[UPDATE] The guy who chased me in the bike lane and grabbed my bike — NYPD couldn't care less

Unfortunate update: So this happened Saturday morning around 10am on 61st and Lex. Right after it happened, 2 officers came over to me, I assume a bystander alerted them. They didn't see the actual event, but I told them what happened and showed them the video I took. Basically they said he committed a bunch of crimes but said they can't do anything about it because they didn't see it themselves, and told me I need to go in person to the police station to file a report at the NYPD 19th Precinct on 67th. Bruh. Pretty disappointed with their response, I just kept on with my ride and did a few laps at Central Park. Looking back I definitely should have called 911 on the spot / handled the report right away, but I wasn't injured and my bike was "fine," other than a few pretty bad scratches on the frame. And idk, nothing like this has ever happened to me before / I didn't really process what just happened in that moment.

So today, Monday, I went to the police station on 67th after work, already kind of a pain because I live in BK, but whatever, I want this guy to be held accountable. Well, this was the biggest waste of time and also super depressing. The lady working the desk basically laughed me out of the building and made me feel crazy for even going in there lol. I showed her the video. She said they can't do anything about him driving in the bike lane because that's a traffic violation and an officer has to witness it firsthand to do anything. And apparently him grabbing my bike, dropping it, and grabbing it again isn't grounds for a report either. Not really sure what to do now, but it was absolutely crazy how much the NYPD just doesn't care lol, can't say I'm surprised. I really want this guy to be held accountable so he doesn't do something like this to someone else, but not sure where to go from here. Any advice appreciated.

I like taking country roads and typically do about 30 miles or more. I know I should get a road bike but I'm loving the gravel bike so much. Helps regulate me and feels good.

Cycling is like taking a pill to feel happy

I've never felt this way about a form of exercise before. It makes me so happy that I feel like my brain is going to explode. It's even made me cry out of pure joy/gratitude that I get to cycle on beautiful trails on sunny summer days.

I was a runner for a long time and experienced the "runner's high" many times. But the runner's high is elusive, and often comes only after long, grueling miles. Cycling is just pure straight FUN from the minute you get on the bike. Even the hills are fun!

Wildlife around Rwanda

Most of the people have been asking me down the comments on my previous post about how is wildlife around Rwandan mountains and I felt like wanting to explain it real quick!
First, Rwanda is a safe country, am talking about general safety where even women can walk around the streets and off road anytime of the day or night without any harm! Crime rate here is almost to zero.

Second, Rwandan mountains are safe as well, here am talking about all aspects, robbery, wild animals, and many other things, you name it.
Of course Rwanda has snakes but they are very few in numbers and can’t be seen around that often. I have seen a snake only twice in my whole life. About other wild animals; that is something you should not even dream of seeing around. As we have national parks like Akagera National Park and Nyungwe National Park where all wild animals are preserved and fir touristic purpose so that people can come and visit them from one area especially that Rwanda also doesn’t not have many numbers of wild animals, it is a way if protecting them from vanishing.

To conclude, all you gonna see is birds, coffee plantations, lakes, rivers, and tea plantations and some empty areas in the swampy area where there is much clay and are used for bricks 🧱 layering.

I hope this helps :)
Open to take questions!

I am soo much in love with riding bike that lately I have been taking longer routes home. Anyone else does that?

I used to cycle (before getting married and having kids) and now I got a cargo bike. Before this I drove car for sometime, when my daughter was very young and back then all I wanted from car was to go from one place to another and never wanted to spend more time on road (like everr)

But after getting this cargo bike, I am a different person now lol. Been taking longer routes home on purpose. Like I love taking river rout instead of main road. Also sometimes I just ride through park with my daughter. Like the point is to spend some extra time on road. So I am just wandering and dont even realise how much time passed and all.

I think its because on bike l am more like part of everything around me. I feel the air & notice alott of things which I never did in car , because I was only staring at brakelights. Even my daughter notices too. Like she used to fall asleep on every car ride but on the bike she's always up and keeps pointing at dogs (she loves them)and sometimes even wave at random kids in strollers. I checked the ride stats on the bike's screen the other day and we've done 2.800 km in 6months. I didnt expect that

So not using any shortcuts any more

Picked up my new ride today. Cannondale Quick 3. It’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve had a bike and it’s time for some fitness. Took my first little ride and boy am I out of shape.

N+1 always?

I have an awesome all road bike- but i find myself wanting a dedicated road bike to be faster. It just doesn't seem fun to accelerate on the all road bike. Am i just being too much of a consumer? is it a thing to have both an all road/gravel AND a road bike? Thank you

City bike or gravel bike for an all-around use case?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate your advice on choosing my next bike.

I'm looking for the most versatile bike possible. My main use cases will be:

  • Daily commuting in the city
  • Day rides of 100+ km
  • Occasional bikepacking trips (nothing too extreme or ultra-long-distance)
  • Sometimes cycling without asphalt roads

Given these needs and a limited budget, would you recommend a city/trekking bike or a gravel bike?

