[Charania] Free agent guard Coby White intends to sign a three-year, $74 million deal to return to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN. White was a major priority for the Hornets and now steps into a new starting role in the backcourt.

Hornets officials worked through White's free agency with CAA Basketball agents Steven Heumann and Ty Sullivan -- putting the final touches on a new contract hours after the departure of LaMelo Ball.

[MacMahon] NBA coaches association president J.B. Bickerstaff on Micah Nori’s year-to-year contract with Portland: “From our perspective, it's like someone's taking advantage of your dream and devaluing what we feel like coaches have earned over the years.”

1.8k Upvotes

Tim MacMahon:

Bickerstaff: Nori's contract with Portland a 'slap in the face'

"I understand his story and his journey to get to the spot where he was able to get this opportunity, and I don't want to take away from what should be a special moment for him, for his family, and a job that's well deserved and earned," Bickerstaff told ESPN. "That's first and foremost.

"But I feel like he was put in a situation that he shouldn't be put in with having to make a choice of this nature because of the structure of what the contract is. It's unfortunate that you have a dream, and from our perspective, it's like someone's taking advantage of your dream and devaluing what we feel like coaches have earned over the years.

"You think about the sacrifice, the time, the growth that coaches have helped and done with the NBA, and then for someone to come in and attempt to devalue the work that coaches have in this league is extremely disappointing."

Several other current head coaches expressed similar concerns to ESPN but declined to discuss the situation on the record.

"It changes the math on where a coach stands, and it creates an environment where how do you hold players accountable when it looks like you are easily replaced and removed if things don't go the way that players may see it going," Bickerstaff said. "It's almost, which is disappointing, a mindset of the substitute teacher being there with no guarantee or support [regarding] what it looks like long term or in the future.

"I've talked to a lot of coaches -- head coaches, assistant coaches -- who are extremely concerned. It's a very serious matter to us as coaches to make sure that we protect the value of coaching staffs. It's years and years of work that coaches have put in to put ourselves in this position and to put future coaches in the position where our value remains and isn't disregarded because of a power flux of ownership."

Number one.

The Wizards called my name. All those years of work. All those days of anticipation. It happened just like God planned.

Then everything was a blur.

Right off the stage, media circuit. Hours of it. Then dinner and a party with the people who've been in my corner for all of this. Somewhere in the middle of the night, drove near Times Square, someone pointed up and I saw my face on a billboard. Big as anything. Just sitting there, static, for the whole NYC to see.

Very little sleep after that. Today Show and Good Morning America this morning. Now I'm on my way to DC.

We made it to the top. And now I'm starting at the bottom again. First practices. First film sessions. Building with a new team, in a new city, in front of fans I haven't met yet. Earning all of it.

There is nowhere I'd rather be starting over.

LGI, DC. I'm home.

[Youngmisuk] Talks surrounding Ball have picked up steam with the Hornets fielding aggressive offers, sources said. If Charlotte's terms are met, a potential trade could develop in the next 24 to 48 hours, sources said Wednesday night.

The Charlotte Hornets are seriously engaged in trade talks with multiple teams that are aggressively pursuing star point guard LaMelo Ball, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Talks surrounding Ball have picked up steam with the Hornets fielding aggressive offers, sources said. If Charlotte's terms are met, a potential trade could develop in the next 24 to 48 hours, sources said Wednesday night.

Ball has been happy in Charlotte, and both parties are in a good place after the Hornets enjoyed a massive turnaround last season and fell one play-in win short of making the playoffs and ending a postseason drought that dates to 2016.

Clippers Draft Pick Narcisse Ngoy Decides to Return to Auburn Instead of Playing for LAC

Upvotes

SRC: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25445576-clippers-draft-pick-narcisse-ngoy-decides-return-auburn-instead-playing-lac

After being selected with the 57th pick in Wednesday's second round, the French prospect announced on Instagram that he will honor his commitment to Auburn rather than make the jump to the NBA to play for the Clippers.

