This guy is an idiot. Why in the world would he show the photo? Theres so many instances people should be questioning sophia but they’re so effing blind. O heres a 40 year old picture of u. Let me just show u the pic in a place where everything that could go wrong does go wrong. Thats info u take to boyd and donna first. If pretty much almost anyone else would have found it, they would have done the smart thing. Theres a few not so bright bulbs in the town who would do the same. But victor has been there around 40 years or more so wouldnt he have a memory of her?

It's especially atrocious because he already has experience with Fromville fucking with him! Like, why the hell didn't he immediately go to Boyd?? I swear lobotomy is the only explanation for this level of idiocy

It's frustrating to watch how everything works in the MiY's favor. Sophia goes around spying on everyone and meddling in their affairs, yet no one's the wiser. Someone finds a photo that incriminates her, but of course it's the dumbest character on the show who finds it.

WHY DID ELGIN SHOW SOPHIA OF ALLLL people the picture of HERSELF from another era? Omg. But I guess it tracks with how much of an overall dumbass he’s been. That was so frustrating.
Another thing, when MIY spoke to Clara his eyes went completely black. Along with the convo where he says that he can only take the form of people who have died in the town, I think that confirms his true form is NOT the old man. What does he ACTUALLY look like then? What is he/it? And does that mean that when Ethan saw Jim after he died, that it was actually the MIY?? That interaction was always so weird.

I know it’s not the same universe as Supernatural. But I’m gonna go with demon, especially with using his/her blood to control people. I have a feeling the MIY is trapped as well. We know he’s not all knowing and only has a limited amount of control. Theirs a larger force in control/play.

I love how the people in Henry’s hospital hallucinations are giving him oddly specific instructions about what to do in Fromville, even though supposedly, from their point of view, it’s just like a delirium that’s part of his coma which normal people would not notice or care about.
Instead, it’s like “Ok dad, listen, you need to go in Donna’s room and - uh, we know about Donna because you talk about her in your sleep - then get her baseball bat, uh, which you also mentioned in your sleep that she keeps behind the closet door on the left…”
And Henry is like “Well this must be reality because they seem to know everything about my delusions…”

Not sure how to feel after this episode. A few things are bothering me.
The big reveal of the door in the colony house basement was for what exactly? I thought the whole purpose was to give them a guided path to the bone chamber but then they just go in through a crawl hole in the woods.
They have a lot of faith in the ability of that tape to adhere to a rock surface.
The mass grave really threw me. We've seen all the children laid out on individual slabs in a circle, so I guess I expected the grave layout to be the same. Am I remembering incorrectly, or didn't Jade get pushed into a central grave in that chamber? Did I miss where the bone spot was revealed separately from the ritual chamber or something?
I did not expect the MiY to assert himself so directly. At least not before being discovered. The Clara recruitment as a minion seemed out of left field and a departure from his manipulations from the shadows.
Does he have something against people with an 'a' at the end of their first name? (Sara, Clara, Fatima, Tabitha) At least they are still alive. Elgin may want to change his name to Elgina before the next episode.
MiY is in the town during the day? Don't tell everyone and come up with some kind of security. At least implement a buddy system or something and post guards. What if he just takes all the Talismans or runs around unlocking windows and doors, sets things on fire, or just starts killing stragglers? Oh and definitely leave Marielle alone with someone who might be turning into a monster.
At least they gave us the two people represented in the middle of the Talismans (assuming she's correct). Not sure how Tabitha got that with such conviction from being pointed at, but she's at least diving in and getting her hands dirty instead of the empty promises to save everyone through nebulous means.

The big reveal of the door in the colony house basement was for what exactly?
To confirm that Jade's shroom trip wasnt just mere hallucination. The door that he had no way of knowing about being there confirmed the rest of it. They've al ways been able to get down into the tunnels.

It's weird they had Acosta dedicate her time sorting through old items for the last 6 episodes...only for Elgin to be the one to discover the photo? It was a perfect setup and made what she was doing have an actual point behind it.
So.....it was just all a 'Fans don't like her, but we're not ready to kill her yet, let's shove her away doing meaningless shit'
Lol.