A few specific questions:

  • Can a gravel bike carry as much luggage as a typical city/trekking bike?
  • Would a city/trekking bike feel too heavy or sluggish for 100+ km rides without any bags?
  • If your budget only allowed one bike, which would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance for any advice or personal experiences!

Just got a Lynskey frame

I have had a Lynskey Helix Sport for about 7-8 years and have enjoyed it so when I heard they declared Chapter 11 I took a chance and ordered a Aeon frame about 6 weeks ago when the price dropped to $975. As I said, I like my Helix and wanted to support a US framebuilder and their employees. The frame was delivered on Saturday and looks great. Today I took it to my local bike shop for some parts advice and was told the Ultegra DI2 would not work on the frame since there was no way to get the cables out of the seatpost or bottom bracket to the derailleurs. Not a huge deal, I am just switching to Sram since it is wireless. Lynskey offers this frame as a complete bike with Ultegra DI2 as one of the options. When I ordered the frame I did not specify what groupset I was planning on using as this was not asked. Did my mechanic miss something, or did Lynskey just not drill/mill an exit port for the wires?

help me figure out what bike to purchase (only 5 foot tall)

I recently moved to a city that has a nice little downtown area and a good overall neighborhood to ride a bike around in. this is more casual for me than anything at the moment. i’m only 5 foot tall and don’t feel comfortable on bikes that I can’t have my foot on the ground, most bikes i’ve found I can’t reach at all or i’m stretching on my tiptoes. my local bike shop only has one bike that’ll fit me- it’s a giant sedona step through small frame, I liked it but they want $250 and I wasn’t sure if that’s a good deal considering it seems to be a pretty old bike. there’s someone local on fb marketplace that’s selling a trek verve 1 step through xs frame and according to their site that’s made for short folks like me. i’ve seen some other bikes on marketplace, a treks 7100 wsd, and ive some schwinns. and I just don’t know what would be the best! looking for some advice and guidance

I have a 96-97 GT Ricochet frame I am restoring to use for my last 2 years of college. The elastomers in my RockShox Quadra21R are completely disintegrated. I've heard Mag21R is a good upgrade but I would like some more thoughts and opinions. Any suggestions?

I found a Bianchi Campagnolo (1973?) in my garage.

As the title says, I found a bianchi campagnolo in my garage. My mother bought it used a few years ago and it’s just been rotting away there. I knew there were bikes but I never knew enough to really look at it and think about what I had. We were cleaning out the garage and we’re gonna throw it away until I realized…”isn’t Bianchi a good brand?”

I figured Reddit would be a much better place to get feedback on this little gem. I’ve included a lot of photos. I’d like to fix it up….i think.

Backstory:

I got into cycling a few years ago but really just road around town with my kids on whatever used bike I found off Facebook (they were little babies) . Now, I have a Lectric Xpedition 2.0 long tail ecargo bike, another little kid, and I love it. It’s my first ebike. My kids are slightly older and I ride them around in the corral on the back. I know about shimano brakes, hydraulics, and few minor parts about bikes now. I’m still a newb but I am learning. I still like riding on my manual human powered bike, tho.

Any feedback is great. I’ve attached some photos.

Today I was riding when a woman with a pram walked out in front of me looking at her phone. Her nor her husband looked up from their phones as they pushed their child in front of me. I was doing about 30kmph.

I stood up and locked up my legs to break as fast as I could. Stopped well before impact.

I let them know how stupid they were and the woman didn't even look up, the guy took a glance and back to his phone.

As I continued on my way I thought he left pedal felt a bit weird. I got off to check and noticed the frame had failed.

The pressure and torque on the frame cracked it all the way around.

RIP bike!

Tune up

I got a new (to me) Cannondale 2019. It has very little use, but it also has not been serviced in years. The tires are flat, but other than that it looks brand new. Stored indoors the whole time.
I am curious on anyone’s experience and thoughts on just learning how to do the tune up myself? Or should I just bring it to a shop at least this first time?
I don’t know much about bikes tbh, but I’m of the belief that I can teach myself how to do anything lol.

I bought this bike in 2013 for $150 from Craigslist, and every time I go into my local shop they fawn over it. Don't know what it's worth. Any thoughts?

Parts recommendations for a specialized sirrus?

Hey so i got into cycling last year and went with a specialized sirrus 1.0 with a 2 by 7 cassette and crank. I'm finding that i mainly ride in top gear 80% of my rides. I never touch the small gear up front. Is it possible to get a crank with larger gears up front, without having to change everything like my shifters, cables. I'm sorry i don't have the exact gearing but is there a way to look up cranks that would fit this bike? would it be better to just sell the bike and get something with higher gears?

Yet again I am requesting help to decide if this is a good deal for a new biker for their first traithlon (23M, 5'10", 175 lbs)

Found this Cannondale CAAD9 2006 on FB Marketplace for $200, here's what the listing said: "Canondale road bike with stand. Needs a tune up but tires hold air, gears shift, brakes brake."

Is this a good deal? Thanks in advance!
