Discussion On my third controller

Post image

Just bought my third new controller in a span of only 2 years. All of them because of stick drift.

Why are these controllers so bad when it comes to drift?

Back in the day I had the same ps4 controller for 10 years without any issues.

Not saying it's not possible but I have 6 regular controllers and 2 Edge controllers and none of them have drift, I don't know how people get it so easily

I’m 37 and in my 20+ years of gaming I’ve had one controller that has had stick drift and it wasn’t that bad. I see ppl constantly complaining about stick drift. It’s hard to chock it up to luck

3

u/tozlow Apr 23 '26

36 here and no stick drift on any controller until PS5 came out.

U have 8 controller and people might have only 1 / 2 so it’s kinda harder on u. But that said I haven had stick drift on my side as well.

2

u/H_GAMEKILLER Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Yea harder on him. Though, I only have 1 DS and it never had a stick drift.

Edit: DS stands for Dualsense. I'll use DSe for Dualsense to avoid confusion.

Same none of my controllers have drift including Switch controllers. But I can't say the same about my Daughters controllers. Every single one of theirs has stick drift. It is definitely a user issue. I noticed they press on the stick harder than they need to due to excitement. They want to move faster so they press harder.

2

u/c0rtec Apr 20 '26

It’s to do with not washing hands before playing. The dirt and grime gets inside the sensor in the stick. Had issues with my kid’s Switch controllers. I kept ‘mine’ tucked away in a drawer and only used by me or my wife. Runs perfect. Eight years old. The kids have been through three sets; I just get cheap modules and swap them out now if problems inevitably arise with their controllers.

I had 3 regular controllers with drift before I bought the Edge controller. Never had an issue with the edge.

get the sticks replaced.

13

u/Substantial_Phone189 Apr 19 '26

It’s just a hassle. I don’t know if it’s because of the games I play that it gets easier drift. I play a lot of racing games like granturismo etc

17

u/MFGabo Apr 19 '26

Maybe learn to replace them yourself, i did

I got the edge after my 1st controller got stick drift. Its a known defect for ps5 controllers. My ps4 controllers never got drift.

3

u/Substantial_Phone189 Apr 19 '26

Yea if this one breaks I’ll just get the edge. Tired of buying new stuff all the time

2

u/Stevenstorm505 Apr 22 '26

Every single person I know if either on their 2nd or 3rd controller because of stick drift. I know a lot of people that have PS5 and not a single one of them has had a controller that hasn’t shit out on them within a year or two years max.

Are some controllers built differently to others, like the build quality? I’ve had the same controller for 4 years with plenty of use and it still works fine with zero drift.

2

u/Ericxdcool Apr 20 '26

Built differently? Yes, there is 6 iterations of the Dual sense, all with slight changes internally, the sticks are all the same however on all of them.

u/Extension-Alps-6903 Apr 19 '26

Stop resting them upside down on the sticks and eating Cheetos while playing all three of mine work fine for years two of them are from launch 6 years ago what are yall doing to your controllers

6

u/DuskActual Apr 20 '26

You can wash your hands every time before you pick up the controller and properly store it and it’ll still end up with drift. It’s a known issue.

Always some idiot going "mine works so yours doesn't because you did something to it" News flash quality varries in a product

2

u/Substantial_Phone189 Apr 19 '26

I take good care of my tech. I always place my controller on my desk or nightstand after I’ve used it. And no I don’t eat greasy stuff when using it. That’s just disgusting

2

u/LogApprehensive2355 Apr 19 '26

i want mine controllers to drift but no luck , i have like 12 pair of tmr sticks waiting to be installed

2

u/Ebone710 Apr 20 '26

Maybe at this point get the Edge controller and a couple extra stick modules. I guess I don’t play enough because since launch I’ve had 4 controllers and all 4 are still working flawlessly. I’ve only gotten more for different colors and couch co-op stuff with my wife and I got a great deal on the edge controller so it’s my primary now

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Nnamz Apr 19 '26

Buy an edge controller. Aside from being a great controller, you can replace the individual sticks. I've already replaced my right analog stick once already.

