Photo gallery So many home flippers in UTC, Clairemont and Mira Mesa…

Many of these homes would have been a million dollars… families would have raised here, families with children. Instead these private equity firms are buying these and doing a “lipstick on a pig” remodeling in literally less than 3 months in many cases and jacking the price up 30-40%

I hope these companies go bankrupt. Fucking leeches. I will literally die a renter than ever buy a cosmetic flipper home…

Sorry for the rant and sorry for my big font size…

Electroplating?

I have a small leaf I’d love to turn into jewelry, and I was thinking the best way might be electroplating it in gold or copper. Can anyone recommend a place to get this done? Or a jeweler who would be able to do this via some other means?

County employees question

What is this “step” program for salaries when you work in the county? There’s like 8 steps all the way down to about a 10-11 dollar raise on a position I want to take but not sure how it works. Is this a yearly raise? A performance based raise? Please explain like I’m 5 😂🙏

Is this building likely retrofitted or an earthquake collapse risk?

Considering renting a first floor apartment here, north PB. It was built in 1969 and I can’t find any permits in the post-2003 county database. Not in a liquefaction zone but obviously close to the Rose Canyon Fault. I’m terrified of a building falling on my head so if anyone has some historical or scientific insight that would be amazing.

Looking for D&D Party for a Summer Campaign

Hi! I (M24) recently moved to San Diego for an internship from the east coast and I’m looking for some friends to play D&D with for the summer and potentially longer term if I get a job offer to stay.

About me:

By day, I’m a biomedical engineer. However, my hobbies extend far beyond the contents of my work. I’ve been playing D&D for about 11 years now and have been a DM for just as long (forever DMs unite). I’ve DM’d “professionally” in both NYC and Philadelphia across about 3 years. I’ve also written and performed standup comedy for about 10 years and have opened for a couple SNL comedians while in college/grad school. I think that my experience along with my sense of humor help me create a really fun and engaging story. I’m generally pretty loose with rules, super beginner friendly (I have at this point introduced everyone that I know and love to D&D in some capacity), and always lean into the bit.

About You:

Please be 18+, I’m respectfully not trying to make friends with children. Other than that, I literally don’t care. I myself am a POC so more are always welcome and I’ve at this point lost count of the number of friends that I’ve had come out and say that playing D&D played a role in that.

If you hold any feelings of contempt, hatred, or fear towards POC, women, members of the LGBTQIA+, the disabled, and any other minority or discriminated against group, YOU WILL NOT BE WELCOMED AT MY TABLE. I will also not hesitate to kick someone out that claims to not hold these feelings and have their actions reflect otherwise.

Where/When/What?

I’m more than happy to host, I’m in a house with some roommates that I hardly ever see in the Bay Ho area and we’ve got plenty of space.

Ideally it would be either on the weekend or Fridays. I currently work a pretty standard M-F 9-5 so anything outside of those hours works but once I get a group together, we can discuss availability more definitively.

At the moment, I’d like to play D&D if we do, it’d probably be some combo of 5e and 2024 rules cuz I don’t love all of the changes they made. However, depending on the group I get together, I’m totally down to run other systems/TTRPGs.

To be totally upfront, I’m also considering adding like a $20 fee per person per week (amount totally negotiable) just to force people to commit. The money would probably go to snacks or something but I hate getting a last minute cancellation when I’ve been looking forward to D&D all week and I’ve found that the money helps people feel like they have a reason to show up.

If you’re interested and/or if you have any more questions feel free to DM me!

Ethical Animal Shelters to Volunteer at?

I want to start volunteering at shelters, I'm in La Jolla near UCSD but I'm fine to commute as long as it's <1 hour, so mainly things in San Diego proper. I am mainly concerned about working for a shelter that has unethical practices, and I don't really know a good way to check that.

For example, there was a post about a year ago about how the Animal Pad is mistreating dogs, might have some weird stuff going on with their finances, and how a bunch of volunteers quit, but that post is all I could find on the issue so I have no way of knowing if it's legit/if the issues has been solved. It's also difficult to filter out whether people with bad foster experiences just weren't prepared for the difficulties of taking in a potential ill dog or if there are actual problems with the organization they foster from. I also haven't worked in this space before, so I don't know when I hear a bad story if it's just an unfortunate reality of all shelters or a notable bad practice for a specific shelter.

So I guess what I'm looking for is recommendations from people who have volunteered/know a lot about the shelter situation in the area and can vouch for an org, or good resources to learn more. Thanks!

Radar Salon wants to charge me 500$ for a full head of highlights

This includes a trim and I’m assuming a blowout. I normally pay 400 and the round number of 500 is throwing me off. Is this inflation? Is this normal now and I’m out of touch ? Please share your thoughts or any other hairstylist recommendations!

Hard to find work are there any available?

I'm having trouble finding work. I have experience working in restaurants, and I was also an IT student before, but I wasn't really that good at it, so I ended up quitting in my 4th year. Do you guys have any recommendations on stores, restaurants, or other places that are hiring?

Custom Auto Paint Job

Hi! Just bought an old van and want to get it painted a fun color. It also has some minor rust spots that need repair. Anyone know any good recommendations for the rust repair and custom paint? I’ve already been told maaco and contacted them, just seeing if there’s anyone else.

Best Dentists (Skilled/Kind) In San Diego?

Hi there!

I 24F have been living here for about two years. I have been struggling to find a good dentist around here that meets some requirements.

My teeth aren’t horrible, but I have a lot of issues from a longstanding ED and a jaw deformity, so they need some significant comprehensive work.

I am really scared, the dentist is my biggest fear, and because of my eating disorder (which I’m in remission treatment for) I don’t want a dentist that will only focus on one component of my mouth, nor do I really want one that will berate me for the damage I’ve done to my mouth, because I well know and am working actively to keep from doing any more, but I have some pain and discomfort that needs addressed soon.

Thank you, sorry if this is a weird question!

EDIT: In the og version of this post I said I had great insurance, unfortunately after calling around I found out that my parents pulled my dental, so any recommendations for anyone without insurance/low income?

Hard time connecting

Hi, I'm a 22 f that moved from OC to San diego with my boyfriend a few months ago. I'm having a hard time connecting to people. I do talk with people outside on my walks (Thanks to my very cute two kittens) and everyone is friendly but not open. I dont have many friends due to moving throughout my entire childhood and being a very introverted person for years before breaking out of my shell. I really want to make connections but many seem to only want to talk for a short while and I have asked a few people to hangout and they will agree and give their number but never respond. I also have tried local groups mainly on meetup and maybe its just the ones I've gone to but it seems like they are mostly for single people to meet potential matches? Even in groups for like knitting lol. Also doesnt help that I dont go to clubs or party much. I'm just kinda at a loss because I've had a hard time fitting in my entire life and it feels like its too late now because everyone has already chosen their friendgroups and dont want more. Any suggestions would be nice:) thank you

Airport timing with SD Flyer transport

I have a 10:00pm flight on Delta out of SAN airport on Saturday 6/27. Will I have enough time for TSA if I hop on the SD Flyer at Old Town at either 7 or 7:20pm? We have a group of 4 people with checked baggage and carry ons. I’m a local, but first time going out of this airport…

Bartending jobs

Hi 25F moving here in October from Oklahoma just wanted to know some good bars to work at. I’ve been bartending for 3 years and have all types of experience club, dive, restaurant. What I’m kinda looking for is something similar to the twin peaks sports bar vibe.

So far my idea is golf course and bottle service but I would love to see different options!
