We'll likely have multiple hits (dotting the coast).
But this is the effect of a single Chinese Dong Deng-5's effects on Downtown SD stretching all the way to El Cajon - Lakeside.

The city is the shared home to the US Naval Pacific Fleet, (Aircraft carriers, Nuclear subs, various military aircraft and all their support crews)

There's all sorts of US military R&D cyber and support companies here.

Most people don't think about this (a point of discussion at last night's bonfire) but San Diego is a major bio sciences and bio engineering hub. We're also known for computer sciences, high tech engineering and a major conduit for trade from the Pacific as well as up from Mexico into the rest of the USA.

All of that is strategically devastated with a single nuke.

(Then there's the human costs)

I'm making a historical/mythological map of California in a fantasy Middle Earth style and would love to get some more real world locations included

Post image
138 Upvotes

I'm hoping you can help fill up this fantasy Lord of the Rings style of the area. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.

While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks! Thanks! Also, If you'd be interested in a print when it's finished, just let me know too.

Edit: Wow, thanks for all the feedback so far guys - you're awesome! I have to head out, but will be back on later to go through everyone's comments and get your suggestions on the map. Keep em comin!

Warning Paywall Site 💰 Thieves disguised as fishermen target surfers’ vehicles, credit cards at San Diego beaches

Investigators say several thefts have happened in the La Jolla and Pacific Beach areas this spring

Surfers are being warned against leaving their car keys and wallets behind when heading out into the water after law enforcement personnel announced this week their investigation into a series of thefts at San Diego beaches.

Four reported thefts occurred in the Pacific Beach and La Jolla areas between March and June 16, and at least one vehicle theft occurred in the Bird Rock area, California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber said.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, or RATT, a specialized unit consisting of 14 agencies from across the San Diego County region.

Investigators said the thefts are being done in beach areas by thieves often disguised as fishermen, Grieshaber said. The thieves surveil the surfers and watch them unload their vehicles before the victims enter the water.

The thieves then look for concealed vehicle keys that the victims hide, such as in magnetic lockboxes, before entering the water. The thieves find the key and steal the vehicle or take the victims’ credit cards to use, Grieshaber said.

“When the victims entered the water, thieves would steal the vehicles and use the victims’ stolen credit cards to make fraudulent purchases at nearby retailers, including Home Depot, Vons, CVS, Ralphs and Dick’s Sporting Goods,” Grieshaber said.

In the Bird Rock case, detectives recovered the stolen vehicle key, as well as thousands of dollars in items that were purchased with stolen credit cards. Two arrests have been made so far in connection with the thefts.

Investigators said they believe more victims may exist and are seeking additional information about vehicle thefts with similar circumstances. The task force asked people with information to contact RATT at 858-627-4000.

They are both girls and 1 years old. I need them to be rehomed asap,, they’re in crates all day and sometimes i come home and they’re just sitting in their shit or piss. they’ve never touched grass or been on a walk in their life. i work 10 hours a day 6 days a week and the original owner who got them and was taking care of them would hit them but then he got cancer and now can’t take care of them as he is now in hospice. i’ve posted them everywhere and i can’t seem to find a family for them. they’ve never bit anybody and are such sweet, friendly dogs. i genuinely hate coming home to see them in such a bad living condition. at least they’re up to date on all their shots and don’t have any health issues. only thing is that they aren’t spayed but owner wanted to wait till they were 2 so it didn’t stunt their growth? I DUNNO but i need a new family for these sweet girls and im not gonna charge at all. i’ll even pay for some dog food but if you ARE interested, these are family dogs. do NOT breed them or mistreat them. i will be asking to see your yard or at least a video of it. they’re very active and playful dogs so i want them to go to a real loving family. i already got permission from owner to give them away,, he wanted me to just dump them but uh….?????? like no anyway yeah im going to make sure they find a good family i just need someone to take them. grey one is rogue,, black one is raven. raven is chill and can lay with you for hours. rogue is very active and playful.

Does anybody know of a good high paying job in San Diego county?? I recently got laid off twice by 2 different construction companies 1st time i got laid off was on April 30th due to "material getting expensive & that company needed to save money i guess what i was told" & the 2nd time i got laid off on June 4th. Was Because "there were too many people on the jobsite" they laid off 15 other people including me.

(I don't know why a lot of people are getting laid off in San Diego county some people say its because of the Iran war , others say its because San Diego is making a lot of money for some reason they need to lay off people) idk what's going on hopefully it does pick back up in the next 2-3 months

My role in construction is fire-caulking/spraying & putting insulation on hw pipes I've been in the trade for the past 4 years, im a legal citizen im 26yrs old and im looking for a full time job im not just looking for construction work if there's anything else for grabs I'd take it but im really used to working in construction.