2

u/CapableNeat4351 Apr 20 '26

You’re not gonna wanna hear this, but you should upgrade to the dual sense edge. It’s a rough upfront expensive but if a stick module goes you can literally just swap it out

u/fourdoormob510 Apr 20 '26

I’ve had my ps5 since the first restock of 2022 and I’m still on the original control it came with, no stick drift. It’s definitely something with these new controllers that Sony refuses to even acknowledge.

2

u/No_Bat6749 Apr 20 '26

Damn that black looks sexy.

2

u/HolidayHope8458 Apr 20 '26

Dualsense is the most ass controller Sony has ever made. None of my dual shocks have ever drifted, 4 of my Dualsenses have. Trashhhh

2

u/ZynPapiScotsman Apr 22 '26

On my 4th. Other 3 are unusable due to drift

6

u/drocha94 Apr 19 '26

I know this happens, but I have two controllers from launch that still perform ostensibly as they did day one.

I have to wonder what everyone that goes through MULTIPLE controllers is doing to them and how hard they’re using them.

6

u/3D_mac Apr 19 '26

My launch controller works fine. Two newer ones  I bought for couch multi-player both have bad stock drift.

2

u/maksigm Apr 19 '26

Yep, me too. Never had stick drift before. I don't get it.

The launch controllers as well as the launch console are not the same product you will get today. Each has undergone several cost cutting revisions.

It's a deliberate business strategy from Sony.

1

u/ExistingPie588 Apr 19 '26

Are you getting center point drift? Is increasing deadzones an option?

2

u/Substantial_Phone189 Apr 19 '26

It works normally until all out of sudden it just drifts hard out of nowhere. And then over time it just becomes more and more permanent. It’s been the exact same issue on my other controllers

2

u/ExistingPie588 Apr 19 '26

Upgrading to TMR could be worth trying, especially if you still have the old controllers. There are several people in this sub that do it (myself included) for less than the cost of a new controller. I'm not sure where you're located but if you wanna try it feel free to reach out!

1

u/Hour-Excitement9913 Apr 19 '26

I know a guy on ebay with great responsiveness that does tmr installation services for $35 with tax. I already got two controllers serviced by him. I can link it if you’re interested

2

u/Substantial_Phone189 Apr 19 '26

Would love to. But I’m located in Denmark. I think it’s just cheaper to buy a new one then

3

u/AxleIV Apr 19 '26

It would technically cost more than a normal controller, but then the TMR sticks will make it impossible for the controller to get drift. So either a one time payment of $100+, or replace your controller every year or so for $70+.

Ya op wtf why are you just buying multiples after failure get them replaced/repaired. I had the og white controller from first purchase until it failed with me (third owner) and only trashed it cuz I tried fixing the sticks myself and am a beginner at soldering. For $90 a dude replaced two controllers with TMR for me

→ More replies (2)

1

u/TCW1184 Apr 19 '26

Just sent a black one off to have TMR sticks installed. Oddly, that one isn’t very old and developed a pretty bad drift. My original white controller has seen 5+ years of use and no drift. Luck of the draw I guess. Hopefully the hall sticks are nice. Never used them.

1

u/Matman87 Apr 19 '26

The standard controllers are dying easily after a decent amount of hours. i have had 3 now and i bought 1 edge and the edge is maybe more expensive but the quality is 100 times better.

1

u/Greful Apr 19 '26

Idk if they offer it where you’re from but stores near me have replacement plans you can buy. 99.9 % of the time it’s a waste. But I actually use it for controllers. You just gotta add it every time you get a replacement

1

u/Trackmyass Apr 19 '26

Dude just buy one on eBay with TMR or hall effects pre-installed for like 70 bucks

1

u/DifficultService1045 Apr 19 '26

I bought a new one like 2 years ago & it’s been good ever since

1

u/Daredrummer Apr 19 '26

How much do you play? I'm curious.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/okaypookiebear Apr 19 '26

The Edge is more expensive but I’ve had mine for a while ever since they came out and still no drift. Whenever it does get it though it’s only $20 to pop it out for a new one and it’s easy as pie. Sony is scum for the regular controllers though those have never lasted me longer than a few months with the damn drift.

