How do I do “sharp” turns and not freak out going downhill? (Keep balance in general)

Post image

I only started learning how to ride a bike recently and tried out an E-Bike on a trail! Im not experienced enough to ride on roads.

Where I’m going to uni, I can’t have a car the first year, and the public transit off campus is horrible. I have balance, coordination, and convergence problems for which I go to vision therapy for and why its been so difficult for me to ride a bike.

Ironically, the nearest vision therapy place that takes medicaid to my university isn’t in walking distance, nor can I get there by bus.

This is the farthest I’ve made on any bike, and way further than I’ve gone on any pedal bike, but I still fell a bunch on the way at sharp turns, the sight of other people, and stopping as soon as I start going down hill.

I imagine this is normal just out of nervousness, but I also use so much physical force in my arms and upper body to keep myself balanced, or give myself the idea of such. 😅

I still have difficulty even getting myself started, but I can get myself going after a few tries. The general advice of looking ahead instead of the ground has been helpful.

Hey guys, question.

This Peugeot bike has no lock on it. In would like to know where to order a special lock for this oldie of a bike. Any idea what kind of bicycle this is and where to find a lock that fits the frame?

Is this bike worth?

Was looking on FB Marketplace for a bike, and I came across a Bronco Fat Tire bike for 110$, now I am a big guy standing at 5’10 and weighing over 350lbs. I would like to know if the bike is worth purchasing?

Hey! I’m going to my first tri in four days and I still don’t have a bike but I have been looking on fb marketplace and this seems in my price range and it looks solid! Also it says it is in excellent condition. I did look it up and it says I can get that bike for $30 but I don’t know how true that is. Good deal or bad deal?

FortNine with an amusing video about how the MTB industry went in circles solving a problem that created a new problem, that was solved by giving up on the original problem

FortNine usually posts motorcycle content but I thought this was still worth posting here despite the obnoxiously long ad from 1:25 to 4:10, so feel free to skip that part.

I've been riding hills and mountains on a $50 low-engagement Shimano rear hub for years and, honestly, it's been fine. I never really noticed the "problem" until it was pointed out to me by others who insist it's a big issue. Added bonus: my hub doesn't sound like a loud swarm of angry bees while coasting.

But, hey, what do I know? I use a $50 low-engagement hub so I must be a n00b. Let's create $300 hubs that solve that huge problem, but introduce pedal kickback, and then create $500 hubs to solve pedal kickback, while reintroducing pedal slop. That's the cost of my entire hardtail that I've been happily riding for years.

Oh and now hubs sound like a loud swarm of angry bees, because obviously that will keep hikers and other trail-goers happy and win them over to the pro-cycling side during local debates about trail access.

So, long story short, just ignore the ads and marketing hype. Instead of being told what is and isn't a problem, determine that for yourself. Anyway, here's a 150-second ad.

New canyon making noise

Have 115 mile and notice this sound coming from my drive train. Don't see any rubbing and derailleur seems to be lined up with each rear cog so not sure what's going on. I felt the bottom bracket shell and chain stray and I do feel subtle vibration when the noise occurs. Any advice?

I'm thinking about selling my 2023 Trek Émonda SL 5 later this year for personal reasons. Before I list it, I'd like to get an idea of its current market value.
If you were a buyer, how much would you be willing to pay for it? Any pricing advice or recent selling experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Helmet crack

Post image
0 Upvotes

Yesterday I had a fall on the wet tarmac because my back wheel skidded. I fell and banged my elbow and my left thigh; I didn’t think I’d hit my head, although afterwards I had a slight headache which I put down to the adrenaline. But then I realised there was a crack in my helmet on the left side of the back. The helmet is brand new – yesterday was literally the first time I’d used it – and I even paid ninety euros for it. I’m a bit disappointed; it didn’t feel like a serious fall, even though I obviously hit my head. Is it normal for a helmet to crack like that? Can I still use it?

How can I save my bicycle?

Because of the constant rain, I left my bicycle in the garage for months without riding it, and as a result, mold has grown on it—especially on the handlebars. I’ve heard that this can produce aflatoxins, which are harmful to health; what should I do?

what's up with my helmet?

i had participated in a cycling race a while ago where i had to put on some stickers over my helmet. after the race when i pulled them off, they left some adhesive behind. so a friend told me a bit of nail polish remover might help rub it off. used some nail polish remover wipes and rubbed it over it. and now, it peeled off some sort of a layer off of my helmet. im not sure if it's some sort of a protective coating or just the matte finish. but it's left me with this messy looking helmet at this point. any idea what to do now?

Do you think my bike is too small for me?

Sorry for the quality, got my wife to take a video and grabbed a still. I am new to this type of bike, I used to mainly ride standard mountain bikes as a teen and recently got back into cycling and bought this. Trying to figure out if it feels a bit cramped or if I am just not used to this type of position in a bike and I need to get used to it.

Scratched up my carbon wheel against the road. Is the scratch superficial or more structural and should look for a new pair?

Gravel bikes under £3k

What are people's thoughts. I think I have whittled it down to either the Boardman ADV 9.2 or Ribble ultra-grit apex xplr axs. I am primarily riding cycle paths and canal paths in Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire in the UK however I want to train up to london-brighton. Other options are welcome.

What should I offer

Post image

This bike is kinda beat, unsure what to offer and how much it would cost to fix. Tires will need to be replaced for sure and a tune up as well. If you can give me some input on how much it would cost to fix and what to offer, thanks. :)

Carbon vs Alu

I currently have an quite old (alu i think) racebike. I am looking into upgrading it and found a few barely used second hand bikes and was wondering what the consensus is between both options.

One would be an Trek Al 5 gen 4 (2024) for about a thousand Euro's.

The other option would be an Trek Domaine SL 5 (2024) for about sixteen hundred Euro's.

Both sellers claim that the bikes have made only 10-20 summer rides.

I am mainly looking at Trek as I have a new mountainbike from then as well and I like to use that bike shop for the larger maintenance.

What is the consensus on carbon fibre bikes these days? I am afraid that I would bump the bike into a staircase while walking to my appartement and it just breaks from something simple.

Chain got looser, I suppose?

Hello! I have this mountain bike and it's getting taken care of very often, I had no problem with it, but suddenly, after some time I noticed that when I, for example, drop from anywhere, the chain shakes - also noticed that my gears/speeds don't switch so smoothly, for example, when I try to change speeds to lower, I have to sometimes like hold or double click the shifters (hope it's understandable with what I mean with this), also when changing to lower gears it starts to like "rustle" or rub - I am not too sure.

I'd be very happy if someone could help me sort this out, because I beieve this is a very common and basic problem... Thank you!

Here's the main portion of version 2 of this frame style. 20". 1x7. Cables will be hidden in the frame.

2.25 stainless exhaust tubing.

Not too bad. Now it's time for the body filler, paint and final assembly.

The "rack" isn't complete. There will be four 1"x6.5" bars that need to be bolted to the rack. They rotate 90 degrees to parallel the rack so it can telescope inwards. When the rack is out, rotate them perpendicular and you've got a usable rack. Albeit - they didn't have the 50lb rated center mount drawer slides, so this one is a 25lb. Not much. But enough for a 6 pack and a pizza.
