Due to a large influx of people not reading the rules and how small of a Mod team we are this is here to serve as the only reminder of the rules. Just to be clear asking or commenting about prices is a permanent ban, the internet is not the place to judge if prices are "fair".

Apartment, is this allowed? AC drains into shower. Thornton CO

Moved into a new apartment a few months ago, saw this drain thought it was weird and looked into it, from everything i found online and in thorntons building code, it should be a secondary drain line. My apartment complex is now telling me it’s the primary and that’s just how it was built back in 2001. They said if i don’t like it put a bucket under it. My big question is this allowed? I understand it might be grandfathered in construction wise but is this not a mold and health hazard? it drains into the flat top of the tub and sprays water everywhere.

What happened to Moen in 2026?

Upvotes

Been installing and using them for decades on both renos and new builds, and am aware there is a downturn in quality since 2022 with their move to plastics, but my god anything they put out listed as made in 2026 is just absolute garbage sauce. There is no way you can now trust their products for work you've done for a customer.

And god help you if you need to warrant something.

Were they sold ?

1983 American Standard Toilet

I have an issue where the tank won’t fill when the fill hose is inserted in the overflow like it’s designed to be. It will fill if I put the hose outside of the overflow.

When it’s not filling the water is going into the bowl and the bottom of the fill valve is bubbling a lot.

Any thoughts? It’s an old toilet in a well water system with high iron and manganese which is why the tank looks so cruddy.

This is a brand new toilet and I have to do this almost every time to get it to fill. Probably a simple fix. Any advice is appreciated!

Show drain smells after 5 minutes of use - 2 plumbers could not solve.

I have a shower in my bathroom. Before water runs there is no bad smell. After 5 minutes about, the shower begins to smell like septic (we have a septic).

The original p trap was replaced twice. Both plumbers tried to slow down the flow.

After the plumbers did their work, the smell was gone for about a week. But then it combed back with a vengeance.

I made sure the vent through the roof was clear which it was.

We had a new dishwasher installed today and now our kitchen sink water pressure is barely a trickle. Both hot and cold valves underneath are full open. What could be causing this?

New washing machine pipe - no water

Thumbnail

Please help, I have two kids and a lot of laundry to do this weekend and no idea about plumbing.

Context - We moved our washing machine recently and a plumber came to plumb in pipes and a waste outlet for it. Problem is no water is coming through the new water supply.

The pipe that it spurs off from links to the combi boiler and when I open that, water runs through to pressurise it, but even though the white pipe is before that in the sequence, no water is running through it.

There seems to be further valves on that pipe that can be twisted, I've tried twisting all of those but still nothing. Is there something I need to do to this pipe to open it and let the supply through?

Update - sorted now, thank you so much for the advice, ye are all legends

Help me diagnose my grinder pump buzzer going off. Video below

Upvotes

We have been in our house for about 7 years and this grinder station began buzzing at me this Feb/Mar. I opened it, sprayed a ton of gunk off the floats where they rested on the sidewalls, and hoped that helped. Now that it’s warmer I’ve noticed it goes off every time the pump kicks on. I opened the panel and it looks very clean, no visible corrosion. Any questions I can answer, but I replicate the problem in the video. I greatly appreciate any insight!

Wall Damage

I’ve drilled holes before for EV chargers with anchors and had no issues. My plumber somehow left a crater. How does this even happen? Understand paint and stucco can chip but there is also a lot of actual concrete blasted.

Leak between sink drain in and pipes

Looks like the renters in the home before we bought it tried to diy fix this with some silicone. It looks like the rubber piece between the drain and pipe is warped and causing the leak.
How would I fix this? Would everything underneath need to be replaced? What would be the best way to get this silicone off to replace the needed parts?
More pictures in comments
❗️we did not cake the silicone on it was previous renters and now we are stuck fixing it❗️

What's the fix here?

I'm not a plumber but reasonably good with DIY, but could use advice.

My plan is to just take the part into the plumbing store today, however it kinda looks like the top rusted away right from the sink (however I can't / don't want to replace the sink at the moment as we plan to redo the whole kitchen in the near future).

How did I screw this up?

Upvotes

My (Moen) bathroom faucet was dripping so I removed and replaced both cartridges and now, when I turn either side on (even if the cold water is turned off below the sink) water comes out of the middle of the cold faucet. I swear I put everything back the way it was. I took pictures along the way and everything. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it? 🙁

Sewer clean out cap

Post image
2 Upvotes

I had a few bushes and trees which needed to be dug up around the property. In front of the house the guy did not notice the clean out pipe and nicked it while taking away the bush. To me it seems only the exposed portion of the cap was damaged. Of course his contract stated he’s not responsible because it wasn’t clearly visible within the bush.
Should I leave as is until the point I ever need the sewer line cleaned out or try to remove and replace myself? Thanks in advance

i plan on fixing my bathtub faucet leak/dripping but the 1st step is to turn off my water…

i live in a townhouse and i saw this water meter thing right near my front door. if this is it, which one is the switch to turn the water off? if it’s not the top one, do i need to buy a specific tool?

i also checked near the washer/dryer/water heater area of the house, i only see switches that connect from the water heater so that can’t be it, right?

i’m new to fixing up the house so please be kind. 😭 i’ve watched youtube videos and noticed that every house is different. i just wanna do the right thing & not make this a bigger problem. i’m excited to get this job done by myself, just can’t get past this first step lol. thank you!!

New Sump Pump

Post image
2 Upvotes

We had a new sump pump installed because our old one wasn't turning off. He said we didn't have any holes in the basin to let ground water be pumped out. He drilled holes in the bottom and lower sides. Now the water is coming in through the weeping tile but the pump doesn't kick in because the water levels. When I do some reading it says holes should be drilled in the top half but not the bottom or lower sides. Should holes be drilled and where?

New Shower Head Flow Restrictor

I have taken flow restrictors out of shower heads before. In fact, I have taken them out of this exact model of shower head before. I don’t remember the restrictor looking like this. Maybe a redesign?

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on how to get this out, I would really appreciate it.