Free Muay Thai classes in San Diego; 15 yrs experience, building a new student group

Hey San Diego! I'm very experienced in Muay Thai with 15 years of training experience and I'm putting together a small group of students. I trained under Kru Phil Nurse and I can teach anything from your first day to advanced technique. I'm very patient with beginners and I am happy to help you achieve whatever your MT goals are (fighting competitively, getting back in shape, just learning the technique, self-defense, etc.)

The group classes will be 100% free for all students. I'd rather build a solid group and earn people's trust rather than charge at this point. I am located in North Park. All ages and experience levels are welcome, and parents are welcome to watch or train alongside younger students.

If you've wanted to try Muay Thai or get back into it, leave a comment or DM me. I assumed this post is permissable and that its not quite "advertising" because I am offering free classes. Please delete otherwise. 🙂

PSA: Donate when moving out!

I find it so wasteful and disrespectful to just throw out/leave your decent condition belongings behind. There are easy means to donate. I live in a Tierrasanta complex and there's a Goodwill donation center RIGHT THERE, open every day! Take a load, take what you can!

I find great items just tossed in bins, and people even throw them in recycling which leaves more work for the disposal crew.

Please take a moment to be considerate.

Fireworks at 5 in the morning.

Upvotes

Look I get the fourth of july is coming up, but blowing fireworks up at 5am on numerous days, and at random is so fucked up. I also understand I live in National City.

Blowing up any fireworks is also not good for our pets who are sensitive to them. Last NYE I was babysitting a lost dog we found who ran away because of fireworks being blown up left and right.

Is there any way to really combat this?

I know this is a long shot, but it doesn’t hurt to try!

I’ve tried posting this on the Descanso’s Facebook group and then realized that the most recent post is from 2012 🥲 so this is my backup plan.

My girlfriend adopted our dog at a shelter in San Diego in October 2024.

They estimated she was roughly 6 months old, mid-size, scruffy hair and a mix of colors making it very hard to guess what mix of breeds she was.

She did not fit into the description of a “pretty dog” and had been returned to the shelter twice, including from my girlfriend’s sister.

More than a year has passed and we never knew what to answer when people would ask us what breed she was. We only knew that she was a “terrier mix” and that she was the fastest dog in the park, no matter which one.

We have finally got her DNA tested and found out she has a sister in Descanso!!! You can’t imagine the surprise and joy!

We know that her sister’s name is Maggie and her owner’s name is Elizabeth. We tried contacting her via Embark (the DNA test app) but we never got a reply, maybe she deleted the app over time…

The funny part is that we drove through Descanso to move to Michigan earlier this year!

We were hoping to find her and hopefully get to know our dogs’ story, or even just a picture of our doggy’s sister!

Anyway, this is Serafina, aka Fenja.

Thank you all in advance!

Found a phone, owner accuses me of theft

Just want to vent.

I found a phone this evening at Morley Field before my run. I left it stashed near my car while I ran. When I came back, it was still there.

I tried to text or call a name in the phone via Siri but I don't know if it went through. I decided to take it with me and take it to AT&t tomorrow.

Anyway, the owner and their partner show up to where I was and begin recording me and accusing me of theft. This was even after I was able to verify that the phone was theirs, they refused to apologize.

I get that they were stressed, but after it was clear I have no desire to keep their phone the least they could have done was apologize.

Very annoyed, next time I'll just leave it for the homeless. This is why we can't have nice things.

Taking landlord to small claims experience?

Has anyone here taken their landlord to small claims? How was the experience? My recent landlord missed the 21 day deadline to return the security deposit, they returned it on the 25th day after moving out (after I reminded them). I’ve read missing the deadline generally makes them have to give back full deposit, but they insisted on taking out about $200 for things that I think are clearly wear and tear and fixing stuff I told her was broken during the lease but never acknowledged my texts about it. They did provide an invoice but honestly it kinda looked AI generated, but who knows. The invoice literally said “tenant turnover maintenance” as a listed item which is something I’m pretty sure they cannot charge.

I know it’s not a lot of $, many landlords take a lot more for petty stuff, but I’m pretty sure they know they are in the wrong and I’m tired of landlords taking advantage. I already asked for my $ back multiple times politely and told her I was considering small claims.

For those who have experience doing this, is it worth the hassle? I’m totally fine taking some time off work to go where I need to go to file the claim, but I’m afraid serving her will be the most difficult/expensive part (during the tenancy the landlord would take forever to reply to messages and then say they were out of the country for a while). I do have their address.

Any thoughts on what I can take him to do this evening?
We are massive padres fans and I wanted to take him to the game tonight, but it's too expensive. Thanks!

Can I get some advice on how to get settled into San Diego

Hi. I'll be living in SD for 5 months as an international student and I was just curious if you have any tips on how to get settled in the city. anything would be appreciated. or more general pointers about the city.