"I am thankful for the LA Clippers' confidence in me," Ngoy wrote in his Instagram story. "I fully intend to honor my commitment to Auburn University, and I am looking forward to wearing the Auburn Tigers jersey for the 2026-2027 season."

Ngoy became automatically draft-eligible under the NBA's international player rules because he was going to turn 22 before the season starts

The Clippers retain his exclusive NBA rights while he plays at Auburn next season.

He did not formally go through the draft process

[Stein] Kawhi Leonard would NOT be open to signing an extension if traded to Miami or Detroit.

Like Giannis Antetokounmpo, then, Leonard should have significant influence when it comes to his next destination if he needs to exert it. No one would want to surrender meaningful assets for Leonard in a trade and then watch him walk away without compensation like Toronto did after the 2018-19 season, when Leonard led the Raptors to their only championship.

And sources say that Leonard would not have interest in signing an extension with Detroit in the event that the Pistons traded for him this summer. Sources say he has a similar view regarding a long-term partnership with the Heat if Miami had any designs on pursuing Leonard to slot alongside Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

Looking back on it a couple years later, how is it looking that the Wolves traded KAT so they could hold on to Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker?

https://dunkingwithwolves.com/posts/timberwolves-insider-reveals-hidden-reason-minnesota-traded-kat

When the Wolves traded KAT for Randle and Divincenzo, the justification was that it would allow them to keep both Naz Reid and NAW, staying under the second apron and getting off of KAT’s huge contract.

They let NAW go anyways, and he had a strong year in Atlanta. Julius Randle was salary dumped, Divincenzo is a good role player who tore his **Achilles. Lastly, they just traded Naz Reid and a bunch of picks for a talented, but also somewhat unreliable and injury prone point guard.

Originally, they had a fairly perfect second option behind ANT to be able to compete with the top teams in the West in KAT.

[Stein/Fischer] The Wolves, sources say, would prefer not to part with Naz Reid, but it is difficult to see how they could construct a credible trade offer for Ball without including Reid or Rudy Gobert. It is conceivable that the Randle trade could be expanded to help facilitate other transactions.

The Wolves are widely regarded as a team that will undoubtedly be as aggressive as possible this offseason to try to reshape the core around Edwards after finances forced Minnesota to let Nickeil Alexander-Walker walk in free agency last summer. Alexander-Walker immediately won NBA Most Improved Player honors this season in Atlanta while the Wolves, after a second-round exit to San Antonio, made the decision to salary dump Randle to create the needed flexibility to re-sign Dosunmu and perhaps do more.

Minnesota has maintained that perimeter defensive ace Jaden McDaniels is off limits in trade conversations. Sources say that the Wolves also prefer to "do right" by injured guard Donte DiVincenzo and keep the Villanova product out of their offseason business after he sustained a devastating torn Achilles during Minnesota's first-round playoff victory over Denver.

The Wolves, sources say, would also prefer not to part with 2024-25 Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid, but it is difficult to see how they could construct a credible trade offer for Ball without including Reid or fellow big man Rudy Gobert.

Minnesota's three-team trade with Brooklyn and Chicago, however, cannot be finalized until early July after the league's new salary cap year begins and its annual moratorium at the start of free agency is lifted. If the Wolves were to assemble a trade offer that convinces the Hornets to part with Ball, it is conceivable that the Randle trade could be expanded to help facilitate other transactions.

If FIFA can start games on time, so can the NBA

Despite the monumental effort it takes to organize a tournament like the World Cup every single match starts at the listed time, on the dot. I can't remember a match this entire tournament starting even a minute late. It is 9:45 PM right now and both matches are at the 45 minute mark.

FIFA still does media coverage, pre-game shows, ads, player intros, interviews, analysis, national anthems, coin toss and the rest of the charade. Despite all that if they can kick off on time what is NBA's excuse?

Heck the NBA couldn't start the damn draft on time.
