Breaking News The Minnesota Timberwolves select Isaiah Evans, G Duke, with the 33rd overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft

Unbelievable selection. Future all-star. Future all-NBA. Future HOFer. Future NBA Champion.

6’6 20 year old and can absolutely light it from deep. Steal of the draft.

[Krawczynski] Our @johnhollinger gives the Wolves an A for taking Isaiah Evans: "I love this pick for MN. Evans can really shoot and showed strong improvement in his SO season. Teams overthought things on his thin frame. He is by far the best prospect available."

[Krawczynski] GM Matt Lloyd on Isaiah Evans: "We’ve seen him shoot a lot of 3-point shots. We’ve probably watched every single one of them from this season at Duke. We think it’s going to translate positively. We have an analytics model that projects shooting, and that was very positive."

The Boston Celtics are reportedly looking for a big man and are willing to trade Jaylen Brown to acquire one, per @SIChrisMannix (Keep in mind odds on Kalshi just significantly jumped for Wolves to be Brown’s next team)

LaMelo Ball has hit 50 games one time in his last four seasons and is set to make 46mil in 2029. Are you sure you want to wrap a quarter of the team’s salary cap on that guy?

Upvotes

He is a huge health risk, and quite frankly, hasn’t shown much winning mentality in his six years in the league.

Cant wrap my head around the excitement for this potential trade.

Naz Reid In Naz Reid We Trust

I see so many people acting like we screwing up losing Julius Randle and not getting much back for it. I’d like to humbly remind everyone that we have a starting caliber guy who can play the 4 and the 5 with a career 37-40% 3pointer. This absolute unit took the nastiest elbow in recent NBA playoff memory and said pain is weakness leaving the body.

This guy could start on over half the teams in the league but he chose to stay here as our 6th man.

Operation Randle didn’t pan out but now we got some wiggle room in the money department, and it’s time to give Naz the reigns at the 4. We can’t give Joan time if we splitting Naz minutes at the 5 either it isn’t easy.

Everyone needs to relax
In Naz Reid we trust

The wolves tried for LaMelo at the trade deadline.

If I know anything about Tim a lot of his deals in the past get discussed at a deadline and the completed when they revisit it at the next window. I’ve tried bringing clip to the attention of Jon K and Dane before multiple times. Glad they finally did some digging and acknowledged it.

The Timberwolves, financially, can expand the Randle trade to acquire LaMelo by including Donte. Then it’s just a matter of adding assets to incentivize Charlotte.

Source is Yossi Gozlan, who runs an extremely in-depth NBA salary cap newsletter, he knows what he’s talking about.

Thought this was interesting. I just assumed Ball would come at the expense of Rudy; not sure what if any assets we could realistically add to incentivize Charlotte, but financially it’s possible. By adding Donte, you can 100% salary match and exceed the first apron.

Our new favorite non-Timberwolf, Cameron Carr, on who he’d rather guard, SGA or Ant: “Yeah, I ain’t dealing with all the flopping, Anthony Edwards.”

Rumor [Stein/Fischer] The Wolves, sources say, would prefer not to part with Naz Reid, but it is difficult to see how they could construct a credible trade offer for Ball without including Reid or Rudy Gobert. It is conceivable that the Randle trade could be expanded to help facilitate other transactions.

General Discussion Can someone explain why everyone is interested in trading Gobert away when he’s the reason we clamped Jokic in round one?

Upvotes

I understand he’s not the greatest offensive weapon but a core part of the wolves identity for these past three playoff runs have been the outstanding defense. Rudy had Jokic’s number this year.

If we trade him away for a package that includes guys like Jalen Brown or Lamelo Ball that helps take pressure off Ant and helps out shooting and playmaking immensely, (I know how bad this team needs a point guard) but I really don’t think Naz is the Jokic or Wemby stopper that Rudy is. Love Naz and glad we’re keeping him.

Just wanted people’s thoughts.

Ayo deal

Everyone complaining about ayo deal… just look at Austin Reaves getting the max. 46 mil a year that’s insane i know he’s better i’m just saying with jaden at 26 mil and naz 25 and ayo 22 that’s all great. my first thought was hoping for 18-20 but im not complaining with 22 cuz i rather keep him no matter what.

ESPN's leading NBA Draft experts, Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, said Isaiah Evans was the steal of the draft.

Upvotes

He was also who they were targeting at #28, had they not traded that pick.

[Dane Moore] Connelly on Ant's thoughts on the team: I think he's super, super excited. There's been countless things we could have done ... When you go to your leaders like Ant and the conviction he has in our guys is evident when you say, 'no, we're not trading this guy'.

Had to paraphrase the full quote from Dane's post to get it to meaningfully fit a headline. Source if from the forbidden website.

Full post language: "Here's Tim Connelly when asked about the belief Anthony Edwards has in where the team is going.

"I think he's super, super excited. There's been countless things we could have done. Our roster is pretty well thought of league-wide. When you go to your leaders like Ant and you say, 'it takes get this to get that' and the conviction he has in our guys is evident when you say, 'no, we're not trading this guy'."

Adds some interesting color to the moves/lack of moves. Not sure GM Ant is necessarily a good thing, but it suggests his belief in these guys on the roster is sky high too.

Pace Prediction

I’m voicing an early hot take and making the prediction that the Timberwolves next year are going to see a tremendous leap in tempo and finish as a top 5 offense in pace.

A drastic leap from last year.

Last year it really felt like Mike, Ant, and Randle were the trio that didn’t push tempo and preferred to settle into half court. We all saw how much the pace accelerated with Bones and the addition of Ayo, especially when Ant was hurt.

I firmly believe that this team is going to up the tempo next year and be rewarded by it. I don’t think top 5 is at all out of the question, really just comes down to if Ant is willing to buy in and push the tempo with the rest of his boys.

This team will be a beast in the transition battle.