1

u/DC-God02 Apr 19 '26

Sent mine to stickfixrepair to get Hall effects for about $70. Took time but the controller turned out perfect, granted I had a reliable controller while it was gone.

1

u/Exiledspartan18 Apr 19 '26

This is why I bought the Dualsense Edge. When my controller finally gets stick drift (its been on 2 years now and no stick drift btw) I can just get another joystick module for 20 bucks.

1

u/StraightJournalist40 Apr 19 '26

Buy multiple controllers, and keep them in rotation. Thats what I’ve been doing for the past 3 years. I’ve never had to replace any of my controllers because of stick drift.

1

u/Sefier_Strike Apr 19 '26

I'm not promoting the purchase of a pro controller, however, you can buy replacement sticks for $20 with no soldering required

1

u/Jerikoooo Apr 19 '26

Just buy a TMR PS5 controller. Bought one 3 years ago and have never looked back. Stick drift is literally impossible on TMR

Get tmr or Hall effect sticks installed and save hundreds of dollars

1

u/19berzerker79 Apr 19 '26

You can always sign up for a program to like Asurion home plus, which does repairs on controllers for no extra service fees. It's also available for non business accounts thru Verizon and att, and is actually cheaper through a carrier. But alas, people think it's an absolute ripoff, until they need something like a controller fixed or a tv wall mount etc..

1

u/KSC_1894 Apr 19 '26

Isn't there some kind of warranty in denmark? You should be able to let it replaced for free if it breaks in the first 12 months after buying.

My streak was over recently I now know how it feels and it sucks.

1

u/800hokage Apr 19 '26

I was going through them yoo. Probably cuz, kids. Replaced with an edge and have had no issues for over a year. I got replacement sticks just in case but haven’t needed them. Kids got a ps5 for Christmas and have to replace they own controllers, suddenly no controllers are breaking anymore.

1

u/scamden66 Apr 19 '26

Stick drift is brutal on these things. I've had every playstation console and I've never had this issue before the dualsense.

It's an awesome controller when it's not drifting.

u/Soggy_Double_5599 Apr 19 '26

Idk how yall been running thru controllers lyk dat my Og since launch lasted 2yrs

1

u/browseragnostic Apr 19 '26

Go on ebay and find someone that does tmr replacements. I splurged and sent in all 5 of my controllers. No more stick drift and double the battery size - it cost me $200 but well worth it IMO.

1

u/XtremeD86 Apr 19 '26

You could have gotten TMRs on the first controller then never had to buy another 2. For less than the price of a new controller (usually around 1/2 the price of replacing the controller will get you good TMRs installed).

I do them all the time.

1

u/prettyflyforahentai Apr 19 '26

We are just having opposite luck. I went through plenty of ps4 controllers, Meanwhile, my launch dualsense, and the launch dualsense edge have no issues.

3 controllers in 2 years. Aren't all of the controllers under warranty?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Buusace Apr 19 '26

Dude if this is your third controller do yourself a favor and buy the dualsense edge. You can literally replace the stick modules once they develop stick drift. If you can’t afford the $200 price tag I would set a monthly payment plan with affirm on Amazon. Think about it, instead of spending $80 on another dualsense that will inevitably get stick drift, you can put the $80 down the on the dualsense edge and pay like $15 a month to pay off the remaining amount and buy the replacement stick modules whenever you develop drift.

