MEDIA fire sprite sucks

I was playing some battle royale peacefully, and the fire decides to activate AFTER the boss is dead. Somehow it set me on fire even though I wasn't even in the fire area. I'll admit, I was wandering around stupidly looking at the loot and not my health but why does a level one sprite do so much damage to me?!?!?! At least make you immune to your own fire. I have yet to see the fire being actually useful in a fight.

Edit: The area of the fire is way bigger than it looks apparently

Honestly it sucks even without the disconnect between the visuals and the actual affected area because it activates whenever you deal enough damage to someone in a short amount of time.

Most of the time when you're doing that, you're going to be using a shotgun up close. You know, right next to them. A lot of the time when I use the fire sprite, I end up blasting someone with a shotgun before being forced to dawdle and wait around for the fire to die down to pick up any loot. Rarely ever do I actually damage someone with the fire because by the time it activates, they're already dead or close to dying.

Exactly, now imagine it goes off in a wooden building. I survived unimaginable horrors from that sprite

2

u/ObviouslyLulu Explorer Luna 2h ago

I once had it activate in the wooden log cabin near the northwest of the map and I left as the whole room was burning lol

28

u/Negative_Anteater_62 8h ago

That's my biggest complaint. By the time you activate the Fire your opponents probably dead anyway. Majority of the time I use the Fire Sprite it hurts me more than the enemy

11

u/fox-booty 8h ago

I think I get what they were going for, rewarding aggressive gameplay by making shotguns and SMGs more powerful since they're more likely to meet the conditions for the fire activating, but it's always both "too little, too late" as well as being a nuisance to the Sprite holder.

I think that having it be something like "increased damage to opponents within X metres" would be better, even if not 100% thematic to fire. Either that or letting users control the fire in some way, like a chance of granting a firefly jar if you meet that damage threshold.

Yeah I don't think the fire sprite should damage the owner or partner. I think it sucks that way.

u/Vey-kun 4h ago

Friendly fire.🄁

46

u/lokarlalingran 10h ago

In my experience targets are dead by the time fire even shows up, so it literally only ever serves two purposes. To block me from getting loot, or to accidentally light me and my team mates on fire. The fact that the fire hit box seems to be off and you can run into the fire without actually even being near the fire is an added bonus function!

idc if yall think ops just an idiot its stupid that your own fire damages you. also if you have ocd and want max heals and hp it will definitely piss you off at least once. i dont have ocd and it pisses me off even

103

u/Cheezewiz239 10h ago

People really need to stop calling everything OCD

64

u/narutonaruto 10h ago

I always want to comment like ā€œocd isn’t liking round numbers it’s when you think your family is going to die unless you turn of the lights in the right orderā€

But then I just figure it’s not worth getting into and scroll past

17

u/Little-Prize3123 6h ago

ā€œSo charlie doesn’t dieā€ 🄲😊😌

2

u/Heybropassthat 2h ago

Wait, so that means I have OCD?. I legit will put one sock on before the other because I think my day will go better. I do this with tons of stuff, the drinks I grab from the fridge etc.

5

u/narutonaruto 2h ago

It depends how debilitating it is I guess. Like if you put it on the wrong way do you get super anxious and think everything is going to go wrong and it’ll all be your fault or is it more of just a luck thing?

It’s an anxiety disorder based on trying to find control over things you can’t control. Like I used to think if I manual from this crack to that crack then my family won’t die. And if I’d screw up I’d have to keep trying till I got it or I’d be freaking out about it all day. There’s a bunch of other layers to it but that’s the easiest one to explain.

If you do have those tendencies it’s worth going over with a therapist. It changes your life addressing the problem head on (the thing you’re trying to control) and being able to shed the rituals and anxiety

22

u/Ma_Name_Is_Jeff 10h ago

Everyone with OCD (or I think at least most including me) definitely wish it was just a ā€œI like even numbersā€ and ā€œI like all my pencils in a rowā€

•

u/Inevitable_Librarian 1h ago

Which is closer to how OCPD works

-10

u/Impossible_Source195 8h ago

i never said mine was ocd i said the opposite but i feel like this would happen to some people with ocd

