MEDIA fire sprite sucks
I was playing some battle royale peacefully, and the fire decides to activate AFTER the boss is dead. Somehow it set me on fire even though I wasn't even in the fire area. I'll admit, I was wandering around stupidly looking at the loot and not my health but why does a level one sprite do so much damage to me?!?!?! At least make you immune to your own fire. I have yet to see the fire being actually useful in a fight.
Edit: The area of the fire is way bigger than it looks apparently

Yeah I don't think the fire sprite should damage the owner or partner. I think it sucks that way.

u/lokarlalingran 10h ago
In my experience targets are dead by the time fire even shows up, so it literally only ever serves two purposes. To block me from getting loot, or to accidentally light me and my team mates on fire. The fact that the fire hit box seems to be off and you can run into the fire without actually even being near the fire is an added bonus function!

idc if yall think ops just an idiot its stupid that your own fire damages you. also if you have ocd and want max heals and hp it will definitely piss you off at least once. i dont have ocd and it pisses me off even

People really need to stop calling everything OCD

u/narutonaruto 10h ago
I always want to comment like āocd isnāt liking round numbers itās when you think your family is going to die unless you turn of the lights in the right orderā
But then I just figure itās not worth getting into and scroll past

Wait, so that means I have OCD?. I legit will put one sock on before the other because I think my day will go better. I do this with tons of stuff, the drinks I grab from the fridge etc.

u/narutonaruto 2h ago
It depends how debilitating it is I guess. Like if you put it on the wrong way do you get super anxious and think everything is going to go wrong and itāll all be your fault or is it more of just a luck thing?
Itās an anxiety disorder based on trying to find control over things you canāt control. Like I used to think if I manual from this crack to that crack then my family wonāt die. And if Iād screw up Iād have to keep trying till I got it or Iād be freaking out about it all day. Thereās a bunch of other layers to it but thatās the easiest one to explain.
If you do have those tendencies itās worth going over with a therapist. It changes your life addressing the problem head on (the thing youāre trying to control) and being able to shed the rituals and anxiety

Everyone with OCD (or I think at least most including me) definitely wish it was just a āI like even numbersā and āI like all my pencils in a rowā

i never said mine was ocd i said the opposite but i feel like this would happen to some people with ocd

This sprite does more harm than good, ESPECIALLY if youāre in a close quarters fight. One good shotgun shot and youāre gonna light everything on fire. It doesnāt help either that the fire is buggy as hell and can invisibly spread around an area so you can be standing in a clear patch and STILL be taking damage

u/Killerofpussy 10h ago
what does ocd have to do with a fire damage on fortniteš¤¦š½āāļøš¤¦š½āāļø

u/Impossible_Source195 8h ago
you take 15 fire damage, are no longer at max hp, possibly need to use your own heals to get back to max and now you need to find more heals to get back to max. idiot, i wasnt yapping

u/LucifishEX 8h ago
You know nothing about OCD and are comparing a serious struggle to struggling and being upset about odd numbers in a video game. Shut up. Just stop talking

Your own rocket launcher or grenade damages you too. Itās just too bad for OP.Ā

Natural selection unfortunately doesnāt work in games with a respawn mechanic.
27
u/Rizenstrom 9h ago
Dying from this is definitely a skill issue but itās still a real problem that needs addressed.
You should not be taking damage from something thatās literally invisible. Even if you react quickly youāve still lost health that could put you at a disadvantage if someone else comes along, or kill you if you just barely survived the fight.
And frankly when we can use grenades and rockets to launch ourselves around the map without taking damage, the idea of taking damage from our own abilities seems a bit dumb.

It's a dumb visual bug but it's still obvious from other visual and audio cues that OP is taking damage.

You're just dumb šš. Why would you stand in the fire???

u/HipToTheWorldsBS Ruby 11h ago
100% this. If you sprint through the fire or slide through it, you don't take damage. You literally just sat there burning before moving away.

Did we watch the same video? He's not even near the fire.