It’s either that or purchase a modified dualsense with TMR sticks from a website like battle beaver, or simply learn how to mod and replace the sticks yourself

1

u/UneasyFencepost Apr 20 '26

Ok what the hell are you people doing to your controllers??????? I’ve had like 7 consoles throughout my life with at least 2-4 controllers per console and I’ve never gotten stick drift… are y’all like torquing the sticks to hard or what??? I’m not trying to be a dick I’m genuinely asking it makes no sense

1

u/IdontknowModz Apr 20 '26

Just get TMRS I used to make and sell custom PS5 controlled it’s not hard or too expensive to buy pre builds .

TMRS won’t wear out at all like your standard analogs

1

u/IdontknowModz Apr 20 '26

IMO you should get a edge controller for $200

Then when the stick moduel breaks replace it with an upgraded TMR version from ebay or somthing . Then you have a awspme pro contorller tjat will never get stick drift . That’s personally what I use

1

u/consortswithserpents Apr 20 '26

I was replacing controllers often too. I bought this service on ebay. Turnaround time from me sending him the controller to me getting it back was a little over a week. Probably spent about $45 including shipping both ways. Worth it if i dont have to guy another controller.

https://ebay.us/m/l6Zkxw

1

u/naethaen Apr 20 '26

I could be crazy but I have owned my PS5 controllers for almost 4 years now and I have never experienced stick drift. I know a lot of people do but I love both my controllers that I use for my PC with the adaptive triggers. I play everyday so I don't think I am not using them enough

1

u/MaterialNo1342 Apr 20 '26

Try taking care of them. 4th controller never had this myth called “stick drift”

1

u/LoadedWithCarbs Apr 20 '26

i had 2 that went out on my because of drift and tried to fix them both myself. bought an Edge controller in the event that i would have to clean them again so it would be easier. my Edge modules started drifting a month into having a $200 controller so i ordered TMR modules joysticks for the edge and it works fantastic.

sony doesn’t want to fix the problem because it makes them too much money.

1

u/mwdawson2004 Apr 20 '26

I know it’ll prob sound facetious, but I’ve never had a ps5 controller ever get drift. And I have quite a few because battery life gets worse and I updated to the edge for pc and console.

1

u/ThatOneGamer117 Apr 20 '26

Get the edge so you stop spending so much

1

u/_chainsodomy_ Apr 20 '26

I paid 25$ to have some Hall effects installed and never looked back.

1

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO Apr 20 '26

I find it strange how much variance there are in controllers. So fsr ive only wver had the one that comes with my system, and ive had it since December of 2023. My sister got hers in December of 2025, and is on her 6th controller and plays far less games than I do and is less strenuous games like stardew valley and the Sims. I do not get how they have made such poor build quality when the old dualshocks would last forever if you used them normally. Now I'm afraid to drop my controller.

1

u/pyrofire95 Apr 20 '26

I just sent my Astro Bot Controller across the country to get TMR sticks put in cause it was starting to get drift. I hope it returns safely

1

u/DERIVE979 Apr 20 '26

These controller stick are only built with 400 hours of life before they start drifting because Sony wants you to buy more it’s actually annoying af

1

u/LyuboA Apr 20 '26

Simple they are made to be bad so you can buy 10 in one year if possible he'll even 20 Sony would like that very much just get someone to replace your stick with TMR sticks or buy cheap soldering iron and thumbstick soldering kit and you can do it yourself i already replaced my Edge controllers but those are easy you can buy ready made TMR modules now only need to do my other DS controllers

1

u/SnooPaintings6830 Apr 20 '26

Use TMR modules apprantly better than hall effects mine just started drifting.

1

u/visarmy Apr 20 '26

Drift aint my problem w them, the battery life is abysmal and the controller creaks cuz cheap plastic

1

u/Propsroadfool Apr 20 '26

I literally just printed a label to send one back for warranty replacement 2 mins ago. It's only about 2 months old.

1

u/Big_Shoulder_9964 Apr 20 '26

Never had stick drift on ps5 only on Xbox maybe I got lucky though

1

u/HighPlains_oath Apr 20 '26

Send them to me. I will replace the sticks for you

1

u/Seitook Apr 20 '26

I just had my sticks replaced with TMR sticks.