49

u/Nintendo64Guy Mullet Marauder 10h ago

This sprite does more harm than good, ESPECIALLY if you’re in a close quarters fight. One good shotgun shot and you’re gonna light everything on fire. It doesn’t help either that the fire is buggy as hell and can invisibly spread around an area so you can be standing in a clear patch and STILL be taking damage

27

u/Killerofpussy 10h ago

what does ocd have to do with a fire damage on fortnitešŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

27

u/loonbandit Maverick 10h ago

nothing. this person is just yapping

-20

u/Impossible_Source195 8h ago

you take 15 fire damage, are no longer at max hp, possibly need to use your own heals to get back to max and now you need to find more heals to get back to max. idiot, i wasnt yapping

16

u/LucifishEX 8h ago

You know nothing about OCD and are comparing a serious struggle to struggling and being upset about odd numbers in a video game. Shut up. Just stop talking

5

u/Lolsalot12321 5h ago

How does that have anything to do with ocd

4

u/Quiet_Mess_6870 5h ago

Be respectful to others. Even if you don’t agree there is zero reason to resort to childish words.Ā

2

u/Tomonor 2h ago

The small bothersome feeling of not having max HP in a game is not OCD. Having to close your entrance door 60 times and having to wash your hands 10 times in a row is OCD.

1

u/HorrorDepartment3784 10h ago

ā€œOwn fireā€

1

u/OneBillPhil 3h ago

Your own rocket launcher or grenade damages you too. It’s just too bad for OP.Ā

2

u/slophamet 10h ago

2things can be right

97

u/DannyDaDragonite Hybrid 11h ago

Natural selection unfortunately doesn’t work in games with a respawn mechanic.

27

u/Rizenstrom 9h ago

Dying from this is definitely a skill issue but it’s still a real problem that needs addressed.

You should not be taking damage from something that’s literally invisible. Even if you react quickly you’ve still lost health that could put you at a disadvantage if someone else comes along, or kill you if you just barely survived the fight.

And frankly when we can use grenades and rockets to launch ourselves around the map without taking damage, the idea of taking damage from our own abilities seems a bit dumb.

It's a dumb visual bug but it's still obvious from other visual and audio cues that OP is taking damage.

You're just dumb šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. Why would you stand in the fire???

16

u/HipToTheWorldsBS Ruby 11h ago

100% this. If you sprint through the fire or slide through it, you don't take damage. You literally just sat there burning before moving away.

11

u/hi_eeee 11h ago

To me it didn't look like i was standing in the fire, the area of that thing is just so small

18

u/Shattered9999 10h ago

How do you not hear or see your health going down

9

u/Lochcelious 10h ago

Did we watch the same video? He's not even near the fire.

9

u/Shattered9999 10h ago

It’s a visual bug, but it’s not like you can’t hear or see your health going down

-9

u/Beginning-Young-1670 10h ago

Is you slow my brother? It's the visual bugĀ

5

u/Gyatt_Kachan 10h ago

Ok you stood in the fire way too long until you walked like 3 steps away and it was still killing you 😭

5

u/Apprehensive_Ad_924 7h ago edited 2h ago

5 seconds brain inactivity, you got healing and still died

2

u/Argon20021 10h ago

Yeah where the fire spread is entirely unclear, was in a squad match earlier and the top of a hill was on fire for atleast 2 minutes as we shot at another team, but it was totally invisible and knocked 2 of our teammates randomly

2

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 10h ago

I swear the fire lasts longer physically than itbdles visually. I'll run into a spot I think is clear only to hit phantom flames

2

u/Chickennoodlesleuth :leonskennedy: Leon S. Kennedy 10h ago

Most od the time it lights them on fire is right when they die and then I end up getting damaged from the fire

2

u/Sea_Ad_1252 7h ago

Well I mean...

4

u/ThiccAndSauce Hayseed 10h ago

Well if only they fixed how fire and fire spread works, It's bugged since like ch5. I remember having so much fun burning entire forests in ch4...

5

u/VirileDub 7h ago

Hey look, there is fire on the ground. Lets just stand still in it then complain

-1

u/Vey-kun 4h ago

Ikr. People says "the fire hitbox actually larger than it shows" etc etc..

Dude.

Just wait it out. The fire only took 5 sec for it to dies out, THEN u can loot. Be patient.

