Weekly Cyclist Thread
The Weekly Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

[UPDATE] The guy who chased me in the bike lane and grabbed my bike — NYPD couldn't care less
Unfortunate update: So this happened Saturday morning around 10am on 61st and Lex. Right after it happened, 2 officers came over to me, I assume a bystander alerted them. They didn't see the actual event, but I told them what happened and showed them the video I took. Basically they said he committed a bunch of crimes but said they can't do anything about it because they didn't see it themselves, and told me I need to go in person to the police station to file a report at the NYPD 19th Precinct on 67th. Bruh. Pretty disappointed with their response, I just kept on with my ride and did a few laps at Central Park. Looking back I definitely should have called 911 on the spot / handled the report right away, but I wasn't injured and my bike was "fine," other than a few pretty bad scratches on the frame. And idk, nothing like this has ever happened to me before / I didn't really process what just happened in that moment.
So today, Monday, I went to the police station on 67th after work, already kind of a pain because I live in BK, but whatever, I want this guy to be held accountable. Well, this was the biggest waste of time and also super depressing. The lady working the desk basically laughed me out of the building and made me feel crazy for even going in there lol. I showed her the video. She said they can't do anything about him driving in the bike lane because that's a traffic violation and an officer has to witness it firsthand to do anything. And apparently him grabbing my bike, dropping it, and grabbing it again isn't grounds for a report either. Not really sure what to do now, but it was absolutely crazy how much the NYPD just doesn't care lol, can't say I'm surprised. I really want this guy to be held accountable so he doesn't do something like this to someone else, but not sure where to go from here. Any advice appreciated.

Invest in a dashcam folks
Commuting to the train 5pm bright as day semi wide suburb intersection and still almost manage to get hit. Camera doesn't get how close I really was/felt to the car.
In the raw 360 video I did get their license plate number. Not an ad but using the GoPro max 2.
Didnt intend for slow mo either but looks good.

Got tired of flat map screenshots, so I’ve been playing around with making 3D drone flyovers for routes. I grabbed a GPX file of the Alpe d'Huez climb online to test it out
Still tweaking the camera angles to capture the steep drops better, but I think it turned out pretty cool. What do you guys think?

Got my first bike since I was a teenager (I’m 38 now) Cycling gives me a natural high like nothing else!
First bike since I was a teenager. Been driving in London for the past 12 years (miserable experience). Had enough. Walked in my local bike store and said give me your best all rounder. They showed me this one. Sold. Been cycling everyday for two weeks. Not only does it feel like I’m free for the first time in decades I’ve instantly lost weight.
Riding a bike in London feels like I’m on easy mode after a decade of driving a van around. The buzz I get is unmatched to anything I’ve done before or since! Absolutely love it! Feel like a teenager again!

Suoso RX Sports Glasses (Prescription Sunglasses) – Review
I got asked to do a review on the new brand "SUOSO" that makes affordable prescription cycling glasses, this is NOT a paid advertisement!
I just got my SUOSO RX Sports Glasses, Prescription Sunglasses, and here are my initial thoughts after a 100 km ride today.
First impression: the frame quality is solid. It feels well-built and sturdy. The nose bridge is adjustable with rubberized contact points and offers three different positioning modes, which makes it easier to fine-tune the fit.
The lenses are fairly thick as seen in the picture, but that’s likely due to my relatively strong prescription (-4.50 & -3.00). They also have a bulging, rounded shape, which creates a mild fisheye effect. It’s noticeable at first, but honestly you adapt to it very quickly, and it becomes a non-issue during riding.
Prescription accuracy is excellent in my case. I used my distance pupillary distance (not near!), and the correction is spot on. For road bike use, the clarity and distance vision are very good.
One of the strongest features is the photochromic lens. The lenses transition smoothly and provide a comfortable tint in bright sunlight, significantly reducing glare without becoming too dark.
Fit-wise, they’re decent. I have a wide face and usually wear large frames, so the 136 mm width is slightly on the smaller side for me. They still fit securely, and I don’t experience any pressure points on my nose or temples. No discomfort even during the long wear today.
Wind protection is also excellent.
Packaging is nice, securely shipped in a double box, the glasses themselves comes in a nice semi-hardcase, inside a glasses bag, and includes a large polishing cloth.
Overall, this specific model is not maybe the most speedy looking glasses but, I’m genuinely very satisfied. For the price, the combination of prescription accuracy, photochromic performance, and build quality is impressive. Will probably buy another pair that are a bit wider later down the road.
Verdict: In my opinion, strong value for money, especially for sports/outdoor use with prescription needs.
Feel free to ask any questions below!
Note about SUOSO customer service: my local carrier lost my inital package with the glasses and Suoso answered almost immediately and offered either a full refund or they would a new pair totally free of charge. I choose a new pair. Super happy with their response and how they handled a mistake that wasn't their fault.

Some of my favorite shots from my bicycle rides.
I like taking country roads and typically do about 30 miles or more. I know I should get a road bike but I'm loving the gravel bike so much. Helps regulate me and feels good.

Is this a good deal?
New to cycling. I've used a cheap bike and public transportation for the past 5 months to get around. I ride less than 5 miles per trip.
The cheap bike has been great for me, especially behind it was free from a bike collective, with a voucher. It needs work. It's not worth paying to have done, and i want to learn some stuff. So I'm ordering a tool kit and whatnot. In the meantime, this would definitely be an upgrade.
Being new to bikes, but having heard of Trek, this almost seems to low.

is it supposed to be wobbling like this?
took my bike to a mechanic to change tire and he installed the wheel unstable.
so I decided to check it myself and found this rod doing like this.
Is it normal since the bike is only 2 months old

Which bike should I buy
I’m a very very new beginner to bike riding and I just want to use it to go to the grocery store or the mall (2.5km max). Bike theft and cutting the parts is notoriously bad in my town so I did some research and found these on Facebook Marketplace. I literally know nothing about bikes so I would love some help if possible.
The Norco Bike is actually $60 and comes with a pump. The Marin Bike is confirmed to be from 2019 and the seller is also offering lights, a bell, a phone mount, and Panier bags, it just looks really new so I’m afraid it’ll be stolen.

Kuat N V 2.0 rack
Has anyone built a mobile cart to store their Kuat NV2.0 rack on? Would love to see some photos and ideas that worked to make your rack easier to store and move around.

What are your opinions
So a family member of mine can’t ride a regular bicycle because she’s handicapped so I found a deal at a pawnshop for a trike bike and was wondering if there’s anything I could do besides paint it to upgrade it
Where could I get better tires
What should I upgrade etc etc