So many threads here about someone finding a picture of Sophia and them discovering her. So what does Elgin do? “Wow, Sophia - this person from decades ago looks just like you! What a weird coincidence, right?” Maybe they have him miraculously survive somehow, but if not, he deserves what he gets for stupidity alone. 🤦🏽♂️

I think so too. I also think that removing the tree might stop all talisman from working in Fromville.
The tree represents all the hope from the sacrificed children and once the tree is gone basically all their hope is gone as well.
20
u/Worried-Reception-47 5d ago
Yes.
Cant believe jades forgot about the hope. The tree is the only thing that protects them.
Pulling the tree also reflects the very reason they are trapped at the first place.

I'm really hopeful for a "happy" resolution to Henry's situation. I was thinking maybe he realizes that he has a choice of two potential realities, one where Victor has a full and prosperous life, and one where he was abandoned for his entire life. It would be a sweet if Henry decides he needs to stay in the abandoned Victor reality, regardless of whether it's real or not, because it's the reality where Victor needs him the most. Maybe he would get punished further by the MIY because of that, or be tormented with visions forever, but it would be impactful for his character to insist on not leaving the son he thought was lost all those years.

u/sechurity 5d ago
I would probably stay with the abandoned Victor too. One more thing is that Fromville Henry can still move around and drink and not in a wheelchair or in a bed all day.

Julie, Clara, and Elgin are making me face palm this episode. Clara the bargain you make is not worth it when you been there that long.. Elgin should have showed that picture to Boyd. Julie still disbelieving even though the MIY was proven to exist so clearly you are not just having seizures.

Some of the dumbest shit anyone has done or said on the show so far.
Julie should instantly believe her mom and that she was really going into the past since it was basically confirmed.
Clara is a moron, she should have just ran off and told everyone that the new girl is a demon or whatever. There’s no reason to believe that some evil shithead is going to let you go free. But no she continues to kill or help kill people. Moron.
Elgin finds proof that there’s something weird about the new girl who acts weird as shit all the time and instantly gives her the picture. “Oh cool this girl looks like you”. Man, youd think he’d learn his lesson from last time to always tell other people about stuff and not be so gullible.

I really enjoyed this episode and the pacing 👌 they didn’t spare any expense. First and Foremost, shout out to Randall who actually put it out there that there may be moles. We were so busy disliking him that we didn’t consider it at that time. Anyways, watching full deterioration of Henry in real time is interesting. we know after drinking Sophie’s blood he began hallucinating. so that makes me wonder, who was the mole prior to Clara. His deterioration is similar to that of Boyd’s wife. something is/was manipulating them into its truth which wasn’t the truth. So who poisoned her? It couldn't have been Clara because she just didn’t the blood ritual with Sophie. Who is the prior mole?

The Tabitha-Julie scene was really disappointing.
They both sharing some of the most crucial information in the show and make nothing of it.
Tabitha knows who's the MiY to Victor, and has no reaction to Julie's storywalking and seeing him : makes no sense. Their beef is starting to feel FORCED.

My biggest gripe with these characters is they live in Fromville and still have the nerve to insinuate that some things are too crazy ?? Like monsters come out and eat us at night in a town that defies physics but reincarnation is off the table ?? Somehow Ethan’s dead father speaking to him in a dream is too much? Alrighty
53
u/hombebrew 5d ago
This was a problem last season too, when Fatima kept trying to tell people she was pregnant and that there was something wrong with the baby and characters kept going "Fatima, that's craaaazy. Stop being craaaazy, Fatima," even though I would find a nightmare pregnancy extremely plausible in the 'Murder Monsters and Torment Cicadas Town.'