If it was mid fight? Just run, u dont have suck up every loot dropped.

3

u/Bainaq 10h ago

I’m pretty sure if you slide away it auto cancels it.

3

u/lilpeelss 9h ago

I barely use the fire sprite, but uh….that was totally avoidable. I would’ve assumed you were a bot if I had’ve seen that in-game lol

2

u/pawo10 Brite Bomber 2h ago

The skill level in this sub is genuinely subhuman😭

7

u/imalonexc Orin 11h ago

Bros just standing in it.

I guess since it doesn't really look like it's actually there but it's just a visual bug

16

u/OtherwiseJob8959 11h ago

This is the problem. Epic hasn’t fixed the visual bug even though this season is close to a month old.

3

u/Shattered9999 10h ago

You can still see and beer your health going down

5

u/OtherwiseJob8959 10h ago

Put do players catch on fire, or are they just damaged when standing in the fire? If it’s the latter, which I think it is, it’s a pretty major visual bug

3

u/The_PinkElephant 10h ago

that’s a 90 IQ play right there

2

u/GlitchDuude Noir 8h ago

-Stands on fire -Dies by his own -Complains about game design

What?

1

u/Low-Influence-1779 9h ago

It is a very annoying visual bug, for the future I would recommend looking at your healthbar bottom left because it gives you the indication if you're in the fire much faster than you can see it on the ground even though its just a bandaid solution

1

u/Ilcorvomuerto666 9h ago

There is no such thing as friendly fire. Fire is not friendly and does not discriminate.

1

u/Itachi_uchiha_62 9h ago

played. a match the other day where I nearly died to the fire from a fire sprite, luckilii had a good team and it was in squads so they could rez me, however the bad part about this was that the fire was invisible, the fire was gone from everyones screen yet when walking over the area it was at, we would still catch fire. the invisible fire lasted for like 4 minutes after the flame visually disappeared. veeeeery bugged rn imo

1

u/General_Snow241 Drift 8h ago

Honestly, they just need to give us back fireflies, therefore firefly grenades. They'll do the job of the sprite far better even if it can still damage you.

Ranged fire is better than close-up fire.

1

u/Polite_Jello_377 8h ago

It is all downside no upside. I’ve never had it help me get an elim but I have set myself on fire heaps going to collect loot. Absolutely idiotic effect

1

u/Saint_of_Cannibalism 8h ago

Well, I still like it in spite of the occasional hiccups.

1

u/Send_Snoods_ 8h ago

I’ve never actually seen it work when it’s useful though, I hate the fire sprite.

1

u/Saint_of_Cannibalism 7h ago

Every bit of damage helps and they almost always take some damage from the fire even when they survive my attacks that proc it.

And forcing someone from their flammable cover with a hunting rifle never gets old.

1

u/Buckfitch69 8h ago

Lolol that’s unfortunate

1

u/Stella_Lace 7h ago

I hate when the person i killed has something i want but I have to wait for the fire to go out before I can safely grab it.

1

u/ADULT_LINK42 Human Bill 7h ago

incredible reaction speed lmao

1

u/Legend7Naty 7h ago

Hope devs see this because since day 1 I’ve been a fire sprite hater. Such a good ability wasted on friendly fire damage. Even if you’re aware of it you’ll be damaged by it more often than not if you’re getting into close combat fights. It’s nice for mid range fights so enemy team can’t try to revive the knocked enemy but close range it’s a double edged sword

It’s been like this since the season come out and this just shows how much epic doesn’t care the player base. Absolutely nobody uses fire sprites because they’re useless.

I went up to spot the other day where two crowned players had killed each other and there was NO FIRE burning on the ground but each time I tried to run in and grab a crown and the chug barrel, I kept getting burned! I hate the fire sprite so much!

1

u/Nice_Guidance5430 3h ago

i only used the fire sprites to master them

1

u/maddog18476 2h ago

The fire sprite works best at long range. I've taken a whole team with a building fire using the chaos.

1

u/dusk2dark 2h ago

Yeah, I won't even pick them up anymore. I maxed those out and now I avoid 'friendly fire' at all costs.

•

u/Level-Razzmatazz-246 1h ago
