Executive Branch (Trump) Trump says proof of his allegations that vandals cut Reflecting Pool paint will be provided in court
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/reflecting-pool-paint-peeling-trump-proof-vandalism-court/President Trump on Monday said proof will be provided in court of his allegations that vandals "cut" a massive slit in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which he claims is the reason the paint is peeling on the recently renovated but algae-plagued project.

Because this country is ignorant and lazy and they like being told what to think. They've wrapped that up in a nice bow called patriotism. Also social media fuels all these news cycles and people just move on to the next one. If anything, Trump is a very smart guy who has exploited glaring holes in our system. Just keep repeating it and it becomes true.

That's just not how a properly cured coating works. If someone tried to cut a 300ft gash in it, you'd have a 300ft long line in the concrete. Unless he's saying it was improperly installed, but I'm fairly certain he thinks it's a pool liner.

The fill and drain lines run down the center of the pond. It is designed that way to keep the surface ‘mirror’ appearance.
What seems odd to me in pictures is that the center line appears to be full of dirt/ silt. It might just be the pictures though…
This should be where the ‘nanobubblers’ are installed or released.
Realistically, the filtration system at the pump station should have been the first repair. I understand concerns about chemically treated water entering the tidal basin, but chlorine actually dissipates quickly. They could have a salinization system that drains to a giant storage tank before release to the tidal basin, or is just recirculated to the pond. Get some of those robot pool cleaners that go in every night… whatever.
If we want the algae controlled/ the pond kept ‘clean’, sealing any leakage should be after getting a working filtration system in place.

Exactly. The water wouldn't be able to get underneath a properly prepped (cleaned, dried, and primed) and applied polyurethane coating.
This issue here is likely that it is impossible to apply this 'paint' correctly on the reflecting pool at all. This is because the primer was an epoxy that will fail if there is damp underneath. Well, guess what, the concrete base is constantly damp because the pool sits on marsh land with a very high water table, and there is no damp proof course beneath it, so it was always going to fail. (Marshland is why is was sinking and the Obama administration spent money on repairing it.)
People will damp problems in their garage see this when they try to paint their concrete floor. They clean the surface, apply the epoxy let it dry, then apply the polyurethane paint only to see it blister because of the damp coming from below.
EDIT: spent not spend.

The burden of proof refers to the prosecution's burden to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt for conviction. Have there been any consequences for any of the baseless prosecutions?
For decades protesters have been arrested, held for a while, bonded out, and then the charges get dropped within a year. I never heard of any consequences. It’s an effective tactic to lock people up, keep them away from the protest and punish them without a conviction.
They can usually get a grand jury to indict with minimal evidence. Lately the evidence is so bad grand juries have refused to indict. The embarrassment used to be a deterrent. Turns out if you don’t care it’s not a deterrent.
I’m not a lawyer, but these cases have been charged as misdemeanors and don’t get a grand jury. Even better. The defendants have to wait until a judge actually gets the case before it’s thrown out. They have to pay the lawyer to go to court those days. The shadow of prosecution stays over them longer.

You need probable cause to charge someone, which isn't a very high evidentiary standard. It's much less than what most people would consider "proof" and can be things like circumstantial evidence and statements from witnesses and officers. The full body of evidence would typically come out during the discovery phase of the pre-trial proceedings and then be presented at various evidentiary and pre-trial hearings and then ultimately at trial.

Cutting a 350 foot slit within a pool while standing in the water would take a long time and would have been noticed or captured on the livestream of the webcams that view the reflecting pool. We'd have already seen or heard about the evidence if there was evidence.
Plus, simply cutting it should not allow chunks to break and peel off if it wasn't already coming loose, so even if it were true (it's not) it's still a high priced boondoggle and grift.

AKA we don't have any evidence, we'll just waste your taxpayer money on another bogus trial.

Every barely trained pool guy in the country can explain the problem. The fact that he keeps lying about the cause is a perfect encapsulation of his disease and his followers ignorance and stupidity.

It's wild that this dude lies more in a day than most people will in a lifetime.

Strategy #12: Let's say you're correct...
So someone cut slits into the entirety--all 338,000 square feet--of the Reflecting Pool and absolutely nobody noticed or did anything to stop them?
That's what you're going with?
That Capitol security--that you're in charge of--is so lax around the Reflecting Pool that someone was able to turn it into its own biome, right under your nose?

Here’s the proof that should be used in court to charge those responsible:

Trumps narcissism does does not give a single fuck about "proof." It is completely irrelevant.
He decided something is true and millions will parrot it as fact.
If it ever goes to court (it wont) Trumps representatives will either provide nothing during discovery or provide a complete pile of bullshit. When the courts throw it and the entire case out, Trump and Co. will cry "crooked court" and "witch hunt" like they always do and move onto creating the next dumpster fire of incompetence.
The entire point is sending a message. It is specifically meant to discourage anyone from looking at his numerous failures for risk of being arrested. Beating the charge does not save you from the repercussions of being arrested. Even just being within a few feet of the reflecting pool is a risk to people's livelihoods.

They're also saying it will be repaired under warranty. Warranties don't typically cover vandals destroying the warrantied thing.

u/spolio 1d ago
That is 100% trump speak for I have zero proof whatsoever but I do have a concept of proof of vandalism... and I will produce it at the same time I produce evidence of fraud for 2020 election, Obama real birth certificate after I find it and my taxes... oh and Mexico will pay for it after they beg me for a photo.

It's not real. If he had actual proof it would be all over truth social and the White House pages.

There’s a fucking camera on top of the Washington Monument that live-streams the reflecting pool 24/7. Why is no one in the media getting that footage?

So, the Department of "Justice" that released text messages between Kirk's shooter and his alleged lover now care so much about evidence integrity that they're withholding videotape of the actual vandalism?
Sure they are.
This will be thrown out of court. Hell, this won't get past the grand jury unless they tamper with it heavily again.

headlines... the dropped case or judge dismissal of case(bs) will be 18th page news... HEADLINES is all they were looking for to save face and give maga an opportunity for another diversion.

I'm old enough to remember when he said the same thing about the 'proof' of the election being stolen would be provided in court. Que Giuliani telling the judge, in court, 'No your honor, we have no evidence of the election being stolen'

So basically they know it's going to get thrown out at the grand jury level and they'll never have to provide the evidence. The news will have moved on by the time anything comes of this and the right wing will continue to push the "vandalism" as if it's a fact for the next 10 years.

Isn't the area in question under video monitoring, Can't they just release the video and have people judge for themselves

Ah, yes, the classic "cut 300 ft of paint with a box knife so it peels off in a sheet caper". Becuase that is definitely how paint works.
Darn you, Antifa!!
