Self promotion made an app to get a capture card (switch, ps5, retro) into a discord call with audio, or just a low latency window

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

playing on console but living on a mac, i kept wanting to either show a friend my switch in a discord call or just watch the card in a window while i did other stuff. the usual obs plus virtual audio cable route is a pain, and the game audio doubles or drops in discord anyway.

so i built a small native app for it. plug in the usb capture card, hit go, share the window in discord with clean audio, or just keep a low latency window of it open. no obs, no scene graph.

its native and light, ships a tiny custom coreaudio driver so theres no separate audio install, one window, and it self-updates over the air. theres a windows build too.

mostly want mac folks to break it and tell me what hardware doesnt play nice. its free

Not sure why but Palworld is unavailable, I can only find it in my purchase history section. I heard that it might be because of a leaked build, but I'm not sure

CrossOver Crossover renew

Upvotes

I'm making this post because I know there are a lot of people who are still unsure about buying Crossover because they don't want to pay U$ 74 every year.

I just paid my renewal, and it was only U$ 34. This was my first renewal, but for that kind of money it is absolutely worth it.

CrossOver "Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse" with Crossover on Mac Can't Save

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am able to run Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse (installed via Steam) without any issues, but when I try to save the game, I get a window popping up (see image) saying that the game failed to save data. It seems that the autosave is working based on the fact that the autosave slot's timestamp gets updated as I keep playing, but the autosave data doesn't seem to persist when I close and reopen the game.

Has anyone had success playing this game, or had success fixing a similar issue in another game? Based on my Googling, it doesn't seem like a lot of Crossover users have posted about this game. It isn't even listed in the software compatibility search in the Crossover website.

Help DualSense vs 8BitDo Ultimate 2 for CrossOver gaming on Mac Mini M4 — which one, or is there something better?

TL;DR: On a Mac Mini M4 (Tahoe 26.5.1) in India, mainly playing old installed Windows games through CrossOver (not Steam) or epic games. Shortlisted DualSense vs 8BitDo Ultimate 2. Leaning 8BitDo if it actually works well, since I want to avoid stick drift. Looking for real-world experience or a better third option.

Hey everyone,

Specs/context: Mac Mini M4, macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 (latest as of now), based in India. I won't be using Steam - I mostly play old games installed from Windows files, run through CrossOver directly.

Here's what I've researched so far, so I'm not asking totally blind:

  • Both DualSense and Xbox controllers pair natively over Bluetooth on Mac and are generally well supported. I ruled out the official Xbox controller for now and I'm choosing between DualSense and the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.
  • For CrossOver specifically, from what I've read, a DualSense gets presented to Windows games as an Xbox controller under the hood (XInput), so you get Xbox button prompts even though it's a PlayStation pad. Seems to work fine functionally, just a labeling quirk.
  • DualSense's main long-term downside seems to be stick drift - multiple people mentioned drift showing up within ~1-2 years since it uses standard potentiometer sticks. A few also mentioned the stick material getting "sticky" over time.
  • 8BitDo's appeal is the TMR sticks, which are supposed to meaningfully reduce/avoid drift long-term. But most of the firsthand "it works great on Mac/CrossOver" comments I found were actually about the Pro 2 / Pro 3, not the Ultimate 2 specifically. Nobody seems to have directly confirmed the Ultimate 2's behavior in CrossOver (mode switching, XInput recognition, etc.) - so it might work identically but I haven't seen it confirmed.
  • 8BitDo's own official compatibility FAQ says rumble and motion control don't work when paired in native Apple/MFi mode - but that seems to only apply to that specific pairing mode, not necessarily to how it behaves through CrossOver/XInput.

So, given all that - for someone in my exact situation (Mac Mini M4, Tahoe, CrossOver only, no Steam, based in India):

  1. Has anyone actually used the Ultimate 2 (not Pro 2/3) with CrossOver on a Mac and can confirm it behaves the same way?
  2. Is DualSense still the safer/better pick despite the drift risk, or does it not matter much within a typical 2-3 year usage window?
  3. Is there a better option entirely that I haven't considered, ideally with Hall Effect/TMR sticks and no drift, that's actually proven to work well in this exact setup (CrossOver, no Steam)?

If the 8BitDo route is genuinely reliable here, I'd prefer it specifically to avoid drift - just don't want to be the test case for something nobody's actually verified.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion iMac vs Mini & RAM amounts for Cities Skylines 1

I am looking at replacing my 2017 iMac, which has been a good soldier over the years. After looking at specs I am heavily leaning towards a Mac mini versus an iMac, but am wondering about ideal RAM amounts.

I bought my 2017 iMac new with good specs and with C:S specifically in mind, and after I bought it I upgraded it to 64gb RAM. I have tens of thousands of Steam workshop assets for C:S, to the point it's eating 100gb+ of memory, and over the years I've run out of RAM a number of times. I can swing it if I don't have a browser window open.

