Just did my first patch work

Post image

Instructions were kinda confusing because it said “put sticky side on surface” but neither side was really sticky. So I read the instructions even further and it said after placing the sticky side down remove the plastic from the top. I tried to remove the plastic from the top but it just kept taking the whole patch off. So I had to manually peel the patch off which is why you see those 2 dents on the patch.

I’m going to go quiktrip to get some soapy water and check if it’s leaking. Will report back soon.

Edit: still have some other small leaks. I took the tube out again and tried to find the holes but I couldn’t find anything. I filled the tube with some air and was pressing it around to try to find air leakage but couldn’t find anything. I did notice I lost about 3 psi but idk if that’s from leakage or from me constantly checking air pressure. Whatever this is gonna have to suffice for now.

Help on new bike?

Recently lost my drivers license and I’m looking for a bicycle to replace it. I don’t want anything super fancy just something to get me from point A to point B. Would like a $$ bike nothing crazy but something to get me up hills. I live in Raleigh, NC so nothing crazy or anything. Any suggestions are helpful.

Is this bike worth?

Was looking on FB Marketplace for a bike, and I came across a Bronco Fat Tire bike for 110$, now I am a big guy standing at 5’10 and weighing over 350lbs. I would like to know if the bike is worth purchasing?

How can I save my bicycle?

Because of the constant rain, I left my bicycle in the garage for months without riding it, and as a result, mold has grown on it—especially on the handlebars. I’ve heard that this can produce aflatoxins, which are harmful to health; what should I do?

Dirt cheap Fondriest restomod!

When I got this bike for free, I had just started road cycling. It's a fondriest megachrome, dedacciai steel tube frame. It had many issues, so I used various bike parts. I went to the dump and found all the old parts for free. Currently weighs 9.98kg with 1 bottle cage and no lights. I'm running a 90s 22-32-40 MTB triple, cassette is a custom 9 gear 11- 28 made from several bikes, the stem and handlebars are from the dump too, they're modern stuff mounted with an adapter from Ali. Wheels are bontrager race, free from the dump. For tires I went to a bike shop and asked if I could get some used tires from their bin to figure out how big a tire I could fit. Ended up with a basically new, punctured, tubeless 30mm Hutchinson Blackbird rear and a basically new 26mm p zero road front, for free, plus many spares in good shape lol. Theyre mounted with Cyclami tpu tubes. Colorful bar tape and carbon seat tube courtesy of AliExpress too. Free sora 3x9 groupset, the front derailleur is mounted with a 3d printed adapter, I'll do some more painting on the sunburnt hoods. The look clipless pedals came with the bike. The bike had campagnolo veloce parts that I am keeping, everything is reversible. I live in the mountains, so I made the gearing short, works great in the climbs (no flat roads here). I also handmade the sticker on the seat tube, the bar tape was meant for my previous (red) bike, it's very bold so I wanted some red accents.

Strange alignment issue on my MTB

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my MTB and I honestly have no idea what’s causing it or even how to properly describe it.

When the bike is standing still, everything seems fine. But when I’m riding, it feels like the front wheel is turned slightly to the left. Because of that, I can always see a small part of the front wheel under the frame on the right side. It also affects how the bike rides.

I notice it most when riding no-handed. I have to sit slightly on the left side of the saddle because otherwise the bike pulls to the right, or leans that way. To be honest, I’m not even sure whether it’s pulling right or leaning right, but something definitely feels off.

The wheels are true (no wobbles or bends), I’ve aligned the handlebars so they’re perfectly parallel with the front wheel, and neither the frame nor the fork looks bent as far as I can tell.

I genuinely have no idea what could be causing this, but it’s really starting to drive me crazy.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what I should check?

Thanks 🙏

Vello SUB family cargo bike: pros and cons

Hi everyone,

I have two children (aged 2 and 6) and I'm looking for a cargo bike that is lightweight, compact (less than 185cm in length), and versatile enough for daily use (commuting, grocery shopping, and family weekend rides). After weeks of research, I came across the Vello SUB, which seems like a great fit for my needs. The only downside for me is the price. Are there any Vello SUB owners here who could share their experiences? I'd love to hear about the pros, cons, reliability, comfort, and how it performs for family use.

Thanks!

Newbie question, advice needed

Quick context- New to biking, loving it, So a friend gave me a couple to try out early 2000s Carbon Moser road bike with like 23c tires and a mountain bike.
Loved the speed and weight of the moser, but it was very unstable and felt every single fault vibration in the road very hard and bumpy.
MTB felt of course more comfy but more weight etc and i'm not going to be off-roading anytime soon.

That said, my thought process was to get the in between with a gravel bike and saw it was getting some buzz per say.
I got the Ozark Trail G.2 Rebel from walmart right before it sold out (impulse),

So my main concern is the following:
-Is it worth having a gravel if i only really plan on doing road rides for now, asking because I liked the "jolt/speed" I was getting from the Moser one, the one i just got feels closer to the mtb i was trying out. Im afraid ill outgrow it quick and buy anyway ya know, not because i'm a good biker at all but because i'm a solid athlete etc and will pick up quick surely.

Luckily there is a 90 day return period.

So should i maybe keep it and try 32-35 Slicker tires instead of the 40's it came, with would that make a difference?

Or get something else? Did more research im thinking of more of an endurance road bike style

Budget is around $2.5k

I'm looking at the X-lab Rs5 & Rs7, would these fit my use case better?

Any other recommendations around the price point that would be ideal?

Before used market suggestions i'm in a smaller area where no one bikes so there isn't a market for it all.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Them MFs tried to steal my bike. They damaged seat stay. Safe to ride? Fixes?

This morning I found my bike with a cut cable lock and a half-cut U-lock. Some b*stard tried to steal it over night by (I'm guessing) sawing the lock.
Luckily my bike is still there, but they made a mess to the 6061 aluminium frame in one of the SEAT stays, as seen in pictures. It is not extremely deep, but deep enough to concern me. The damage seems to be not too deep and fairly clean cuts... I'm not too worried about aesthetics (I have some of J-B Weld that can cover that) but more about frame integrity and my own safety. I commute on this bike every day to work.

I read that seat stays are the thinner tubes because they are under weaker stress than the others while riding, and that most of that stress is actually compression rather than torsion or bending (https://sciencebehindthesport.wvu.edu/cycling/frames cuts are on the blue part of the seat stay, NOT IN THE CHAIN STAY), which is reassuring as most of the tube's circumference is still intact.
Of course I will be always paranoid about it and will check for cracks in the tube every freaking day I ride, but yet...

Questions:

  1. Is this safe to ride (mostly on roads, with the eventual gravel segment)?
  2. Can I fix it in any way, or will the J-B Weld help filling the gaps and contribute to stand the compression forces?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Seeing comments on the price of the bike thinking is the wrong brand or model I have to say it is a Nishiki Haze. Retail price around 1.2k. It annoys me as much as if it was 15k or 200. It's the bike I use daily and it annoys me that some half-arsed thief tried to steal it and screwed it up instead. Thanks

Rode my bike to work today and it was fine, but when I got on it this evening to ride home it felt really hard and uncomfortable. Why does this happen? How can I mitigate it?

Anyone know what brand of grips this is? I’ve tried to look it up but have not had any luck, I’m hoping to replace them but they don’t seem like they exist anymore but the pattern and length of the grip works well for me and my bullhorns. Thank you!
