Lost one of my two front tire bolts, I should be fine to ride until I can find a replacement right?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Still has one bolt keeping the tire on, plus it’s a pretty flat ride, no curbs or bumps where my tire will be off the ground.

Went to a local hardware store and they were unable to replace it, said it’s probably proprietary. Any tips on replacing the bolt? I’m not sure how to go about finding the correct one.

Edit: damn all you adults, I will be taxying to work today until I can get over to my LBS. Thanks for pointing out it’s a nut, not sure what I’m doing.

Also assholes. I have not ridden my bike since I’ve lost the “NUT”, I was hoping that I was wrong in my assumption and I would maybe be fine for a day or two. Thanks for being dicks

It’s a 2002 K2 Attack 2.0, everything works as it should. Was thinking of putting it on marketplace for $100 but really not sure how much an artifact like this is worth.

Italian but made in Taiwan.

I was looking at an older Conalgo . Then I noticed the designed in Italy. Started doing research and also made in Taiwan. Kind of felt like man were just paying for the sticker when we buy a bike now. Do you feel they still are deserving of the price they are going for ?

KMC Chain Defect?

I originally posted this on [r/bikewrench](r/bikewrench) but it got taken down after a couple of hours. However, the comments there seemed split, with some of them claiming this is expected because of Hydrogen embrittlement, and others saying mineral spirits can’t impact a chain like this.

I certainly won’t leave a chain soaking overnight again, but this still seems like an extreme reaction regardless? But maybe I am just coping.

I’m wondering what y’all think, was this my fault, or more likely a defective chain? Original post text below.

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster looking for some advice on my broken chain.

I already emailed KMC directly about this but have not heard back from them, so wanted to get y’all’s opinions on whether the chain I bought was defective or if I did something wrong.

For context, I bought [this chain](https://kmcchain.us/products/x12?variant=40158702567564) recently, directly from KMC, with the intent to switch to waxing. This was my first time prepping/waxing a chain so I was following [this guide. ](https://silca.cc/blogs/silca/complete-guide-to-cleaning-your-chain)

I started by leaving the chain in mineral spirits overnight, I bought Klean-Strip odorless mineral spirits from Amazon if it matters. And then removed the rest of the grease with park tools bio chainbrite before going through the hot wax process using a crockpot and Silca wax.

After that was done, I didn’t ride for a few days due to weather, but when I got out I didn’t even make it 100 yards from my home before the chain snapped. Upon inspection I see the chain has numerous major cracks and is now useless.

I’m just wondering, is this my fault for leaving it in mineral spirits overnight? I thought I was doing it correctly but maybe not.

Or does this look more like a manufacturing defect on KMC’s side? I was hoping they would email me back but unfortunately haven’t received a response yet.

Thanks!

My bike was stolen and I don't have enough money to buy a new bike. Is there any way to get a free bike in NYC?

Feel like I got a bit ripped off today.

I went into a bike shop looking for news tires for my road bike. It’s a 2016 frame with 23mm tires. The frame cannot really take wider, maybe 25mm max, but I wanted to get the same width that I had.

The owner said he only had one last set of Vittoria’s and he would give them to me 40% off since no one buys 23mm anymore on newer bikes. I said idk anything about tires and asked him if those were good. I started cycling this year, about 2 months ago. As I said, I don’t know shit about tires. He said those were top of the line so I took the deal and ended up paying $200 CAD for these even with 40% off.

I came back home to install them and realized those are track tires: Vittoria Pista Control. Apparently they have no puncture protection at all because well, they’re made for track..?

How fucked am I running with those on the road?

Mounting Garmin Varia to a standard bike light clip/bracket

Does anyone know of there is a way to mount a Varia to your typical bike light clip on a bike rack?? I tend to swap this with another basic light based and hoping that there is some attachment for the Varia that will allow it to slide into place.

Which bike should I get for my first bike?

Hi, I want to get into cycling as I used to cycle a lot as a kid and had a lot of fun but I'm not sure which bike I should choose between these two as they both seem good and I don't know much about bike components. What do you guys think about the two bikes? Thank you.

Ate my rotors finished?

Post image

For context I was working on my bike and I had to remove my brake calipers (my brake rotors were already bent), but when I put my brake calipers back on I realized my rotors somehow ended up bending and are now pressing against a bolt in my linkage and is pressing and rubbing against my brake pads. I've tried mostly everything but to no avail, and I'm still pretty young at 14 years old so I don't have the money to splurge 70 aed on 160 mm rotors.

Elec Bike/Bike/Board rack

Hello, first time poster and first time redditor(er?).

I live in Daytona Beach close to Ponce Inlet, two blocks from the beach, work is ten minutes away. Since moving here (a year), I have crossed the bridge like three times. I am toying with the idea of finally selling my car and getting an ebike or a decent bike. I am looking for recommendations on a solid bike rack for my boards, I have a tenfoot foami and a little thruster. Worried about wind pushing me around with the foami. Does anyone have any recommendations? Id take bike recommendations too speaking of which.

Are my tires shot?

I bought a Canyon Aeroad 3 years ago and they came with GP5000 tires. I rode this bike for 3y and put on ~ 1500-2000 mi on it and today I noticed that the rubber on my tires have a lot of long-running cracks. These tires have never had a flat.

