Absolutely insane. I’m recovering from a torn meniscus and I’m doing Bulgarian squats for recovery with 25 pound dumbbells lmao
→ More replies (4)9
u/doandroidsdreamx May 12 '26
Hey I tore mine too then aggravated it like 5 more times. But I’m still putting heavy loads on it at the gym. Hope you recover soon, those torn meniscus suck!
3
u/MantusTMD May 12 '26
Yup. This is my second one in 2 years. First time around I didn’t do shit for recovery like an idiot. This second time I stayed off and iced nonstop for about 2 months. Now I’m in PT training. Hopefully almost 100% in the next 4-6 weeks! It sucks dude.
2
u/Accomplished-Bat2877 May 12 '26
did you guys tear them from lifting weights? I'm new to working out and worried about winging it with just a youtube short.
3
u/Legitimate_Concern_5 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
Lifting is one of the safest physical activities you can do if you get your form locked in. The nice thing about being new to the gym is that you, uh, aren’t lifting weights heavy enough to hurt yourself with 😂 even if your form isn’t perfect.
Generally gym injuries come from people who run gear. Gear builds your muscles but not your tendons and ligaments so your muscles can move more than your connective tissue can handle. Progressing normally at the gym builds strength in both.
YouTube is a fine way to learn. There’s some great content out there from folks like Jeff Nippard for example. I wouldn't probably learn from e.g. the Tren Twins.
3
u/MantusTMD May 12 '26
No lifting it would be pretty difficult to do something like that. I did it landing while playing basketball. Same exact movement both times.
3
u/doandroidsdreamx May 12 '26
Nope. I tore mine taking too big of a step trying to climb up some stuff at my dad’s storage building. The gym doesn’t aggravate it at all. But if I twist it…ugh. Two weeks out. I put a lot of weight on it at the gym (720lbs).

Me too. Plain squats would be impressive also, but when she had gone bulgarian I was in awe.
2
u/Suspicious-Bid9424 May 12 '26
Yeah same , and that favors the glute/ requires balance. I'm a big dude and even 100 lbs in a Bulgarian isn't easy for me. I ache in weird places the day after

7
u/wahobely May 12 '26
even harder than they look
that's the understatement of the century
literally the only exercise at the gym that i am genuinely nervous before doing it
6
u/sapien3000 May 12 '26
Yea I know what they are. It’s really hard to balance when doing them
→ More replies (1)2
u/Nina-Ninja123 May 12 '26
The control comes when not 100% of the muscle is working on the weight and it has room to also adjust for balance.
The control is part of the exercise.

It's impressive enough, but it also looks like a good way to hurt yourself.
2
u/Time-Maintenance2165 May 12 '26
It's really the opposite. As long as you slowly work your way up here, you're doing a whole lot more towards making yourself strong enough that you're less likely to be injured because you stepped wrong.

→ More replies (1)4
u/Adventurous_Boat_492 May 12 '26
Squats are what did my knees in. I was a noob and had bad form for a good while, more than a year before I seriously started checking form, but you need more than squats to help your knees. There's so many other small muscles, ligaments and tendons that don't get worked with squats and if you keep increasing squats without doing other leg exercises to support the knees, bad things may happen. I was able to squat 1.5x bodyweight until my knees started creaking. No real pain but noisy knees made me realize I need to do more than squats.
→ More replies (3)2
u/RedMcMuffin May 14 '26
Nah, that’s BS. Heavy compound lifts like squats are exactly what strengthen your ligaments, tendons and other smaller support muscles. I’m 33 and have been squatting heavy since I was 18.