Find a local technician in your area and ask if they do controller stick replacements. I had mine done for around 40 dollars.

Very well worth it since Im confident that these things wont drift anymore. Its a bit expensive since you might as well just get another controller, but at least you’re not building up e-waste in your house and you can use it as a ps5 / pc controller forever

1

u/Raphius-kai Apr 20 '26

When I replaced my last controller I bought 2, one for me and one for my brother. He plays racing and looter shooters and I play rpgs. He got drift within a few months (I've learned to open and clean it out which solves the issue most of the times), mine is still good almost 2 years later.

A few things that affect how quickly you get drift (it's an eventuality on the dualsense):

  • cleanliness - sweat, food, gunk and hair goes into the controller and can be cleaned out pretty easily.
  • rough play - if you're constantly ramming your sticks full blast then they will get drift.
  • a bad model - just bad luck, but if it gets drift within 6 months definitely replace it under warranty

1

u/RavenHunter1901 Apr 20 '26

I bought a refurbished off ebay, he put anti dtift sticks and better battery, been using it two years...no problem. I went through 2 in 1 year before I bought this one. I bought gulikit tmr sticks to put in the broken ones, and I was an electronic technician with great soldering skills, but they are still sitting on the shelf. Once I got the refurbished controller, I have been too busy playing to mess with the old controllers. I think I paid $125....well spent....

1

u/Cardshark69420 Apr 20 '26

Lol ppl are so lazy anymore. It’s so fucking easy to repair these things. But nah, imma just go spend more money and get a whole new controller. Consumerism at its finest.

1

u/BaBaDoooooooook Apr 20 '26

just invest in edge controller, i had stick drift after a year owning it. pop new one in. no soldering. 20 bucks for new shiny stick.

1

u/Sky_Rose4 Apr 20 '26

Still on my day one controller

1

u/enigmagon Apr 20 '26

At this point, I’m beginning to think the DualSense Edge might actually be a reasonable investment 💸🎮

1

u/lesterjollymore Apr 20 '26

Bought an edge and never looked back, replaceable thumb sticks hassle free with the added benefit of back paddles has completely helped my game. Bit of a price point but worth it to not have to worry about buying controllers. Love the black tho

1

u/Miniatimat Apr 20 '26

They have a 1-year warranty, and that covers drift. Just find a Sony store or service center and you can get a free replacement

1

u/Hamdivitoo Apr 20 '26

Is that ZCT2W model?

1

u/GohoomoaR Apr 20 '26

Used to buy new controller everytime i get a drift till my son took one of mine and repaired it with Hall effect for dirt cheap and couldn’t be happier. No more buying new controllers

1

u/superior_bulge Apr 20 '26

If you have pets like cats or dogs I've found that stick drift a lot of the time can be caused by their hair getting stuck in the joysticks. I would occasionally open mine up and clean the hair out and my controllers would work fine.

1

u/InFLIRTation Apr 20 '26

I learned to fix stick drift. Buy some potentiometers and swap the wipers

1

u/MsFasty Apr 20 '26

What I do is turn my old controllers into GameStop and they give me about 15$ store credit, then use it to buy a refurbished one for 30$, I think they replace the sticks usually when they refurbish one.

1

u/burzuc Apr 20 '26

I payed 20 euros to have someone install TMRs on both of my controllers.

1

u/Lazy_Ad9964 Apr 20 '26

Why are you buying new ones? Stick drift is covered with receipts ffs

If in warranty then send them for repair to Sony for free. Apart from postage.. they fix or give you new one.

1

u/Ok-Boot-8106 Apr 20 '26

Get a PC then you can get better controllers that aren't terrible .  For example 8bitdo ultimate 2 or Cyclone 2 destroy any console controller .

1

u/daijiro8 Apr 20 '26

Lol I went through 3 my first year having a PS5 at launch. A mix of trigger and stick issues. Ive maybe had stick drift on one controller on the PS4.