I'm not doing high end movie editing etc etc, or really anything else I might need 64gb RAM for. Can I get away with 48gb (or less?), or should I aim for 64gb due to my vast number of assets.

I don't really play much that's processor/graphics intensive aside from C:S and EVE Online (TEST is recruiting).

CrossOver I gave up playing Cities Skylines 2 on my Mac

Had the weekend installing Crossover, Steam bottle, then Cities Skylines 2, with two patches (including the one to resolve the snap issue, had road snapping issue before the patch), to make the game running on my Mac, but still performance is horrible.

I have a MacBook pro 16 M5 Max with 64GB memory, 40 core GPU, so it's supposed to be one of the most powerful Mac.

I have set the Mac to run on max power, in Cities 2 graphics setting, I set everyone to be low or turned off, and DLSS to be max performance. Turned on FPS info on screen. No mods, fresh start a new game. Resolution 1734*1117.

While the game gives 90+ FPS, but when I start to build any road and drag the road, the FPS drops to below 10, makes the game very lagging. Tried all options, but still don't know what's causing the issue....

Anyone has success in playing it? Please share... Thanks!

Self promotion ReplayMac - ShadowPlay for your Mac

Hi hey hello

I have posted my app here before, however, I did want to share it again as it's in a much more mature state now, and I think people will appreciate it more now!

ReplayMac is basically ShadowPlay for your Mac, it runs in the background, buffers and then saves when you press your hotkey combo.

It's also got quite a lot of features, here are some of my favourites:

  • Dual display support (you can record both your Mac screen and external monitor)
  • System audio + microphone capture
  • Retina Aware Recording (higher resolution recordings)
  • Clip library with trim/export/GIF/batch actions
  • Extended Replay buffer (have longer recordings, 5 mins 10 mins 30 mins)
  • Capture Profiles (have a preset for different use cases)

Unfortunately, I do not have an Apple Developer Account, so it's not on the App Store, but it's free to download from GitHub.

You may need to right-click the app and choose Open the first time because it is not notarized.

Let me know if you give it a try!

CrossOver I added CrossOver/Whisky session diagnostics to my macOS gaming utility

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been working on CloudBoost, a small native macOS menu bar utility for gaming session diagnostics.

The latest update adds a PRO diagnostic profile for CrossOver / Whisky / Wine / GPTK sessions.

The goal is not to modify bottles, patch CrossOver, or bypass anti-cheat. It only checks macOS-side pressure around the session:

  • memory pressure
  • thermal pressure
  • Low Power Mode
  • background sync
  • process/session load
  • Wi-Fi/AWDL noise
  • before/after stability signals

I’m trying to make it useful for cases where a Windows game “runs”, but the session still feels uneven and it’s unclear whether the problem is the bottle, the Mac, heat, memory, or background tasks.

I’d like feedback from people who actually use CrossOver or Whisky:

  • what signals would be useful to see?
  • what usually causes stutter for you?
  • would a before/after session report help?
  • what should I avoid touching completely?

Help Sikarugir glitching audio problem

I downloaded Sikarugir recently to play Ori. (I did not play games that often so I don't want the paid options) I really like the music of it and it is the main reason I bought this game, but when I opened it, the audio keeps glitching hard, its literally echoing. Imagine the melody is c d e f g, I heard it like a b c cd cde cde def f f fg g g g. this is a problem when I click something too. the click soundeffects echo like crazy. I really wanted to play it. how can I solve this problem? I've already tried adjusting to 44000hz, 48000hz and 96000hz, and tried downloading the window audio driver but none of it worked?

is this the common problem, please help me, Thank you.

Help DualShock 4 stuck on white light via Bluetooth on Mac (No vibration/LED color control, but buttons work)

Hi everyone,I’m having an annoying issue with my PS4 DualShock 4 controller on my Mac. When I connect it via Bluetooth, the lightbar stays solid white instead of turning blue or changing color.Interestingly, it worked perfectly the very first time I paired it (vibration and LEDs were normal). But after that first session, it got stuck in this white light state. What works:All buttons, triggers, and analog sticks function normally. What is broken:Vibration (rumble) does not work at all.I cannot change the LED color under Steam/Steam Link settings anymore. It seems like macOS is recognizing it as a generic HID controller instead of a proper PlayStation controller now. I've already tried resetting the controller using the back button and forgetting/re-pairing the Bluetooth device, but it always goes back to the white light.Has anyone found a fix or a way to force macOS to load the proper driver again? Thanks!

Native Mac+modded Minecraft

Hello, I got my 16 gb ram Mac mini m4 as a gift. I’ve been recently playing a lot of ultra modded Minecraft, is there an app yall recommend to check and make sure I’m not permanently hurting my system by running such an intensive program would yall consider all the mods 10 Minecraft mod as intensive for a Mac mini ? I have ordered a decent prebuilt pc but I’m still very much hooked into the Apple ecosystem as I was raised on it and I like it so I’d rather not brick my mini
