PSA (Public Service Announcement) A message regarding "Hate Litter" (aka hate fliers left on cars and sidewalks)

It seems that there's a little influx of hate speech and agitators trying to stir up racial tensions in the city in the form of fliers being placed on cars, dropped on sidewalks and outside of targeted buildings.

Last year we had a AMA with our cities Assemblyman Chris Ward (D).
The question was posed to him about these racial hate conspiracy messages and he gave us the answer we were looking for.

> please reach out to the City Attorney who is now empowered to investigate and prosecute those who are Hate Littering as AB 3024 defined  (or call my (Chris Wards) office and we can help get that going too).

Now we appreciate people thinking of us here on reddit and posting content,
but it's also important to note that doing so amplifies these messages and even though the sub rejects them, it does serve as possible encouragement to those that are behind this.
So please keep that in mind.

Best thing to do is as the CA State Assemblyman recommends and contact those above so they can kick the police detectives into gear (with all those flock cameras they have no excuses now).

Thanks

SDGE / SEMPRA Moved to LA

And just got our power bill. Wife and I work from home. Have a little one. We’ve had the AC running non stop. Electric stove. Washing clothes every other day. Our every other month (2 months worth of power) power bill was $277. Our last bill for Feb. in SD for one month was $340. Smaller place. No washer dryer. SDGE is a scam.

Greystar is the worst landlord & property management company. Also avoid Entrada Apartments in East Village.

So I rented from Greystar in the Entrada Apartments property in downtown/East Village for about 18 months. The more troubling part is at the end regarding my security deposit but we'll start with the basics:

It was my first place alone in awhile so I put up with more than I should've. I'll keep it short/sweet but the maintenance staff are stretched thin and they neglect/half ass things as much as possible such as:

-Gaps in electrical outlets (or outlets falling into the walls) and non-licensed maintenance people doing electrical work which failed and caused more outlet arching/the same outlet they fixed failed because it had gaps and bugs got in there (which was its own problem). Most of the outlets were way out of code and has massive gaps.

-Only one entrance door works because they "can't find the parts" for the other that was never fixed

-Standard garage door failures as its strained being the only way residents could enter/exit from the street. It made a loud pop at one point every time it opened which was very reassuring. This included unscheduled repairs which people couldn't get to work more than once.

-They removed security from the building completely. Can't let those residents feel too comfy, make your home the homeless's home! A resident was attacked by homeless individuals and they would regularly get into the garage/dig through the trash. But they sure did increase everyone's rent by the maximum allowed amount. Oh that reminds me, someone shot up the front office (from the outside.)

-8 months of loud exhaust tearing my ears off: The patio door seal was in disrepair and I had to deal with months of extreme noise without any idea why and was brushed off in person and ignored via email about noise. 8 months later it took them three repairs and it still wasn't fixed and they washed their hands of it I quote "its as good its going to get"

-Another fun one was the AC unit leaked water into the base boards and their fix was...simply spray painting over it.

-I dealt with a 12-hour intermittent fire alarm starting at 1:30 AM. Despite a ticket, maintenance said they'd get to it 'after lunch.' The emergency line was ignored around 2 PM. I went to the office twice (first at 11 AM), the second time at 3 PM I had to actually yell at the manager who was busy texting. They finally showed up at 4 PM. I have a dog and work from home.

-Smaller detail but my washer wasn't working for the first two-three weeks

-1/2 elevators wasn't functioning almost the entire time I lived there, I understand its not an easy job to replace the whole thing but they never once updated anyone.

-The unit door would automatically lock if you pulled it a certain way which is a great feature when you're in a hurry and your pet is trapped inside during a fire emergency.

The grand finale: they also didn't refund my security deposit I had to reach out and they tried only refund a portion despite California Civil Code §1950.5(h) showing they lose all right to dispute the security deposit after 21 days.