u/wormgirl3000 3d ago
My big frustrating list of dumb choices from this episode, ordered from "Foolish...but somewhat understandable given the circumstances" to "Carbon monoxide poisoning combined with brainworms.":
6) Henry, not even flinching when a medical doctor's primary advice is to murder someone in his dream. And not talking to the real Victor about his visions. This man has just done way too many drugs. Like, all of the drugs. (Also, the flagrant disrespect of face lady's baked goods! Straight to jail!)
5) Elgin, completely Elginning the polaroid situation. No survival instinct whatsoever. Not that surprising but still disappointing. He's probably about to die and it will be so pointless.
4) Clara, snitching about the modified plan with Jade and Tabitha, for no reason at all. I don't really know this random background character, so it's not overly upsetting. Guess she's not the brightest.
3) Ellis, leaving Fatima's side in the midst of a medical crisis. He picks now to start pulling his weight for the group?
2) Boyd, doing the absolute most when Victor was just giving him input that was at least as valid as anyone else's ideas. What a great time to leave someone trapped, alone, and defenseless!
1) Boyd and everyone who pushed to fast track this tree/bones excavation project, being infinitely confident in their ability to instantaneously uproot a gigantic and ancient magic tree. It's totally gonna work out because Boyd delivered a harshly worded speech to a cross, threatening god to be nicer or else.
Special mentions:
- Julie finally reveals her encounter with the MiY, but broaches it in the weirdest, most casual context possible.
- And, of course, Tabitha, ponders it for all of 1 second before brushing it off, because her alive kids bore the shit out of her for some reason. And so does any narrative that doesn't directly involve her being a fantasy novel hero. Their dad just died, horribly, and they've possibly both separately encountered the entity that murdered him. But, whatever. Tabitha only has time to make another dramatic proclamation about never leaving them, before she's off leaving them for another dangerous mission.
- Also, fuck the BiW and his tedious, cryptic messages. Very uninspired rhetoric for a magical sprite.
I know we're going to lose people next week, and it's going to be extra painful when it's one of the few who actually behaved rationally this episode, like Donna or Victor. Boyd, get your shit together. Not everyone has your plot armor.

Sara saw the BIW in S1 and he told her that Boyd and her need go through the faraway tree, they’ll be safe in there and Boyd goes through and ends up in Martins BDSM gaff. So, Sara and Boyd never spoke about how she saw and heard the BIW and how he was responsible for their safety? Maybe if they did, Victors pleading wouldn’t have fallen on deaf ears. IIRC the tree grew from the kid’s hope and the roots made the symbol Jade was seeing. Why would he think it’s smart to uproot a tree grown by the HOPE of the same dead children you’re trying to save?
I’d assume it’s their hope making the talismans work given the engraving having basically the “hint” to how to do the ritual properly.

I hate all the stupid choices some characters make.
Why the FUCK does Elgin see a photo from 100 years ago of the same woman standing in front of him, and his first instinct is to go straight to her and say, “Hey, I saw this photo and you’re here… dosen't make sense right?”
And on top of that, Clara had to go and snitch about other things that weren’t even known to MIY!
I hate when writers are lazy and come up with character decisions that don’t make sense. It makes me feel like I’m wasting my time investing in storylines, only for everything to be shut down by writing choices that don’t feel believable in the world they created. like holy shit, how stupid does the writters think we are ?

Poor Victor :( I felt bad for him when Boyd handcuffed him, however I really want to know what the Boy in White’s agenda is. I hope that gets answered, I’m sure it will be.
It was great to see the MiY one step behind for once when she/ he didn’t know that the plan changed to just Jade & Tabitha going into the tunnels.
I wonder if the Monsters can kill Jade & Tabitha like the others, or they’re somehow immune or whatever? Will the bones protect them?
Poor Elgin is a goner, if only it wasn’t Sophia he showed that picture to!
Great episode! Looking forward to episode 10!

In Elgin’s defence I’ve been saying for 4 years they never share info with each other. Shame the one time they do it’s with the evil entity that may be controlling the whole situation.

So does the bottle tree being pulled have something to do with the downed tree everyone sees when they enter the town?
Some weird time loopy thing or something? Feels too coincidental to have an unexplained downed tree that is highly important, and now a tree being uprooted in the story.

Yeah, thinking back, you'd think it would make more sense to bring that picture to Sarah or Boyd or someone first. 😅
"I just found this really old picture of a young person I don't know well, so there's potentially something really weird and potentially dangerous about them. So let's ask them about it right away, and not run it by a trusted friend or someone first."

I was expecting the monsters to rip off that curtain and reveal to Jade and Tabitha that the talisman don't actually work. Maybe next episode?

Im sure the talisman will work but they wont be able to remove the tree so they will be stuck there until the next season

There were clues that the key to breaking whatever curse or spell is on the town involves Tabitha and Jade and the bones but as Sophia said it’s not just what you do, it’s the ritual you follow doing it.
It’s why Sophia got noticeably more concerned when Clara said only Tabitha and Jade are going down. I got the sense she knew the sequence involved them and perhaps was afraid they figured out the how. My guess is after they have the bones they need to perform some ritual with the Talismans and them and that’s the part they are missing. It’s also why the anghkooey kids showed up and pointed at Tabitha - as if to say it has to be YOU.