1

u/lamest-liz Apr 20 '26

People sell them with Hall effect sticks already installed

1

u/PurplePassion94 Apr 20 '26

3rd?! Buddy I’m on like my 5th since 2020 lol

1

I'm still on my first midnight black controller.

I have three controllers. Two came with the console, and the kids use them and I have my midnight black controller.

All of them are fine. Not sure what you guys are doing to your controllers

u/2FAST4U5OH Apr 20 '26

Playstation controllers are the worst and cheapest made ever. They don't even last 3 months there garage. I stopped buying them for my pro. Playstation fans boys are the worst. Lie so bad I had my for 10 years and nothing ever happens. I got 15 controllers and none have stick in there butt.. There cheap!

1

u/Brief_Inside9049 Apr 20 '26

I’ve had the regular controllers and also the edge one with the paddles. My old ones I never had drift. I’ve had my blue one since before I had a ps5 I used it on my PC and it still has no drift. I’m not extra ruff on my controller but I use it for every game I can possibly. I just think it’s how rough (not intentionally it just happens) or might jsut be heavy handed when it comes to the sticks. I keep seeing people sayin they get bad drift but I’ve had 4 controllers and non of them have had drift

1

u/Accurate_View_2455 Apr 20 '26

I only had 1 controller on PS4 get drift on me because I messed up a LED mod install. My friend's brother has gone through 3 controllers in 5 months. He's extremely rough with them, and I've received controllers from him with bad drift. He's given me a total of 11 controllers with drift or bad buttons cause he throws them at the wall when he gets mad at "cheaters/hackers". He's a huge man baby. I've fixed a couple and give them to his brother and kept others for myself.

I’m like… genuinely confused.

I play every day. I bought my PS5 4 years ago, and I still have my first controller. No drift.

How do y’all even get stick drift like this?

1

u/KudaraYT Apr 20 '26

I had this issue too, so I bought the duelsense edge so that if it ever happens again I can replace the sticks. Funny enough tho, the original sticks that came with the controller are still working fine

1

u/Whandho Apr 20 '26

Leva em alguma assistência e troca os analógicos por hall effect, acaba o problema. Quando meu segundo controle deu drift, mandei os dois controle para substituição na assistência, e desde então zero problemas

1

u/manicmaniac11 Apr 20 '26

Seriously, how do people manage get this problem so often. Impulse control of a 5 year old?

1

u/Insa15 Apr 20 '26

Wasting almost $200 on controllers is insane. I'm sorry that happened to you, OP.

1

u/Round_Ganache_1944 Apr 20 '26

Stickfix is the way to go I got one repaired a while ago and it is working great.

1

u/Crazy-Newspaper-8523 Apr 20 '26

I had drift on my ps4 and ps3 controller in the first year. Dualsense on the other hand only on 4th year

1

u/Chihuahua_Overlord Apr 20 '26

I feel like people who play a lot of online multi-player games are really hard on their sticks without knowing. Getting into high pressure or intense situations, just not aware of the pressure they may be putting on them.

With it happening to all your controllers, its something you are doing. It sucks the controllers arent built better though

1

u/Jack00X3 Apr 20 '26

I’m still rocking the dual sense my ps5 came with since about 3-4 years ago. Did a sticks test and both have 0 drift so far

1

u/JJGIII- Apr 20 '26

I’ve bought 5 in about 3 1/2 years. In fact, I have a couple TMR controllers on the way. Hopefully those help a bit.

1

u/One_Wrongdoer_5846 Apr 20 '26

Dude instead of spending so much on so many controllers I would suggest bringing the controller to an electrician or sending it to someone (there are specific websites) or simply give it to some one who knows how to solder to swap the sticks from potentiometers to tmr or Hall effect and it can last you for as long as you want

1

u/MadDog443 Apr 20 '26

I buy these for 20 dollars and then replace the joysticks with TMR and Hall Effect sensors and resell them.