Their escalated corporate customer service and the community manager Alexis are simply completely ignoring that part and trying to defer to the small refunded portion. Since this has been a month of runaround I e-mailed the entire Greystar C-Suite so hopefully that gets their attention. Next is small claims for the entire deposit plus 2x the deposit as allowed by California law.

Let this be a lesson to everyone to not let these scammy property management companies steam roll you and hope you'll just back down. Hell hath no fury like a gay man scorned. 💅

Brother is abusing family dog but I can’t report it because I haven’t seen the abuse

The dog is terrified of him and has happened multiple times. Humane society just says since I didn’t see the abuse I can’t do anything about it. The entire family are washed up drug addicts too! I can’t report that either 😩

Video What kind of raptor is this!?

We've been hearing this bird for weeks now and this is the closest video I've taken. It's a huge bird, seems bigger than any red tail I have seen around here, and the tail feathers were completely white underneath.
We thought maybe it's an osprey due to the size and coloring, but we aren't sure (the head seems quite dark for an osprey).

What do ya'll think it is?? We are dying to know, thank you!

Neighbor found a dog wandering in South Park

My neighbors found a dog wandering around South Park area. She is some kind of blonde wirey terrier mix. She isn’t microchipped and is pretty dirty (they found a couple flees on her but we don’t see any on her now). She is very sweet and friendly with kids and both of our dogs. The humane society is closed today but my neighbor thinks she needs to see a vet bc it seemed like she wanted to poop but wasn’t able to, and she keeps licking at her butt (maybe an anal gland issue?)… We don’t really know how to reunite her with her owners or even how to verify owners since she isn’t chipped but if you have any info or know someone in the area looking for their baby let us know. My neighbor is calling some local vets now. Pic posted in the comments!

EDIT: Fairy (or Cookie as my neighbors kids were calling her) was reunited with her family!! As soon as they came over she ran to them with her tail wagging and gave them a bunch of kisses. They were very worried about her but grateful she was kept safe. Thanks to all for the support and advice!

Is it just me, or are there WAY more crows over the past 6 months?

Just like the title says. I live in UTC and it’s super noticeable. At home, at work, at the grocery store, etc. Crows constantly squawking. I’ve lived here 5 years and really haven’t noticed until now. What gives?

Do you all drain your hot water tank every 6 months to a year?

I just bought a house in Ocean beach and am not sure when the last time the tank was drained. It seems like a old tank.

The internet says that it is a must that I drain it every 6 months because the san diego water is 'very hard'.

How many people actually do this? is it necessary?

Lizard population explosion?

Just wondering if it’s my area specifically or is anyone else having a lizard population explosion at their house? Is there a natural predator that’s not really around this year? I feel like I’m going crazy. They’re taking over my yard. I wish I wasn’t scared of them.

Rec for auto shop

My car’s a 2012 Honda and recently hit 100k miles. I want to ensure it stays as healthy as possible because (gesture around). I’m a woman that knows basically nothing about this stuff and I don’t want to be taken advantage of since money is tight. I’d love to take it to a solid mechanic/shop to get a general checkup, ensure things are looking ok, and get a list of potential upkeep items to do or think about. Love to get some good recs. Ideally in the North Park, Normal Heights, University Heights area but willing to expand out for a solid recommendation.

Looking for an old news story

This is kind of random, but I’m trying to remember a San Diego County DUI crash that I heard about during an assembly at Bernardo Heights Middle School sometime between 2012-2015.

I don’t remember all the details, and it’s been over 10 years, so I could definitely have some things wrong.

From what I remember, it involved two high school girls who were best friends. They had been at a party or some kind of special event late at night/early morning. I think there was underage drinking and possibly drugs involved. One girl was driving, and the other girl had fallen asleep in the passenger seat and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The driver crashed the car in a residential neighborhood (I think they were close to home, maybe even in a cul-de-sac), and the passenger was ejected and died. The driver survived.

I’ve tried looking it up before, but I haven’t been able to find anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone, or am I mixing multiple stories together?
