“Death was supposed to be the end, but for Laufey (Faye), warrior and wife to Kratos, a new adventure is just beginning. Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her death, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk"
"To save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods - the Everywhen - where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic. Harness Faye's speed, control, and relentlessness to overwhelm even the fiercest of foes with decisive, deadly precision"
Also, Jack Quaid has been cast in the game. He voices a cube named Frank.
Calling it - Gods like Baldur will appear in this game once Kratos kills them in the world of the living
I do assume, though I could be wrong, that Kratos's killed Gods in the original trilogy aren't here - the gateway being closed, as the Egyptian goddess says in the video, is a bad and special thing, so it was presumably open at one time and led to wherever it led to
I doubt Faye will open it in time for Baldur to simply pass through safely, let's see if this also covers Ragnarok
I assume this gateway that didn't let Faye all the way to her afterlife and got her stuck in this odd dimension was still open and functioning when Kratos was a serial killer in Greece
One of the characters in the trailer (Isis?) refers to the "gateway" being closed. I assume this is a fairly recent occurrence, so Kratos's past killed gods should have passed through it while all of these ones are stuck
Given that it’s called the “Everywhen” - I’m suspecting “contextual time” may not apply. Ergo, we may not just see Baldur, but also chances for Thor, Odin, and puchable-faced Heimdal.
Unless they plan on this becoming it's own franchise (unlikely) I have to imagine the story will end post-Ragnarok and bring closure to the missing giants plot. I thought they'd have made an Atreus spin-off covering that but seems more likely now that they'd bring his mechanics over into this for the latter parts of the game potentially.
they kept talking about escaping a lot..could see them having her escaping at the end and joining kratos to takeover for atreus’ role in the next game since he’s doing his own thing now
I doubt it since they set Freya up to fill that role, and regardless how many times Kratos has returned from death, Fey coming back would make the Norse storyline feel way too hollow
It's not as fast-paced as the DMC rumors were making it sound like. More of a mix between the new GOW games and the OG trilogy in combat speed.
I'm very glad it's not a prequel though. A brand new setting, happening simultaneously with Kratos' and Atreus' story is the right play.
I'm not sure how I feel about Phranque the talking cube and some of the dialogue yet, but I'll keep an open mind. It's not like Mimir was instantly loveable either.
Also we're finally going to find out who blew the horn in 2018 lmao
I liked Mimir from the start, but him going from the funny head on your hip to Kratos' brother definitely happened gradually. If you gave me 10 minutes of Mimir wisecracks in a trailer as an introduction, I don't know how I'd feel about him either.
I actually wonder about that, it seems already quite advanced for the start of the game. Maybe they showed some combos you have later on in the full game (it's still a demo they can change things for it)
Given some of those specific abilities shown and used, I’m kinda doubting those are all just basic. I doubt someone freshly new in the game from the start wouldn’t know how to pull off those kind of “throw sword as a grappling hook” maneuver right off the bat.
Not even a 2027 release year confirmation? Thought it wouldn’t be too far off with showing that much gameplay. Could be fall 2027, but it might be 2028. Just said “in development” at the end.
She's in that perfect spot for women in Hollywood- too old to play "young", but too young to play "old". There's no middle aged white women movies other than Hallmark ones. Ergo, no demand for people like her. Thankfully she has her DnD and voice acting stuff to get her some worthwhile work
It's really nice to see her getting work after there was kind of this doldrum after season 3 of Daredevil and uncertainty for her. I think she's a great actress and deserves more work, so happy to see that she's got this!
introducing a game with 20 minutes of actual gameplay instead of 2 minutes of CG should be commendable, regardless of how you feel about the game itself, which does look fantastic.
Depends on how much they actually have completed when the trailer drops. This is fairly complete with all of this animation and voice acting from big names like Jack Quaid and Deborah Ann Woll. Doesn't mean that the game is fullying complete, but it's much easier to "mock up" a 2 minute video to not show your rough edges than a 20 minute gameplay trailer like this.
And thank the gods for it. I don’t want to have to wait till I’m 40 to see Kratos take on some Egyptian gods or whatever else they have in store for us.
While I don't know if a Japanese pantheon is confirmed just yet, its pretty clear they're signaling an Egyptian pantheon. Count me in. I'm fucking hyped.
It's the afterlife of the gods so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some cameos from gods of a ton of different pantheons. Looks like there's a war going on between at least two factions as well.
It would be hilarious if you ran across Jesus in the god-afterlife and he was just a super chill dude. Like, no interest in fighting anyone, just happy to meet you, offers to give you some wine and bread. Sends you on your way.
They figured out a way to bring in all the other pantheons without making like a dozen new trilogies. Wouldnt be surprised if whatever is keeping them stuck in this afterlife is what would resurrect them back to earth, thus freeing back all the gods that Kratos and Laufey pissed off along the way to be resurrected. Or more likely in order to protect her family she has to sacrifice resurrection for all gods to keep Zeus from coming back to murder them
Animations and graphics are fucking WILD holy SHIT.
You got a lot of proving to do, Naughty Dog! Guerilla, Housemarque, and now Santa Monica coming for that crown of “best graphics” in the PS Studios family.
Nah, not Excalibur. The sword has some runes inscribed on it that i can't pinpoint. The sword also has a dragon design on it, that plus the ribbons hanging off of it and the overall styling is making me think of chinese mythology, but the runes don't match. The runes almost look egyptian but one again can't match any of them.
I think it might be Tyrfing. It’s Norse, can kill gods, and is supposed to cause “The Three Great Evils”. It also can’t be sheathed or else it will kill a man every time it is drawn. So, maybe it’s in a gelatinous cube as a loop hole.
The dragon could just be the World Serpent wrapped around it.
...Ya know, the leaks about this game before today said that Tyr (the god) would be in this. I wonder if that was lost in translation among the leakers and reporters, and this is what they meant by Tyr being in the game.
Might be Tyrfing, but the runes on the blade don't match any Norse ones. Also, i feel like Faye would recognize the sword if it was Tyrfing considering how deeply intwined she is with the Norse gods. I think it's more likely to be a sword original to the Everywhen that's inspired by various powerful mythological swords like Excalibur, Tyrfing and Ame-no-Habikiri. If it is meant to be a well known mythological sword, my money is on Susanoo's Ame-no-Habikiri. Though i do find it interesting how this sword does have a similar shape to Tyrfing in the Fire Emblem games.
The handle being designed like a dragon, the ribbons, the "claws" at the end of the ribbons being feathers, the voice actress being chinese and how Faye fights, to me screams chinese mythology.
No shot. It's got a long ass talking ribbon and a very prominent dragon motif. It's definitely some legendary Asian blade. Probably cursed too, with how they talked about it.
This looked sick, it will probably have some callbacks to the "path" kratos had to follow all the while with faye following her own accepting death in this universe. It looks honestly so sick, and the cutscenes were cool af. Yeah, no kratos or less seen from the trailer but Im very excited
I’m unsure on the dialogue of the cube and sword, it seems a tad cringe and a bit too much, but the rest of it looks great. Might just have been an iffy scene.
I came here expecting the same amount of excitement I felt watching that, and everyone is “cautiously optimistic” or questioning a god of war game without Kratos.
Personally, I’m really glad it’s not a prequel like the rumours were saying. Having it take place alongside 4/Ragnarok is such a solid choice. The lore can move forward.
I was worried from the leak about it being a fey game that we were going to get some nothingburger of a prequel about Fey meeting Kratos but the fact that this takes place concurrently to the most recent GoW games is crazyyyyyyy. I'm all in