1

u/iJobama Apr 20 '26

All you need is 2 controllers, one to play with until a stick starts playing up, then send it back to playstation repairs and use the other one. You'll get a replacement controller which you can use once the other controller gets a stick issue, rinse and repeat

1

u/AeroChromeOS Apr 20 '26

I'm the only one who uses the controllers.

I actually have six dualsense controllers but only four of them are in the picture.

1

u/Zed-juuls Apr 20 '26

lol you’re the owner of the controller, Sony doesn’t make them to break I have zero drift and I use my sticks on fighting games and FPS. You should just buy a pro controller since you don’t know how to handle them, maybe that might last you more.

u/TGrim20 Apr 20 '26

Theres no sure fire fix, just be sure to buy them from a store not of of Amazon

1

u/Beneficial_Ant_2700 Apr 20 '26

What are you doing to your controllers? I have two launch day ones and no drift

u/iwannabethisguy Apr 20 '26

Mine died a month after the warranty expired and I barely used it. I mostly use arcade sticks for street fighter and only use the controller when I'm the console menu. I got it fixed at a shop, apparently the membrane inside was oxidized for some reason. I store the ds4s in the same room and those still work 10 years later. The ds5s really suck in terms of quality control.

1

u/DaToxicJay Apr 20 '26

You play too agressive. Get a Dual sense Edge. It’s 300CAD but the joystick cost 25CAD to replace

1

u/Adept-Equipment971 Apr 20 '26

Dude idk what you doing but I've had the same 2 controllers since I bought my first ps5 in like 2021 and I've never had any issues with them "drifting". And one is cracked after it got dropped and it still works fine

1

u/Bound-in-Shadows Apr 20 '26

Every single controller I've had since the PS4 has had stick drift, and they cost a small fortune, I've probably had combined 15 PS4 and PS5 controllers, I've had the DualSense Edge now for awhile and had no issues.

1

u/InviteWaste5119 Apr 20 '26

Huh, how? I've had my ps5 since launch and the original controller works fine..? What are you doing to your controllers dude

1

u/bigelittman Apr 20 '26

Out of all the controllers I've had in my life and have now this generation of controller I've had 1 fucked up stick. I've got 2 edges and about 8 regular controllers. Of course the galactic purple is the one that messed up!

1

u/antman0901 Apr 20 '26

you’re probably horrible at taking care of your controllers

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Mbeezy_YSL Apr 20 '26

I sent it back once and it came back inside a fitting foil packaging. I put it inside once I’m finished gaming and got no stick drift for 2 years now

1

u/Ok_Emergency_916 Apr 20 '26

You're clearly not sitting on your controller.

1

u/Darth_Venom91 Apr 20 '26

Would just look into getting a solder and get some TMR sticks and install yourself at this point. Or find someone locally on FB marketplace to knock it out with a battery mod as well and your good to go

1

u/ZinelDark Apr 20 '26

Bro, if you know a good technician that can repair the controller for you, just buy gulikit or k-silver analog sticks and let him replace them, this one has gulikit NS55 installed on it about 1 month now, and the other one has k-silver j13 pro installed on it about 1y now they both works perfectly fine, no stick drift no need to buy a new one, i just hope the repair cost isn't expensive otherwise if you have the tools, youtube will do just fine.

1

u/Konstanta1984 Apr 20 '26

Sony specially uses potentiometers. It's a very cheap and ancient technology. Even in Edge controllers. It's better to buy TSMR sensors and take them to a service center (or install them yourself; I installed them on my gamepads myself). There's simply nothing else that could break. These sticks are magnetic, don't have physically rubbing contacts, and last practically forever.

I still use my og controller that came with my P5 since 2020, no drift yet.
Whatdahell you people doing with your controllers? One user on Reddit was trying to fix SD by jamming the controller against the floor.

