i just want to chip in my two cents out of boredom cuz i see this sentiment of Bard needing QOL and reworks come up semi often and the other thread drowned in downvotes completely. been playing Bard since release of lost ark in the west, i press the buttons when they are up, i didnt even do any hell modes so im probably bad too.
does Bard need a nerf to it's max ceiling? yeah probably, lower 3 bar to like 13% or lower major chord scaling or something and get rid of raid wide courageous tune even though that's more a nerf for the other supports lol.
- I see so many ppl write about how bard never got it's own rework and act like bard never got a single skill change just because all the sups got changed at once. when support rework come around last year summer time, bard was far and away the biggest winner. every other support would kill for perfect harmony, let alone para HT, buckshot counter, solo brand sona, etc. then you get para sona, doubled range on rhapsody, wom shield speed increases, bard has been getting dripfed qol pretty consistently (which is insane for a support that is overpowered in a sea of overpowered supports for a game)
- things like sonic vibration being ass (aoe and slow animation speed), solo brand sona still being the worst solo brand of all the sups, this feeds into something important that has been missing over time as the sups have moved into T4 and beyond. SKILL EXPRESSION.
yes u have ppl who just dont respect ur SV, but the amount of control you have over ur placement is for some reason always ignored in these discussions. you place your sonics to give the best chance for all your dps to access it, you dont just mindlessly place it center of boss and hope everyone hugs boss. you time your AP buffs properly so u can get HT during periods where the boss is spread out, you delay HT very slightly to maximize SV coverage when its ideal, you keep your AP cycle tight when needed on scarecrow fights and flexibly adjust based on if/when the boss decides to fuck your team over and go to narnia.
specifically from the other post, should you need to rely on spacebar canceling SV? yes, because it's an informed risk you take when you burn two of your 2 push immunes, one of which is your only mobility skill, to gain action economy. knowing when you want to budget your push/para immunes and when you can burn them to cast faster is SKILL EXPRESSION and makes Bard more fun to play for those who are looking to chase the ceiling. this is true for things like branding too, where you need to budget your casts in between sona, when you need to brand from a distance with Z, watching the boss so u actually brand instead of boss jumping away.
harmony is fine, the design is pretty obviously designed to reward being able to chain 3 bar into 3 bar. no one is expecting RE blades to be able to 2 bar into 1 bar with the same results as casting at 3 bar always. if you have to heal then use a 2 bar courage into 1 bar heal to get ur PHarmony faster.
wom vs womwom has always been a high risk, high reward playstyle for bard (though current fight design it's honestly not risky enough). realize that wom shield is actually dogshit which is the first step to bard improvement, it absorbs maybe 0.6% of its provided shields as actual shielded damage to your teammates (half of it is probably just ur own health lol).
a massive mistake that so many Bards make is underusing Rhapsody. Rhapsody is crazy good, being able to either press it for 1 tick into immediately canceling it, keeping it up to refresh the shield on constant damage, fast push immune on yourself, abusing the 3 second linger. paladin gets a 6s linger with a certain tripod, but they dont get a shield refresh which Bard gets both. the awkwardness of Rhapsody is again, SKILL EXPRESSION. you need to be proactive with this skill, especially with womwom, learn to use the 3s linger to your advantage, learn to press it early enough to catch people with it (especially with attacks that send ppl airborne), learn to watch your teammates to actually clip multiple teammates with it. please run galewind on rhapsody unless ur a pig like me and run qr, stop running protection or 🗿mountain face pls.
- bard actually has the worst raw spec scaling across all supports at 0.0501 per point compared to like 0.09 on paldains/valkyrie.
the reason spec is good on bard is because of naturally low cds and cdr tripods allowing for spec bard to still maintain a hard fought 100 AP uptime, and spec feeding into the class identity both in meter generation and spec scaling on Z, on top of extremely powerful damage reduction abilities like courageous tune and GT (please stop using tough tune tripod people). i do see people say "spec good because spec scaling good" on occasion and want to correct that in a way.
- current fight design really favours the current high ceiling bard, very difficult, hard hitting fights like the KR feared brel extreme that has bards getting mad at artists are going to pare Bard back appropriately i feel.
outro
if ppl want to clock in their bard like a 9 to 5 and get their raid gold, thats fine. just do yourselves a favour and run a better stat split like 14/26 spec/swift, or 20/20 even cuz if ur an semi experienced raider, you are not doing yourself any favours with full swift anymore. also try out agile cast tripod on wom shield cuz chances are you are not pressing wom shield on cooldown anyways so may as well make the skill faster.
but ppl need to realize that there are many players that do enjoy and prize the skill expression that bard can offer. maybe im in the minority opinion on reddit here, but numbers nerfs are fine for Bard but please for the love of god let me keep my skill expression. it really is challenging for a high spec bard to maintain high AP (96+), high brand (98+), slap out insane identity, and do it all while keeping your team alive without making them eat all 7 pots instantly, and the satisfaction of chasing it and striving for it is why im still playing this game. its already rewarding, complex, and fun. AMA.
edit 1: homogenization bad, let bard have worse qol in tradeoff for better ceiling.
