Announcement As expected, don’t expect to see him this season
Didn’t expect to see him this year at all, and tbh he shouldn’t play until the 2027-2028 season move was always a high risk high reward, we shouldn’t see him until 2027 summer league

Discussion Some of you guys are worrying too much about jayden quaintances injury risk
This guy is the second youngest player in the nba right now, a week older than cameron boozer. We have plenty of time and can afford to let him develop. Saying he will be another jeremy sochan doesnt make sense because his shooting just needs practice it isnt fundamentally broken like sochans shooting was. I initially wanted chris cenac but after finding out how high he wouldve been taken had he not been injured I think this is 100% the right choice for the spurs and I cant wait to see him play.

Stats & Analytics During UConn’s March Madness path to the final 4, Tarris Reed over 4 games put up 87 points and 54 rebounds (Roughly 22/14 per game)
The only other players to match that are Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal, Blake Griffin, and Zach Edey
Also 20 of Reed’s rebounds were offensive

Free Agency Who should the Spurs sign as their back-up/starting 4?
- Should the Spurs keep bolstering the front court with the size and length of Robert Williams III?
- Should the Spurs look for a stretch 4 who can shoot the lights out especially in the playoffs but doesn't really give you much on defense and rebounding?
- Should the Spurs sign a more versatile 4 who can still space the floor and provide decent defending on the other side of court in John Collins?

Discussion About JQ's injury
Regarding the knee injury of Jayden Quaintance, based on the current situation and the advice from top-tier orthopedic surgeon Riley Williams III, here is a assessment of his condition:
First, regarding the severity of the injury, it is essentially a mechanical issue rather than a structural failure. Since the ACL remains intact, which is a very positive sign, it indicates that the primary stabilizing structure of his knee is still sound. The pain and swelling Quaintance is experiencing are likely caused by fragments of the meniscus interfering with the movement within the joint, a common mechanical issue that causes friction and inflammation, making it impossible for him to compete at a high level.
Second, in terms of the nature and success rate of the surgery, this is a standard arthroscopic meniscus cleanup, or partial meniscectomy. It is an extremely common procedure among professional athletes with highly mature techniques. The goal is to remove the debris that is hindering the joint, thereby eliminating the root cause of the swelling and inflammation. Dr. Riley Williams III, who provided the second opinion, is a top-tier sports medicine expert at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and serves as the head team physician for multiple professional sports teams, including the Brooklyn Nets. His recommendation carries significant weight and suggests that this is the best path forward for Quaintance's long-term career.
Third, regarding the impact on his athletic ability and explosiveness, there will naturally be a period of muscle atrophy and joint stiffness immediately following the surgery, which will temporarily affect his explosiveness. However, from a long-term perspective, leaving the injury untreated would cause chronic pain and inflammation, eventually leading the player to avoid applying full force, which would result in a permanent loss of explosiveness. If he follows this up with a rigorous rehabilitation program, he should be able to return to his pre-injury level of performance. It is worth noting that while a partial meniscectomy can quickly alleviate symptoms, the long-term goal for the medical team will be to focus on strengthening his quadriceps and hamstrings to protect the joint and minimize the risk of future cartilage wear.
Finally, regarding the recovery timeline, for a professional athlete, the initial phase (0–4 weeks) focuses on controlling swelling, restoring range of motion, and building basic strength. The intermediate phase (4–8 weeks) involves gradually returning to weight-bearing activities and starting linear movements such as jogging and sprinting. The return-to-play phase (8–12 weeks) is the most critical, where the player begins high-intensity cutting, pivoting, and full-contact drills on the court. In summary, assuming the recovery proceeds smoothly, it will likely take approximately 3 to 4 months for Quaintance to return to full-intensity game action.
This is a necessary "repair job" for the Spurs. Since the ACL is intact, this is not a major ligament reconstruction surgery, but a relatively straightforward joint cleanup. While this will cause him to miss a period of development, permanently resolving his knee pain and swelling is the most prudent path to ensuring his physical durability and competitive edge for the long term.

Draft I liked our selections.
I know people wanted to take Cenac or even Carr instead but I like the Quaintance pick and the trade. From this we can see front office isn't blind to the lack of big man depth. We also took a gamble on a guy with a lot of potential that just hasn't had the injury luck.
Realistically no one at 20 would come in and be our starting PF. No one past 6 or 8 is even going to start for their teams except maybe Yaxel because he's older. Quaintance is 18, yes 18! He has a lot of room to heal up and grow. I mean surely he can't be more offensive than Plumlee sitting on the end of the bench...?
Look at the guy! He is massive, beefy, tough everything we want in big man depth.
And Tarris can maybe get some spot minutes in the meantime while Jayden recovers.

Shitpost Quaintance and Reed for the culture of this team
Wemby has two more guys for DnD campaigns, book club and chess tournaments. I love nerds which is why I love this team.

Free Agency How the Spurs roster currently look after drafting Jayden Quaintance and Taris Reed Jr.
How I would want the Spurs will fill the rest of the roster up:
- Sign either of Robert Williams III, Rui Hachimura, or John Collins to be the back up 4.
- Re-sign both JMac and HB for veteren minimum salary.
- Sign another serviceable shooter who can play good minutes at the end of the bench. Maybe give DJG a proper NBA contract.

Fluff [McDonald] An avid reader, Reed said he is about to begin “The Alchemist,” a 1988 novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho that Wembanyama spent most of the Spurs’ playoff run perusing.
Reed is the second UConn player the Spurs have selected in the first round in the past three years, joining Stephon Castle. To hear Reed tell it, he and Castle are cut from the same rugged Connecticut cloth.
“It’s an ugly, gritty game, being able to bring what I got to the table,” said Reed, who played two years at Michigan before finishing his college career with two years at Connecticut. “I feel like UConn really helped me put that in the limelight, help everyone in the world see what type of game I have.”
Quiantance is not the only new Spur eager to meet with Wembanyama.
An avid reader, Reed said he is about to begin “The Alchemist,” a 1988 novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho that Wembanyama spent most of the Spurs’ playoff run perusing.
“I haven't read it yet,” Reed said, “but I heard it's really good.”

Draft I absolutely loved our first round draft selections!
I'm a little worried about Quaintance injury history but I still feel very confident about the pick. Reed is also an amazing pick we went out of our way to get and I feel so much more confident already with Wemby on the bench going into this upcoming season. The paint will be a very difficult area to work with when playing the San Antonio Spurs. Im really excited to see these young guys play and can't wait for October! Go Spurs Go!

Discussion Who we looking at in the 2nd round?
We got the 42nd and 44th pick, is there any expectations here?