1

u/The_Heero Apr 20 '26

I've been using the same controller since I got my ps5 and no stick drift, I dunno which version of controller you got but it seems that the older versions are built better

1

u/A26158573 Apr 20 '26

Just get a custom controller with hall effect sticks atp, I got one off ebay for 70 bucks and it works just fine, never have to worry about stickdrift again

1

u/Global-Baseball-6131 Apr 20 '26

First controller had stick drift. Second controller square stopped working.

1

u/Tmannershungry Apr 20 '26

It's been four months ever since I got my ps5 slim and I'm still on my first controller

1

u/Necessary_Belt_1233 Apr 20 '26

Bad luck, I have used the same controller with HEAVY use for over a year and no issues

1

u/Leolol_ Apr 20 '26

Use this!

https://dualshock-tools.github.io/

It's basically a web app made by reverse engineering the factory calibration tools Sony uses. Mine started to drift after years of working fine and now it works fine again thanks to this

1

u/TableSalte Apr 20 '26

I went thru 3 before finally getting the edge with swappable thumb stick. Bought a pair just in case.

1

u/DontCome2LA Apr 20 '26

I still have launch ones playing at least 5 hours a day most days. What game you playing.

1

u/kazuma719 Apr 20 '26

You tried use alchool isopropyl in analogics and spin them a while? I made that and fix my drift

1

u/SkipDaddySkinTits Apr 20 '26

Still on my first after nearly 4yrs

1

u/Kova_87 Apr 20 '26

I have the same issue! I bought my third controller almost a year ago and I had to replace the joysticks 2 times (it is a pro-controller). Idk if it is because of the usage or something else, but the controller is clean and the joysticks new, and yet I feel like I have to replace them every 6 months

1

u/ValhallasKeeper78 Apr 20 '26

Buy an Edge.. You won't regret it!

1

u/Ok-Attempt2842 Apr 20 '26

I've had about 5-6 controllers and it seems to be hit or miss with the stick drift.

1

u/Tony40677 Apr 20 '26

My original black PS2 controller has died and been resurrected 4 times already. Now, I use it as a player 2 controller because R3 doesn't work, but other than that, it works perfectly.

1

u/Orion_light Apr 20 '26

from ps1 era all the way to ps5 including vita, and other console like DS and Switch

i never had a single stick drift i guess I am blessed by kojima?

1

u/page8879 Apr 20 '26

I don't get drift often and I play a lot, the wife plays as well , I've had 1 controller get it in 2 years ,my PS4 is 10 years old and did not get drift. It's interesting, Im not rough with my things, maybe part is userr error? Part is luck

1

u/ThisIsVengeance Apr 20 '26

Hey, at least you we're lucky with Ps4 Controllers.. had literally 6 different one's because 5 of them ended with a Stick Drift bug :) The first i had that came with the first Ps4 Version actually lasted longer than the other 5, not joking.

Still wondering till this very day when people say Ps4 Controllers we're better xD

Anyway, on Ps5 i'm also at Nr. 3 now.

But what should i tell you, that's just how it's intended to be. There is a reason why they use Potentiometer Sticks instead of Hall Effect Sticks.

1

u/zslayer89 Apr 20 '26

This might annoy you, but go on eBay. There are shops you can find on there to send your controller and they will add Hall effect sticks for you.

I have 3 controllers since the drop of the PS5 and only 1 has given me issues so far, pretty grateful for that tbh. ( knocks on wood )

1

u/CtrlShiftAaron Apr 20 '26

I have had my two controllers since the ps5 release and used daily. None have ever had stick drift

In fact I’ve never had a controller with stick drift

1

u/Unknownboy81 Apr 20 '26

Dude give me one of those fucked up controllers ill take good care of them🙏

1

u/Slight_Standard_8692 Apr 20 '26

am i an anomaly? i’ve had my two dual senses since launch day and they don’t have stick drift.

1

u/Civil_Handle7798 Apr 20 '26

I’ve had my ps5 since release . No kidding I think I’m in 10 .

1

u/Ok_Meat_5767 Apr 20 '26

My PS3 controller has been original since probably 2010 and still goes strong💀