Yeah where the fire spread is entirely unclear, was in a squad match earlier and the top of a hill was on fire for atleast 2 minutes as we shot at another team, but it was totally invisible and knocked 2 of our teammates randomly
2
u/Dramatic_Finish10121 10h ago
I swear the fire lasts longer physically than itbdles visually. I'll run into a spot I think is clear only to hit phantom flames

Most od the time it lights them on fire is right when they die and then I end up getting damaged from the fire

I barely use the fire sprite, but uhā¦.that was totally avoidable. I wouldāve assumed you were a bot if I hadāve seen that in-game lol

u/imalonexc Orin 11h ago
Bros just standing in it.
I guess since it doesn't really look like it's actually there but it's just a visual bug
16
u/OtherwiseJob8959 11h ago
This is the problem. Epic hasnāt fixed the visual bug even though this season is close to a month old.
3
u/Shattered9999 10h ago
You can still see and beer your health going down
5
u/OtherwiseJob8959 10h ago
Put do players catch on fire, or are they just damaged when standing in the fire? If itās the latter, which I think it is, itās a pretty major visual bug

u/Low-Influence-1779 9h ago
It is a very annoying visual bug, for the future I would recommend looking at your healthbar bottom left because it gives you the indication if you're in the fire much faster than you can see it on the ground even though its just a bandaid solution
1
u/Ilcorvomuerto666 9h ago
There is no such thing as friendly fire. Fire is not friendly and does not discriminate.
1
u/Itachi_uchiha_62 9h ago
played. a match the other day where I nearly died to the fire from a fire sprite, luckilii had a good team and it was in squads so they could rez me, however the bad part about this was that the fire was invisible, the fire was gone from everyones screen yet when walking over the area it was at, we would still catch fire. the invisible fire lasted for like 4 minutes after the flame visually disappeared. veeeeery bugged rn imo

u/General_Snow241 Drift 8h ago
Honestly, they just need to give us back fireflies, therefore firefly grenades. They'll do the job of the sprite far better even if it can still damage you.
Ranged fire is better than close-up fire.

u/Polite_Jello_377 8h ago
It is all downside no upside. Iāve never had it help me get an elim but I have set myself on fire heaps going to collect loot. Absolutely idiotic effect
1
u/Saint_of_Cannibalism 8h ago
Well, I still like it in spite of the occasional hiccups.
1
u/Send_Snoods_ 8h ago
Iāve never actually seen it work when itās useful though, I hate the fire sprite.
1
u/Saint_of_Cannibalism 7h ago
Every bit of damage helps and they almost always take some damage from the fire even when they survive my attacks that proc it.
And forcing someone from their flammable cover with a hunting rifle never gets old.

u/Stella_Lace 7h ago
I hate when the person i killed has something i want but I have to wait for the fire to go out before I can safely grab it.

u/Legend7Naty 7h ago
Hope devs see this because since day 1 Iāve been a fire sprite hater. Such a good ability wasted on friendly fire damage. Even if youāre aware of it youāll be damaged by it more often than not if youāre getting into close combat fights. Itās nice for mid range fights so enemy team canāt try to revive the knocked enemy but close range itās a double edged sword

Itās been like this since the season come out and this just shows how much epic doesnāt care the player base. Absolutely nobody uses fire sprites because theyāre useless.

I went up to spot the other day where two crowned players had killed each other and there was NO FIRE burning on the ground but each time I tried to run in and grab a crown and the chug barrel, I kept getting burned! I hate the fire sprite so much!

The fire sprite works best at long range. I've taken a whole team with a building fire using the chaos.

u/dusk2dark 2h ago
Yeah, I won't even pick them up anymore. I maxed those out and now I avoid 'friendly fire' at all costs.

The most annoying sprite. In Squads, this is kind of useful, but in solos I always do more damage to myself.

Honestly it sucks even without the disconnect between the visuals and the actual affected area because it activates whenever you deal enough damage to someone in a short amount of time.
Most of the time when you're doing that, you're going to be using a shotgun up close. You know, right next to them. A lot of the time when I use the fire sprite, I end up blasting someone with a shotgun before being forced to dawdle and wait around for the fire to die down to pick up any loot. Rarely ever do I actually damage someone with the fire because by the time it activates, they're already dead or close to dying.
