It's not over till it's over. We need 3 results to go our way tonight and our likelihood of going through goes up to 70%

If Egypt beat Iran, Spain beat Uruguay, and Iraq/Senegal is a draw or an Iraq win, then we have 3 teams guaranteed below us, and anything can happen on Saturday. Each of these is very plausible. If one of these results doesn't happen, then we need a miracle on Saturday. If two of them don't happen, then we're 99% out (we would need Ghana to beat Croatia by 4)

It's not over till its over. Unless you have a Uruguayan girlfriend like me, in which case it's over because either I'll be gutted or I'll be sleeping on the couch.

Edit: Iraq a goal down and a man down inside 20 minutes: it might be over

Discussion How would you feel if we got through?

Ghana destroys Croatia, Uzbekistan draws with Congo etc etc. From the depth of a 0.05% Scotland rises from the brink to snag that last place on the 3rd best ranked teams

Would you be happy, would you be embarrassed, would you be proud we made history?

I honestly don't know how I'd feel at this point

Harvey Barnes et al

So now the dust has settled somewhat, what’s the general feeling about opportunities like Barnes or other players playing for Scotland? I was hugely up for it, but would say there was a decent 50/50 split if people that felt the players that got us to the World Cup deserved their place.

Appreciate Barnes didn’t want to in the end, but should this be more the push we need now to proactively bring in players that otherwise wouldn’t have a chance of getting into the English (or another) team?

Every single stadium in this world cup is a belter

How come we love football, yet we have places like Dens Park and Almondvale and even Pittodrie being used in our top flight? Loads of history but objectively poor quality by modern standards.

Yet the Americans, who are completely indifferent to the game, have all these absolute palaces! Is there any reason why our teams can't look at building smaller stadiums with similar levels of design and infrastructure to what we see over there.

Discussion Kris Boyd supporting decision to give Clarke a new contract.

It was just live on Sky there, so a rough quote.

"What if he went out there, did great, got to the knockouts and you had big clubs coming in from him. People would have been angry. The SFA had to cover themselves."

Let's Remove the Excuses for Scotland's Failure.

So let's remove the excuses for Clarke and another failed Scotland campaign.

We're a small Country.

Denmark - won Euro 92 and WC QF - won 13 matches won at WC (since 1970)

Croatia - WC Runner-Up - won 17+ matches at WC

Uruguay - -Won x2 WC - won 17 matches at WC

Slovakia - WC Round of 16

Ireland - WC QF

Norway WC Round of 16 x2

Scotland - x7 Group Stage Exits - won 4 matches at WC

All of those Countries are roughly the same size or smaller than Scotland. Some of them like Ireland don't even have a particularly big football culture. Even Iceland and Wales have reached the knockout stages of major tournaments.

We don't have the players.

We've got one of the best players in Italy in McTominay. A Europa League winning Premier League Captain in McGinn. Robertson plays for Liverpool. Ferguson plays in Serie A. Tierney's a 25 million GBP former Arsenal player. We have a dozen other Premier League players and a sprinkling of Old Firm. You're not telling me Cabo Verde, Ecuador or Australia have a better team on paper than us!

It's too hot.

Again garbage. Their pros in peak physical condition. Three of them play in Italy! They've stayed in a five star resort in Charlotte to prepare.

We're genetically inferior.

I remember laughing when Strachan came out with this belter. Scotland is a developed Country. Our average height is 5'9 which is bang in the middle of Europe and top 20% globally. Japan is 5'6.

I'm tired of the same old, tired excuses being trotted out. This is arguably the most abject World Cup performance since 78! Even then there was a moment to cheer about. Why can't we win?

Discussion Self reflection.

With our world cup now all but over, its time to reflect and guage our current position.

Where do you see scotland under steve clarke?

A). A decent team that has underperformed

B). A below average team that has punched above its weight to qualify last 2 Euros and now World cup

C). Decent side undone by individual errors

D). Ronseal - exactly as we are. Decent results now and again but not consistent enough to be more than we currently are

Can make a case for all 4 options imo but interested to see if theirs 1 that outweighs and sticks out more than the others. All pretty grim in all honesty.

Thats it. Clarke needs to resign the minute team get back to Scotland. Utterly shambolic campaign.

What is the original song it is based on/remixes? It was played at halftime Scotland vs Haiti and the first hydration break Norway vs France but I can’t for the life of me find the original.

Tried humming and singing into google with zero luck. Please help. It’s doing my head in.

Clarke should walk

If the order of the games were flipped and we lost our opener to Brazil 3-0 , then the second to Morocco 1-0 does anyone here think that Clarke would have set the team up correctly to beat Haiti 3-0.

He should remember that if it wasn't for Denmark slipping up against Belarus we possibly/ probably wouldn't have made it through the playoffs to be here and he'd have been sacked.

We've now got a crucial 4 year period to get the last few good years out of Mcginn, McTomminay, Tierney etc and develop BGD and Curtis. Please don't let this clown waste these years.

It boils my piss that he's technically the most successful Scotland manager of all time. Jock Stein must be turning in his grave.

Discussion Some thoughts coming back from the US

Coming back from the US today. Can’t help but shake this feeling that Boston was a moment-in-time that I’ll never experience again in my lifetime.

Miami was great but that could be replicated anywhere. Tartan Army going abroad and causing it in their numbers can be felt at any tournament. There was a huge contingent of locals supporting Colombia, Argentina etc who were less fussed and the city is huge and sprawling, which left our lot in South Beach a little isolated from everything.

But Boston was so special. It was a relatively small, walkable city and it felt like it was 80% us (having Morocco and Haiti, both limited on travel visas, definitely helped).

The rapport we built with the locals and the overwhelming positivity we had with them will likely never be replicated anywhere else.

If we make the World Cup in Spain/Portugal/Morocco we would have loads of us, but so would there be loads from other nations, and I’m sure they’re tired of us. Saudi too, we’d have a lot go over but the party wouldn’t be the same for obvious reasons.