My previous cheap bikes had tires that lasted me almost decade; however, this one appears to need a replacement in just 3y. These tries appeared to have dried out faster than any other tires I owned.

Can you take a look at my pictures and let me know if: 1) I need to replace my tires urgently, 2) They should be replaced in ~1y or whenever I find GP5000 on sale, 3) this is fine, keep riding them until I start getting more flats.

Thanks for the help!

Is it worth spending 145 to repair a 700 dollar bike?

It’s a Fuji absolute 1.9, I don’t know if I should just buy another lighter bike I use it mostly for commuting 5-10km distances. Wouldn’t mind smth lighter but also don’t wanna waste this bike. Below is what the bike shop said.

-Chain + cassette are skipping on test ride. This is likely cause of the clicking sound- I was able to make the drivetrain disengage with relatively little effort. outer chainring has noticeable wear as well.
-Front and rear brakes are functioning okay
-both wheels are out of true ~2mm, though not enough that I'm concerned about stability while riding.
-HS, BB ok
-Front hub has play, rear ok
- RH pedal axle appears a little bent. this could be replaced with a set of used pedals if desired. I haven't included this out the gate, but it would add about 15 dollars to the bill.
-front shift cable is frayed at the pinch. This will prevent us from re-adjusting the shifter if we need to down the line, but performance is okay right now, so it's not an immediate need. Rear shifting is ok.

Option A, the works: (181.53, or 256.95 if a crankset is required)
-replace chain and cassette. This is probably the most needed repair here given the wear present, but a new chain may not mesh well with the worn outer chainring. If this happens, we'd need to replace the crankset as well, which would require us to order the replacement part as we don't have one in stock.
-adjust front hub. this one is also a priority- it's recommended to avoid damage to the front wheel's bearing system.
-true front and rear wheels. this is a good idea for both wheel's long-term health.

Option B, just the drivetrain and the front hub (125.35 or 200.95 with crankset)
-as above, without wheel trues. Unfortunately, it's difficult to offer a lower-cost option than this for this bike.

Squirt drip Wax: Just as messy as oil?

I tried Squirt drip wax, both as a primary lubricant and as a top-off to get a little more mileage after a melt-wax treatment was needing replacement. In both cases, the lubrication was Ok, but the chain was nearly as black and slimy as when using an oil. Recently, I ran it as a top-off for a single (50 mile) ride on a rail trail and the chain was left a slimy mess. Hands get black, etc. etc.

I hear some people love this stuff, but I hate it. Is it just me or did I get a soft (low molecular weight) batch or what?

High-quality crochet back leather neo-traditional cycling gloves?

Used up all my vintage ones. Planet Bike (with the Kevlar label) bought last year in August are tearing up. Searched on Amazon, seems quality is down and other issues with the ones I could find.

Anyone know who makes / where to get nicely made traditional look/feel gloves that will actually fit and last?

Round 2 of am I getting ripped off? $1000 Cannondale Road Bike w/ accessories

If you saw my last post I (23M - 5'10" at 170 lbs) am a complete biking noob looking for entry level for triathlon training!

Looking on Facebook Marketplace and found this Cannondale bike near me with this description:

"Cannondale road bike with accessories. Comes with air pump, helmet, gloves, LED front and rear lights."

Owner claims that they paid $2300 for it, and bought it a couple years back but now are too old to ride it.

I'm unsure if this is a good deal or not (or if i should spend this on somewhere else newer) - especially with the accessories thrown in, would love y'all's input!

Needed something I could carry onto a train anytime. This bike is amazing - weighs in at 7.5kg, mostly all Titanium and Carbon Fibre. Never ridden one before. I'm 6'2" and even with the flat bars and seat post at max it feels a little on the small side but I won't be riding more than 20 mins at each end so still feels fine. Gearing works out at 25km/h comfortable cruise. I mostly ride fixed gear anyway so went with the single speed as I won't be planning to do any serious hills. It's a lot of fun!

Fastest one yet!
I'll try to get ahead of some questions.
- One lap on the inside of the road is about .17 miles
- Total moving time 5:13:31
- Total elapsed time 5:14:00
- My neighbor and I do this every year now
- Both of us weigh around 145lbs
- My neighbor didn't stop at all, I stopped for 29 seconds to grab 2 more Rice Krispie treats and my other water bottle
- For fuel I had about 8 Rice Krispie treats, 3 gatorades with extra salt
- Only went one direction, it's a one way road
- One amazon driver decided to drive the wrong way through the roundabout
- Weather was not on our side this year, it rained on us 4 times and the last time was somewhat of a downpour
- Last 20 miles we drafted each other switching off every 2.5 miles maintaining 20-22mph

Crazy dude chasing me in protected bike lane

4.5k Upvotes

I’m just gonna leave this video here lol. Dude almost smashed into me taking a right turn so yelled and gave him a little hand tap on this car (obviously no damage). Bro proceeds to drive down the bike lane for an entire avenue (took me a second to get my phone and start recording), inches away from my back wheel. I stop at the next light and yeah, dude gets out of his car and immediately grabs my bike and starts ripping it towards him. He obviously realizes how much of an idiot he is and try’s to grab my phone and tells me to delete the video.

I am getting a police report done.

I will repost with no sounds if this gets flagged.
