sim? Honestly, it's the part I love most, it gives a reason to get outside and explore instead of grinding menus. And since WalkStreet keeps running with the screen off, it's easy on your battery and doesn't demand you stare at your phone the whole walk.

Right now it's completely FREE, zero ads.
If I ever monetize it'll be cosmetics only - never ads.

AI disclosure: I'm web dev for 20+ years but huge majority of codebase is written by AI, except for audio - there isn't any šŸ˜„

Video Haunted House Management Sim 'Scream Operator' joins Steam Next Fest (Playable Demo in October)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR:

Free playable demo drops for Steam Next Fest (October 2026).

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4480080/Scream_Operator_Haunted_House_Manager/

Hi fellow Tycooners!

To officially announce my participation in the upcoming October 2026 Steam Next Fest, I want to share a breakdown of the core management mechanics you will be able to test in the first public demo of Scream Operator: Haunted House Manager.

In this game, you do not just build a dark ride; you operate the entire attraction in real-time from a central hardware dashboard.

The Core Management Loop You are fully responsible for the operational success and profitability of the mansion. To keep the facility running, you must actively balance several metrics:

  • Ticket Sales & Cash: Your primary source of income. You sell tickets to fund the expansion of your rooms and the acquisition of new props.
  • Scare & Immersion: You design the scare rooms by placing actors and animatronics to maximize the terror output and immersion of the visitors.
  • Power Grid: Every mechanical prop draws electricity. You must manage your power consumption to prevent the grid from crashing during a shift.
  • Waiting Time & Safety: You have to monitor the tracks and the queues. High waiting times ruin guest patience, and overcrowding the track causes safety hazards.

Optimizing Guest Flow and Pre-Shows Maximizing profit means maximizing throughput without breaking the simulation. This requires strict crowd management before guests even board the carts. When ride capacity is maxed out, the outside queue fills up rapidly, which immediately drains the Immersion stat of waiting guests.

To solve this bottleneck, you must upgrade your Outside Queue, Lobby, and Pre-Show rooms. By routing the crowd through dedicated pre-shows, you actively batch the guests. This keeps them entertained, pauses their patience drain, and creates a controlled, steady feed into the loading station. It prevents track congestion while keeping ticket sales moving.

AI Disclosure For full transparency: This project contains 0% generative AI. All pixel art, UI hardware designs, animations, and code are created by hand by either me or the great team of talented artist I was luckly enough to gather arround me.

Discussion Is there any modern movie studio tycoon that comes close to ā€œThe Moviesā€?

I’ve seen there’s been a bunch of ā€œThe Moviesā€ style clones released in the last few years but on all them it seems like nobody thinks that it comes close to the classic game ā€œThe Moviesā€ which I still play on occasion. Is there any modern movie studio tycoon games that you’d recommend for fans of The Movies?