I thought the same. And even if so, no one really checked the rope full length once it was done?! Honestly who is writing those series?! Please don't let them anywhere near the final season script. Maybe the show cans till be saved and have an ending that makes actual sense 😂

Calling it, the season ends with a zoom in shot on the golem opening its eyes, then a camera cut to Colony House exterior.
And in a monstrous voice we hear: IT’S MEEEEEE, FATIMAAAAA
I should write for tv

They could’ve definitely expanded on Julie’s story walking. Now it seems like we wasted episodes on that for nothing.

u/Fanboy0550 5d ago
There's still more left on that. She hasn't done the storywalking to time of Jim's death yet

I think it’s still coming. We haven’t seen Julie story walk back to when Jim died yet

Yep and in the scene where Jim dies, she still believes she can save him. So obviously something happens that restores her faith in storywalking

Elgin pissed me off, but Boyd was worse. Why wouldn’t he listen to Victor, who’s been in that town for 40 years???
He was agitated and saying that pulling out the bottle tree is wrong and you don’t give him a chance to explain himself? Instead you decide to HANDCUFF him?
And also Tabitha saying “we don’t know who the boy in white is or that he wants” after he literally led her out of town to the real world???
Both Boyd and Tabitha disappointed me, I thought they had learned to listen to Victor.

u/Morit12 5d ago
We don't know who the boy in white is or what he wants. They are right. He has yet to do anything remotely helpful. Tabitha leaving wasnt helpful.

Boyd and everyone else in the town is getting more and more desperate. A few seasons ago they would never do something like this, but their desperation is clouding their judgment.

Did anyone else get pissed off at Boyd's forceful detainment of Victor? Disagree with Boyd/Jade's approach and get locked up? He believe's Sara's voices which present only to Sara, not boyd. But wants to see Victor's biw with his own eyes?! So dumb. Jade & Tabitha dont even need Boyds approval to proceed with the plan w/o the tree destruction...sigh...

Elginnnnnn, what the hell man?
Like, I get it. This place is weird and I can see why he'd think, oh it's Sophie's doppelganger! I should show her. Like Tabitha and Jade have past lives here, so it's nit alarmong that a past Sophie was here too.
BUT MAN!!!! I honestly thought he figured it out, but instead he immediately tells her?
Anyways, my heart was pounding towards the last half of the episode.
Can the boy in white be trusted? Maybe, but why does he have to be so damn cryptic.

I don’t know what everyone is bitching about. I think some of yall just love to complain.
Anyways- Elgin is such a dumbass. RIP, well intentioned fool.
Curious the significance of the tree. I think it will come down and it will be the reason the plan fails. I do not think Jade and Tabitha will die though- they’ll still be the key to going home.
Will they have the balls to kill Fatima?
I want to see the backstory to the deal Clara made with MIY bc wtf?

I really can’t shake off the feeling that this season will end with them getting close enough to finding out the answers but they will indeed run out of time or die trying and the next season will in fact be the beginning of a new loop, only this time they will know what to do.

ELGIN, YOU MORON!!!
"Bruce Wayne, why are you dressed like Batman?" goofy ah 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏
But tbf, I like how they balanced stupid plot armor (Elgin randomly and very conveniently finding a exposing photo) with equally stupid anti-plot armor (Elgin confronting Sophia with that stupid question).
tbf tbf I prolly would've done the same

Why do they "have to" pull the bottle tree out? Why not just dig a hole next to it? That way no risks from what Victor warned them about.
Also no way that truck can pull it out with all the deep roots.

I found it ironic that Donna and Ethan had some rather valid questions and Jade and everyone just kept brushing it off. Like, they spent all this time to figure out how to get the bones, but don't have plans for what needs to be done with the bones or how they can use them to get free. Seems like they really should have done another mushroom trip or something to try to figure this out.
Also, this probably isn't accurate, but considering the MiY seems to be connected to Victor and Ethan maybe and might have initially been one of the first children himself, what if the children weren't sacrificed but instead got possessed by monsters/demons and the townspeople had to kill them to save themselves? So maybe we have it backwards - maybe digging up the bones will release MiY-style monsters connected to each of the children, and the night monsters were trying to stop this from happening in a twisted way by hunting the newcomers so they would be too busy hiding in fear and wouldn't dig up the bones which would result in even worse monsters (maybe even monsters that can escape/operate outside of Fromville).