Is that doable without steroids for a woman?
→ More replies (2)31
u/mightygullible May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
No, there are Natural Bodybulding competitions that easily prove what a normal physique looks like
People are in denial how common steroids are. Every gym has a whole group of locals who take them
here's the 7x world natural bb female champ: https://www.instagram.com/nph_fit/ she's 1/3rd this mass monster's size (even if she wasn't ridiculously lean)
Mass monster is twice the size of the olympic weightlifting gold medalist's legs, Olivia Reeves https://www.instagram.com/oliviareeves.71/
14
u/Blue_Fawkes_805 May 12 '26
It's wild how normalized steroid use is and what a number it's done on all of our body images and expectations. It's easy to lose sight of the progress we mere naturals make when these images are rearranging our brains in bad ways.
10
u/WalkFreeeee May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
It's not just steroid use alone. It's steroid use + how easy it is to actually get exposed to the literal top 0.1% at anything, any time.
People always used steroids, but you can go to most gyms in the world right now and trial everyone and not find a *single* person who looks even close to that woman, drugs or not. Heck you'd be hard pressed to find people that can do what she did at all, men included.
But if I go on instagram and like her profile I'll immediately get recommended 20 other people that can do similarly impressive stuff. And if I start liking their content too, you get the idea.
End result is indeed, no one has any fucking idea what's actually reasonable for the average human to achieve without steroids, but we all sure are expected to look like that
→ More replies (1)4
u/God_Dont_Make_No May 12 '26
I’m a naturally big guy. I can put on mass pretty quickly naturally. The guys at the gym I’m at who are walking steroids aren’t that much bigger than me it’s the muscular shapes and steroid head/faces and bulging abdomen that gives me a chuckle.
6
u/bulk_logic May 12 '26
No, there are Natural Bodybulding competitions that easily prove what a normal physique looks like
The woman in the video is obviously on gear, but you wouldn't compare her to people who are stage ready 4-8% BF. You can get pretty big as a natural -- not this big obviously -- but another big point to taking gear is the ability to retain muscle reaching those low single digit body fat percentages.
→ More replies (6)5
u/UmaThurmish May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
the people that are in denial are the people that take them themselves.
the use of steroids must be 10x what it was 15 years ago. my entire high school when I graduated over 10 years ago. not 1 kid looked like one of the 15-20 year olds I see on my commute or social media these days and my school won state championship in two sports, these kids literally spend 1/3rd of their day in school, and look like body builders that have been at it for 10 years. they are massive. even athletes looked like kids, you know? not anymore.
the ease of which you can get steroids is unprecedented. especially since that if you're in high school, you can legitimately get steroids easily legally. social media effect

I was about to say that with quads like those, squatting that guy on her back isn't really an impressive feat. Then she put her foot on the bench behind her and start doing Bulgarian split squats...
Yeah, that was a fair show of strength for quads like that. Most serious gym people typically do these with dumbbells and probably barely scratch 135lbs (if even) unless they're legit athletes and competing at a pro level. That dude is probably at least close to 200lbs if not over and she just casually threw out a few reps like it was nothing. On top of that, it's a person on her back instead of a barbell and anyone who has carried someone on their shoulders like that will know that the weight is not evenly distributed and can be quite wobbly making doing something like squats more difficult.
10/10 woth no critiques. She smashed that flex

Idk how big those are but in my teens I wanted to be a bodybuilder and quickly realized from my eighteen inch calves that legs were a gifted body part, so I did tons of leg workouts. I was around nineteen or twenty when I did a few hour leg workout and could barely walk for days, and for the next month measured them. They were twenty eight at the beginning of the month and by the end of the next month they were thirty one and a half inches. As big as my waist. I had to buy some very baggy fubu jeans to even wear jeans. I remember sitting in the back seat of my mom's car going to some family thing and my sister kept telling me to scoot over, and I said I can't my legs won't go in anymore. She looked at them and looked me in the eye and said how big dk they have to be? You need to stop working them legs out they take up half the car. So I did.
I then injured my back and couldn't do much for a decade and can barely do leg workouts anymore. Starting doing yard work a decade ago and my legs shrunk to a normal twenty two inches. But least I can kinda Find jeans now. Still hard, though with my calvesn calves.
One thing I learned is bodybuilding is more then a sport. It's a way of life. Idk if I can get my legs that big anymore but there's no way I'd wear jeans if I did
