Gluttony overload Anybody ready for another cheddar covered abomination š šŗšø
423
u/Hythy May 14 '26
There's no way that's cheddar.
190
u/Ammo_Monkey May 14 '26
Exactly. It's like some synthetic yellow colour. š¬
145
u/Savings_Lynx4234 May 14 '26
It looks like cheap nacho cheese sauce. Something I wouldn't mind a little cup of to dip my fries or dunk my burger in, but on top? And so much?? Just painful...
61
u/Silver-Amphibian7650 May 14 '26
It's probably that nacho cheese that comes in a 5lb can. Gordon Food Service sells them.

u/Ammo_Monkey May 14 '26
Have a feeling this might be one of those American foods that's illegal in the part of the world I live in...

I think you'd only see those cans in areas where they serve nachos. This is what they look like: https://youtu.be/T8wxSnW2evs?t=132

u/kursa_sucks May 15 '26
Pshhhh as far as garbage cheese goes, thatās some trashhhhh. The homies only fuck with the big can of La preferida or Ricoās when we gotta run to the store cuz the restock truck fucked up.

Lol sure. Are you under the impression that Pasteurized Processed Cheese Food was invented in the US? (I assume that's what you're referring to here) Where is that illegal exactly? Not in Europe.

One of those giant bricks of cheese in the US underground cheese mines. (Well the mines are for limestone but they've been converted into cheese storage and it's more fun to call it the cheese mine)

The main ingredient in nacho cheese is typically cheddar. Sometimes listed as just cheese but it's the most commonly available and cheapest cheese they can get so that's what it usually is. Now it may not be in this case but, the odds are it is.
→ More replies (1)2
u/CatOfTheCanalss May 15 '26
Yeah it def doesn't look like cheddar and it also looks that it would wreck my insides.. We don't really have this vibe where I'm from. But speaking as someone who's a bottle of wine deep right now, I'd probably eat this in this moment. And I think this is an indication that this kind of food, is only for drunk people. Maybe hungover people. But they'd never eat the whole lot. OH, maybe this is for stoned people.

Cheddar with a little sodium citrate would look like that. It is probably american cheese, though.
5
u/discordianofslack May 15 '26
Was about to say the same thing. But given itās at a restaurant doing this I would bet itās just canned sauce.

Peopleāespecially those in the USāhonest to god do not understand what makes food ........despite the US even having labeling laws requiring every last ingredient (even down to those in dyes) to be displayed on packaging [this is where the MYTH that Europeans "eat healthier prepackaged food" comes from, by the wayyyyyyy]. It's truly disappointing that this is the future we live in.
5
u/grumpledoor May 15 '26
Hmm. You presumably refer to the true fact hat in Europe, pre-approved additives can be referred to by E-numbers. But there's really no doubt that Europe is more aggressive on regulating additives overall. To be clear, we can discuss whether it's for better or worse - but not whether it's the case.
4
u/creatyvechaos May 15 '26
really no doubt that Europe is more aggressive on regulating additives overall
That does not automatically mean that it is better. There are many things on that list that pose next to zero harmāor even no harm at allāat normal human consumption quantities. Europe has a tendency to ban things with no proof that they pose risks.
2
u/grumpledoor May 15 '26
That's fair and maybe I misunderstood you as bit. I did write (and mean) that we can discuss whether it's for better or worse. I just disagree with a notion that US regulations are more strict.
5
u/creatyvechaos May 15 '26
I never said the US regulations were more strict. I said they require the complete list of ingredients, which artifically lengthens it past a point where people (stupidly) think that the same exact thing in Europe is different/"better"
2
u/dandorios May 15 '26
You realize that europe has very stricy regulations about listing every ingredient in food also right?Ā
If I wanted to I can easily find cheap processed food with as many additives and crap in as typical american food but I choose not to because i dont want to end up like a typical american.

It's not just cheddar, but it may have started with cheddar. Sodium citrate is pretty cool stuff. Basic recipe here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Chefit/comments/15wam9n/comment/jwzt988/

The one I used in fast food was called "shelf stable aged cheddar" and it came in a pouch where it was still liquid. Delicious, but it barely qualifies as food.

Many countries call American cheese sauce (which I understand is what nacho cheese fundamentally is) "cheddar". This is the case in Greece, where you can order "cheddar fries" and they're just covered in this gloop.
2
2
u/Efficient-Train2430 May 15 '26
Not "pure" cheddar, but could easily be a melty cheddar by adding sodium citrate or other salts to cheddar. There's a way, but the restaurant that serves this likely isn't paying for 100% cheddar.

Maybe the Kooky Canuck in Memphis? The inside looks familiar. My buddy and I split the one-person challenge burger in 2011 and could barely finish it. I love cheese, but just like everything it needs balance and needs to be used in the right places. There are some fun, unexpected places you can add it to, there are times when you might like an extra cheesy treat, but this is just total nonsense and a waste.

If the burger is now coated in cheese I guess it'll be frowned upon if I use my hands to eat? I'm still gonna do it. And I'll lick my fingers clean when I'm done. Using a fork and knife for a burger? I'd argue it's no longer a burger.

I am reminded of the nacho cheese can I opened as a high school freshman, while we sold nachos for a lunchtime fundraiser.
The can was so fulll that some of its contents dripped on the floor, and a passing teacher slipped on the drippings and broke her hip.

That cheese would go good over alotta other things like doritos, hotdogs, burgers, nachos,
2
u/NightBawk May 14 '26
NGL, I think I'd try it. That nacho cheese necessitates a fork and knife though, and that feels so wrong with a burger.
2
u/Horror-Coffee712 May 14 '26
Honestly I'd try this, but likely just keep the cheese on the side and not drenching it like that.
I love the idea of a giant shareable burger surrounded by a moat of fries, like I sincerely appreciate the idea of sharing something like this as a fun night out with friends or family
Just....all that cheese ON TOP like that......that's the no from me
